But Black Women Can’t

Welcome to another post from the reader suggested series. Now yall knew this one was comin’ for quite awhile. Today we will bash that whole idea that Black women can’t…….

WEAR BLUE EYESHADOW
My sistas, my sistas. Who told you this? Yes, I know…when done unproperly, a blue-eye look can look like a black eye. But that’s because you are doing something wrong!

Here are some of my favorite blue-eye looks.

Not ready to wear a super vibrant blue eye? Try a subtler look. Here, I simply swiped darker blue on the lid and smoked it out with a a bit of black eyeshadow and liner on the lower lash line.

This is more blue-turquoise but I found that keeping the blue RIGHT ON THE LID keeps me lookin’ less “scary”.

Here’s a blue look that I did BEFORE I learned how to work with my eye shape. I took the blue waaaay above the crease. Which wasn’t a good idea because it gives me that clown-ish look. Or so I think. My hair is bangin’ though….ha!

Remember my Cool Heat inspired look? I think this may be my best blue eye look yet.

Now if I haven’t convinced you yet that we CAN wear blue eyeshadow and you are still feelin’ a bit apprehensive, you may want to try something like this.

A blue liner on the eyes. Gives you a pop of color but isn’t “too much”.

And to my light-skinned sisters who feel like that can’t rock the blue….check out my girl Tasha.

Absolutely stunning!! Thanks Dany for showin’ us your skills and an even bigger thank you to Tasha for letting me showcase your beautiful face.

Anyone have any suggestions for those fearful of wearing blue eyeshadow? Or perhaps you’d like to tell me why you feel you can’t wear blues?

  • Koffee

I guess I was wrong for that part… the blue…. well i guess its because i saw them wearing it all “wrong”.. more so it didn’t show up like the photos you have posted…

I love the cool summer heat look… you rock it.

As for Tasha.. ain’t nobody can tell her nothing… she pulled it Off…

  • PBW

That blue eyeliner is FABULOUS on you. This black woman has to have it!

  • Kieya

You know a friend of mine was just telling me to try out blue eye shadow. I was like, “eh…maybe not” but now maybe I will. I love the cool heat look. Question, do u do anything special/use anything special to get the color so…vibrant? I’ve tried & I feel like the color isn’t clear enough

  • Leela

I acutally use blue mascara ALOT…but I am thinking of even brightening it up some by adding some blue eyeliner…thanks for the different variations…

Sara…thanks darlin’! It’s a fun look for those who are tip toe-ing in blues.

    KD…isn’t she killin’ it? Hotttt!

PBW…preach, Auntie. I love the blue liner!

Kieya…I find that I get greater payoff color by using a nice base. MAC’s paintpots or L’Oreal Hip’s gel liners do a wonderful job at not only preventing creasing but giving you a bolder and more vibrant look. Try them!

Leela….ohhhh, blue mascara. Now you’re givin’ me some ideas!

I am experimenting with blues. I just recently started not applying eyeshadow on my whole eye. I think that is definitely key when wearing shades like blue. I know I will look clownish fo sho!

It doesn’t matter whatever color you’ve want to apply. What matters most is how you handle such beauty you have. Remember that “beauty is in the eye of the beholder.” Only your guts matter that everyone can’t lay over. Keep up the good work!
