Mascara Monday: Imju Fiberwig

| July 7, 2008 | 28 Comments

Happy happy Monday! Please excuse my ghost-ness. I went to Tampa to visit some fam and I saw my Grandmother. I haven’t seen her since I graduated from high school!! It was a big deal to see her beautiful face and snuggle up next to her. Loves it. Next week I’m headed to Miami to visit the other Grandmother. I’m so blessed. Hope that you all had a wonderful looooong weekend. Let’s get goin’ on the mascara review.

Imju Fiberwig

Price: 3 out of 5 (I got it for $22 at Sephora)
Packaging (Brush Wand): 4 out of 5
Overall:
5 out of 5

What it claims:Fiberwig Mascara represents Imju’s superior quality and hi-tech approach to cosmetics; a mascara that replicates the illusion of false eyelashes..”

The truth: I wouldn’t say that it gives you an illusion of false eyelashes, but I have never seen my lashes look so full and long.

What I loved about it: Imju is a Japanese cosmetics company that is known for their innovative cosmetics. I first heard about Fiberwig from one of my favorite beauty bloggers: Grayburn. She fell in love with this mascara and now I see why. I think my video may do a better job at explaining just HOW it works but when I tell you it is the most amazing thing I have ever tried….I ain’t lyin’. Fiberwig contains, I guess “fibers” that attach to your lashes and with each stroke you can length your lashes.. Contact wearers and sensitive eyes’ folx, don’t fret. These fibers don’t come anywhere near the eyes. It takes some practice getting used to Fiberwig. I prefer long outer lashes so I concentrated there. I also looooved taking the mascara off. With just a dab of water on your fingers and massaging your lashes, it comes off. It’s so easy that it is actually fun. Even if you are satisfied with your current mascara or in love with your natural lashes, this is a product that you just HAVE to try.

  6. txsDva says:

I bought this when it first came out alone i really dont like it….but like any good junkie knows you should use 2 mascaras(each with their own properties..ie one volumizing and one lenghtening) to get truly spectacular effects…..anyway i much more perfer Shu Umera’s version…its not as liquidy nor does it irratate the lash line if you happen to get to close…but yeah its good underneath another mascara

  7. B says:

Sey–> After watching the vid again, I too see the difference that the mascara made. I’m glad it came out okay! Adding Fiberlash to the list.

    Nywele–> Done! :)

    BBG–> Mascara obsessed sistas unite!

Smirking Cat–> You just HAVE to try it.

PJD–> Giiiirl, when you get the other product name, let me know.

Txdva–> Nooo, you didn’t like it? You are sooo right. For a good lash look, I almost ALWAYS use 2 mascaras. Definitely going to check out Shu’s now. Thanks a ton for the rec.

  8. Anjela @ BlaqVixenBeauty says:

    Hey B,

I actually was on earlier but for some reason the video wouldn’t play for me…dumb laptop! Anywho, I decided to wait to comment until I watched the video. I am so glad I did! I saw this in one of the Sephora catalogs and it caught my eye because it came with a DVD (???) and because of the “false eyelashes” claim. I have about a couple of eyelash packages in one of my containers but I really suck at applying them! Anyway (lol!), I am glad that you reviewed this one. It was a really nice surprise…!!! :)

  9. The Home Spa Goddess says:

I am so scared of a fiber getting in my eye! This does sound intresting:)

  10. SuzieC says:

*adds to list of things to buy* The video convinced me…your lashes looked fabulous!

  11. yummy411 says:

gosh i haven’t seen the vid yet! and after finding love with my dior show i can’t commit my $20+ to anyone else! but if shu’s version is better.. whoa whoa whoa now! LOL!

  12. Taryn says:

You’ll find places like Adambeauty.com and Sasa.com (Sasa is easier to use because you don’t have to figure out exchange rates) sell Fiberwig for about $12. It’s not that expensive in Japan. So if you placed an order for a couple of tubes through Sasa, you’d save some money for sure.

They also have a wide variety of wonderful Asian cosmetics that are extremely tempting. ;) Opera MyLash is another great mascara that Sasa carries and uses the tubing technique too.

  13. Beauty 365 says:

man…every time i test this out in sephora, it’s all dried out…or maybe it’s just a drier formula…

hmm…glad u liked it tho. maybe i will get it with my next gift card ;)

  14. Grayburn says:

Aw you’re such a sweetie! You have really done this mascara justice you know! What a great review and the video explains better than I ever could in writing. Great stuff & thanks for mentioning me (me blushing)!

  15. Jessica says:

i really appreciate your review and yes, you’re sooo right about the lengthening effect! my only concern is, does the fiber flake off? i’ve read reviews about that possibility, and was wondering what your experience was. Thanks!

  16. B says:

Jessica–> I haven’t experienced any flaking but I’m thinking those that do should probably use a primer on the lashes before applying Fiberwig. It may help with conditioning the lashes so that doesn’t happen. :)

  17. Pia says:

Remember you can get Fiberwig for $12 at sasa.com!

  18. K says:

I hope you don't mind that I'll be linking to this post! There's a new volumizing version of this mascara out from Imju now, and I'm reviewing it! If you would like to try it out, I'll send you a bottle!

  19. Stephanie says:

    it's only abt US$10-12 in Japan…
It is the No.1 for youngster in these places.

CAN'T BELIEVE this is so PRICEY in US.

    P.S.
i don't know if they sell in US, but they can have two newer version. One is has curvy wand to cover all lashes and one sells "volume".

  20. Shrilaraune says:

I'm looking for a lengthening mascara that I'll use as a constant. Don't get me wrong, makeup hunting is a lot of fun, but I want the basic fall back set, one that I know will make my eyes look amazing everytime–would you say this is the best you've tried? How does it compare to the Lash Stiletto for example? Could you post pictures? Sorry for all the questions but you have me genuinely interested in this now!

  21. B says:

Shrilaraune—> This is a super old mascara post but the video shows A LOT of what this mascara can do. It is difficult to compare this with Lash Stiletto as Imju Fiberwig is a FIBER mascara and Stiletto is not. I do favor Imju for lengthening but lengthening only. Stiletto does a good job for overall length and volume.

  22. sarah M says:

how does this compare to ysl faux cils?

  23. Trina E says:

Hey Sweetie! I must say I TOTALLY agree with your review. This is my FAVE mascara. Loves it…Length for days. I love your blog and look forward to watching your reviews…keep doing what you do!
    *Smooches & Love*

  24. Trina E says:

*whisper* Am I allowed to say that I buy my Fiberwig on ebay for ~13 bucks? Just a tip for those who may want to save a little over retail :o)
