Mascara Monday: Wet N Wild’s MegaVolume Mascara

Happy Monday, people!!! I hope that this upcoming week brings you a ton of joy. Especially if you are one of those fortunate people to be in New York City for Fashion Week. I’m not there, but I am staying up on all of happenings through Twitter. Loves it!

Okay, soooo…this mascara is definitely one of a kind. Check it:

Wet ‘N Wild’s MegaVolume Thickening Mascara

Price: 5 out of 5 (it was a $1.99..seriously the cheapest mascara ever)

Packaging (Brush Wand): 3 out of 5

Overall: 0.5 out of 5

What it claims: “Turn it up! Incredible lash-thickening mascara formula dramatically enhances the volume of even the most soft-spoken lashes-and babies them with conditioners, too.”

The truth:

Well, uh….at least you aren’t paying TOO much for it.

What I loved about it:

I’m the type that tries to find the silver lining in everythiiiiing. But honey, I can’t even lie to you this time around. I didn’t love anything about this mascara.

Overall:

Oh geez, where to start? Well um….it has this smell. Problems 1-4. And while the wand is that of an average wand, I find that when trying to apply this mascara it was just one big glooby mess. After applying one coat, my lashes seemed to laugh at me. I didn’t notice any type of length or volume. After two coats, I noticed a little somethin’-somethin’ but it was very subtle. In attempts to give this mascara a fair chance I wore it all day only to find it flaking with every glance in the mirror. And by the end of the day I didn’t even need to use make-up remover for it had decided to magically remove itself by---disappearance. Yes, I’m not kidding you. The mascara just disappeared from my lids. Now if that ain’t innovation, I don’t know what is!

Would I recommend it:

If I had to choose between this or wearing my natural lashes, I would definitely choose the latter. Shoot, I’d rather pour sand in my eyes than wear this stuff here. Okay, that was beyond dramatic, uh? LOL!

Has anyone else tried some of Wet N Wild's mascaras? Did I do something wrong or do you really get what you pay for? Your thoughts....

....please excuse the lack of videos/pictures for this Mascara Monday. Ya girl was a little swamped this past weekend. But don't fret---this week Clumps of Mascara is going to be featuring a ton of reviews! Stay tuuuuned.

...and stay beautiful!

that sounds like a “BLAH” product, thanks for this

  • ShanSoPink

hehe thanks that’s one less for the shopping list!

  • Gangstarr Girl

I just trashed some Wet n Wild mascara that I had. It was an impulse buy because it was so cheap, but it really didn’t work for me. It’s bad enough my lashes are already very tight and curled up but this mascara didn’t do much to help and I agree, it was very messy and smelled funny. Lesson learned. On the flipside, I picked up so CG Lash Blast which makes up times a thousand for that wack ass Wet N Wild.

Oh well..like the saying goes, pay peanuts, get monkeys.

  • Fashion’s Darling

Hahaha thanks for this. I remember seeing this and the $1.99 price tag was very alluring but I didn’t get it because at $1.99 I didn’t trust it. You proved me right.

  • GetMarried4Less/LadyT

lol….i think i tried Wet n Wild when i was first starting out with makeup…..’round about 15 or so…it was in my budget and honestly, i didnt know mascara wasn’t SUPPOSED to flake off like that, lol…..

  • Afrodite

    I vote no.

I loathe Wet and Wild products. Ever since the lip gloss did a number on my lips, it’s been a wrap.

  • Brown Girl Gumbo

I’ve never used any Wet n’ Wild mascaras, but now I probably won’t!

I did have a bronzer from them once that was my FAVORITE, but they discontinued it. One day it broke into pieces so I never got to use it again.

This review is SOOOOOOO unbelievably timely. The funny thing about this blog is I was JUST thinking this morning on the way to work that I was gonna stop by the store on the way home and pick up a Wet n Wild Mascara. I too, loathe Wet n Wild products. They truly are poor quality. But I was thinking this AM, “maybe I’m sleeping on the cheap mascara. Maybe it will magically be the best mascara ever.” SO GLAD you posted this today. You saved me $2. That’s a cup of coffee!!!

  • Pumps And Gloss

Wow, you would rather put sand in your eye than wear that stuff… too funny. Have you tried LA Colors mascara?

Twitter is the best! Thanks to Kia for getting me on that…How I lived w/o The Twitter, I have no clue!

  • yummy411

hey b–i’ve never tried the wet ‘n wild mascaras. never even thought about it actually–not sure why. although i have used some of their blushes and lip colors and the ones that i’ve tried i’ve liked. sorry about your wasted money, but at least it wasn’t a HUGE money loss…love ya!

  • PBW

I've tried some of W&W lippies, but never any eye stuff. When I first saw this review I was hoping for a $1.99 mascara miracle. Sigh…

  • SuzieC

I defiantly will be staying away!

  • JenJen

I recommend trying this one again. I had never used it before, but I assume based on your review and the fact that they've done the same with their eyeshadows, that they've redone/reformulated this as well. I bought 3 of their mascaras because they were on an endcap and jumped out at me. To my surprise, I *LOVE* this $1.89 mascara! I had ordered YSL Faux Cils because I loved a sample that I'd gotten, and it showed up just after I purchased the WnW. Get ready for this…I RETURNED THE YSL BECAUSE I PREFER THE WNW! (OK, well, also partially because I felt guilty for spending over $28 on a mascara…)

JenJen—> Thanks for letting me know! I think I'll try it again. *gulp*

  • Lizzy

My mom bought me the Wet n' Wild Mega Wink Lash Curling Mascara as a stocking stuffer for Christmas. I assumed it would be really crappy, but I was really surprised! Mega Wink has a curved brush and the formula left my lashes really soft with a little curl (I didn't curl my lashes when I used it). There is a little bit of flaking, but I was honestly shocked about how good it was considering it's 2 bucks. I wore it all day on Christmas and it lasted the entire day!

Just wanted to post this because maybe you should give the Mega Wink a try. I've never tried the Mega Volume, but I don't doubt your words of wisdom about it. :) Maybe some of their mascaras are better than others?

  • B

Lizzy—> You know, I keep hearing from other folx that this mascara isn't THAT bad. Maybe it was reformulated. Either way I'll be reviewing it again soon!

  • Kim

I used Wet n Wild megalength mascara, and it was also pretty bad. It sounds like it is the same formula since it is SO flaky and smudgy, but the brush is pretty small and has really short bristles, so it is VERY clumpy.

I didn’t like this either… for a dollar more, give me my elf mineral infused mascara!!!
