Mascara Monday: Givenchy Phenomen ‘Eyes mascara

| November 3, 2008 | 14 Comments

Happy Monday, fam! I spent the weekend in Tallahassee visiting friends and family and having a good time for Florida A&M University’s Homecoming. My sister wanted me to incorporate her in this week’s Mascara Review soooo…..I did. Check out what we thought about….

Givenchy Phenomen ‘Eyes
mascara

Price: 1 out of 5 ($27..can’t even lie. This is TOO much money for a mascara)
Packaging (Brush Wand): 5 out of 5
Overall: 4 out of 5

What it claims: Givenchy Phenomen’Eyes Mascara perfectly curls and separates lashes. It has a high-tech, patented round sphere at the tip of the precision wand that reaches every lash and adapts to all eye shapes. It’s a Sephora exclusive.” (source)

The truth: Wow, wow, and wow again! This claim is without a doubt…TRUE! Imagine that, kids!

What I loved about it: Well, the wand-ball thingie is amazing! Seriously. I didn’t want this mascara for awhile because I was hesitant about spending THIS much money on one. But, I got it as a gift and was doing cartwheels at first glance of the dagger-like wand.

What I didn’t like: The formula isn’t the BEST. Granted I was too obsessed with the wand to realize this for awhile but once after a week of testing this mascara, I just wasn’t impressed with its formula performance.

Overall: I gave this mascara 4 out of 5 stars for the wand alone! I can’t express to you how amazing it is! It would have given it a 5 if the mascara itself was hot stuff. But unfortunately, it wasn’t. It’s pretty smeary and has this gel-like consistency once applied on the lashes. It does an GREAT job at giving you volume but that volume seems to disappear throughout the day. The wand is successful at separating. I wish Max Factor Volume Couture mascara had a wand like this!! While I can appreciate its black intensity, I can’t get over how nasty looking it becomes if you were to gently rub your eyes. Yall know I love to play around and be dramatic but I promise you I did NOT purposely jack up Sister Clump’s eye on on this one. Check out Courtney’s lashes after she rubbed her eyes a good 10 minutes after I applied the mascara.

Yikes! Try again Givenchy….a huge thumbs up for the idea, but head back to the lab with the formula.

Would I recommend it: For fun, yes…but you can’t take it seriously.

I pretty much have the same thoughts you did in the beginning; the wand intrigued me but I wasn’t anxious to try it out…. Especially because of the price!

  6. Jamila says:

I saw a video and they also mentioned that the formulation was not good but they loved the wand. She said after she don’t with it she will keep the wand to use with other mascara formulations. To much money for me and again I have to have waterproof mascara.(lol)

By the way Premium outlet off of SR 535 has a fragrance store that sells lots of NYX products they also have a CCO. You know I hit it up pretty good. Got a shadowy lady quad for $24.99

LOve the sister love…remind me of my sis and I. Ok now on to MASCARA. Yes I love this wand and it is all about the WAND. Hence my video on reusing the WAND..lol the formula is ok and I am annoyed that I have the brown one not the black sigh. Love what it did for your sister’s lashes.
    Great fun review.
