Beauty Bee-haviors: Online Purchases

Welcome to another post from the Beauty Bee-haviors series. In this series we have open discussions about any and everything in the beauty world.

So….do you buy beauty products online?
Why or why not?

Lemme tell you….I used to HATE buying items online. And it wasn’t because I was afraid of using my credit card information. Or because I feared that it wouldn’t get to me.

I didn’t like buying online because I hated waiting!

Living in a city like Orlando, Florida has spoiled me. I am surrounded by Sephora and Ulta’s, a MAC Pro store and discount outlets, all within 20 minutes from me. I can pretty much get anything I want when I want it. But to wait for it…..drives me nuts.

That doesn’t stop me from ordering though. 90% of my nail polish purchases are done online.

What about you? Nay or yay to online purchases.

This post may contain a sample product sent for post consideration. For more information about Clumps of Mascara's Disclosure Policy, click here.

  • Askmewhats

Yay on online purchase because there’s a lot I can’t buy locally..but NAY on waiting! I have to wait for months on some of my items :( Well MOST of my items :(

  • Product Junkie Diva

YAY YAY YAY I am an online shopper for sure. I am not a fan of waiting for my goodies either.
    PJD

  • Tigress or Tame?

I feel you…I live in the O, too. Its hard to wait for products online to ship when you can go down the street and buy anything! I usually only purchase things online that I can’t get in the store (like coastal scents) but that is rare!

  • Tammy M

*sigh* I used to live in Orlando…and felt the same way. With so many stores nearby, it was easy to just run to the store and get instant makeup gratification.
However, now I live in a small town and it is at least a 45 minute to an hour or more drive… also, some things are just not available around where I live, so online shopping is a must!

  • juvenescent

It depends. If I already know what the product looks like in person, I will certainly buy online. The main reason I don’t is because I don’t want to get something hideous because the swatches online were inaccurate.

  • Amina

    yay!
when i used to live in Boston, I never bought make up products online…after all i was surrounded by everything i needed..
now that i live in a small town, the nearest mac is an hour and a half drive and i can’t be driving 3 hours for make up..
so i buy a lot online
plus nowadays i don’t trust myself at a make up counter

  • The Asian Girl

YAY! I HAVE to, I live in the abyss that is otherwise known as Pensacola, FL; AKA Lower Alabama. I hate waiting too; now I'm waiting for my Zoya exchange polishes! I've had to travel to get certain products I want, such as Chanel Vendetta…I went to New Orleans for a Hornets game and dropped by Saks to buy it. The local mall wouldn't have it for another 2-3 weeks >:(

  • Moni

At first I didn’t like buying things online but I’m slowly becoming addicted. I like shopping online because the selection is (usually) so much better and I can comparison shop on the spot. Then when I receive it it’s almost like somebody sent me a present! The only thing I don’t like about shopping online is paying for shipping, so I try to avoid that as much as possible.

  • Angie

Yay! I live in the Netherlands, and not all of my favorite brands are sold here. Plus buying online can be lots cheaper. for instance a normal blush that you will buy at the mac store for $18 we pay 19 EUROS!! That’s almost DOUBLE!! LONG LIVE ONLINE SHOPPING!!

  • PBW

I need my “submit order” finger chopped off.

  • Bella

Well…. for a while there I had my Paypal account (from some doolah i make from online surveys) sitting there. Then i discovered E.L.F. cosmetics and began doing the online shopping thing.

would I do it for more serious purchases where I actually need to see and feel the product?? Not likely.

  • Vampy Varnish

I actually buy most of my beauty items online and 99% of polish because it’s SO much cheaper. Having said that, I almost wish I couldn’t order stuff online because I spend too much, it’s sooo easy… :-)

  • Kiarah C. W.

OOOOH I hate waiting but thanx to speedy delivery I usually don’t have to wait more than a week. Online is pretty convenient with my work and school schedule though because I can get all my things and nto ever have to wait in a line at the mall. So I am half and half because it’s something about the feeling of being in the mall. I love it. I love to shop so online is just for when I’m too busy.

  • Tashina

I’m totally jealous of people who live in places like New York and DC. I live in Chicago and there aren’t that many options for me (that I know of anyhow). I have to get all of my hair products online. Shea butter, oyin, Jamaican Black Castor Oil, etc. etc. etc.

I hate the wait, but I do enjoy shopping online. There’s such a wealth of products to try. They are usually of a higher quality, and at least I am able to get the items that actually work for my hair AND are healthier. The only problem is the drama that follows with returning and wait time.

LOL I am so with PBW right now. I need my submit order finger chopped off as well.

I don’t really need to order things like nail polish online because Sally’s carries such a great selection of colors and brands. As for makeup I used to order MAC online. It was very convenient because at that time I was shy of the sales associates. They always had a way of making me feel a little insecure, and I didn’t like how they tried to push additional products on me because I have some hyperpigmentation. Ordering online cuts out the middle man, and I likes that ^_^

  • The Pretty Brown Girl

I love buying stuff online because I like getting packages in the mail. Plus, I can’t get everything I like in mall. :)

  • The Lush List

I hate waiting, but I LOVE samples. Sephora and ULTA both give out free samples when you purchase online. I’m always trying to avoid shipping fees though, so I usually have to make my order more than $50…which isn’t too hard! :)

  • A

Yay – because a lot of great products are not available where I live. And I love getting a package, it feels like Christmas :D
But I hate it when they don’t ship to New Zealand.

  • Fashion’s Darling

i order online sometimes. only if the product i need isn’t available at a sephora. I live in NY so everything is a hop, skip, and a jump away lol.

though I must say…cherryculture.com gets me all the time. all. the. time.

  • rmcandlelight

Just like you said living in Sunny Orlando everything is near us. I only order online when there is a good deal. I just bought 12 misa nail polishes for $23.50 and that includes the shipping.

  • Glamouricious

Yay!! I love online shopping, but… have yet to make one for make up. I’m planning it though and choosing the ones I really can’t live without.
Specially since there is no Mac, Nars nor Urban Decay being sold in my area. Boo!:(

I don’t mind the wait. What I do mind is that you don’t get to test out the make up like you would at a mac counter.

Another plus with buying onlne is the savings and coupons you can get.

  • Meagan Elizabeth

Yay for online purchases! Although I live no more than 20 minutes away from 2 Sephora’s and a MAC store, I don’t have a car, and sometimes a bus ride is too much hassle for new lipgloss. I hate hate hate the waiting, though!

Luckily Smashbox Studios is close to me though, because I get my makeup orders literally the next day!
