Beauty Bee-haviors: I just don’t get it!

Welcome to another post from the Beauty Bee-haviors series. In this series we have open discussions about any and everything in the beauty world.

Now don’t act like you know everything, family.

There is SOMETHING you don’t get when it comes to make-up application. Whether it be how to bang out a crease, apply foundation or line the lips.

What don’t you understand when
it comes to make-up?

As for me…it should come to no surprise but I have such an issue with foundations! Color matching is such a challenge in itself. And then there is the fear of possibly breaking out. And don’t even get me started on application….you have to be sure to blend everything out evenly so that you don’t have the Tyra hairline thing going on. It’s just….too much and I don’t get it.

What about you? What has you screaming, “I just don’t get it!!!”

i would definitely have to agree with you.. FOUNDATION. ugh! i just don’t get it. so i backed off to try concealers and i don’t get that either! maybe i just suck at using it? i feel so helpless sometimes :\

  • BabyJanny

i agree… foundation matching is a horror. i think a lot of mua’s dont have it down either, which is why we see so many mismatched faces!! either that, or them ppl got NO clue on how to blend the foundation out, lol!

i was thinking about doing makeup freelance, but the foundation part still scares me way too much. i think i have to go to school for the foundation, cuz i still have no clue. concealer i have sort of an idea, but foundation just makes me wanna cryyyyyyy lolz

  • Askmewhats

Definitely foundation matching!!! And applying eyeliner on the waterline without smudging after several hours!

I have a lot of issues when it comes to makeup that I hope somebody answers soon:first there´s foundation and concealer I don´t know how you guys get it to look so natural and I feel that I look as if I had mask; second liquid liner, I can´t for the life of me get liquid eyeliner good and if I do get one eye right, the other one look all crooked and ugly and third is fake eyelashes, what do I do to put them right without loosing my naturals when I take them off.

  • NaturallyAlise

I don’t get eyeliner, I suck at every kind, liquid, powder, pencil… I always make myself look like I was in a fight that I surely didn’t win….

  • Miss Pretty

I just learned how 2 apply eyeshadow correctly by reading this site (Thanks B) I was seriously wearing one color all the way up 2 my eyebrow!

So now my issue is choosing the right shades that I can mix and match with others. Im a diva on a budget so it would be great to know exactly what colors to choose to get the most wear.

  • Fashion’s Darling

My biggest problem is defintely my eye area. Lol. My eyeliner is a bit thick although I’ve learned to make a nice thin line. But eyeshadow…whew! I’ve got ways to go. I use ONE color. I’m trying to learn the whole blending of colors and smokey eye and bright colors etc. Eyeshadow is not my thing at all. That’s why I have like ten max…counting each shadow in quads haha

  • Gel-Nails

    Interesting content.

Just wanted to share some information that may help busy professionals caught up with work and who have less time to maintain their nails. You can try out gel nails which are now becoming a hot favorite as they are natural looking even without nail tips and the best way for nail enhancement. Also, if you are allergic to those strong smelling chemicals which you can experience with acrylic nails, then you should use gel nails as these are odorless.

However, when you are planning on gel nail application, make sure you approach a nail salon or a nail artist who is well versed with gel nails and is properly trained and mastered in gel applications. This will save you from problems that can arise with improper gel nail applications.

Bold eyeshadow colours really throw me. How to finish it on the outer corners of the eye? How to blend? Mad confusing, so I usually just wear a flick of black liner or at a push blend a little gold, or new my fav MAC Vex.

Your blog has helped A LOT though.

    Thanx

  • Product Junkie Diva

I want to try my hand at gel eye liner.
I have yet to make that purchase but when I do, I have a feeling I will not apply it well…sigh

  • …ALLmEYEne…

Color correctors, concealers, bold lips, and liquid liner are my problem areas.

  • Alycia’s Hot Spot!

Definitely choosing the right foundation. Also, I have issues with my eyebrows. They are naturally thin. I have tried to fill them in using evrything from eyeshadow, brow powder, brow pencils, etc. I feel that end up looking like Faye Dunaway in Mommy Dearest. Me no likey, :( I still have not mastered this task. UGH!

  • Glamouricious

I *think I get foundation. Only problem is MAYBE it does make me ocassionally break out, then again THAT’s what I use the foundation for: to cover zits lol.
What I don’t get is the huge difference between concealer and foundation. My way of using foundation is NOT using it on my entire face. I use my fingers/sponge to apply on zits and light scars which bother me. Then I top it off with cream powder on my entire face, blush and light bronzer. Done!:D

I Really don’t get bold eyeshadow colors either. I watch so many tutorials yet can’t manage to do the smokey eye look to my liking. Boo!

I also don’t feel I can carry off a bold lip. I stick to lipglosses lol.

Let’s see for me it would be applying false eyelashes. There are some chicks that rock the falsies EVERY DAY when it takes me AT LEAST 30-40 minutes to get ONE on..secure and looking OKAY. I just don’t have that kind of time so i’ve given up on them. But there are those that can apply falsies BEAUTIFULLY in a few minutes tops. WOW.

  • Bella

Foundation is my nemesis. I have battled for soooooooooo long to find the perfect match for my latina skin!!!

  • JENSMAKEUPBAG

i think foundation would be the hardest part of makeup application for matching purposes. some makeup artists at MAC sometimes get the wrong colors. but i think sometimes the problem is that parts of your face are different colors. some areas are lighter than others and darker than others. so in reality, we can never perfectly match our foundation! its crazy…but i think the best thing is to just put foundation where its needed and not all over the face. that way you’re only perfecting what needs to be perfected and not the areas that don’t need anything.
–my other hardest part of makeup is liquid liner! its difficult to apply!

  • Smirking Cat

Foundation…cream eyeshadow…cream or gel eyeliner. I’m amazed I can apply liquid eyeliner, but even that took LOTS of practice!

  • K&T Makeup Artistry

Foundation was the scariest for me to approach for fear of not matching right but I have a great eye matching colors…so I would have to say that applying lashes is still the hardest thing that I do and that is because I haven’t done many of them yet, to date.

I’m still stuck on trying to blend! Eyelashes???…don’t even talk about it!! LOL

  • Krystina

For me, it’s bright eyeshadow colors and false lashes.
I can’t blend the bright colors right and end up clownish, so I stay away from them even though I love them.

And I just give up on falsies. I’ve watched TONS of tuts and tried little tips, but I just can’t get them. Maybe I can get one right, but not the other. lol.

  • sabrina

I don’t understand blush…what is the purpose of a black person? I don’t normally change colors when I’m actually BLUSHING! I usually feel like Bozo the Clown when I put it on…

  • yummy411

hmmm my problem area: polishing my nails! a clear and distinct difference between what the nail tech does and what i do! booo! oh and learning to keep the feet baby bottom smooth!

  • Miss Yaya

-polishing my right hand as well as my left – as QUICKLY as my left… if u give me hours i’ll get both of them done right
-why all my “noncreasing” makeup.. CREASES
-mascara clumps :) why do they torment me so? all i want is volume!

  • Miss Yaya

oh and i almost forgot the #1 thing – why is this that everyone BUT me gets these fake nails to stay on for 2 weeks and my behind needs to wear gloves to shower (i’ve done it in the name of beauty LMAO!) to make them last FIVE or SIX days. now that? I JUST DON’T GET!

  • Shefali

Bronzers. Just don’t get it. They are so orange and it is so easy to tell when someone is wearing it! Plus, I have never found one that looks good on my olive-toned Indian (from India) skin.

  • Mel

BRONZER!!..I have oily skin and i just feel like im adding shine??LOL..idk

  • Sabrina

Eyeshadow!! I am horrid at creating the “faux crease”. Ive watched video upon video and the concept seems to lost on me.
