Urban Decay revamps Primer Potion

Back in the day when Clumps of Mascara was a baby blog and had a good 2-3 readers, I wrote a post on Urban Decay’s Primer Potion and how the packaging is worse then finding an expired coupon.

I ain’t playing…it was pretty terrible.

I’d like to think that I am responsible for the “cutting UDPP down the middle to reveal more product” idea going mainstream. Nah, I’m jivin’, but ’til this day, that is my most popular post. Ever.

Ain’t that somethin’? You can check it out HERE.

I wrote that post a little over a year ago.
Fast forward to 2009 and guess what Urban Decay has done?

Blackberry coconut zebra!!

(I can’t be the only person that shouts
random words when they get excited…lol)

I feel like Urban Decay should have thrown “New packaging unveiling” parties all over the world. This is such a big deal to me. Many of us beauty bloggers, YouTube gurus and consumers expressed our frustration and outright annoyance with the way that the initial wand went STRAIGHT down in the tube. A LOT of us ended up throwing away what we thought were empty tubes, when in reality, over 60% of the product was left.

*tisk tisk*

Dissatisfaction in large numbers can lead to changes, people. We did it!

I actually STOPPED using this product because I got irritated with always having to do surgery on it just to get my $17 worth of primer. Will I trash my Too Faced Shadow Insurance primer and stock up on UDPP? Hells no. But I don’t mind finally trying the Primer Potion in Sin.

Now that looks hot. Has anyone tried it?

Will the new wand work? We shall seeee! The Primer with the new wand will only be availabile at UrbanDecay.com for now.

Sin shall be mine!

…..the primer, Mom. Not like sin SIN. :)

will it work? hmmmmmmmm, we shall see.

i still think there will be stuff left in there.

  • Connie De Alwis

years and years and all they managed to come up with is a slanted applicator? I think it’ll be slightly better but still not a lot better. there’s no way it could scrape out the bottom and the wide middle…

  • ~tHiAmErE~

    tsk tsk…
do they expect that a slanted applicator can scoop out everything?…

    *sigh*

i love this product but if they’re not gonna do anything about the packaging i might switch to TFSI

  • BeautyTalk

I found you through that post! :)

  • Askmewhats

I remembered your post about the surgery! and I was like, what is that?? Because I didn’t own any UDPP at that time yet :) Thanks for sharing , gosh the new packaging? I do wonder if it works or do we still need another surgery? I’d love to know! :)

  • juvenescent

Guess what UD, I’m still boycotting this product. I can slant a wand, I need you to redo the tube. That slanted crap isn’t going to get my $5 out of the bottom of that tube. Are they serious? I’ll stick to Too Faced.

  • The Pretty Brown Girl

I don’t trust this “new packaging” claim, B.

Is it really new packaging? I don’t think so. It’s the same, just w/a slanted wand. Would it kill them to use a pot or a little squeeze tube?

I’ll wait until you do another product review, because I do still want to try this. Until then, I’ll stick to my TFSI. ;)

  • Tonisha

I’m cosignin’ with BeautyTalk…that’s how I found your blog. I’m glad I did!! TFSI is the business for me though. I still want to try UDPP.

  • Erin

Um….I vote NO!!! Like Juvenescent said, I can slant the wand maself. How bout they make the tube just like the Too Faced Shadow Insurance!!!

I’m still sticking with Too Faced, though because I can blend the e/s better with it than UDPP.

  • girl, Decorated

Thanks for the update. I’m glad the online blog controversy about UDPP generated SOME company response, but I’m disappointed that this was the best they could come up with. I’ll be reposting your link.

  • jilliandanica

i think the wand has some potential. definitely better than the original, but i still think they should have revamped the entire thing.

  • Coco

The rumor on Specktra was that they were going to change the bottle all together, which probably would have made the most sense. Is this new wand out now? Too bad I just bought another bottle of the stuff with the old wand. I just can’t bring myself to try Too Faced Shadow Insurance because I know I won’t like it as much as the UDPP. Thanks for the post!

  • Witty

I found you through that post as well!

I’m a fan of TFSI so I don’t think I’ll be trying it new wand or not.

  • Milan Angel

I’m not sure the slant brush will solve the issue. Seems to me the product will just get swept back down into the bottle when you pull it out, no? I still love UDPP though! I have yet to finish one bottle though…so no surgery yet.

I reviewed Sin on my blog. It creased on me something serious. But still a pretty color to wash over the lid. I would suggest using a backup primer though!

  • nilla cookie

Awesome B! I actually NEVER even tried UDPP because of your post and fell in love with Too Faced instead.

Since I found a great primer, I’m not sure if I want to open Pandora’s Box by trying the new release. I’m a total junkie tho so we’ll see, LOL ;)

  • adorepink

Haha at those random words of excitement…
I’ve always wanted to try UD Primer…I hate that my eyeshadow disappears before I even have a chance to look at it again. Ugh.
That new wand is a great idea…

  • Shefali

This is huge news. Your UDPP “depotting” post was how I started reading your blog a year ago! And stopped buying UDPP. I switched to Too Faced’s primer and am totally happy. Not switching back…but I do like UDPP’s Sin and just might think about buying it now!

  • Miss Yaya

i think this wand might not get everything anyway and cutting will still be necessary, but it might help a little

and omg at the blackberry coconut zebra you had me cryin at my desk

  • Anonymous

A step in the right direction, just when I bought TF shadow insurance – oh well.
I also don’t think the UDPP slanted wand will get all of the product out. They can leave the curvy outer tube, but have a straight inner tube to allow maximum product usage. I actually didn’t mind cutting open the tube and scraping the rest out to a jar, but I found that the primer dried out and lost consistensy and the ability to hold shadow after only a couple of months.

  • GS

    Blackberry coconut zebra… LOL!!!

Yes, I think that UDPP post is what made you famous… actually that is how I found your blog.

  • Tysh

Instead of changing the wand change the damn tube. LOL

  • Anonymous

I would love them to put this stuff into something like a chapstick tube so I could just smear it across my lids.

  • B

Anon—> OMG, that makes sooo much sense. Honey, I think you need to be working for Urban Decay. LOL!
