Mascara Monday: Lancome Oscillation

The Mascara Bin has been a tad bit incomplete. How can I neglect reviewing one of THEE most innovative mascaras out on the market right now? Lancome’s Oscillation is the first vibrating mascara to go mainstream. Is it really worth the $35 price tag? Hmmm…check out the review!
Lancome Oscillation mascara

Price: 3 out of 5 (around $34.00 )

Packaging (Brush Wand): 5 out of 5
Overall: 5 out of 5

What it claims: ” Press the button and experience a breakthrough sensation in application. In one easy new gesture, let the vibrating brush combined with an exquisitely smooth formula wrap every lash up to 360 degrees.” (source)

The truth:
I see why this mascara is so expensive. You really do get what you pay for. The wand is great too. Small enough to get those little corners and perfect for my smaller lashes sisters.

What I loved about it: I got super long lashes. I mean I was impressed!

What I didn’t like: The price is a bit steep for a mascara. Even if it works well. And especially if you have to toss it every three months.

Overall: Finally!! I am so delayed on reviewing this mascara. It has been out for months and I am JUST now getting to it. I’ll be honest—I had a bit of an attitude with Lady Oscillation simply because she was so expensive. I haven’t been into make-up THAT long but in all of my years, I never heard of a mascara being more than $20. Granted, I am bit of drugstore diva. But still.

Simply put, Oscillation is amazing! There is hype for this $34 mascara for a reason. My lashes have never looked so long before! I’m serious. Your lashes are coated evenly which give you a good amount of volume. And the wand is ideal for separation. I love that it is water-resistant and um, clumps? Nope….I didn’t experience any. The only compliant that I can think of that people may have with Oscillation is that it is a little heavy on the lashes. This wasn’t a problem for me, but I can see how it can be an issue for others.
Another thing about Oscillation is that one coat does the trick. In the photos below I only used one coat. I find that vibrating mascaras work best with only one coat. Two and three are a little TOO much, in my opinion. That and you risk running into clumps. Oscillation’s vibrating wand has 7,000 oscillations a minute and you feel every bit of it. If your eyes tend to water easily, you may endure some watering with small strokes of Oscillation.
And I’m sure you’re wondering how Oscillation compares to Maybelline’s Pulse Perfection; the drugstore vibrating mascara. I compared the two a bit in my video but will do a formal review soon. Stay tuned for that!

My shocked face!

This bad boy even comes with directions…..

Would I recommend it?: Absolutely!

–let me know what you think about that video. I’m using iMovie for the first time and am still trying to get the hang of it.
So what do you think? You want it? Got it? Love it? Hate? Tell me!

I've been curious about this mascara but, I can't get past the $34 price tag.

  • Janice

ooh ooh! nice 1. I'm wishing to get this when it launched. It's a little too hard for me to dig out the price for that. Therefore I'm behaving nicely so santa can bring me 1 during x-mas… :D

  • Askmewhats

awww I am loving this too and so does my clients! they find it amazing :) thanks for sharing your review, I've been putting the review off for quite some time too! lol

  • Shefali

I have this mascara and I absolutely love it! It really does what it claims to do.

  • Rachel

For $34 it should give me a manicure and pedicare too. It damned well better have earned a 5 rating for that pricetag!

And I thought $24.50 for Difinicils Pro was awful! Sorry, I just can't pay that ($34) for mascara every 3 months…even on my salary.

Ladies, Brittany hasn't posted it here, but if you're using a MAX FACTOR product, stock up now. Procter & Gamble announced in June that they were going to cease distribution of MF products in the US in 2010 and sell those products overseas only. So no more Volume Coutoure!

  • Shen

me too! same as nikki, i'm still getting as much as i can from thi mascara before i recommend it to my readers since its pricier here in Manila. :) But let's just keep it a secret, this mascara is one of the best luxury brand mascara I've tried. :)

  • Andrea

I have been wondering about this one..I use Lancome's Definicils(and love it!),but I will buy this one the next time! Thanks for the review!
B/T/W…Is that matte polish on your nails? It is soooo pretty!!

  • B

Adriene—> I know, it is tough.

Janice—> Absolutely! And hopefully the price will go down in December.

Nikki—> I see it in a lot of your FOTDs so I know you're a fan.

    Shefali—> Woo woo!!

    Rachel—> LOL @ mani/pedi. Girl, I feel you on that! Seriously….

Shen—> LOL @ keeping it a secret. I feel like I have to tell the whole world!

Andrea—> Thanks for reading it, mama. That matte polish is Zoya's Posh. Loves it!!

  • Danielle

I LOVE this mascara (even more because I got it for free at a blog giveaway!)! I have the Pulse Perfection too, but it doesn't measure up to the Oscillation. I found that the Oscillation got a bit clumpy as time went on, but I left it in my desk drawer for a few weeks and now it's good as new! I can't explain it!

B, you should review Estee Lauder MagnaScopic mascara. I LOVE IT!!

  • Lauren

I have this mascara also and I love it! Maybe it's partly because I'm lazy and the wand does all of the work for me, lol! Either way, it's great!

  • Pumps and Gloss

Girrrl, I want this ASAP!! I have seen it on QVC and I almost broke down and bought a set of 2… ;_(.. Great reveiw!!

  • Danielle
  • Missy~Ann

I too, am a BIG fan of this mascara! I like to layer it over my Hypnose to separate and lengthen! I just found your blog, super cute!

  • B

    Danielle—> Yep, I saw it. :) Thanks!

Missy-Ann—> Thanks so much for the visit.

  • ‘Funlayo

My sister uses this mascara and I asked her if she had falsies on because her lashes looked SOO long and full! And we both have like NO lashes without the mascara. It's gone down to $30 and methinks I'm gonna go by Sephora and get some today!

  • B

Funlayo—> It’s $30? Dang!! Tell me where. That means I need to stock up. Despite me having to continuously review a new mascara, I keep running back to Oscillation. It is definitely in my Top 5 Favorite Mascaras list.

  • Jenny

super shocked that you like this. I think it is awful :( Maybe I'm just a sucker for tradition…

  • B

Jenny—> Reallly? Aww man. Couldn't get use to the vibrating? It look me a while to get used to it.

  • buy viagra
