Beauty Review: Philosophy Purity Made Simple facial cleanser

| February 2, 2010 | 22 Comments

Well y’all…it’s about time I review the cleanser I’ve been using and loving for months now. Philosophy’s Purity ain’t new to the skincare world. This Best of Sephora winner in 2008 is probably one of the best cleansers I have ever used. Let’s get down to the basics.

Hit the jump to get the skinny….

This baby comes in many different sizes. What you see is the 8 oz for $20 but they also have…

3 oz for $10
16 oz for $32
24 oz for $40

I’ve seen that 24 oz in person before. It is huge, y’all! Why any one needs THAT much cleanser at a time is beyond me. Ha! Either way, the cleanser can be considered a tad bit pricey. I recommend grabbing the 3 oz if you are super skeptical. But I think you’ll be back because the cleanser delivers.

What they say it’s supposed to do:
“Philosophy Purity Made Simple is a ph-balanced formula that rapidly dissolves dirt and makeup while deep cleaning pores. The best-selling cleanser contains infusions of sage, chamomile, and carrot.” (source)

Pretty simple, uh? Oh wait—they already said that. I love how creamy it is.

In fact, it doesn’t really feel like your typical cleanser. And when it hits water, instead of foaming, it produces a few bubbles that feel heavenly on the face.

I typically use this with my Clarisonic Mia and I LOVE it. It doesn’t have any strong scents and does not leave the skin streaky clean. At the same time, however, I can always tell that my skin got a good cleansing. This has been the only cleanser I have used for the past few months and my acne prone skin has been actin’ right. Holla!

So yes…it really is that simple. I love this stuff and will definitely be purchasing again. And again. And probably again.

Have y’all tried Purity? Any Philosophy fans out there?

I just got my 8 oz bottle of Purity but yet to use it! Having read your review, I'm sure I'll love it too as many have :)

  2. LipGlossGossip says:

    Ha ha…24oz, Girl I got a 32oz! LOL! I love my Purity! :D

It was a good deal I just couldn't pass it up! :p

  3. adorepink says:

I love how simple this looks/sounds. Sometimes we tend to go overboard when really we just need to simplify it. And I love that there are different price points for this. You can try it out for 10 dollars and move on up if you like it!

Today would be a great day to check out QVC. They sell the Philosophy line and in celebration of Groundhog Day, every item on air and on-line is available for 4 easy payments. (too bad I'm flat broke)

  5. Gin says:

LOVE the Purity Made Simple. It made my acne-prone skin behave–miraculous!

  6. Nikia says:

I just discovered this stuff about a month ago, and I love it so much that I went and bought the 32 oz on QVC. They had it on easy pay, AND auto delivery. I use it on my face, neck, decolletage, shoulders, and back. Now I have pretty skin all over.

  7. Jennifer says:

    Yes!! I love this stuff!!

  8. Gigi says:

I've been seriously thinking about trying this! :) Now even more. MY drugstore cleansers (Noxema, and even Garnier scrub) have not been cutting it. I always have to use pond's cold cream after and a toner to get ALL the make up off.. and I don't even use that much.

  9. Katrina says:

Yes I am a philosophy girl. Also use their Hope in a jar. Great moisturizer.

  10. ~J says:

I just started using Purity on Saturday. Love it. Right along with its BFF, Clarisonic Pro.

  11. MsFarrah says:

OK, so after reading htis blog about Philosphy this morning, i drove to Tampa to go to the Sephora store and purchase this product along with the moisturizer!! i can't wait to try it out tonight:)

  12. Alabaster Lacquer says:

I have used purity for years and it replaced my cleanser and makeup remover because it is THAT good! I couldn't believe a simple cleanser could break down heavy makeup like it did. I mean when I would go out sometimes and put tons of makeup on and I would use this to remove it, I love it. I need some more though.

  13. Sparklz and Shine says:

Been loving this for about 2 years now, breaks down makeup like a dream, no problems using it on the eyes or anything. Dosen't quite cope ith some of the heavier liners or mascaras though. great product

  14. Anonymous says:

This is the best cleanser ever! I've been using it for years and use it also with my Clarisonic! I won't use anything else. If you go to the QVC website you can get a 32oz. pump bottle for about $48. My sister and I use it and we have it on auto-delivery! The best best best cleanser ever!

  15. sabrina says:

I've never used it, but you should check Marshall's or TJMaxx. The ones here have Philosophy stuff often and at a discount. I'm gonna check and see if the one by me has this. I've been looking for a better cleanser than my Neutrogenia.

  16. BeautyMaven says:

I use this! It is AMAZING!! And I love the text on the bottle– It reminds me to take a moment to relax in the morning =) But this cleanser smells SO good, really cleans without drying, and it gentle around your eyes. Love it!!

  17. Christine says:

I use the "high foaming" version of this and love it!

  18. Giselle says:

ahh i hate admitting when a product is good lol but damn…i have super sensitive skin with redness, this is the only cleanser that has improved my skin in so many ways. damn you philosophy….i'm hooked haha

  19. jacqueline says:

I am a huge fan of this, and have even convinced a few friends to come along with me. I've been using it about 2 years now, and there's no comparison.

I had a sample of a Garnier creamy face wash that I though might be a cheap alternative, but it felt like petroleum & felt a little nasty, so I threw it out. Purity all the way!

  20. T says:

the best.. when i stop using it , i get acne( and im not acne prone at all).. when i useit , i have beautiful glowing skin…
going to buy the biggest bottle they have today , b/c i have run out ( hence my dry irritated, skin right now)

  21. Jennie says:

I have been using purity cleanser for a year and it works great on my dry skin.

  22. Monica says:

I was confused to choose a right cleanser for me. I was recommended this cleanser by myskin.com after analyzing my skin profile and results are awesome. Thanks to myskin.com.
