Mascara Monday:Hard Candy Lash Call Lengthening mascara

Along with sending a hearty hello to all of Brittany’s fabulous readers, allow me to introduce myself. My name is Asha and I’m a college friend Britt trusted to do a guest mascara review. I’ll do my best to make her proud. Ahem!*clears throat* Here goes nothing:

One of my personal mottos is this: Every girl needs her daily dose of Urban Decay. So, when I discovered the company selling its Hard Candy cosmetics in Wal-Mart, well your girl just had to jump on it. I decided to try Hard Candy’s Lash Call Lengthening Mascara and see if it gives Urban Decay quality without the designer price tag. Did it deliver? Don’t be lazy, keep reading!

Hard Candy Lash Call
Lengthening mascara

Price: 5 out of 5 (I bought it for $6 at Wal-Mart. *High five* to all the frugalistas out there)
Packaging (Brush Wand): 4 out of 5
Overall: 4 out of 5

What it claims:
“Just one application of this rich mascara sends lashes to new lengths!”
The truth: It got me about 85% of the way before I had to call cab .
What I loved about it: I really adore the design of the wand. It’s thin so I don’t constantly poke my eye out. Oh, and along with being animal friendly, it’s got some pretty gorgeous body art.
What I didn’t like: It gives you length but not much volume. I like a little fluff!
Overall: I was intrigued by Hard Candy ads in magazines as a kid. It didn’t help that my mom tried to forbid me from wearing make-up until I was 17. Booooo! We see how well that worked, didn’t we? Anywho, I almost did 14 back-flips when I saw the Hard Candy display when grocery shopping. Being the avid fan of Urban Decay’s quality and answering the question, “Are those your real lashes?” I figured I would fall in love with this mascara. It did a good job but it wasn’t great.

The thin wand intrigued me the most.

I can not tell you how many times I’ve poked myself in the eyes or how many clumping issues bigger, more complex wands have given me. This mascara allows you to apply however many coats you want without all the extra fuss—but you’ll have to sacrifice a little fluff.

Trying to find a mascara that takes you to “new lengths” and gives you maximum volume is like trying to find a 4-leaf-clover (Go me for that nice St. Patty’s Day plug!). I love volume—when I’m in the car, I crank it up, when I do my hair, I tease it up and, when I dress my lashes, I like ‘em mega, honey!
Hard Candy claims the formula in this mascara is exclusive and I they must be on to something because it dries pretty quickly and is easy to clean up. Just don’t go see any tearjerkers while rocking these babies. Lash Call Lengthening Mascara comes in 6 fun colors to match your mood. This mascara will give you its all but it’s up to you what you decide to do with it. I liked it just fine!

Lashes without mascara
(did not curl lashes)

Lashes with 1 coat of mascara

Lashes with 2 coats of mascara

Would I recommend it?: Yes ma’am. It gets the job done, especially if you’re on a budget or value having options.
[B’s add-in: I wanna try! How insane is it that I can’t find Hardy Candy anywhere? Asha and I live minutes away from each other and I am ca-learly in the wrong Wally World. Ugh!! Any Hard Candy fans?]

"I was intrigued by Hard Candy ads in magazines as a kid."

Girl, how old are you? lol. Better question, how old am I? I remember Hard Candy ads from my early 20s.

I like effects of the mascara you posted. There's no Wal Mart near me. Can I purchase it from Wal-Mart's website?

Hey all–this is Asha, the one who wrote the guest review.

I believe Hard Candy was founded in 1995 by sisters, Dineh and Pooneh Mohajer. I was only 9 years old in '95 (so, I'm in my early 20s now) but I would take trips to the corner pharmacy and read beauty/teen magazines and fixate on anything make-up related.

I appreciate those who think I'm hilarious–much better than those who call me "certifiable." LOL!

Again, I'm so GRATEFUL to Britt, for letting me be a part of her world and brilliant blog!

I just bought this mascara today and the formula is good but the brush is horrible! There is way too much product on the brush and you can't spread it around. I made it work though- I used the wand from my Lash Blast Length (that I was about to throw away bc it was old) and now it works perfectly! My lashes look really long and pretty. The only thing is, if I didn't have my Lash Blast Length lying around, this mascara would've bombed. So I suggest that you just buy Lash Blast Length instead bc it works just as well.
