Shea Moisture’s Organic African Black Soap wash is the bee’s elbows!

Yes, I am still in love with Shea Moisture. Chances are I will try and do a post on every single one of their products. This is a mission that I will gladly accept because I haven’t been this smitten with a skincare line like this in quite a while. Funny thing about their products…they have the longest names ever.

Shea Moisture’s Organic African Black Soap Shea Butter Wash.

Meanwhile, in 2016….

Am I right? The super long names crack me up. Doesn’t mean I love Shea Moisture any less though.

Snagg-able (that’s a Clumps word, chyeah!) from Target and Walgreens, the body wash goes for $9.99 for a 13 oz bottle and has a faint yet distinctive smell. By that I mean, it has an earthy scent that is semi-strong while bathing, yet you can still catch a whiff of it hours later. I think it’s a great scent for guys and girls. It’s the perfect body wash for everyone in the household. In fact, you may have to side-eye your guy for using it. It comes without all of the icky synthetic ingredients too.

It lathers up nicely and has a jelly consistency to it.

I spent a good 5 minutes trying to figure out what those black beads are. Teeny tiny hardened black soap? Maybe. The body wash is targeted for those of us with acne and troubled skin. Uh yeah…that would be me. While I don’t suffer from bacne (acne on your back), I do have terrible eczema on my lower back, shoulders and arms. I wasn’t looking for this body wash to get rid of it but it’s good to know that it didn’t exacerbate it. I use it on my face too. Why not? *shrugs*

Yep. Another winner from Shea Moisture! Have y’all tried this yet?

      Alriiiiight, another Shea Moisture lova!

I have never tried this product before… but I’ll surely give this a try… is it moisturizing?

    • Brittany

It iiiis. It feels divine on the skin. It’ll leave you super soft.

  • Lish

I have exzema on my left arm so I need this in my world

    • Brittany

Give it a try. It doesn’t clear up my eczema (I need a dermatologist’s prescribed meds for that) but it doesn’t make it worse. Which is a total win.

  • Moni

I sometimes get bacne and chestne (yes, I make up words for it), so this would be wonderful. I have dry skin on the rest of my body. Does it dry out your skin?

    • Brittany

Not at all. The black soap is super moisturizing. Products that dry my skin out make my skin even WORST so nope, I definitely recommend this for super dry and acne prone skin.

  • Lisa

I love their shampoos ! I use the Coconut & Hibiscus Curl & Shine and also the Raw Shea Butter Moisture Retention shampoos. Excellent !

    • Brittany

Have yet to try their Moisture Retention shampoos. They’re on my list.

So my apologies if the is a seriously lame question, but what makes a product for men & women of color different from all the other bazillion products out there? I am a white girl with some crazy hormonal adult acnes, and yay… psoriasis on my scalp too. I am F’ing desperate and have tried everything. I am wondering if there is any reason I should not wash my hair and face with this stuff. Thoughts? Also, does it remove make-up?

ANY input would be much appreciated.

There isn’t a difference. It’s just marketing. I say buy products based on what your needs are. Try it and see if it works for you.

Hi Clare. I believe that this company was founded by an African American woman. Many African American women look for beauty products that are more pure and natural that will not dry out the skin and hair. Black soap has many properties that are great for the skin and is known to be excellent for people with eczema. The Shea Moisture company has excellent products and may be used by anyone.

I share the same sentiments about this brand, I just got the African Black Soap Shea Butter Body Wash and I am in love. I have to ask my hubby to purchase abroad but it is wort every penny. I have used many natural brands and this is not just natural, it is luxurious and the richness just blows me away.

i prefer the bar black soap of the shea butter!! the liquid body wash of the black soap is too gritty for my body.

    • Brittany
