Mascara Monday: Lancôme HYPNÔSE Doll Lashes mascara

Yay! Lancôme has a new mascara. It’s been a while since we’ve seen one from one of my favorite high-end mascara brands. This mascara promises to give flirty doll-like lashes with its paraben-free formula. I know, right? Who knew Lancôme had a paraben-free mascara? Woo hoo!

Price: $25 at Sephora stores and Sephora.com
Packaging (brush wand): 5 out of 5
Overall: 4 out of 5

What It Claims: Per Sephora.com

This mascara helps create Lancôme’s most flirtatious lash look. A new, unique, cone-shaped brush provides an extremely smooth application, precisely defining even your hard-to-reach corners and lower lashes. This expert formula lifts and thickens every single lash without weighing it down. (source)

The Truth: Totally loving this one!

What I Loved About It: The wand is pretty epic. We haven’t seen one like this before. The cone-shape makes it super easy to get those corners and apply on the bottom lashes.

What I Didn’t Like: The formula didn’t seem to be as long lasting as other Lancôme mascaras.

Overall: One of the most common questions I get when it comes to Lancôme mascaras is “How does X-Lancôme mascara compare to Y-Lancôme?” Wanna know the truth? I can hardly remember Lancôme Définicils Precious Cells  from Lancôme Oscillation Intensity. Having reviewed more than 100 mascara, I tend to forget the pros and cons of many mascaras. In fact, most times, I have to search through the Mascara Bin to remember my own experiences with a mascara.Crazy, uh?

Anywhoovers , can we really talk about what surprised me most about this mascara? The fact that is comes without so many bad stuffs.

Really Lancôme? I’m not complaining but I didn’t think you had it in you. It’s hard to find a higher-end brand that omits parbens and synthetic dyes and fragrances. I’m elated! Lancôme won even more cool points with me. And it doesn’t hurt that the mascara isn’t too shabby either. I found the formula to be a little on the thick side but nothing too outrageous. I had such a fun time using the wand. It really made getting into the corners a breeze. While I am usually a 2-coat mascara applier, I pushed it to the limit and applied 3 coats. And I didn’t run into any clumps either. The formula got a little wonky but with slow and smooth strokes, you can really bring out your lashes on 3 coats. The only thing that stopped this mascara from receiving 5 out of 5 marks is because it doesn’t hold up as well as I would like it to. Granted, it’s not a waterproof mascara so it’s not its job to last for hours on end but still…

Do I recommend it?: Sure! Lancôme mascaras are on the pricey side but if you’re a higher-end lovin’ gal ,I think you’ll love this one.

Hey Lancôme lovers, have you tried this mascara yet?

This makes your lashes look great! The wand reminds me of lash stiletto which is my favorite for length..

    • Brittany

This one is as good as Stiletto. :)

I love how it looks on your lashes! Too bad about the price though.

    • Brittany

      Yeahhhh, Lancome is definitely higher-end.

I have used the stiletto and thought it was great. I must admit, I am not a high end girl on mascara, but I do like a good product. I really like the difference you showed in the pictures. It helps. I hate when someone with really long eyelashes is advertising something with the product already on. I want to see it bare and then the finished product.
Thanks again for the great info.

    • Brittany

      No problem, darlin’.

I love the wand!!! All mascara wands should look like that lol. I always smudge in the corners when I’m trying to apply on my teeny outer & inner lashes.

    • Brittany

I totally agree. We so need more wands like this in the mascara world.

  • victoria

It almost reminds me of Black Carat in that the finish is kind of glossy. It definitely gives a Doll-like effect in that each lash is incredibly thickened.

I would say this is a great thickening mascara as opposed to a volumizing one.

Probably the reason it doesn’t have great staying power is the lack of all the bad ingredients lol. But I give Lancome credit for getting on the natural bandwagon!

    • Brittany

Right you are, V. I’d attribute it not lasting AS long to the removal of the yucky ingredients. I’ll take it!

Ah, Lancome, how do I love thee, let me count the ways! I’m a diehard Lancome Hypnose Drama mascara user after receiving a mini version in a holiday train case some years back. I love the formula, how long it lasts (all day), as well as the curved wand…but the wand is so thick it’s hard to get to the lower and inner lashes. Doll lashes could be just the solution-thanks for the review!

    • Brittany

If you love Drama, you are going to LOVE this one. Let me know what you think when you give it a whirl.

  • Kate

how well does this mascara hold up against water?

    • Brittany

It’s not a waterproof mascara so it isn’t going to be the BEST.

  • Roe

Ah thank you so much for much for reviewing this I really wanted to try this so I can have a doll like look but I noticed its not waterproof , would you recommend this mascara to create a doll like look or something else?

    • Brittany

Yep, I totally recommend this one.

  • Jess

Too bad they test on animals :S

  • Stacie

I bought this one this weekend and I am disappointed that I spent this much money on it. It just didn’t “wow” me. Maybe I got a defective tube? I have such sparse lashes, that I always use a lash primer. (Currently, Clinique) I applied the usual coat of lash primer and 2 coats of the Baby Doll mascara. I got zero length and the volume wasn’t all that great. I tried a 3rd coat and got a bit more volume and a bit more length, but not the great results I was expecting. I did notice that it flaked on my halfway through my day. I tried it with just 2 coats and no primer and had the same results. So much potential, but it just wasn’t worth the $$. I DO love the wand and that it doesn’t clump…but that’s about it.

    • Brittany

Have you tried the original Hypnose Drama?

      • Stacie

No, I haven’t. Is it better than this version?

        • Brittany

It definitely depends on the user.
