Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment: My new favorite lip balm

| October 20, 2011 | 28 Comments

Okay, uh…how do I say this without coming off  as being waaaay over the top? I pretty much found the best lip balm EVER in life. And I know some of y’all out there are going to laugh and be like, “Really B? You say that all the time.” And in a sense, I do. I am always on the hunt for the best of the best when it comes to lip balms. Most times, my lips are drier than the freaking Sahara Desert and so I’ve got to be on top of the balm game.

That said, I am wondering why I’ve never given Fresh’s Sugar Lip Treatment a chance. I’ve heard phenomenal things about it from fellow beauty bloggers but just never gave into purchasing it.

Why?

Oh yeah. Because it retails for $22.50 that’s why. Cheapy McBritty over here (that’s me) can’t justify spending that much on a lip balm. Especially when so many good ones cost way less. But with some extra pennies in my pocket, I decided…”Why not?” After all, it would take way more than $22 to break me. More like $30. 8)

Dear Heavens, this is the BEST balm ever. Have I said that already? Please excuse my repeat phrases, but seriously guys and gals, you NEED this balm in your life. There was a reason why Julia recommended it to me. There is a reason why it has so many positive reviews on Sephora. This balm is fantastic!

Pros
-It’s paraben-free with no synthetic dyes and no phthalates
-The packaging is awesome! It’s a like a grown up lip balm
-It doesn’t have a horrible taste
-Has a nice and subtle scent. Very subtle
-It contains SPF 15
-It applies beautifully with a thick and super moisturizing consistency

Cons
-Super expensive for a lip balm
-You may have to reapply often
-You don’t get enough product for the price

Despite the Cons, I’d buy this balm over and over again. In fact, I need to buy some for work, home, my car and purse. Don’t worry. I won’t send myself to the poor house on account of purchasing balms. But if I did, it would be Fresh’s fault. Here’s to hoping they have a holiday set! They also have these in tinted shades and of course I need them all. Why so ‘spensive, Sugar lippy? I need y’all to be recession-friendly so I can hoard you all!!

Have you tried any of these lip balms?

  1. I have this in tinted rose but I don’t think the price is justifiable. Have you tried Jack Black Natural Mint SPF25? You should give that a go :)

I was so happy to see this post show up in my google reader! I just bought the holiday set through Sephora since the friends and fam sale started today (20% off everything, I’m there).

I have been hearing about this for so freaking long and then when I was browsing sephora last night I came across the gift set and knew it was meant to be. Anyways, the set has the passion, honey and plum colors and its only $28 for 3. They arent full size obvi but a little more than half the size of the full size which isnt bad.

I love Fresh’s lip balm! It’s my favorite, definitely. I keep the Sugar Rose in my posession at all times. I haven’t tried any of the other colors, but I used the original until the Sugar Rose color came out, which is pretty much perfect for what I need. Sephora does have a mini duo of the Rose and Plum colors. I can find it in their impulse section by the cash wrap. They also do have a hoiday set that retails for $28 and includes a full size of the balm plus a few other products. There is a different set for each different color. I am a little obsessed. ;)

Have you tried the Burts Bees original? Pretty good and only $3.50

I got Chapstick’s Fresh Effects Invigorating Green Tea Mint lip balm and it’s great. I hate the regular chapstick since it just sits on my mouth but this actually moisturizes my lips. And it was $1 at the 99 cents only store! Just in case anyone’s looking to try something new and extra cheap.

  6. Sounds fab but the price is not fab. If you would like to try our soft lips set let me know and I will be glad to send you the set for you to review on your site. The set is one lip pumice stick and then a Vit E stick. We love it.

I am going to try this based on your review. I recently purchased the Fresh Sugar Lip Polish, to help keep my babies exfoliated. I held off due to the price, and tried lots of other products, including homemade sugar/honey combos. But I LOVE the Sugar Lip Polish! Well worth the $$ and a little bit goes a LONG way. I expect it to keep me right all winter!

I haven’t tried any of the ones you mentioned, but will look into them. Great post!

I have been wanting to try this balm for some time. I always have it in my hand when in Sephora, but like you the price makes me put it back. I may have to put it on my Christmas wishlist.

This was the “Birthday Freebie” at Sephora for the month of January. That’s how I’m getting both the Sugar and the tinted Rose for FREE. I hope it lives up to the expectations set in your review! I’d have held off on buying my foundation had they not made this the free gift.

  13. Okay, B. I’m willing to go out on a limb with you here, though my wallet is screaming in desperation. So what makes this lip balm so fantastic? Does it just work where others haven’t? But then again, I am a fan of the carmex cherry tube and of rose salves. I think if I could get over the sticker shock, I might be able to give this a go…

It’s one of the smoothest balms I have ever tried. And it keeps the lippies sooooo moisturized. Of course, ya gotta stick with what works. But if you’re looking to try something new, give this baby a try .

  14. Ambreen says:

Hi B. I’m sorry but I really DON’T like this! First of all nobody should pay for it because…its free in the Sephora Birthday gift this yr! I went out to get my mom’s gift (mainly cuz I wanted to see what it was this year) so I tested it out. I really dislike the smell & the taste..blah. The gift you get comes with one clear one (like your post) and one called rose which has a bit of a color but when I put it on it is barely noticeable. Well this just my opinion. I would say get the freebie & see how you like it before shelling out the bucks!

I picked this up waaaaay before I knew it was available for birthdays. And even after my birthday rolled around, I forgot to get it. Ha!

I am a chapstick junkie and this is one of the best I’ve tried. I received it in the Seohora birthday package in 2012. But my absolute favorite is Jack Black in Chamomile. Affordable and awesome.
