True Story: My friend launched her own lipstick line.

Gather ’round, ya’ll. I got a quick story to tell you.

Once upon a time I met this fabulous makeup artist.
She was really nice.
And talented.
We became friends.
Then she started a blog.
And then she launched her own lipstick line.

I can’t even say “The End” because my girl, Safia Michelle of LipstickMixtapes.com is on such an upward moving incline, that she is bound to be on the cover of magazines. Oh wait. She’s done that too. I have this love for bragging about people. Especially about modest people. Anyway – okay. I’ll focus.

Safia recently launched the Lipstick Mixtapes collection. I’ll be sure to take pictures of all of the shades but I wanted her to pick out two of her favorites from the collection.

Say ‘Hi’ to Elyte and Esther.

Ahhh yes, I could not have asked for a better pair. Elyte is a blue-toned red and Esther is a rose-tinted neutral. Perfect picks!

Elyte….

Now we all know how much much I love a good red lipstick. This one gives life, honey! It also has a bit of a berry finish to it that I can appreciate

And then there’s Esther. I’ve never actually worn a nude like that. In fact, I don’t wear many nudes period. Which is a plum shame because um, uh…how do I say this without sounding cocky? Well…I kinda dig the way I look in this nude lippy. And darn me for not having given them many chances before. To show the true color of Esther, I used different lighting.

Like I do with all lipsticks, I used a balm underneath them to prevent drying. Wear time is average and I re-applied after a good 4-5 hours.

I’m so proud of my girl Safia and I will forever be a super fan of the brand Lipstick Mixtapes. Support indie brands and scoop up one of her shades. I’ve got my eyes on the hot pink Grindtime and the deep red The Blood next.

While Safia wanted to give me these to review, I felt better purchasing them from her. If you do end up purchasing from Lipstick Mixtapes, tell her B from Clumps of Mascara sent you!

They’re both really lovely on you – Elyte is especially gorgeous!

  • Moxie

That is great about Safia, and wonderful what a good friend you are to purchase and write about her lipsticks. I like both colors on you.

  • http://makeupkismet.blogspot.com Ashley

I hardly wear nudes too cause let’s face it, they’re kinda hard to pull off! There’s so much to do with the right skin tone & pigmentation of lips, too much fuss! But anyway, Ester looks fabulous on you! Great job, Safia ;)

  • Daintynymph

I also love the pink on you! Perhaps one reason you always avoided them was because what’s typically considered “nude” is generally way lighter than your actual lip color. In this case, it really makes your lips pop rather than giving the corpse look. I’m a big fan of contrast, so I love light, pale shades on darker skin (and prefer darker shades on my pasty face). I’m curious as to how you look in peachy “nudes”, but if that doesn’t work, pale pinks are totally your thing!

    • Brittany

That gives me some hope. I’m going to venture into peachy nudes now. Thankies!

Ooo! That’s so awesome! I’m not a huge lipstick person (but I’m trying!) but I love supporting indie, you got me there. You are rockin’ with Ester on, holy cow! Usually nudes look way too fake or settle into lines in an ugly sort-a way. What balm do you use underneath?

    • Brittany

      I was using Vaseline. Woot!

Both colors look great on you!

They look nice on you! I love you in the red :)

  • Katie

B please answer! I REALLY want to get Esther but I don’t know if I can pull it off. I’m an NW 47/50 in MAC, MUFE HD Foundation I am 178 and Bobbi Brown I am 8 Walnut. Esther looks sooooo gorgeous on you, I am not sure if it would work for me since I am darker than you. Please answer!

    • Brittany

Yes, yes, yes you can. And if it’s a little too pale for you, a dab of pink gloss in the middle of your lips should even it out a bit. ;)

  • http://positivelynice.blogspot.com Jyoan

Both colours look really pigmented, and so milky! I like. =D

But I don’t think I will ever get to buy the brand from halfway around the world. =(

  • Latoya

Girl you look HOTTTT in that nude pink. Its so hard to find the right nude lippie…I’ve been looking for months now. I have some full (damn near big) lips) so I haven’t quite found the right shade yet….

  • http://www.makeup4play.com/ Trice

Those lippies look hot on you especially the nude. You should wear nudes more often.

I really enjoy indie handmade lippies and appreciate the labor of love that goes into them… wait are these handmade? Or formulated in a lab?

    • Brittany

      A little bit of both.
