Mascara Monday: Mary Kay Lash Love mascara

Mary Kay Lash Love mascara

Where are my Mary Kay girls at? This is a highly requested mascara and I am so sorry that I am just now getting the opportunity to review it. I received this mascara for review and even before then so many of my gal pals were telling me how awesome this mascara is how it’s a travesty that I haven’t reviewed it yet. I know, I know. Well, here we goooo!

Price: $15 from and from a Mary Kay consultant
Packaging (brush wand): 4 out of 5
Overall: 3.5 out of 5

What It Claims: “Love your lashes with the mascara that defines, defends and delivers four times the volume while looking naturally flawless, soft and healthy. The flexible, sculpted brush separates and coats lashes.” (source)

The Truth: I found the volume to be just okay, but the length was niiiiice.

What I Loved About It: Um yeah. The length.

What I Didn’t Like: It was just a wee bit smudge-y for my liking.

Overall: I don’t try many Mary Kay products. Mainly because I kinda forget about the brand since they aren’t sold at Sephora, department stores or the drugstores. I know. Bad B. I should really be more hip to Mary Kay products because they really have some pretty awesome things. This mascara isn’t bad at all. In fact, I found myself wearing it weeks after I reviewed it. And that never happens.

I think most of the reason why it’s so awesome is because of the wand.

Even if you hate plastic wands, you HAVE to like this one. It’s got those nice and stiff bristles that are great at catching each and every lash. Crazy and wonky lashes like mine don’t stand a chance against this kind of wand. I loved how it combed straight through my lashes and helped elongate the lashes.

Volume-wise, I didn’t get much plumping but I think the wand is made more for lengthening than for volumizing. And I’m okay with that since the lengthening action was decent. The downfall to this mascara? I found it smudged a bit throughout the day. A top coat mascara like Anastasia Lash Genius should set it straight though. Otherwise, it’s  a decent mascara. The formula was easy to work with and I didn’t experience any clumps. So yeah, the smudging sucks but the mascara is still worth a try.

Do I recommend it?: If you’re a Mary Kay fan and/or really want to try a good lengthening mascara, I say give this one a whirl.

Any Mary Kay girls in the house? What do you think about this mascara?

  • Seems a little overpriced for the quality, I feel like there are far better drugstore mascaras. =(

I think for $15, I woukd expect a lot more from a mascara. I have never tried Mary Kay mascara, but I have tried other products from thieir brand and I really loved them.

  • Hey! Thanks for an honest opinion on the product. As a consultant, I get to hear the good and bad of every product I let people try. The volume problem has been a consistent concern from my customers too. Everyone LOVES the length they get, but the volume is not there. Our ultimate mascara is much better with the volume.

Lash Love also now comes in a waterproof form. That may help with smudging. Or, you could use the lash primer (what many of my customers use) to help with both the volume and smudging.

Thanks for reviewing our products and providing your honest opinion. I don’t mind hearing the good and the bad. It only helps me better serve my customers.

I have been using Mary Kay flawless mascara for 25 years and only this year found out that they switched formulas. I have tried the lengthening mascara and I don’t know if it’s the new style brush or different formula, but it goes on clumpy and I cannot get the length that I got with the old flawless mascara. Very disappointed in the new stuff and wish they would go back to the flawless formula.
