When I first heard about OPI doing a collection with the iconic Gwen Stefani, I was all like…”What took so long?” I mean, honestly…she should have had her own collection a long time ago, am I right? I actually had to sit down and explain who No Doubt was to my coworker’s little sister the other day and uh…I felt old. No Doubt rocked my high school years. I played Rock Steady daily. Love.Angel.Music.Baby gave me life. Gwen is my girl and when I did cartwheels (lol, not really tho) when press samples of this 7-piece collection landed in my mailbox.
Let’s do a quick overview of these babies…
I Sing In Color is a dark and vampy red. And even in the dark, it still looks red which is a big deal in my book. It reminds me a lot of Cult Nails’ Lamestain and it is just as sweet in that it doesn’t bleed into my cuticles. LOVE!
Love.Angel.Music.Baby is a gold matte with a satin-y formula and lemme tell you, I’ve never been a fan of golds but this one is goooorgeous. I’ve always been a fan of OPI’s satin formula. They do it beautifully. I’ve been meaning to do a look with this gold and black. Can you imagine how gorgeous that would be?
Hey Baby is a bright pink creme and there really isn’t much to say about this this one. You know how I feel about pinks. They are all starting to look the same at this point….
In True Stefani Fashion is a silver glitter with a nice amount of holographic glitter dumped in. I layered it over Hey Baby and it adds a nice little sparkle. It’s just an average glitter, though. Definitely something that most nail polish lovers probably already own.
4 In The Morning is a black satin. This has been done before but as I’ve mentioned, no one does this satin nail polish formula like OPI. This is such a perfect fit for Gwen’s collection. It’s smooth, sexy and applies like a dream.
This collection also features Push and Shove, a silver chrome and Over & Over A-Gwen, a red creme. Push and Shove comes in a set with a base coat and the silver chrome. It’s a beautiful chrome but somehow I found the lasting power to be only so so. And we all know OPI does reds beautifully so Over & Over A-Gwen is just fantastic.
I love everything about Gwen so I would have loved more umph in this collection. I do like the use of various texture and formulas and the shade ranges are nice, but I don’t know…this is Gwen we’re talking about. I need some more shock factor!
This collection is currently available anywhere OPI is sold. I’ve spotted every shade at Ulta for $9. Push and Shove goes for $14.99 because it wants to be all fancy and whatnot.
Any Gwen lovers out there? What do you think? Did this collection do her justice?
