FOTD Friday: My new camera, tattoos and yellow polish

Hi lovelies! Sooo…guess who got a new camera? Yes, it’s about time. One of the many roles that comes with being a blogger is attempting to be a photographer. I take it pretty seriously. For every 1 photo that I post, I took at least 12. Insane, right? For the most part my Sony Cybershot DSC W55 has been pretty solid for the three years I’ve had it. It’s in THEE worst condition but manages to crank out pretty good HD videos and photos.
But it was time to upgrade to a snazzier Sony Cybershot. I’m still learning how to use it but in the meantime, I’ve been taking some pretty cool random shots.
But first my FOTD. I really wanted to do a soft purple eye using some of my favorite Stila eye shadows.

But for whatever reason that didn’t come out too well.

And it’s written all over my face. The lippie, however, is a fabulous new lipstick from Lancome. Stay tuned for that feature! And now for random photos.

Wrist tat at the wheel.

Do you have any tattoos? The Clumps Facebook group had a TON to say about tats. Some ladies even posted theirs. And they are beautiful! Many of my friends told me that getting a tattoo there was a bad idea and that it would make me unemployable. Know what? Most people never even noticed it.

I have a little round window in my house that peers right into the window of a neighbor across the street. Sometimes when I’m wandering in the kitchen late at night for a drink of water,  I can see her wandering in her kitchen too. Strange!

Our past can  help us prepare for the future. Sankofa.

Any Erykah Badu fans? I have every single one of her albums and know all of the songs. She’ll be in concert in Miami and I won’t be able to make it. *tears*

I don’t like wire fences. I don’t like fences period. Unless they are at zoos. I don’t need a polar bear charging at me. But I don’t really like zoos either. I feel so bad for the animals.

Do you have any brands of polish where you only own ONE of the polishes? Such would be the case for Creative.

Yellow polishes! Like ’em? Hate ’em? Post on those coming soon…

I am really falling in love with photography again, y’all. I think I’ll take a class this summer.

Off I go to snap more shots.

Love y’all! Have a great weekend!

Natural Beauty: ONE hits Target

I just love how natural products and brands are becoming more widely available. AND affordable. I mean, two years ago you couldn’t find eco-friendly lip balms in your neighborhood Target.

Say hello to ONE.

ONE is brand that not only believes in healthy and natural formulations, but they also package their products in eco-friendly housing.

From the products that I tried, the skin conditioning bar ($6.49) is my favorite. It is full of lavender oil goodness but the packaging is also made from recyclable material.

I’m impressed at the relatively small ingredients list! The bar is amazing. It slathers on like a regular body butter but it isn’t greasy. And I love the fact that the smell isn’t too overpowering.

ONE also has hair products including solid shampoo and conditioner bars ($6.99).

Don’t judge its size. One of these is equivalent to three 8 oz bottles of shampoo. I haven’t tried it on my locs just yet but I will do a formal review soon.

We’ve covered body and hair so what could we be missing? Ah! Cosmetics, of course. ONE has lip butter balms ($2.99).

While I’m not the biggest fan of the scent, this shea butter based balm feels great on the lips without drying them out. The ingredients list makes me smile.

I’m lovin’ it! You can find ONE at any Target location.

Have you seen ONE in your Target yet?

Beauty Review: Mario Badescu Drying Lotion

Chin hairs.

The first time I saw them, I screamed. You see, I didn’t see them when I was in my bathroom and conveniently around some tweezers. I saw them while sitting in my car. You know how you’re at a stoplight and glaze into the rearview mirror just to take a quick peek at yourself? Yep. And there they were. Not one. Not two. But a good three chin hairs.

My first thought was, “I’m turning into a man.” Nah, I’m kidding. I’ve always known that with age, some women start sprouting a little more facial hair. Freakin’ A!! And then I remembered reading a review by Afrobella and how much she loooooved Mario Badescu’s Drying lotion.

I was wishing on a star that it could help alleviate those insane ingrown hairs I would get before a pesky hair sprouted its ugly head.

Did it work? Well, let’s get some background info about this Drying Lotion first.

The Mario Badescu website says it is an excellent Acne spot treatment made with a blend of Calamine and Salicylic Acid to clear up and soothe unsightly whiteheads overnight. A dab of this lotion will heal and dry pimples quickly.” (source)

Ingredients:

A 1 oz bottle will run you $17.00 but don’t complain about the price, sisters. Achieving and maintaining clear and healthy skin is an investment. Can I get an Amen?

When you purchase your bottle, it will look all pretty-fied like in the above picture. But after a few uses, it will look like this…

And here’s how it works…you take a Q-tip and stick it at the very bottom of the bottle.

The tip of your Q-tip should be saturated with the pink calamine.

Locate pimple and apply.

Or in my case, locate pesky chin pimples…

I know…it ain’t pretty. It just ain’t. But the good news is, the stuff actually works! While you may head to bed smelling a wee bit “medicinal”, the lotion literally helps clear up the pimple over night. Does it disappear? No. But is it smaller and less noticeable…absolutely! This will remain a staple in my skin care regimen. And I think I’ll be selling it in the Clumps store as well.

Don’t let the small size fool you. That bottle is a good 2.5 months old and I use it on at least one pimple every evening. So yes, while $17 is steep, I think you get your money’s worth considering how long it lasts.

You can find Mario Badescu at Ulta stores, online and any where else their products are sold. I remember seeing this line last year at The Makeup Show LA and not giving it a second thought. But after my success with the Drying Lotion and a sample of the Enzyme Revitalizing mask, I may be putting the Purity to the side and trying out the some of their cleansers.

What say you? Have you ever tried the Drying Lotion or any other Mario Badescu products?

Amor de Lacquer: Milani 3D Holographic polishes

Welcome to another post of Amor de Lacquer….the series all about nail polish and nail care! Send me your requests, suggestions and ideas to Brittany@ClumpsOfMascara.com.

This is the first time I’ve ever reviewed Milani polishes. But don’t get it twisted…I actually own about 7 of their polishes.  And yep, I love them! But this collection is just…AMAZING.

I mean, holos? Wow! Y’all know how much I love holographic polishes. I’ll admit that when I first saw these polishes in my local CVS, I blew them off. I felt as if I already had seen the best of the best of holo polishes. I was so wrong!

And here’s why…

HD

What an awesome silver holo! It looks deceiving because in the bottle and far away, it looks like a glitter. It is crazy blingy- and applies beautifully.

Hi-Tech

I reallllly love Hi-Tech. A lot! It really impressed me more on the nails than in the bottle. This is such a true holo. It looks good with two coats but three coats ensure that you get an opaque finish with a whole bunh of lemon-lime lovin’!

And it’s WAY better than  China Glaze’s L8R G8R!

Cyberspace

I think that Cyberspace looks a little funny on my nails, but I like it anyway. I love that it isn’t too warm or too cool. It reminds me of Miami Beach  and its sparkling water.

Hi-Res

Well hello there, you hot purple thang! This holo is absolutely stunning. And it took only two coats to achieve this radiant frosted plum finish.
I am missing a pink and gold. I’m not the biggest fan of gold nail polishes and the pink just wasn’t rockin’ my boat. Although some of these reach an opaque finish …If it weren’t for my girl, Yana over at MyOwnJudge.net, I would still be passing these babies by. I highly recommend them. You can snag them at your local drugstore for about $4.99.
Are you a fan of holographic polishes? Whatcha think about these?

Your fellow nail polish junkie,

My Most Expensive Lipstick ever!

Ohmigoodness! I can not believe I am just now getting around to showing y’all this beautiiiiful lippy. I snagged this some time ago in New York City. Yana from My Own Judge and I attended a Dolce & Gabanna Cosmetics event. We received fabulous make-overs and played around with the brands’ goodies. The amazing make-up artist Pat McGrath was there but we didn’t get a chance to meet her. Spam it, man!

Ah well…the next best thing to meeting a legend is indulging in a product that they love, right? Pat McGrath loves Dahlia.

I LOVE this lipstick. It is one of the  few that I can wear without touching up with a lip liner or gloss. It is sheer perfection. And it really works well on my skin tone.

And on the lippies…

I think this is the lipstick I will wear when I have to get my wisdom teeth pulled in a few weeks. Don’t laugh…a girl has to feel beautiful before she gets 4 teeth yanked out of her mouth. Sometimes I can’t believe I spent $30 on a friggin’ lipstick. It’s one huge buy for a cheap-o gal like myself. But every few days after the bills are paid I think it’s okay to treat yourself to something luxurious.

Do you splurge on any higher end brands? Dior? Chanel? What’s your favorite?

Degree Women Natureffects collection

Degree has won my heart over with the launch of their Natureffects collection. A few weeks ago Degree reached out to a few bloggers and sent us on a hunt to discover the meaning behind this collection. They sent us goodies representing each of the senses.

For smell, we got…

A beautiful bouquet of flowers. And for sight…

A pair of chic Tory Burch shades.

Taste…

A delicious orange and olive oil cake.

And for the sense of sound…

My girl Mary J’s newest album!

All of this led up to the Natureffects Collection

The fragrances Honeysuckle & Tea Tree Oil, Olive Leaf & Pink Pepper and Orange Flower and Cranberry are all inspired by nature and help heighten all of the body’s natural senses. Genius! Of course they all smell just divine. Orange Flower and Cranberry is my favorite.

And guess who performed at the FREE (!!!) launch party on March 22nd?

None other than Mary J. Blige in all of her fabulousness. I wasn’t able to attend the party so I played one of my favorite song by her and rocked out.

Kudos to Degree for not only releasing an awesome collection of deodorants and body mists but for connecting with bloggers. I also love their “daring to join forces with nature” theme. It’s true. Spending  some time nature does wonders for your mood. You can purchase the Natureffects collection anywhere deodorants are sold for $3.99.

Rock on, Degree!!

Photo of Mary came from Degree Women’s Facebook fan page. Join it here!

Mascara Monday: CoverGirl Lash Blast Fusion

Sooo, CoverGirl drops a new CoverGirl Last Blast. Is anyone just as excited as I am? The original promised insane volume. And according to my review…it delivered! Lash Blast Fusion is all about volume AND length? Was it hot? Or not so much?

CoverGirl Lash Blast Fusion mascara

Price: 5 out of 5
Packaging (Brush Wand): 5 out of 5
Overall: 4 out of 5

What it claims:
“Use Lash Blast Fusion to get a blast of volume plus incredible length! It’s the perfect fusion of Lash Blast’s super-volumizing brush and a buildable fiber-stretch lengthening formula that work together for dense, long-looking lashes!” (per packaging)

The truth:
Yay! I’m happy to see another fiber mascara on the market. And with the Lash Blast wand? Awesome!
What I loved about it: The wand!

Which is totally ironic because it took me forever to like the wand on the original…

What I didn’t like: The volume isn’t as va-va-voom as the original.

Overall:  I was SO excited to review this mascara. I mean, who didn’t love the original Lash Blast?  That’s really a rhetorical question, y’all. I know somewhere out there isn’t the biggest fan of it. I thought it was the ideal mascara for separation and volumizing.

Now first things first, know that the review in this mascara review is Black Brown. I usually use black mascaras and for that reason, the mascara may not POP as much as it does in my other mascara reviews. But you know what? I actually like the natural look that black brown mascaras give. I’ll have to be trying some more of these.

CoverGirl Lash Blast Fusion is a fiber mascara. Remember what a fiber mascara is? It’s all about little itty bitty “fiber-like” that are intended to attach on to your lashes. They are like washable extensions. You can get a good view of them in my video review.

Fusion seems to be a little lighter on the lashes than the original Lash Blast was. I also find that it clumps less. You can get a good 2-3 coats with this without entering Clumps City. And that’s a huge plus in my book. I didn’t experience any flaking and like most fiber mascaras, it rinses off without any problems.

So in terms of it being a good mascara on its own…yes, I think it is! But when comparing it to the original Lash Blast, I don’t think it’s THAT much better. They are both good. Period.

Lashes without mascara
(curled lashes)

Lashes with 2 coats of mascara

Would I recommend it?: The thing is…I experienced a good amount of length with the original Lash Blast. I can’t really see much of a difference between the two other than the visible “fibers”. If you haven’t tried the original Lash Blast, give this one a whirl. Or, you if you REALLY liked the original and just want to see if you can maximize your length, give this one a try.

Until next time…..

A crazed mascara reviewer,
