Mascara Review: You Request!

I haven’t done one of these in quite some time. But I think it’s that time again.

I receive a dozen mascara reviews weekly. It takes me some time to get to all of them, but I do the best I can. I have a few I am reviewing now but I thought I would open the door to more requests.
Leave a comment telling me what mascara you think I should review for the next Mascara Monday. The mascara with the most votes will be the one I select.
It really is that simple. If I can find it, I will try it..
So tell me!
What mascara should I review next?

Sista Show-Off: DailyWorth.com

Welcome to another post from the Sista Show Off series! In this series I like to show some love to other companies, blogs, businesses, organizations or just regular ladies like myself who are paving the way for women everywhere! Let me feature you! Shoot me an email at Brittany@ClumpsOfMascara.com
Stop where you are!!
Put down the lipgloss.
Do you REALLY a 18th bottle of lotion? I mean sure it smells good and it is on sale, but do you need it?
This 18-second video is SO dead on.

You know it’s true. At 24, I am discovering that my spending habits now will affect my financial future. I am cognizant and love the daily “nudge” I get from DailyWorth.com.

About Daily Worth:
“Dailyworth.com is a free daily financial newsletter written by and for women. Did you know that women are chronically under-earning and under-saving? Women are often willing to work for 1/3 the price that their male competitors charge – and to add to that, most of the financial resources on the web don’t speak the language that we can understand.

Dailyworth.com was created specifically to give women the tools to help them earn what they’re worth and generate their own wealth through savings.
Our newsletter has taken out the boring numbers talk from finance and made it fun and easy to understand. The emails are short, punchy and directly to the point.”
Now that’s my kind of newsletter! And the emails are colorful and witty. See!

So while some of the emails are little motivators, others are real life tips that we can apply to our financial lives.

Hop to it, sisters! Debt isn’t a good look on anyone and saving is really what’s hot.
Let me know what you think!

Amor de Lacquer: Zoya Matte Velvet collection

Welcome to another post of Amor de Lacquer….the series all about nail polish and nail care! Send me your requests, suggestions and ideas to Brittany@ClumpsOfMascara.com.

You knew it was coming, didn’t you? Another collection of matte polishes has surfaced and I have the review here for you. I have been playing around with matte polishes for a few months or so and Zoya’s are different from all of the other matte polishes I have dabbled around in. But different good or diffferent bad? Peep the review!

First, let’s see what Zoya says about their matte polishes,
“MATTE VELVET nail color by Zoya is not intended to be worn with a base coat, top coat or speed dryer of any kind. Due to the unique matte formulation, color is not as long wearing as traditional nail color. A completely clean, dry nail surface yields the best results for matte nail color wear.”

Meet the trio of this collection:

(left to right)
Posh
Loredana
Dovima

Posh

Zoya describes Posh as matte wine with shimmer. Okay this is random but how cool would this color be as a holographic? Wowseeers! I absolutely ADORE it as a matte. I had serious application issues that I chose not to clean up just to show you how rough Posh can be. LOL! Posh is thicker than the other 2 colors. Application has to be swift and I find that applying one coat and then immediately applying another coat is the trick. Posh really does look velvety on the nails. It’s gorg!
How cool is it that the polish residue has a matte finish?

Loredana

How does Loredana measure up to Man Glaze’s Fuggen Ugly? Simply put….it doesn’t. Loredana is described as a matte gunmetal with shimmer. It is relatively darker than Fuggen Ugly and I prefer Loredana. How gorgeous does she look with flash? Without flash, eh…but with flash, oh la laaaa!!

Dovima

Another black matte, gotta love that!! Don’t laugh at my rhyme. You know it’s dope. Look out for my album titled “Another Black Matte”. HA!! Dovima is pretty. I like her quite a bit. She is a little on the streaky side though. And it takes a little maintenance to get her under control. You have to apply a second coat immediately or you will run into a hot streaky mess.

Overall: Can I just say how much I love the frosted bottles and rubberized brush handles?
To the right is a regular Zoya bottle and to the left is a Zoya matte bottle. Loves iiiit!!
Well, I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again-you either like matte polishes or you don’t. I am a HUGE fan of them. I love all kinds of finishes with creams, mattes and holo’s being my favorites. Mattes take some work. They aren’t the “polish and go” kind of polishes. Each coat must be applied evenly and quickly. These matte polishes dry with the quickness.
When comparing them to other matte polishes, let’s just say Zoya calling this the “Velvet collection” is dead on. They really do feel velvety on the nails. Posh is strikingly unique. I got so many compliments on it! Do they chip? They do. I can only wear these polishes up to 2 days before chipping starts. I also endured some staining with Posh and call me crazy, but it’s worth it.
You can snag this limited edition here for only $6 a bottle. But hurry hurry, these babies will be gone before you know it.

Your fellow nail polish junkie,

Mascara Monday: Lancome Oscillation

The Mascara Bin has been a tad bit incomplete. How can I neglect reviewing one of THEE most innovative mascaras out on the market right now? Lancome’s Oscillation is the first vibrating mascara to go mainstream. Is it really worth the $35 price tag? Hmmm…check out the review!
Lancome Oscillation mascara

Price: 3 out of 5 (around $34.00 )

Packaging (Brush Wand): 5 out of 5
Overall: 5 out of 5

What it claims: ” Press the button and experience a breakthrough sensation in application. In one easy new gesture, let the vibrating brush combined with an exquisitely smooth formula wrap every lash up to 360 degrees.” (source)

The truth:
I see why this mascara is so expensive. You really do get what you pay for. The wand is great too. Small enough to get those little corners and perfect for my smaller lashes sisters.

What I loved about it: I got super long lashes. I mean I was impressed!

What I didn’t like: The price is a bit steep for a mascara. Even if it works well. And especially if you have to toss it every three months.

Overall: Finally!! I am so delayed on reviewing this mascara. It has been out for months and I am JUST now getting to it. I’ll be honest—I had a bit of an attitude with Lady Oscillation simply because she was so expensive. I haven’t been into make-up THAT long but in all of my years, I never heard of a mascara being more than $20. Granted, I am bit of drugstore diva. But still.

Simply put, Oscillation is amazing! There is hype for this $34 mascara for a reason. My lashes have never looked so long before! I’m serious. Your lashes are coated evenly which give you a good amount of volume. And the wand is ideal for separation. I love that it is water-resistant and um, clumps? Nope….I didn’t experience any. The only compliant that I can think of that people may have with Oscillation is that it is a little heavy on the lashes. This wasn’t a problem for me, but I can see how it can be an issue for others.
Another thing about Oscillation is that one coat does the trick. In the photos below I only used one coat. I find that vibrating mascaras work best with only one coat. Two and three are a little TOO much, in my opinion. That and you risk running into clumps. Oscillation’s vibrating wand has 7,000 oscillations a minute and you feel every bit of it. If your eyes tend to water easily, you may endure some watering with small strokes of Oscillation.
And I’m sure you’re wondering how Oscillation compares to Maybelline’s Pulse Perfection; the drugstore vibrating mascara. I compared the two a bit in my video but will do a formal review soon. Stay tuned for that!

This bad boy even comes with directions…..

Would I recommend it?: Absolutely!

–let me know what you think about that video. I’m using iMovie for the first time and am still trying to get the hang of it.
So what do you think? You want it? Got it? Love it? Hate? Tell me!

FOTD Friday: Bloggin’ Beauts event edition

It’s another Friiiiiday! Dang, already? I’m never the one to complain about the end of a work week but my goodness…..sometimes they come a little TOO quickly if you ask moi.
Okay, soooo…I wanted to make the Bloggin’ Beauts the star of this FOTD Friday. Last weekend I partied with some of NYC’s finest.
And I don’t mean celebs, I mean bloggers! I have gained quite a bit in my 2 years of blogging at Clumps of Mascara. Aside from connecting with all of y’all, I also get the chance to hob nob with fellow beauty bloggers. It really does my heart joy. Follow my POTD (place of the day) back to NYC and at the Beauty Beauts event!
Yesss, I’m back. I am a small city girl by nature but I ALWAYS feel at home in the Big Apple.
I didn’t have any concrete plans so I pretty much roamed the city most of Friday and Saturday. I I found myself in a Chanel boutique and while the purses and shoes made me want to swoon, I ran to the cosmetics area where I knew my $20 could get me “something”.
But I didn’t haul anything. Chanel Cosmetics are gorgeous but a little too rich for my blood. I’m just sayin’….
I give my little sister my Blackberry for a quick second and before I know it she’s taking photos like a true beauty blogger.
If she started swatching, I would have died. LOL!
I did some more roaming around and managed to catch some AWESOME shots of the city. Especially this one.
Fellow beauty blogger and NYC BFF, Adina.
And these photos were all taken by my Blackberry, so……wow!
Managed to see another Broadway play.
WICKED is soooo a must see.
Saturday was the day of the party and you know it’s serious when you see cosmetics on plates. Oh yes, we take beauty seriously around here.

The purpose of Bloggin’ Beauts was to not only network with other beauty bloggers but to also play around with make-up and introduce new brands.
A presentation on Arbonne…..
We were even pampered by Zoya celebrity make-up artist, Jackie. She is doing the nails of Mrs. Thevi Cosmetics herself!
A few of the ladies chit-chatting….
The ladies at the meet-up!

A ton of love to Yana for doing all of the things I couldn’t do to make this party a success. And I can’t forget all of our sponsors including Zoya, Purple Lab NYC, Orly, Solerra, Arbonne, 3 Custom Color, Tarte, Fingrs, My Pretty Pink Box, Thevi, Cerave, Korres, etc.

With transferring all of my photos from my PC to my new MacBook Pro (woo!) my pictures are currently inaccessible–hence why all of these photos came from my Blackberry. To view other lovely photos from our event, click HERE to visit the NYC Bloggin’ Beauts website.

Anyone thinking about coming to my neck of the woods for The Makeup Show Miami? I’ll show y’all how us Floridians party. LOL!

NYC Siting: Inglot Cosmetics

I am still all over the place with getting together posts from NYC. I am so behind but please hang in there with me.

Before I go into the fabulousness that was the Beauty Blogging event in NYC, I HAVE to tell you about this incredible line of cosmetics that my girl Adina introduced me too.

Inglot Cosmetics is rocking my world in more than one ways. Would you believe I visited this store three times in only two days? Oh yes…Inglot had my heart at the very beginning.

I desperately want to call the brand “Inglowwww” but it is pronounced “Inglot”.

Okay so the name isn’t as attractive as the brand but I promise you…walking in here is like walking in a cosmetic world of wonderfulness.

They have over 20 matte polishes!

Rows and rows of eye shadow colors stared at me.

They had a decent selection of foundations–some even being brown girl friendly!

The saleslady told me that this Poland-based brand actually has more products. They were not all out on the floor because—there wasn’t any space! You, see….Inglot is very new to the United States. 3 weeks old, to be exact.

Already a baby and I have a feeling that they are going to take the cosmetics world by storm. Not because the colors just look “pretty” but because they are uber unique! Check out my mini haul…

I can’t remember the prices but the palette was around $25 and the polish was $10. The gel liner and lippies were somewhere in between. Not bad, uh? And watch!! The palette does tricks!

It is magnetic and stackable, mama! How cool is that? The colors are not only highly pigmented but the palettes are customizeable. You can get trios, quads, quints (haha, is that the word?) and a palette of 10. You pick the colors, they pop them in the palettes. What fun!

*drools* I’m in love with the polishes. Mattes are so in right now and Inglot has a ton of them! I controlled myself and only purchased two. For now…

A rainbow gloss…

…layered on top of a purple lipstick….

Equals the best lip combo EVER! Photos of that coming soon.

I could go on and on about Inglot. And if I’ve got you wanting to snag some of these goodies, cool your jets, sister.

Inglot doesn’t have a formal website just yet. And they only have ONE store in the U.S. and that is in NYC’s Time Square. Bummer for those of us that don’t live there. I can’t wait to see how this brand grows and what surprises they have in store for us.

UK ladies, are you familiar with Inglot? Like it? Love it? Hate it?

Does Inglot catch your attention the way it caught mine?

Check out my video inside of NYC’s Inglot:

Eyeliner Face-off!!

It’s that time again!!

Once upon a time here at Clumps of Mascara I had an eyeliner face-off. That’s right. I rounded up a few of my favorite eyeliners; both drugstore and higher end put them to the test to see which ones were the most durable.

Because you know they ALL claim to be smudge-proof and waterproof. Yeah yeah…

“That’s what they all saaay!”

I decided to do another face-off. I have six teams this time around.

Meet the teams!

(from left to right)
Team N.Y.C. Waterproof eyeliner pencil (sky high)
Team Maybelline Unstoppable (onyx)
Team Rimmel Soft Kohl Kajal Eye pencil (jet black)
Team Tarte Emphas Eyes high definition eye pencil (green)
Team Urban Decay 24/7 glide-on eye pencils (covet)
Team MAC Pearlglide eye liner (rave)

Choose who you think we will now and see if you are right!

I took the liners through Three Rounds. Round I was Durability. I used them on the back side of one hand and left them there for a good 5 hours. Which liners made it the first round?

Team Maybelline and Team Tarte aren’t doing so hot this go round. Round II is the wet test. Which liners can last being submerged under water for a few seconds?

Team Rimmel is slowly sliding away this go round. Looks like Team N.Y.C., Urban Decay and MAC are holdin’ on! But will they last the final test? The ultimate tri-swatch test? I rubbed my fingers vigorously over the liners. You would never do this in real life but if the liners can stand up to this, they will really last on your eyes.

Would you have thought that Team N.Y.C. would win? Look how vibrant that blue is? Team Urb Dec and Team MAC didn’t do so bad either.

Can’t judge the liner by the price. For under $5 N.Y.C. really surprised me!

Rock on, N.Y.C. Cosmetics!

What are some of your favorite liners?

Tell me!
