Allow me to introduce myself…..

Hello Clumps Of Mascara family allow me to introduce myself. My name is Tamar and I’m the new assistant editor. I’m not new to this site but I am new to this family and this job. I cant wait to get to know all of you!

The reason I love COM is because its a place where everyone is welcome and Brittany has made me feel like its okay to mess up as long as you are learning in the process. I feel that we are all beautiful and we should encourage and uplift one another and this is the perfect outlet for that.

As the assistant editor I’m here to bring you all things beauty. What’s the big question? Is she a professional makeup artist? No way! I’m just a Texas girl that plays around with different looks and products. So please know that the things I write about are based on my experience. I just want to offer you guys a different look on some things that you want to try or have tried already.

So when you see me around greet me with a cyber hug because I’m in this family to stay!

Clumps goes to New York!

Or back to New York, I should say. All posts from here on out will come from the handy dandy Blackberry. I plan to share my entire experience while in New York and at The Makeup Show NYC with Clumps of Mascara readers. Don’t mind the randomness that the blog will take from now until next Wednesday. It won’t be routine, but it will be fun!

-The Makeup Show NYC contest winners have been contacted. Are you one? Check your email and email me back ASAP.

-Are you going to be in the NYC area around the same time that I will be? Heyyyy! Let’s meet up!

-Keep the emails a coming! My responses may be a little delayed but I will respond!

-A guest post or two may pop up. Don’t be alarmed. She’s great!

…..off I go, family.

Stay beautiful!

Amor de Lacquer: Revlon’s Runway Collection Nails

Welcome to another post of Amor de Lacquer….the series all about nail polish and nail care! Send me your requests, suggestions and ideas to Brittany@ClumpsOfMascara.com.

I had the opportunity to test drive Revlon’s Runway glue-on nails. I haven’t worn a pair of fake nails since early middle school. My Mom was sooo against me wearing acrylic so I would buy a pack of nails and rock them on the weekends. Giiiiirl, you couldn’t tell me nothin‘. Fast forward to high school and college where acrylics rocked my world. I’ve been acrylic free for almost two years but I have to admit…I LOVE the way these nails look.

The mess I made…

Let’s talk about the design…

French nails are so blah to me. I like how the snazzy glitter design jazzes things up a bit. I would probably never regularly wear a design like this simply because it isn’t my style but they don’t look bad!

Each box contains 24 nails in 12 sizes. Because I have such long nail beds, I just knew it would be a struggle trying to find a size that fit me. Buuuut….

I did! There were sizes for all 10 of my fingers. I loved how the length was not THAT much longer than my natural nails. I don’t like my nails looking super long.

The process…

I forgot how much of a mess applying fake nails can be. You really have to take your time. The glue STICKS and it does not budge. Which can be a good thing and a bad thing.

Good because that means the nails will stay on for at least 7-10 days! I kept mine on for 8 days.

Bad because if you make a mistake with the initial application…girl, you’re in trouble.

I love the overall though! Don’t they look like I got them done at a salon?

I think they look good!

Whatcha think?

Would you buy a pack of these?

Polish Pretty,

[EDIT: I forgot to mention the removal process. Uh....don't be like me and rip them off. They need to be soaked in pure acetone. Forcefully removing them results in 3 beat-up nails that will take months to heal. Not that I know from experience or anything. Hehe. I mean, *sobs*---Thanks Brooke!]

Beauty Review: MAC Funtabulous Dazzleglass

I have always had a thing for MAC’s Dazzleglass. I remember when they first came out. I was in LOVE.

But the $18.00 (a year ago they were $16.50!!) price tag just doesn’t sit well with me. I mean really? $18.00..for lip gloss? Not exactly a recession-friendly purchase. I probably would not have made it had it not been for a Nordstrom’s gift card.

I already own two Dazzleglasses (a review of me in Get Rich here) and I absolutely LOVE them. Granted I don’t wear them all the time but I love how they are nice additions in my make-up stash. Every lady needs a little glitter wear for the lips. Especially a bright magenta one!

Let me introduce you to Funtabulous…

….I decided to have a little photo shoot outside. See….inside it looks glitter-tastic and under control.

But when the sun hits it…

Oh.mi.glittery goodness. This color is a work of art! Of course layering it over your favorite lip gloss or lip stick will really make it pop but I don’t mind wearing it solo. Especially on make-up free day.

Oh, wondering why I have the concerned face?

A little black snack decided to pop his head up over the bushes. Earlier, he slithered by my head while I was laying on the grass. He and other creepy crawlers are reasons why I am not so much of a nature girl. *trembles* So much for make-up shots outside. I’m done.

Do you own any Dazzeglasses?

What’s your favorite one, chica?

Mascara Monday: L’Oreal Bare Naturale mascara

Happy happy Monday! And I hope all of the Mothers out there had a wonderful Mother’s Day! I spent mine in Miami Beach visiting my parental Grandmother. Remember when I talked about her here? Oh yes….she is a remarkable woman. As are all of the women in my life. And check out the view from the Eden Roc hotel…

We treated Grandma to a little vacay in her own city and she loved it. As did I! Miami is my original hometown and yet I had never been to Miami Beach. Wow! I most certainly will be back.

Time for another mascara review….

L’Oreal Bare Naturale mascara

Price: 3 out of 5 (I got this for $7.99 at Walgreens)
Packaging (Brush Wand): 3 out of 5
Overall: 4 out of 5

What it claims: “…the first mineral-enriched mascara from L’Oréal’s Bare Naturale. This innovative formula contains 86% natural-origin ingredients, shine-enhancing minerals and is both paraben- and fiber-free. It provides your lashes with flawless volume and length, with a weightless feel that is absolutely clump-free. The brush is made with naturally-based soft bristles that delicately brush through lashes without tugging. Your lashes will look positively flawless and feel fresh and weightless all day long.” (source)

The truth:
Not bad. I mean…for some reasons my expectations were low but this mascara delievered.

What I loved about it: You do get a nice natural look with this mascara. I have always been desirous of crazy volumized lashes but I really like this one.

What I didn’t like: The wand’s bristles weren’t as defined as I like them. Boo.

Overall: I like the idea behind this mascara. At first glance of the word “naturale” you may be like me and assume that the mascara is supposed to give you “natural looking” lashes. No ma’am….the “naturale” comes from what is in–or not in–the mascara. This mineral enriched fragrance-free, paraben-free, fiber-free mascara is formulated with jojoba oil, aloe and Vitamin E. It lacks a great deal of the harsh chemicals that some mascaras tend to have. The fact that its performance is still pretty decent….says a lot!

Now it’s not OMG-totally freakin’ awesome. I would have liked a tad bit more volume and length. But overall, it did a pretty good job. I can see my Mom with a mascara like this. It gives you enough length or volume without going overboard.

Lashes without mascara
(did not curl lashes)

Lashes with 2 coats of mascara

Would I recommend it?: Sure. I’m impressed. And I am quite the advocate for being a little more “green” in the beauty world. This mascara is certainly a better step in the right direction.

FOTD Friday: 90’s Challenge look

I’ve got another challenge entry!

If you’ve been around Clumps of Mascara for quick lil‘ minute, you know that I LOVE doing beauty challenges with my fellow beauty bloggin‘ sisters. I participated in the 80’s challenge, a Politically Pretty challenge, A Women’s History Month challenge and now it’s time to break out and do somethin‘ from the 90’s.

I am SUCH a 90’s baby, yall. Granted I was born in ’85 but I don’t remember anything about the ’80’s. I was a Spice Girl lovin‘, Family Matters’ watchin‘, Giga Pet havin‘ kid of the 90’s. And I am proud! A great deal of my older friend love picking for being so young but hey…I am a 90’s baby…and therefore I am cool.

The end…

My girl Amina over at Coup de Coeur spearheaded this challenge and she requested that we do looks inspired from 90’s girl groups. Dude, I didn’t even know where to begin because I LOVE so many. But I wanted to go with a group whose music I not only loved but thought that their images were somehow similar to mine—or vice versa.

I chose…

Now in case you aren’t familiar with the dynamic harmonization that is Zhané, pronounced Jah-Nay, check out the video.

One of my college girls and I would sit and sing this song over and over. We could have been the next Zhané. Oh y’all didn’t know I could sing? Well uh…I try, I try. Teheheeee.

The ladies of Zhané have beautiful features that are never overdone with make-up. Did you watch the video? They have a bronzed look with brown lips. Their brows are defined with very little action goin’ on in the eye department. I tried to do the same but added my own little POP to it.

EYES:
NARS Albatross highlighter (browbone)
MAC Cocobeach pigment (lid)
Urban Decay 24/7 liner in Zero
L’Oreal Voluminous mascara

FACE:
Cargo Bronzer in Dark

LIPS:
MAC Chestnut lip pencil
Kiss My Face Sheer Organic shine in Topaz

They are earthy ladies and since nature seems to hate me (see why in a post coming soon), I had to use my fake tree to get in on the action.

I am a M-E-S-S. But I had such a good time strollin’ down memory lane and….playing in fake trees.

Rock on, ladies. And may the 90’s live forever!!
