The Makeup Show LA: Background, installment 1

My coverage on The Makeup Show LA is finally is motion. My goal is to give you so much news, show you so many pictures and provide enough video footage that you feel like you were there.
“Wait a minute B…what exactly is The Makeup Show?”

Oh. Good question. Per The Makeup Show LA website:

“The Powder Group and Metropolitan Events are pleased to announce the launch of an event that we have been waiting for two years to become a reality – The Makeup Show LA!

On March 15 and 16, 2009 the makeup industry will come together to celebrate the craft of the professional makeup artist for the first time ever – at the global epicenter of entertainment and glamour – Los Angeles.
Like The Makeup Show NYC and Miami, The Makeup Show LA will be a pro-artist event for everyone in every area of the makeup industry. We’ll deliver the same pro-driven, artistically inspired, celebratory energy of The Makeup Show to the west coast, and bring together your top brands and inspirational artists and educators for two amazing days of community, career and craft building.
It’s the west coast must-attend event for anyone in the business of makeup and beauty.”

What do you have when you throw in some celebrity make-up artists, the world’s top beauty brands, cosmetology students and crazed beauty bloggers?
THIS

THIS

…and a little bit of this.

The Makeup Show is about education, inspiration, creativity, networking and fun. Every attendee had a passion for beauty. From watching celebrity make-up artists in action to ogling over products from your favorite beauty brands, there truly is a certain kind of presence surrounding the people at The Makeup Show. And I felt like I was fitting in perfectly.

There you have it….the background of The Makeup Show. Stay tuned for the next few installments.

Sista Show-Off: Soy Fashionista

Welcome to another post from the Sista Show Off series! In this series I like to show some love to other companies, blogs, businesses, organizations or just regular ladies like myself who are paving the way for women everywhere! Let me feature you! Shoot me an email at Brittany@ClumpsOfMascara.com.

[NOTE]: The majority of this post will be in Spanglish—so brace yourself if you aren’t familiar with reading the Spanish language]

Soy Fashionista!!

Cuándo era una niña, yo hablé mucho español. Muchas personas no comprendieron por qué.

“Brittany,” ellos dirían.

¿”Estas Latina?”

“No,” diría.

“Soy solo una chica Negra que habla Español”.

Whew…that was hard. I can talk in Spanish all day. But writing it es muy dificíl para mi. Oh well….but as you can see, I have a little connection with my Hispanic family. And not just because I can speak a little of the Español but because I recognize the rich culture and heritage surrounding Hispanic ladies…..as is the case with ALL women of different backgrounds.

From SoyFashionista.com
“Soy Fashionista is about sharing and interacting on personal views, style, stories and advice. Become informed, connected, inspired and entertained. Engage in our Social Community developed for Latinas, by Latinas. Soy Vida, Amor, y Orgullo…SOY FASHIONISTA.”

Soy Fashionista is unique because it caters to mis chicas Latinas out there. It is a one stop spot for beauty, fashion, culture, music, and ohhh laaa laaaaa, sexo tambien!

Sandrini, el Presidente de Soy Fashionista works with 8 other Latina ladies to bring members articles from each area. Perhaps you too are a Latina lady with a passion for beauty, fashion, culture or music.

Head on over to SoyFashionista.com and check out the digs. Beautifully impressive, if you ask me.

Pase un buen dia,

Amor de Lacquer: Zoya’s Jacy

Welcome to another post of Amor de Lacquer….the series all about nail polish and nail care! Send me your requests, suggestions and ideas at Brittany@ClumpsOfMascara.com.

I recently received my polishes for the Zoya exchange and of course I love them all! I didn’t think Jacy would impress me as much as she did. On the outside with color looks to a little shimmery plum-ish. “Blah,” I thought to myself. Nothing unique or interesting about that.”

But then I saw how spectacular it looked on the nails! Not bad at all.

FLASH

NO FLASH

As beautiful as this polish is, I am sure there are some dupes out there. Readers, help! Do yall know of any? As with most of my Zoya polishes, this baby only took a good 2 coats and I didn’t have any problems with it. Even though I prefer “out there” colors, I still have an appreciation for the berry nail polishes of the world. I always think they are safe colors but for every now and then….they aren’t so bad.

I would love to hear your thoughts!

I am still preppin’ up for Amor de Lacquer week here at Clumps of Mascara. Look at what I have in store…

Just when you thought purple polishes couldn’t get any better–purple glittery polish!!

Nfu-Oh polishes…so many colors in just one stroke. Not glitter, but flecks? How does it do that?

China Glaze’s Summer Days’ collection makes me want to run through Strawberry fields.

Stay tuned, fam! Please send me all of your requests and suggestions on what you would like to see during Amor de Lacquer week.

Stay beautiful,

The Make-up Show LA: Teaser post with Pics

Guess who’s back?

Uh…not me. I am back in spirit but not quite in place.

Does that make sense?

Let me explain….I have been traveling like a mad woman and am currently suffering from jet lag. Even though I once lived on the West Coast, I have never experienced this because I usually stayed on one coast for longer than 3 days. But since this was a quick trip…ohmigoodness, I am drained beyond belief. It will take me a few days to recover, but I couldn’t completely leave my family hangin’ so here is a quick photo journey of my trip back to Los Angeles for The Makeup Show. Of course I will go into detail about everything.

I had the BEST view from my hotel.

I mean, just check it out from the outside…

I hung out with my girl Stefanie..

And had brunch with my fellow AmeriCorps volunteer and amazing friend Joy…

I fell in love with James Vincent of The Powder Group and had a BALL meeting with my other bloggin’ gals.

Honestly, doesn’t Lori Taylor of Smashbox Cosmetics look so much like my fro girl logo. Glasses and all!

It’s….AJ Crimson! I stopped breathing when I first met him.

And I purchased my first foundation.

I have so many other things to tell you, family…

Like:

-How amazing celebrity make-up artist Billy B. is
-Make-up must haves
-Spring ’09 trends
-How I took to the wrong bus heading from the Beverly Center
-How I broke down and had fried chicken for the first time in a long time at Roscoe’s Chicken & Waffles.

Oh yes, yall….I could go on and on. Stay tuned! Thank you for your patience. I shall return soon.

Always,

Amor de Lacquer: Tracey Reese for Sally Hansen, Spring ’09

Welcome to another post of Amor de Lacquer….the series all about nail polish and nail care! Send me your requests, suggestions and ideas to Brittany@ClumpsOfMascara.com. I really wanted to save this post for the week of Amor de Lacquer but I just couldn’t help it!

Zoya’s Spring collection, Twist, may need to scoot over and share positions as my favorite Spring ’09 nail polish collection. Tracey Reese for Sally Hansen Spring 2009 is sick! I have no words for the beauty of this collection. There is a little something for everyone. For the conservative nail polish wearer and for the lady who doesn’t mind rockin’ crazy colors.

First up, my favorite in the collection….

Night Hydrangea

Well of course it’s going to be my favorite. It’s purple. As I’ve mentioned before…every nail polish addict has a color preference and mine will always be purple. This may be the BEST purple I have ever seen. Seriously. And look how beautifully it photographs. I don’t have any color even close to this so I just love it!

Honeydrew

Ohh, pretty. I actually wore this color a weekend or so back and didn’t even want to take it off for work. It is such a fun color. I can’t wait to rock it on my toes.

Nasturtium

Try pronouncing the name of that bad boy. I love this color! My swatch is a little unclear. I’m not sure why I had so many issues photographing it but don’t let my picture quality discourage you from snagging this one. If this doesn’t scream “perfect summer pedi color”, I don’t know what does.

Forsythia

What’s with the names of this collection, SH? Maybe there is some hidden meaning that I don’t know about. I LOVE this color. I have a thing for yellow polishes. Maybe it’s because they are unexpected. And since I LOVE being the exception to any rule, I just adore this one. Brown skinned babes, you better not utter, “But I can’t wear…” Yes, you can. Didn’t President Obama teach you anything? Okay, I’m lame. Moving on….

Tassel

I don’t like gold polishes. There, I said it. I don’t like their foil finishes. I don’t like how they look against my brown skin. Zoya’s Richelle is almost okay with me but for the most part I don’t like golds. BUT…..if I did, I would love Tassel.

I used only 2 coats for each color and each one applied beautifully–as all of my Sally Hansen polishes do. These babies don’t come out until later this month and when they are released, you better run like a mad woman or man because it is hard as Hades trying to find Sally Hansen’s newest nail polish releases. Of course they are at drugstores and will run you a good $6-$8.

See any must haves? Tell me!

Your fellow nail polish junkie,

[EDIT: Thanks Ma’at for letting me know that most of these polishes are named after flowering plants!]
