My Dove Hair Update + Get FREE samples!

So remember that time I reviewed Dove’s Daily Moisture Shampoo and Conditioner and I talked about how awesome they were? Welllll I’m back with a mini-update of how the products have been doing on my hurr.

Dove Shampoo and Conditioner

This Glam sponsored-post gave me the opportunity to dive back into Dove products and it has been my first time dancin’ with their hair care products since I’ve been rockin’ the short do. The weather is getting cooler (yay?) and that coupled with my hair growing at the speed of light is bringing about some crazy thangs. For one thing, my hair is already getting drier! How is that even possible? The good news is, I’ve been getting extra moisturization thanks to the Dove Condish. I don’t wash my hair daily but when I do, I slather that stuff all over, wait for it to do its magic and yeahhhhh.

I took this picture some weeks ago and posted it to Instagram under the #DoveGreatHairDay hashtag. And you better believe that if I had hurr I’d be flippin’ it right about now.

That’s me and my girl Courtney from Phyrra.net out to dinner.

A Month of Thanks 2013: Day 5 – That feeling I get when I run.

Run B Run

I’m not an athlete. Far from it. I didn’t really get into an active lifestyle until college. And it was post-college where I met running. I’m not the running “type”. I’m an amazon woman with big boobage and I don’t fit the running model. But honey, I love to run. I am so thankful for it. When I run I’m not thinking of the calories that I’m burning. I have no stresses. I just run. I don’t care about speed. I have my own mini goals and try to reach them. I feel like an Olympian at the end of a run. My body feels wrecked but mentally I am on a high. I love that feeling. I love how strong I feel.

Wish me luck! I’m running (will probably be doing a great mix of walk-jog but whatever…) a 5K next week!

What’s The Deal With Mario Badescu’s Peptide Renewal Products?

I’ve been on a serious skincare kick lately. Sometimes I really wish I could go to beauty school and get become a licensed esthetician. But dude, I’m not paying for any more schooling. I’ll be paying off my B.A. by the time Baby Clumps is in college. Ha!

Mario Badescu

A few months ago I got a sample of Mario Badescu’s newest skincare products and they both had me swooning. And I’m not sure why because I don’t even know what a peptide is. Hey! Don’t judge. I’m a writer. Not a chemistry whizz. Both the Peptide Renewal Cream and the Peptide Renewal Serum are aimed at fighting wrinkles, tightening and adding moisture to the skin. Cooler weather is just around the corner so I’m thinking this is about the right time to start usin’ these babies.

Mario Badescu Peptide

The Peptide Renewal Serum ($45) contains white willow bark, green tea and the ever so soothing chamomile. It feels absolutely divine and refreshing. And sometimes refreshing is what you need at the end of the day. I like using the serum first thing in the morning and at night but it is especially a treat at night. Texture-wise the serum doesn’t feel hydrating or greasy. It provided a bit of tackiness to my skin after application but man, it feels good.

Mario Badescu Peptie Serum

Awesome Ingdredients it includes:

•Palmitoyl Oligopeptide-7: Wrinkle fighting and lifting
•Nori (Algae) Extract: Firming
•Palmitoyl Oligopeptide: Wrinkle fighting and lifting
•White Willow Bark: Skin clearing
•Sorghum Bicolor Stalk Juice: Tightens and smoothes
•Green Tea: Powerful antioxidant
•Hyaluronic Acid: Improves moisture levels
•Chamomile: Soothes
•Yarrow: Healing and calming

Mario Badescu serum

The Peptide Renewal Cream ($35) is decadent and lightweight and contains nori extract. Call it overload but I actually like using this over the serum. Mario Badescu says it’ll improve my moisture levels and I totally agree because my chronically dry skin feels like hydrated and smooth.

MB Peptide Cream

Of course, both of these fragrance-free products have to be used for quite some time before you’ll notice any dramatic differences. And I’m okay with using these until I’ve used ‘em all up. Mario Badescu has always done well by me and I think the Peptide Renewal line is the perfect addition to the MB fam.

Now ‘scuse me while I go drool at other cool stuff on the site.

A Month of Thanks 2013: Day 4 – Esposo’s Cooking

Quinoa Tabbouleh

I really don’t know what I was eating before I met Esposo. Clearly I was eating somethin’ because I’m not exactly a skinny girl. I know how to cook but I don’t like cooking. I just don’t. But I am so thankful for my wonderful husband because in the almost 2 years we’ve been married and the 1 year we dated, I have never had to prepare a meal. He cooks everything at home. And he serves me.

Yeah, I got it maaaaade.

Mascara Monday: ELLIS FAAS mascara

Every now and then I run into a beauty brand that I’ve never heard of. It doesn’t happen often but when it does, I get embarrassed about it.

“How have you never heard of ELLIS FAAS, B?”

“I don’t know. I just haven’t…..”

I mean, yeah…I live under a rock but when you’ve been beauty blogging, er’body expects you know er’thing. So shoot me! I haven’t heard of ELLIS FAAS and didn’t until I got a sample of this mascara in my Makeup Show Orlando Blogger Preview bag. And whoooooa…

ELLIS VAAS mascaraI dun seen the light.

ELLIS VAAS

Price: $34 from Sephora and Sephora.com.
Packaging (brush wand): 5 out of 5
Overall: 5 out of 5

What It Claims: “A creamy mascara that perfectly coats, lengthens and separates each individual lash.” (source)

The Truth: I love this mascara!!

What I Loved About It: What an incredible wand! And the formula is just beautiiiiful!

What I Didn’t Like: Well, the price is pretty up there but hey, in some cases you get what you pay for. And this mascara is amazing!

Overall: I never got around to really exploring the ELLIS FAAS booth at The Makeup Show Orlando 2013 but I walked past it a few times. I am now kicking myself in the butt for it because if their mascara is this great, I can only imagine what everything else is like. I’m a drugstore lover at heart but sometimes higher end mascaras have a really different (and sometimes better) feel. This mascara just feels luxurious. And I love how simple and uncomplicated the wand is.

ELLIS VAAS mascara wand

I’m starting to prefer the traditional mascara brushes over the plastic wands but when it comes to brushes, I don’t want them huge. This wand is perfect. It is small enough to get in those inner corners but it is large enough to coat each and every lash. I’m thinking those with smaller lids and lashes won’t have any problem with getting this mascara to really coat all of those lashes. The long handle makes it easy to really get into those lashes.

And while I really love the wand my favorite aspect about it is the wonderful formula. This non-clumping, gel-like formula of love is so easy to apply to the lashes. I found that it was also buildable so whether you wanted just 1 coat or 10 coats, chances are you won’t run into any clumps. It isn’t exactly water-resistant so I’m not sure if I would wear this if I knew I was going to the beach but for day-to-day indoor use…it’s fantastic!

I also found the mascara to be very lightweight. I applied 3 coats and still didn’t feel any heaviness to my lashes. Wow.

Do I recommend it?: If you’ve got the pennies to spare, I think you’ll love this mascara. It’s just such a pleasure to use.

Am I the only loser who hasn’t heard of ELLIS FAAS? Please tell me I’m not the only one! The good news is, I’ve found an amazing mascara and I can’t wait to check out what other gorgeous thangs the brand has.

A Month of Thanks 2013: Day 3 – Dairy Alternatives

I didn’t give up dairy because I’m a vegan. I gave it up because dairy killlllls my stomach. I am of the belief that it is kind of weird that we consume something that was never intended for our bodies and even still, I will never deny the awesomeness that is cheese. Or ice cream. I don’t eat either and I’m still surviving thanks to almond, coconut, hemp and cashew milk.

Coconut milk

I am so so thankful for these suitable alternatives that give me the chance to enjoy my favorite foods without being doubled over in pain.

But er uh…for the record, I’ve tried so many brands and there really isn’t a good substitute for cheese. Like, no. Just…no.

A Month of Thanks 2013 Day 2 – Short hurr

Short natural hair

Yeeeeep. I am very very thankful for short hair. Just a month after I had Elle, I cut off my long locs. I expected to miss them and mourn over them but I haven’t yet. Because I am that in love with short natural hair. I’ve cut my hair many times but it has never been this short and I’m still trying to figure out what took me this long to jump on the short hurr bandwagon.

And I’d stay on that bandwagon if I could find someone to maintain my hair cut. That’s the part about short hair people don’t tell you. You have to find a good stylist or barber to maintain the look and the guy that gave me this fierce cut is now gone in the wind. And every other barber after him weren’t nearly as good. Including Esposo, who I asked to give me a hair cut.

And so I’m growing my hair out again because I’m not the type to be so heavily dependent on others to do my hair. But I will never forget the awesomeness that is short hair. And the confidence that it gave me.
