Site business & Neo Sci-Fi

Hi pretty people…my internet at home has been trippin’ like mad but I’m back and in action. Excuse the delay in responding to your emails. I know, I know…missed another Mascara Monday. But no worries. I’ve taken all of your suggestions and have some fab reviews coming up in the next few weeks.

  • Also, my reviews of those Costal Scents brushes AND a great skincare line are also in the works.

  • Aaaand…if you are like me and love perfumes but ain’t tryna break ya pocket on $50+ a bottle, I have the perfect solution for you. That will be in the next Let It Clump Series.

  • Aaaand, thanks to all of you sendin’ your love, pictures and quotes for the Brown & Blushin’ series. I am so excited because yall are so excited. A post will be coming soon .

  • And last but not least…Clumps of Mascara will be celebrating its (is my blog a male or female? Anyone know?) first anniversary next month and in honor of that, I will be unveiling a completely new look for the site. It’s going to be amaziiiing! Are yall ready? You should be because there will also be some giveaways! Heyyyy!!!

*sigh* Okayyy, got all of that news out of the way. Back to beauty…since I’m on make-up probation until June, I really couldn’t get excited about…

But I did. I still wanted to max out my credit card, deplete my savings and run to the nearest MAC store. But I didn’t. I was a good girl. Yall should be proud.

So to reward myself, I picked up a few Neo Sci Fi goodies. —but wait, I didn’t actually spend money. I returned a liner I didn’t like and utilized B2M. So, seeee….no money was spent. Now if that ain’t beauty hustlin’, I don’t know what is.

Check out Sci-Fi-Delity…..it is a frost described as burnt red with gold pearl. I had to snag it simply because I don’t have a color like this.

Ohhh, I should add that my make-up artist added Money Honey Dazzleglass on top. I thought it was a bit too much “dazzle” but she loved it.

Me realizing that I actually went to MAC, got 2 products and didn’t spend a dime.

Me realizing that traffic in Orlando during lunch hour really don’t make no sense.

* a mess*
And most of you are aware of my newest obsession with nail polishes. I already knew I was getting that Phosphor. It is going to be perfect on the toes….when my Shocking Pink starts a crackin’…on goes the bumble bee yellow!

Still not done with Neo Sci-Fi. When my probation is up, I’m thinking about snagging Pink Grapefruit lipglass and swatching Electro (you know..that orange lipstick). The packaging for this collection is my favorite. I don’t have a favorite color, but if I did….it would probably be orange (or urnge like us folx in the South say). This collection is kickin’!

What did you ladies snag and like? Disappointed? Obsessed? Let ya Head Newb know!

Let It Clump Series: China Glaze polishes

Time for a Let It Clump post! This series where we stop talking about make-up to explore other areas of beauty and beyond. That’s anything! Nails, hair, fashion, jacked up love lives..anything! Any suggestions? Let me know at Brittany@ClumpsOfMascara.com.

Today’s Let It Clump post is about….yesss, nail polishes again. I am finding that China Glaze polishes are seriously my favorite brand. Their colors are vibrant, long lasting and relatively affordable. I can snag them at Sally’s or the beauty supply store for about $3.99 a bottle. And on good weeks, I can buy 2 get 1 for free. Most of the colors I am featuring are colors that I wear on my toes….but I can’t stress how beautiful colors look on brown skin. The first few are from the China Glaze WOW collection.

And I guess I don’t have to tell yall how jacked up my application is…hehe, it’s okay though. I do a better job when I’m applying for real.

Shocking Pink

In The Lime Light

Purple Panic

Frostbite

Turned Up Turquoise

….these are colors that I randomly snagged from beauty supply store.

Coconut Kiss

Yellow Power

That yellow polish is craziness on the toes. I absolutely love it.

My next grab?

MAC’s Phosphor from the Neo Sci-Fi collection. It is such a beautiful color. A bit much for some nail polish, but I’m thinkin’ it’s worth it. I’m on make-up probation until June so I’m just swooning until then.

What’s your take on crazy colors? A french mani girl? A simple and sweet diva? Or are you wild and crazy with colors like me?

Enjoy your long weekends, dolls! I know I will!

Beauty Review: DentaBurst Freshening Teeth Cleaners

Do I have a treat for you, lovely ladies. I had the opportunity to review this product. And when I tell you it’s amazing….you have to believe me. If you are like me and particularly anal about how your breath smells, I have the perfect solution for you. And I’m talking a solution that is better than short-lasting mints and gum. Lo’ and behold….DentaBurst; which proves to be more than a product; it’s a lifestyle. Dig the ads…

Picture this….you’re going out with a gentleman that you have been eyein’ for quite a minute. You bat your mascara coated lashes at him. You do that girly giggle by covering your mouth with your freshly painted nails. You smile big with your Port Red lips and catch a glimpse of your grin in your champagne glass. *key horror movie tune* Girlfriend, your grill is not lookin’ hot right now. Asparagus stuck between your teeth is not a good look. And chances are your breath isn’t up to par from that grilled tofu and pasta mix (ahem, def not for everyone but trust me, it’s good). DentaBurst, gals…saaaves the day. A swipe of the finger brush on your teeth (I even do my tongue) and you have not only fresh breath but a better attitude. I don’t care how beautiful your make-up is, sweets, if your breath is kickin’….none of that matters. So here’s my photo shoot with the wonderfulness that is DentaBurst… Click on the pictures to see my silliness on a larger scale. DentaBurst comes in a nice little slim package. The “clumps” that is in me has the dern thing upside down. I’m a mess yall.

You simply slip it on your finger…
And swipe it on your teefs…

And if you want added freshness, be silly like me hit the molars…

Yeah, I know. I really didn’t need to make the face but it wouldn’t be “me” if I didn’t. I can’t explain the BURST (no pun intended) of freshness you get with this thing. It is absolutely great. And long lasting. It really feels like I brushed my teeth. But don’t be like my little sister who tried to use DentaBurst in lieu of a toothbrush. You stilllll have to brush your teeth. But it is wonderful. Find out more about DentaBurst at their website:

  • DentaBurst
  • Be Ready Lounge-check out this online community featured by DentaBurst for the young professional women on the go. That’s me! I’ve joined and I’m lovin’ all of the fab features. Be a doll and check it out.

You too can cop you a pack of DentaBurst at your local Walgreens, CVS, Target and Rite-Aid. For only $2.99, you can get a pack of 12. What are you waitin’ on, beauty booties? Go cop you some today. DentaBurst smoochies!

Brown and Blushin’ Series: Types of Blushes

[NOTE] I’m workin’ on some HTML/CSS so the page may be lookin’ funky for a day or two. Excuse the messs.
Welcome to another post of the Brown & Blushin’ series. I am excited to see many of you involved in sending me your pictures, requests and proclaiming your love for all things blush! Remember, you can send me pictures of you wearing your favorite blush at Brittany@ClumpsOfMascara.com. If your blog has posts about blush for women of color and you’d like me to link you, I am more than willing to do so. Hit me up!

This post is about the different types of blushes out on the market. I know you didn’t think that powder was the only kind. Come on, girlfriend…get with the program. But since you are so in hip with the powder blush, I guess we’ll start there.

The most traditional form of blush, powder, is great for for all skin types, but especially oily/combination skin.

Plus, it’s the most dense of all blushes which means it will give you long lasting color. I absolutely adore powder blushes (well shoot, it’s the only kind of blush I’ve ever used) because I find that if you apply too much, you can always “take a step back”. How? By dusting a bit of translucent face powder or bronzer on your cheeks. But we’re getting ahead of ourselves.

My favorite powder blush? NARS Cosmetics make the BEST blushes ever. But for a beauty on a budget, I recommend Milani.

Gel Blushes

Ohh la laaa….I am swooning over Tarte’s Cheekstains. How beautiful are they? They have won awards as “the best blush” from Cosmo, InStyle and Self magazines. I hear that the color payoff is intense and long lasting and get this….many of them are water resistant. Now that’s hot for Floridian beauties who like to jump in a pool at a moment’s notice. And since the cheekstains are oil-free, you don’t have to worry about getting that oily face look. That also means that they won’t be clogging your pores. Definitely adding this to my long list of “beauty products to cop”.

Cream Blushes

One of the products that I was always afraid to try when I first got into MAC Cosmetics was their cream blushes. Now that I have this slight obsession with blushes, in general, I think that I may give them a try sooner rather than later. Cream blushes usually offer more color than powder blushes but since the color pay off is so rich, it takes a bit more effort to blend in. The great thing about cream blushes is that they are ideal for those of us with drier skin. They are a bit more emollient and therefore provide more moisture than powder blushes. This would be perfect for the winter months. I don’t wear foundation but if I did, I would imagine that a cream blush would be absolutely divine for a nice evening look.

Bronzers

Let’s have a moment of silence for the fabulousness that is bronzers. If you’ve been a reader of Clumps of Mascara for awhile, you know how much I Iove Bobbi Brown’s Shimmerbricks. When I tell you this product is love at first swipe (to be taken literally), I’m not even playin’. Bronzers look absolutely beautiful on brown skin. It gives us a nice and natural glow. On days when I want to feel pretty without much effort, I swipe bronzer on the cheeks. Instant glow!!

This site will also give you more information about other types of blushes. It is a great resource for newbies. My girl Erin from The MAC Fetish (and ScandalousBeatyOnline.com) has a post here where she shows us that you can wear eye shadows as blush. I’ve also heard that you can swipe lipsticks on your cheeks for added color too. Who would have thoooought? Yall know I’m going to be trying that out.

And for this post’s Brown & Blushin’ Beauty, my lovely author, PBW from Forty is the New 20 shows us her beautiful FOTD with her wearing Dior Sunset Fiesta blush.

Lookin’ gorgeous, uh? Love it! Send me yours at Brittany@ClumpsOfMascara.com. Stay tuned for more posts from the Brown & Blushin’ series. Smooches!

Clinique’s Lash Power Mascara Review

Happy Monday, beauties! I hope everyone had a fabulous weekend. It’s another Mascara Monday. You all know by now the purpose of Mascara Mondays. To fiiiind….

THE BEST MASCARA EVER

(echoes)

(echoes)

Yessss, it is that serious. This time around I reviewed Clinique’s Lash Power Mascara. Was it as powerful as it proclaimed to be?

You ready to find out?

Price: 3 out of 5 ($14)
Packaging (Brush Wand): 5 out of 5
Overall: 4 out of 5

What it claims: “Vows to look pretty for 24 hours without a smudge or smear. One stroke and these pretty lashes last through rain, sweat, humidity, tears. Yet the formula removes easily with warm water. Unique brush reaches and beautifully lengthens even the tiniest lashes. Ophthalmologist tested, too.

The truth: Well….it ain’t lyin’.

What I loved about it: Ummm, okay, so it really does last! I’m impressed. It was a bit flaky, so I’m thinkin’ I shouldn’t put it on so heavy. And I absolutely adore the brush. This is my ideal mascara brush. It is thin to where it can get alll of my lashes, top and bottom.

What I didn’t like: Well, it doesn’t provide volume or much length, but it looks great when applied on top of my current HG mascara.

Overall: This is one mascara that actually does what it says it is going to do. I was a bit disappointed that it didn’t give me sooooome volume. But then again, it didn’t say that it would. I got minimal curl but not enough to make me want to wear it by itself. Somehow I’ve developed allergies at the age of 23 (crazy, uh?) and this mascara was able to withstand the constant eye rub. But it really does stand strong all day and comes off easily with warm water. Fab! So if you are the type of lady that runs around all day and needs something that can keep up with you…this is right up your alley.

What do you think about this mascara? And help your girl out…what other mascaras should I review? I’m open to reviewing drugstore and high-end brands. Send your requests to Brittany@ClumpsOfMascara.com.

FOTD Friday: A Fun Look

Hi gorgeous folx!

I got an email from a lovely reader saying that I don’t do many FOTDs anymore and haven’t done a bold look in a very long time. Haven’t really dove in that FOTD Friday series much, uh?

Yeeep, she’s right. I actually don’t dab into make-up that much these days. I know, I know, tragedy…but I’m not really down to wearin’ a ton of stuff. But she inspired me to do a blue/green look. So I pulled out some bright make-up and sat down to watch my show.

Hands down my favorite show ever. Got all 4 seasons on DVD and would rather watch this every day than the stuff on regular cable. Anywho….got to gigglin’ with Martin and came up with this craziness.

I purposely didn’t blend the colors together. I wanted each one to be stark and be bold on its own. If that really makes any sense.

I even did a Tina Turner hair look. HA!

Yes yall….I am a mess.

Here’s what I used:

FACE:
Not a thing

EYES (colors):
Bamboo Paint
Yellow Sunshine e/s
Wondergrass e/s
Eyepopping e/s
Submarine e/s
Thunder e/s

Lips:
Some really pretty Holiday Lustreglass.

….nothin’ to brag about but I can dig it. It was fun to play around in eye make-up again. Happy Friiiiiiday!

Brown and Blushin’ Series: Brushes

Welcome to the first official post from the Brown & Blushin’ series. The series will highlight questions and pictures for the “new” blush applier. I also hope to dispel the myth that warmer tones can not wear blush. Oh yes, honey…when applied right, we can wear anything from bronzers to hot pink and bright orange blushes.

“Bright orange?”

Hmm mmmm….stay tuned to see exactly what I mean.

Today’s post will be about brushes; one of the most important elements of brush application. I, personally don’t think there is a typical “blush brush”. Different brushes, however, give you different outcomes. The brushes that I will be highlighting today come from the same family but have very little relation to each other.

Say hello to MAC’s 129, 184 and 182

I didn’t mind savin’ up for these brushes. They are worth it beyond belief.

–MAC 129 ($34)–

Why I love this brush: It is amazingly soft and is perfect for applying blush on the cheeks. I use this when I want color concentration on the apples of the cheeks.

–MAC 187 ($42)–
Why I love this brush: This was my first MAC face brush and holds a special place in my heart. The 187 is perfect for stipling my tinted moisturizer but I found it has other majestic uses when applying blush. It is perfect for lightly applying bronzers and taking color all the way up to the hairline….without being “too” much.

–MAC 182 ($45)–

Why I love this brush: My baby buki….I love this precious little brush. It picks up a lot of color and great for contouring. Contouring? Yep….the kabuki brush turns into a contouring brush with just a squeeze.

What are your favorite brushes for blush application?

Ohhh, and check this:

I thought it would be fun to feature some of my beautiful readers wearing their favorite blushes. Don’t be shyyyy. If I can post my clumpy mascara, you can show me your blushin’ cheeks. Send your pictures to me at Brittany@ClumpsOfMascara.com. Be sure to send a clear picture and list the products you used.

DiorShow Blackout Review

Hi lovely folx! I hope everyone had a wonderful Mother’s Day! I don’t have many friends that are Mommys yet but I did drive 302 hours to see my Mommy. We had a beautiful time! Mothers are truly blessings, right? Welllll…..it’s time for another edition of Mascara Monday.

Yesss, Mascara Monday is where we review a new mascara in attempts to find THE BEST MASCARA EVER!

I am finally reviewing the HG of all mascaras! I was sooo excited when I purchased this. My debit card was was stingin’ from the swipe of $24 plus some tax but I was just bubbling from excitement. Did this “raved about by tons of beauty people everywhere” mascara impress me? You ready to find out?

Christian Dior: Diorshow Blackout

Price: 1 out of 5
Packaging (Brush Wand): 2 out of 5
Overall:
2 out of 5

What it claims:Creates the longest, thickest, curviest lashes ever, resulting in an ultra-glam “just-off-the-catwalk” look.”

The truth: The brush isn’t the best brush ever and it is far too clumpy to be effective.

What I loved about it: My lashes were thicker but by the third coat, they were too clumpy.

What I didn’t like: It didn’t give me any volume. I would have liked a little.

Overall: I hate to admit it, but I’m disappointed. I didn’t get any WoW factor from this mascara. Not in the least. Which is really sad because $24 is entirely too much (I think) to spend on a mascara. I even tried layering it on top of my favorite mascara. Nope, still nothing. No dramatic lashes. The brush wasn’t all that special . And after using it for a few days, I noticed the consistency of the mascara getting a little “glooby”. Yuck, definitely not digging that. Booo….this happens sometimes in the beauty world. What some of us love, others of us loathe. Remember the pink & green Great Lash mascara? I adore it whereas I know a ton of ladies that can’t get down with it. I’m on the nay side of Diorshow right now. It’s taking up space in my mascara department but since it cost me some gas money, it’s going to have to sit there for awhile and look pretty because it certainly won’t be getting used.

What do you think about this mascara? Have you tried it and liked it? Or
