Beauty Bee-haviors: How many mascaras do you have?

Welcome to another post from the Beauty Bee-haviors series. In this series we have open discussions about any and everything in the beauty world.
How many mascaras do you have?

Do you stick with one or are you constantly buying more?
Yall know that I am a mascara reviewer but I only have about 4 mascaras. Seriously! That’s it!
What do I do with the ones I review?

No, I don’t save my receipt and return them all. That could have probably worked once or twice but I have reviewed over 40 mascaras so how would that look? HA! I usually trash them. Some are given to me but most of them I purchase. In the future I think I will use disposable wands as I test mascaras. That way if I don’t like them I can give them to friends and family.

But enough about me. What about you?

Beauty Review: EcoTools brushes

Hi darlings!

I am already getting ready to pack my cosmetic bag for my trip to L.A. next week. Yes, I am excited and glad that I finally have travel size cosmetic brushes. I had the opportunity to test drive EcoTools earth-friendly brushes.

Honestly, I have nothing but good things to say about these brushes. I don’t have ONE bad thing to say about them.

-Earth friendly
-Great quality
-Um, did I mention affordable?!

I mean, check out how many products you can get for a little under $30.

Ching ching! Not bad considering some brushes cost $30 alone.

I have already packed my 5 piece travel brush set. How darling are the bamboo handles?

Okay, I only have four sitting here but when I tell you these brushes are incredibly soft, I’m not lying! I have been using the blending brush religiously. Not bad for only $9…for all 5 brushes, I mean.

And then there’s my favorite product out of the bunch, the darling kabuki brush.

Made with recycled aluminum, this retractable kabuki brush retails at $7.99. Ohmigooodness, the bristles are so soft. Even softer than my MAC 182 brush retailed at $45. No exaggeration here, kids. This brush is PERFECT for powder and blush application. And honestly….on days that I don’t wear anything on my face, sometimes I just run this brush on my face because it just feels so good against my skin.

And then there are the cute bamboo mini brushes, powder puffs and sponges. All ranging between $1.99-$3.99 I have these packed in my cosmetic bag too.

I am so impressed with EcoTools, the company and the products. You can snag these babies at any drugstore. I have already hauled some other goodies from EcoTools. I am truly a fan.

Have you ever tried anything from EcoTools?

Stay beautiful….and green,

Beauty Bubble: 13 Worst Mascaras

Check out this article from Do any of your worst or BEST end up on this list?

I am shocked to see Maybelline Lash Stiletto on the list. That was a dynamite mascara! And can you believe it? Of those 13 mascaras Maybelline Lash Stiletto was the only one that have reviewed. I am certainly thinking twice about reviewing the others.

What do you think? What is the WORST mascara to date?
The 13 Worst Mascaras

Did a Maybelline, CoverGirl or Revlon mascara top the list? Read on to find out!

It’s official — we’re obsessed with mascara. So we were bummed to find out that the ones on this list gave our readers lack-luster lashes (try saying that three times fast). See which ones you should steer clear of — unless you want flaky raccoon eyes?!

Mascara Monday: Maybelline Sky High Curves mascara

Rise and shine, cupcakes! It is another Monday. *insert groan audio clip here* How was everyone’s weekends? I went to an event and met up with some of my family members. Which is a big deal because my family has always been so spread out. Even my immediate family. My youngest sister and I just happened to both be wearing green. Ain’t that somethin’?

She’s a mess like her big sister. I also enjoyed the 80 degree weather here in Orlando, Florida. 5 degrees warmer and I will literally be running to the beach!

And I finally saw Slumdog Millionaire. Probably the best movie I have seen all year. I’ve had the soundtrack for awhile so it’s good to put a sound with….the movie.

Now for the mascara review….did this mascara really give me sky high curves? Or is just an exaggerated claim?

Maybelline Sky High Curves mascara

Price: 5 out of 5 (around $6. I got it as a BOGO buy from Walgreens )
Packaging (Brush Wand): 5 out of 5
Overall: 5 out of 5
What it claims: “Captures each lash. Lengthens to the extreme. Sets daring curves beyond your natural lash. No clumps, no globs.(per packaging)

The truth:
I love it. Definitely an amazing mascara that gives me super long lashes!

What I loved about it:
The length…it’s pretty impeccable, yall!

What I didn’t like:
It was a little clump-a-licious but nothing that I couldn’t handle.

Overall: Often times we are so used to only looking at mascaras that are “new”. You know….the ones with commercials and pop up in magazines. But what about the veterans mascaras. The ones that came out a year or two ago. I decided to give Maybelline’s Sky High Curves mascara a whirl and lemme tell yall….I’m glad I did. This mascara is GREAT! I think it is absolutely phenomenal. I purchased this tube about 2 weeks ago and I am STILL wearing it religiously. Normally I am volume-seeker. I love thick lush lashes over length. But I managed to fall in love with a mascara that wasn’t so volume-enriched.

The wand is pretty decent. It almost looks like Maybelline Lash Stiletto. Almost.

If you seek length and curl…this mascara is IT! Yes, I said it. It even provides a bit of curl. Amazing to say the least.

I did notice that by the third coat it was a little clumpy-wumpy but that’s to be expected. And it wasn’t “insanely clumpy”. More like “Oh wow, your lashes look amazing and I’m looking past those clumps because….your lashes look so amazing.” Kinda like that.

And is it just me or do my lashes really look like they are reaching for the sky? LOL, I bet about 3 of yall laughed at that one.

Lashes without mascara
(did not curl lashes)

Lashes with 3 coats of mascara

LOL @ that eyelash that just won’t curl. It is seriously standing straight up. I kinda like it though. It’s funny lookin’ but it doesn’t bother me.

Would I recommend it?: Absolutely. It really is a great mascara. It’s affordable and can be found anywhere.

A loyal fan of this mascara? Never heard of it? Want it? Need it? Could care less. Tell me!!

Enjoy your Monday, family!

FOTD Friday: Minus the FOTD

Happy Friday, family!

Don’t hate me but I don’t have a FOTD (face of the day). I know, I know….2 weeks in a row. My skin is still attacking me like crazy. I will make up for it next week, I promise. And maybe with another giveaway too?

Hmm…what do yall think?

I thought I would do a “end of the week” questionnaire (sent to me by Lauren. Thanks mama!).

I am going to fill it out and then….you fill it out. Or comment on whatever silliness you read from mine. Whatever works. Ready?

Here we go!

The best thing about this week: Realizing that I am closer to my weight loss goal.
The worst thing about this week: Not managing my time after work.
Next week I am going to finalize my itinerary for my trip to LA.
This weekend I am going to do A LOT of blog/business work.
I really miss the days when I used to sleep in.
I can’t wait to go back to Cali.
The best purchase this week: Orly’s Confetti nail polish. Beautiful!
I love the Clumps of Mascara family and working out.
I can’t stand not getting enough sleep.
I am glad that it’s the weekend!

That is all! You should do the poll too. But if you’re too lazy, how about watchin’ a video? This should have posted with Eyeliner 102: Applying eyeliner to the waterline post but YouTube was apparently on drugs that day and I had some difficulties posting.

But here it is!

And a reader brought up a good point…you should ALWAYS check to see if the pencils you are using on your waterline are indeed eye safe. Thank you for bringing that up, reader.

Anybody doing anything exciting this weekend? Getting married? Having a baby? Moving in a new house? Shoot…something. Let me live through you! Well..not the having the baby part. I’m not quite ready for that. HA!

Have a great weekend!!!

Stay beautiful,

Honey Pot: Garfield Announces contest winners….

I would just like to say that…Clumps of Mascara readers are wonderful! I know, yall already knew that but the entries from this past contest were hilarious! I read each and every one of them (I mean, I have to…they come to my Blackberry, lol). I thought I had a crazy childhood but some of you all take the cake! I wasn’t even going to try to pick the WINNER from this one.

So I asked Mama Clumps to choose the funniest childhood story and she couldn’t choose just one either. Sooo, we have four! I’m not sure what the other gifts will be but I’m sure good ole’ Garfield will think of something.

And now….our winners!

First Place!

The only pet my mother would let my sister and I have were gerbils. Being girls, we would pick them up by their tails because we were afraid they’d bite us. One day, I remember my 8 year old sister picking up one of the gerbils and she said “hey look!” and started swinging him by his tail. The next thing I knew, the gerbil was across the room and my little sister is holding the tail in her hand. We freaked and thought we killed the gerbil. We took him in the bathroom and patched his “stub” and Stubby, as he was then known, lived longer than any of our other gerbils (poor thing).

My sister is 35 years old now, we still talk about this story and laugh.

First Runner Up!
The Asian Girl

When I was about 4 years old, I had an irrational fear of the backs of puzzle pieces. You know, the empty cardboard space on the back? …Yeah. My sister (younger by 20 months) realized this weakness and decided to exploit it by scattering puzzle pieces (back-side up, of course) on the staircase to keep me away.

Second Runner Up!

I remember when I was in my sewing mode (oh I was a fancy four year old thank you very much) and I decided to dress my Barbie and Arbies (you know the ones from the dollar store – their poor legs are squeezable because they’re hollow?). So the only dilemma was that I didn’t have fabric, and little miss yaya (really – I was 4) couldn’t go to Mood in NY, so she went to the living room and cut up some fabric for free (talk about freebies). Made a whole curtain for the dolls to change behind and get dressed. Even my momma liked it and said it was mighty pretty. Then she went into the living room and saw the missing holes in the curtains. Now THAT sight? No no it was NOT pretty. I caught a beating so hard I thought it’d last forever… (it didn’t so don’t go running to call ACS!)

Third Runner Up!
ooooooh I miss the ice cream truck! When I was little my mom never gave me change when the ice cream truck came. He would ring and ring and ring that bell and I wanted nothing more than to chase the truck and get some goodies! Well, one summer my favorite aunt let me come stay with her in New Jersey on the army base. They had this wonderful playground in the back. When I got there my cousin yelled when the ice cream truck came ringing and so did I. She told us to ask her husband and he gave us both some change. We ran to that truck and I got the ice cream I IDOLIZED – Mario Brothers ice cream with the red gum ball nose. I loved Mario. When we got back in the house, I stood by the door and licked it for the first time. It was so sweet. Don’t you know the whole head fell off the stick and onto the floor! I was crushed! All that hoping. Well, everyone laughed and I wanted to cry but it was okay becayse just about every week after that he bought us ice cream and I ate the mario brothers (carefully) until I was sick of it. Best summer ever!

Ladies, send me an email at to confirm your name, email address and story. Be sure to also provide your mailing address. You have 3 days to do this. If you do not come forward, Mama Clumps will choose another winner. Trust me…she has a list! Thank you all for participating. Stay tuned for the next Clumps of Mascara giveaway!

Skin Break-out Regimen

It’s that time again…..break-out season!

My skin and I have a love-hate relationship. Meaning I ALWAYS love it but it seems to hate me every now and then. For as long as I can remember I have always had break-outs. They are sporadic and usually….bad. I can go a few months without a breakout but when they come, they are AWFUL.

Lately I have been dealing with one of the worst. I’m talkin‘ oily T-zone and pimples galore on my cheeks and chin. Pimples alone are a hassle to deal with. If I’m not trying to prevent them, I am tackling them. If I’m not tackling them, I am dealing with the after effects…..those ugly dark post-pimple marks.

It’s a chore to say the least but if there is one thing I am dedicated to it is clear and healthy skin.

So what’s my break-out bustin‘ regimen? Glad you asked, kids!

First up is my beloved tea tree oil.

I can’t say enough about this essential oil. It truly is a pimple poppin‘ machine. A dab of this on my pimples at night and they are dried up by morn. No joke. It doesn’t smell pretty but this natural antiseptic will always be in my medicine cabinet. You can find out more about tea tree oil HERE.

[NOTE: Tea tree oil should NOT be used all over the face. A simple dab on a pimple should be enough. This is some powerful stuff, kids so if you do want to use it all over, use it with a carrier oil.]

So I’ve zapped the pimples but to keep my skin under control, I need a cleanser that gives me a squeaky clean. Ta da!

I absolutely ADORE Dr. Bonner’s Magic Soap in the liquid form. This castille soap in peppermint gives me a deep cleanse and the peppermint soothes my skin and gives me an extra tingle that I can feel in my pores. I also love that it is an all natural product that contains nothing but wonderful additivies. See….

Did I mention that I also use this AND tea tree oil for my hair? Multi-purpose all natural products? I love it!

So I’ve popped the pimples and am preventing future ones but how do I get rid of those nasty dark spots?

Clinique’s Even Better Skin Tone corrector ($39.50…read more about it HERE). I actually just started using this product. I am reviewing it for Clinique’s Insider Club and am excited to see the results. Of course I will update the Clumps of Mascara family but I am already impressed at how smooth it leaves my skin. Getting rid of those dark spots during and shortly after a break-out will always be a part of my skin regime.

These products combined will help get my skin back on track and I will be back to sporting concealer and blush in no time.

How do you combat the break-outs?

…and if you say you don’t have any—I don’t like you.

LOL, yall know I’m kidding. But really, is your skin usually on its best behavior or does it stay on the trips like mine?

Tell me!

Clear skin to all and to all a good day,

Come back later today to see the latest contest winner. It could be YOU!
