Why or why not?
Okay, is it just me or does it seem like Christmas was just a week or so ago? Why is it already almost mid-February?! That is crazy to me. Before you know it, it will be summer time and yours truly will be flying away to my favorite spots in Hawaii. Or if I can’t afford it, I’ll settle for Daytona or Clearwater beaches here in Florida.
Speaking of “not being able to afford it”….that’s really how I feel about this mascara. I don’t know what it is about me, but I’ve gotten extremely cheap with my make-up purchasing. If I’m going to spend almost $30, I better get more than a measly mascara. And the mascara better be AWESOME!
How did DiorShow Iconic stand up for me? A waste of money or a wonderful investment?
Price: 1 out of 5 ($27 is a bit steep, fam. I’m just sayin’…. )
Packaging (Brush Wand): 4 out of 5
Overall: 4.5 out of 5
What it claims: “A mascara with an innovative oblique brush that curls and defines lashes.” (source)
The truth: I’m just thrilled that it’s not anything like the original Diorshow.
What I loved about it: Wow….I mean, my lashes really looked….almost false! And the wand is pretty groovy. Dior gets 10 points from me for the innovative wand design.
What I didn’t like: This mascara had me residing in Clump City, USA.
Overall: I have been asked to review this mascara ever since it came out. And while I love makin’ yall happy, I just couldn’t allow myself to spend so much on a mascara. Sure, I’ve done it before but times have certainly changed econonmically—as if yall didn’t know.
I felt a little better spending $27 on this baby since it came with a little goody.
One of my biggest frustrations with the original Diorshow was the crazy amount of clumps it gave me. I didn’t see why the mascara was so popular when all it gave me was a hot mess of clumps after the 2nd coat.
But Iconic is different; because the wand is different. Which helps with the clump factor a bit, but not tremendously. I think I’m okay with getting away with two coats of mascara with this baby here. And because it’s a “high drama mascara”, I definitely wouldn’t not wear it to work every day.
But does it do its job? I would say so! I managed to get a good amount of curl and length. And of course, volume. I wish Dior would do something with that “gooby-ness” that is their formula, though. It’s just so thick.
But it is still a good mascara and a lot better than the original.
Would I recommend it?: Only if you can afford it. If not, I highly recommend L’Oreal Volumnious or Max Factor Volume Couture for great black volumized lashes.
What do you think? Have you ever tried this mascara or the original Diorshow? Think it’s overpriced or is it worth it?
Here is my review of the original Diorshow mascara.
I know I’m not the only one out there who LEAVES the house looking one way but when I glance at myself in the mirror a few hours later I’m lookin’ like “Who did it and why?”
I thought my crease looked good.
My liner was perfect.
Why is my blush all the way up to my hairline?

Leave it to a palette of 88 eyeshadows to finally inspire me to do something funky with my lids. I dabbled in my Coastal Scents 88 piece make-up palette all week. I found the neutrals to be beautifully long lasting. The darker mattes blended so nicely on my crease. I spent most of the week oh so desperately wanting to play in the brighter colors. I finally had the opportunity.
MAC Studio Finish concealer in NW45
Too Faced Shadow Insurance
NARS Albatross highlighter
Bright pink–I named it Sweet Tart
Bright orange–I named it Cubanita en Miami
Red–I named it Hot Like..
CoverGirl Lash Blast mascara
Urban Decay 24/7 eyeliner in Lust
NYC eyeliner in White
Revlon Fantasy Lengths lashes in Flirty
NYC lipstick in Garnet
Sally Hansen gloss in Brilliant
One day I’ll get it right. One day.
So yes….the brighter colors from that Coastal Scents 88 piece make-up palette work just as well as the neutrals. I am impressed!
What do you think? Right on? A hot mess? Be honest….
Have a wonderful weekend, family.
Good day, family!
Before we get on with the review, just giving you a heads up of the new “review format”. Instead of just a looooong article with pictures about the products, I will now break it down much like the mascara review. Should make it a lot easier for you to decide if you are interested in the product or not. Okay?
Price: 4 out of 5 (shouldn’t be more than $7)
Packaging: I haven’t decided if I really like using a pen for lip color application.
Overall: 3 out of 5
What it claims: “A lightweight flush of color that lasts for hours without the heavy look or feel of an ordinary lipstick.” (source)
The truth: Well shucks….that’s a pretty accurate claim.
What I loved about it: It looks cool! Yall know I’m all about “innovative beauty”. Using products that don’t look like their previous predecessors is such fun to me. I liked the idea of using a marker-looking product to apply a lip color. I am a fan of lipstick stains so I knew that I would like this.
And look, Mom! It really does look like a marker!
I found that it DOES last for quite awhile. Will it last for 12 hours? Probably not….but I don’t keep lip colors on that long anyway so that’s not important to me. I found that it did well while drinking my 3 bottles of water over a span of 5 hours. I got 425 (not sure of the color) and it goes on pretty well…
What I didn’t like: My goodness, it’s drying!! This product will not work well if you already have dry chapped lips…which I think is a great deal of us with the winter season is full swing.
Okay, so what if I live in Florida….it got down to 40 degrees here a few days and my lips were feeling every bit of it! This product provides ZERO moisture. And should you decide to use a balm or chapstick under it, guess what? It will defeat the purpose of it being a stain. It will look like a regular ole’ gloss. Boooo….
Overall: So it’s not a bad product. But I find that it is really hard to work on my dry lips. And we won’t even talk about how unforgiving this is if you have some lines in your lippies. Oh man…..exhibit A.
I find that throwing a lip gloss on top alleviates the problem but then it looks like a regular gloss. Hmm….see the issue?
Would I recommend it?: Only if you have perfectly smooth lips that don’t need much moisture. If you are like me and have slight imperfections and suffer from dry lips, then this may not work so much. But it is still worth a try as it is a fun product to use!

“Why would anyone need 88 eyeshadow colors?”
A sensible person would ask this.
I have long stopped calling myself “sensible” when it comes to this beauty obsession of mine. I can justify purchasing products that the average person would say, “Uh?” to. Including Coastal Scents’ 88 Piece Makeup Palette. Is it worth it? Is it possible to have a great results with such a cheap product? Let’s seeeee……
Price: 5 out of 5 (only less than $25–that includes shipping!)
Packaging: 5 out of 5
Overall: 5 out of 5
What it claims: “Highly pigmented shades , all shadows can also be applied wet for a deeper longer lasting effect. The compact case makes it easy for storing and traveling. These are priced at wholesale to everyone!” (source)
The truth: This is probably the best beauty buy so far in ’09!
What I loved about it: What’s not to love? I mean, look at how amazing the swatches are:
I don’t even know where to start with where I will put what color where. Decisions, decisions…
Overall: Whether you are new to make-up, a make-up artist or just a regular gal who likes to have her options when it comes to shadows, this is it!! I don’t know what else needs to be said. This is truly a winner in terms of performance, quality and affordability. I am also highly impressed at how quickly this was sent to me. I got it in 2 days. Never mind that I live two hours from the location….the point is Coastal Scents gets an A+ from me in the shipping department.
I did a pretty hilarious video review on it.
Would I recommend it?: Absolutely….
So what do you think? A must have? A pass? Already have it? Don’t need it? You can scoop this up HERE for only $21.95 aaaand, they ship internationally. Woot!!
