Let It Clump’s Debut!

Welcome to Clumps of Mascara’s first post from the Let it Clump series. Let It Clumps posts are where we stop talking about make-up to explore other areas of beauty and beyond. That’s anything! Nails, hair, fashion, jacked up love lives..anything! Any suggestions? Let me know at Brittany@ClumpsOfMascara.com.

Today’s post (and many posts in the near future since this is one of my newest obsessions) is about nails! I am obsessed with nail polishes. Not so much designs, but I absolutely adore beautiful nail colors and find that a lot of them compliment my skin tone. All Laquered Up, one of my favorite beauty blogs dedicated to all things nails, is one of my inspirations. I love wearing anything from neon green, orange, royal purple and black polishes on my nails and toes. Because I try to be a professional lady, I don’t walk around with these colors ALL the time, but that doesn’t stop me from buying them and at least sporting them on my toes.

Today’s creation came out of nowhere. I stumbled across my white finger nail polish from when I tried to keep up my French manicures. But now I think that French manicures on the nails are so played out. Hence my reason for trying to step outside of the box on this one.

Crazy, uh? And with a look like this, you just have to top it off with a big piece of costume jewelry. It’s madd fun!

And last weekend I had a getaway with the BFF and check out the colors on the tootsies.

That’s Coconut “somethin” from China Glaze and I loved it so much that I purchased it. Postin’ pictures of my toes is the first and rather awkward. LOL!

What do you think? My mascara is still clumping but I’m lookin’ fab in the finger/toenail department!

[Oh, and by the way….I’m headed to NYC tomorrow morning until Sunday so excuse the lack of posts. If you’re in the NYC area…hit me up. Let’s paaaarty! Have a fab weekend, everyone!]

80’s Challenge!

Booooo to Mondays. I think it is embedded in our DNA to naturally despise Mondays. But this Monday, we (as in beauty bloggers) have something to look forward to! It’s our 80’s Challenge Post day!

I can’t say this was the easiest look for me to come up with. The 80’s isn’t one of those eras that fascinate me and I remember very little about it. After all, I was only 4 in 1989. I couldn’t find a look that fascinated me enough to want to replicate soooo my look has no real inspiration other than the bright and crazy colors of the 80’s! And as usual….whenever I want a bright look, I pull out those pigments and wet my brush. Nothin’ big but it was fun doing!

Are you peepin’ the crazy funky hair?

I used:

Eyes (all MAC unless otherwise noted):
Artifact paintpot
Delft paintpot
Fuschia pigment
Naval Blue pigment
Vanilla pigment
Clinque Eggplant Cream liner
L’Oreal Voluminous mascara

MAC tinted moisturizer

Check out the looks that my other beauty bloggin’ sisters have come up with. Are we fab or what?

FOTD Friday

Welcome to Clumps of Mascara’s first installment of FOTD Friday! Aside for bringing some color to my traincase via the beautiful pink packaging, Heatherette has also inspired me to start playing around with pigments again. It has been quite awhile since I’ve even touched any kind of colorful eyeshadows or pigments. I had such a ball dappin’ in Heatherette’s Pink Pearl. What a beautiful and FUN pigment….here’s what I used:

EYES (all MAC unless otherwise noted):
Base: Artifact Paint pot (applied with finger)
Pink Pearl pigment (applied with 242)
Carbon eyeshadow ( applied with 224 and 222)
Vanilla pigment (applied with 275)
Blacktrack Fluid line (applied with 266)
Styli Style eye liner
MAC Prep N Prime Mascara
Maybelline Great Lash mascara

Olay Complete Moisture Lotion
Burt’s Bees Herbal Blemish Stick

Lollipop Loving lipstick
Beaux Lustreglass

I’m lovin’ how this looks. It is a bit loud for me. Which is funny because when I first got into make-up, I had no problem rockin’ crazy colors. But now I am more into subtle and professional looks. But Pink Pearl pigment is definitely one that I am glad I added to the collection. If I had more time I would have played around with the middle of the lid adding Nocturnelle or some other pretty purple color. I absolutely adore purples!! But I love Fridays even more!

It’s Friday, bayyyybeeeeee!!!

Heatherette Business

I don’t know how I always manage to be “available” when a new MAC collection is released. I will do what I can to be there around 10am when the mall opens. Which is kinda sad, but I can’t help it. The excitement is too much fun to me and only my other MAC obsessed sistas understand.

I haven’t said much about Heatherette because I wasn’t too excited about it. I’ve learned to keep the excitement to a minimum until I actually SEE products. Anything can look good in an ad, online and in a picture. Nah boo, I ain’t that easy to fool. And for the record….trying to swatch everything AND take pictures while trying to stay discrete is hella hard. I ain’t doin’ that anymore. LOL!

This collection is definitely the hotness in terms of packaging!!!! No stickers here, folx. Everything is so beautiful. I really wanted to haul everything but I didn’t because (1) I’m on a budget (2) I’m sick of buyin’ stuff I don’t need and (3) I’m on a budget.

Here’s my opinions about the eye trios and why I feel they aren’t needed:

Heather Trio 1

Hoppin’–looks like Bamboo
Mood ring–looks like Parrott and/or Shimmermoss-ish
Cloudburst–looks like Black Tied except with blue(I think) shimmers

Heatherette Trio 2

Baby Petals–Eh…
V.I.P.–Looks like a ton of pinks. Nothing different here.
Cassette–Looks like Thunder (from the Blue Storm Collection)

The packaging, however, for these trios is soooooo darling! But if you have colors like these, I would definitely pass. I’m so over haulin’ stuff just because it looks good. It is a waste of money and product. But you know….that’s just my “tryna be frugal and spend money on better things” self.

I passed on the pencils, lacquers and the beauty powders. The pencils were nice buuuut, I usually don’t wear color on the lower lash line. Except Black. Which sounds boring but….. They were mighty pretty though.

The pigments were beautiful!! Jardin Aires and Pink Pearl were just divine. I doubt I would ever wear either but I seriously may go back and get them. They are just too pretty .

Don’t wear glitter so I passed on those. Actually I’m extremely anti-glitter. Unless I’m trying to re-live my middle school years, but I digress. HA!

Now on to the lippies….first of all, I was INFURIATED when I found out that my MAC store no longer accepts depotted eyeshadow pots. Since when? I’ve always done it there but this MA told me that they stopped doing that a year ago. She told me that it didn’t make sense to turn in a pot just to get another “free” pot. I mean, I agree with her but they should have thought about that a looooong time ago. So I sadly toted away my 6 pots and that is why I didn’t end up getting as much as I wanted. I’m going to try another MAC Store. Hehe..

Anywhoooo….here is what I got. Couldn’t swatch too many because people were starin’ at my arm so I passed on some.

HA! That’s all I got….Hollywood Nights is beautiful but in my opinion, “too much”. I would never wear it. Maybe for a night on the town with my girls but…nahhhh. I was really interested in Fleshpot but it looks simply awful on me. So does Starlett Kiss lip glass. I ended up hauling only Lollipop Loving lipstick and Sock Hop Lipglass.

And I can’t say I’m THAT impressed with those two. The packaging though…the packaging. So pretty, yall. Now, I’m going to show you some FOTDs with my lippies buuuut my brows looks jacked up and I’m not wearing anything but mascara and liner. So I hope I ain’t lookin’ too much of a H.A.M. for yall. Haha….

See…there’s no WOW about it but I had to get somethin’….waitin’ to see what my other blog sistas got. All in all, I liked Heatherette. But moreso for the packaging. As a newbie, I am learning to not let MAC con me into getting stuff that I already have. LOL, not that I don’t enjoy being conned but I’m trying to be smart about this make-up obsession. Allure’s Beauty Trends are coming next post. I haven’t forgotten.

Peace and Heatherette, beauties!

Hi lovelies!
My life is the busiest right now….and not in a good way, either so excuse me for bein’ a bit behind on commenting and posting. I do have a little time to get up on 2 topics that my blog sistas Shawnta and Nywele (nap love!) tagged me on.

My Top 10 Must Not Have Items

(1) MAC’s Strobe Cream: A hot pearly mess on this woman of color. And it’s too heavy on the face….AND it’s too much money and you don’t get enough product and I think it is just one unnecessary product (angry much?…hehe).

(2) Revlon eye shadows: Now I’m all for cheap but these colors are hardly pigmented. And the colors look a H.A.M. on….you guessed it—“this” woman of color.

(3) MAC Lipglasses: I know, I know….I purchase them, but the more I think about it, the less I like them. They aren’t any better than other lip products. In fact, I find them to be more drying and they stay on less longer than the cheaper brands. And I’m sure there are hella dupes. I just got “caught” up because it’s MAC. Towards the beginning of my blog, I vowed to never spend that much money on a lip product……ahem, 12 products later…

(4) Pantene Pro-V (in the gold bottle): You’re kidding me right? Sulfate-galore.

(5) NYC Nail polishes. They are super cheap but these bad boys come off in 1.5 days. And don’t even try to wash dishes. Chile please….

Now for the top 5 Beauty Crimes:

(1) I keep my mascara longer than 3 months…..and I don’t care either. Muahahahaaaa.

(2) I purchase products because of a collection but I know good and dern well I will probably never used them (ahem, Fafi Eyes 1).

(3) I let my finger nails get too long. I don’t even take the time to care for them the way that I should.

(4) I hardly wash my hair. Which is okay because I have a thicker texture but seriously….I can go 2-3 months without washing my hair and that’s just not cute. I mean, it doesn’t stink or anything—I’m just too lazy to wash it.

(5) I spend money I don’t have on cosmetics. The biggest crime of them all! I still can’t justify $10 on some eye shadow because that could be gas money, payin’ off a bit of a student loan, a gift for my Mother, shoot….something else “more” important.

Have you done any of these yet? Let me knowwww!! I don’t think I’m going to link anyone because I’m pretty sure most of done this already! I love these random question posts…..helps us get to know each other better. I’m a cornball, sing Kumbyah type yall, so don’t mind me.

Allure’s Beauty Spring Trends, part II comin’ soon so stay tuned!

Peace & sunshine

Allure’s Beauty Trends: Part 1

Wow, this post is way overdue! My apologies…life is loca ‘roun these parts, but alas, beauty must go on. Welcome to Clumps of Mascara’s first installment of Allure’s Hottest Beauty Trends. Let’s start with Number 8!!!

8. Matte skin….

To keep foundation form looking caked on, choose a light liquid foundation and use a brush instead of a puff.

I have only had a few experiences (and bad ones at that) with face make-up so I tend not to wear it on a regular. But when I do, I prefer to have matte skin instead of a “glowy” look. When I think of matte skin, I automatically think of mineral make-up and or tinted moisturizers. They are perfect for degreasing your skin and giving you a nice matte look. Unfortunately, I don’t have any examples of me bustin’ the matte look because my face is goin’ through some thangs right now.

My skin is normally dry so this is easy for me to achieve. If your skin is relatively oily, try using blotting papers throughout the day. Follow this link to check out some of Sephora’s anti-shine products to achieve that beautiful matte skin.

Product Alert: While strolling through Target’s cosmetic lanes (a sport of mine) I spotted a product from Rimmel.

Haven’t tried it out and I don’t remember the pricing, but I think it’s worth of try for those of you interested in the matte skin. If you have it and like it, let me know!

Coming in at Number 7 is…..

7. Gold shadow.

Bright yellow gold- or slightly bronzed is great for night looks. When tempered with brown, it looks fantastic!

I used:
BASES: UDPP and Bamboom paint
LID: Amberlights
MIDDLE: Antique (applied with wet with Fix +)
Outer V and Crease: Twinks
Highlight: Vex
L’Oreal Telescopic
Revlon Colorstay Eyeliner
MAC Engraved Eyeliner

I applied this very lightly with not much intensity as I should have….not a big fan of gold eye shadow on my lids anymore but it was fun to revisit. Anyone have any FOTDs of gold shadows that they would like me to feature?

Stay tuned for the next 6 beauty trends.

Peace and chai tea!

Get ready, get set, get beauty!

Spring time 2008 is coming! In honor of Spring, I have decided to showcase Allure Backstage: Hottest Beauty Trends. Now I have to admit, I’m not a big fan of “trends”. Never have been. I consider myself to be unique and I like developing my own style when it comes to make-up and fashion. My fashionista friend, Ari over at Fashion Devotee had me watching this Allure Backstage episode, as well as reading the magazine AND checkin’ out Project Runway. I have a better appreciation for fashion but I’m still rockin’ what I like even if it fits the trend or not.

These Allure tips focus more on beauty and hair anyway, so this is great. Each post, I will highlight two tips with pictures (and my attempts, yay!) and descriptions of how you can achieve these looks. I admit..I had TOO much fun trying to re-create these looks for yall. Enjoy the next few installments of Allure’s Backstage: Hottest Beauty Trends! And no worries, newbies. If I can attempt these trends, you can too!

……but until we get to that, let’s do a quick blogroll of some of the beauty blogs that I have recently added to my blogroll.

Suzanne at Mineral Make-up Reviews has all of the business about…..mineral make-up! I am definitely checkin’ this place out every time she updates.

Grayburn also wow-ed me with tons of information (with her personal testimonials) on mineral make-up.

Mrs. Lynne (who I call Auntie Lynne for some unknown reason) over at Makeupfix.net has re-launched her website to something beautiful! Go and check it out!

Over at the Girl-Woman-Beauty-Brains-Blog, Beckie and Jamie (a mother and sister team, how cool is that?) are discussing “Women Over 50 Have Cha-Ching Power”.

The lovely ladies at Virtuous Blue tell as all about the Black and White challenge with their friends. Fab!

Hmmm….and just in time for Spring, Nywele over at Coup de Coeur hits us with some oh so yummy ways of smellin’ good.

Check out the new ladies who have found their places on my blogroll. I am so lucky! More beauty bloggin’ family and more inside beauty/make-up tips.

Peace and happy demeanors!
