Question of the Week:

Your friend borrows your makeup and returns it in awful condition.
What do you do?

B says, “End the friendship. Haha, I’m kidding. I probably wouldn’t let a friend borrow makeup.”

What about you?

See you next week!

Need A New All Natural Skincare Brand To Try? Get Some Just Natural In Your Life!

This is a sponsored post by Just Naturals and they have so graciously given me the opportunity to try some of their skincare products. This is perfect timing because I have been spending a lot of time in the sun and it has really taken a toll on my skin. Elle’s ezcema is also getting out of control (again) so we were both in need of some new skincare products that could really pamper the skin. Just Natural prides themselves on providing vegan and cruelty-free products that are handmade. And they have succeeded. All of their products feel as if they could have been made right at home.

Just Natural

Just Naturals sent me a ton of goodies and I spent a few weeks test driving everything.

Just Natural Turbinado Brown Sugar Body Scrub

Let’s talk about the glory that is their Turbinado Brown Sugar Body Scrub ($27). This earthy and sweet smelling scrub smells fantastic. Like many scrubs, the scent will not linger but when applying it, you will enjoy how nice it smells. I found this scrub to be perfect for me. However, those with sensitive skin may want to stay away as smoothing it on the skin may appear too abrasive for some.

Just Natural Turbinado Brown Sugar Body Scrub in hands

Just Natural has dumped Kukui and Hazelnut oils in this scrub and so even after you wash it off, you are left with such soft skin. LOVE!

Just Natural Skin Calming and Healing Lotion

Their Skin Calming & Healing Lotion ($29.99) is what I was really excited to try because Elle has been in need of a  lightweight moisturizer. I usually use thicker creams on her but in the summer, her skin does okay with something light. The Healing lotion is not insanely moisturizing and almost fragrance-free.

Just Natural Skin Calming and Healing Lotion on skin

The scent of Sweet Orange Blossom Essential Oil is light and pleasant and I’m thinking this baby is great for summer and for those who don’t suffer from really dry skin.

Just Natural Skin Calming Body Wash

The Skin Calming Natural Body Wash ($13.99) has been a staple in my shower for weeks now. I have been on the hunt for skincare products that maintain a healthy pH balance. This soap-free body wash doesn’t lather or foam and is the one of the better body washes that I’ve tried in quite some time.

Just Natural Skin Calming Body Wash on hand

Instead of drying this skin out, this wash moisturizes as it cleanses. The aloe vera gel included is great for dry and inflamed skin and it is such a treat for those of us with eczema.

Just Natural Body Nutritive Serum spray

The Body Nutritive Serum ($25.99)  is by far my favorite product of the bunch. It has a really nice and woodsy scent and I find it to be more of an oil than a serum. It is the perfect summer oil as it dissipates quickly but keeps the skin feeling moisturized for hours. I can’t get enough of this stuff!

I’m a huge fan of Just Natural. I will be restocking up on their Body Wash and Serum when I run out. I find the prices to be reasonable for an all natural brand and more than anything, I like how the brand really takes pride in only providing nourishing oils and properties in their products.

I am just itching to try out some of their butters but it looks as if they are out of stock. That totally bums me out, but hey…I’m taking it as a good sign that they really make spectacular buttahs. For more information about Just Natural, visit their site.

butter LONDON Colour Hardwear Nail Art Tool Kit

Butter London Nail Art Kit

Some of us are great writers. Others are great athletes. And then some of us are really good at nail art. I’ve mentioned a thousand times that I suck at the latter. And you know what? I’m totally okay with that. Luckily the fine folks at butter LONDON are making it easy for us not so creative folx to get our grooves on with some basic nail art skills. I recently received a press sample of their Colour Hardware Nail Art Took Kit and I can’t be more excited to try this baby out.

Butter London Colour Hardware Nail Art Tool Kit

Very cool, right? The most practical tool, I think is the Clean Up Brush because what nail polish lover doesn’t find that handy? My second favorite is the Dotting Tool because even if you are darn awful with nail art, chances are you can crank out a few dots with any problems. Shoot girl, if I can do it anyone can.

And they are also giving us a little manual in case we need to see actual pictures. Thank you bL!

This cute little kit goes for $30 at ULTA.com and I think it’s a sweet option for people like me who just want the basics. And it’s even better for those who are just starting out.

So what about you? Are you into nail art? Or would you rather stick to the many other skills that you’ve got?

Oh! And since we’re talking butter LONDON awesomeness, check out some of my favorite bL thangs…

Beauty Basics As Told By…Beauty Bloggers!

Beauty Basics
I feel so special every time I get a reader email. I really do. It never gets old and I feel so honored when someone takes the time to ask lil’ ole’ me a question. In honor of reader Lisa’s 30th birthday, I have decided to craft a post just for her. Lisa just had a birthday and wants to start getting into makeup more. She dropped me her stats and while I immediately had some suggestions for her, I ran to some of my fellow beauty bloggers and asked for their thoughts and product recommendations.

Lisa's Stats

And here’s what the girls say…

She should for sure get a palette. Great budget ones are the Maybelline nudes or NYX Natural or the Dream catcher ones. I think they are like $15 unless you can get a deal at Ulta like right now 50% off. Hazel eyes look amazing with purples and bronzes. It helps bring out the flecks of color”
– Jamie from Makeup, Life & Love

I’d definitely recommend the wet n wild trios/palettes. They are very straightforward about application, which makes them beginner-friendly (with a diagram on the back showing where to place each color) and have a great texture. The best part, they range from $1.99 to $5. My favorites are the Walking on Eggshells trio for an every day look, or the Comfort Zone palette for more options to bring a look into nighttime.
– Miranda from SlashedBeauty.com

Foundation I would suggest Loreal Lumi. Neutrals I think WetnWild offers nice colors. Cover Girl has lovely bronzers.
– Norah from Norah Loves Makeup

For blushes and lipstick/lip gloss I would definitely recommend Milani, and for the rest she can go to town at NYX and e.l.f.. Some of my best budget buys were from those three brands.
-Anastasia from Glamorable

Right now I’m messing around with the L’Oreal Visible Blur Lift Foundation. It’s ah-may-zing. That, dust some powder… facial perfection.  Oh and for mascara Milani Total Lash Cover!
Brooke from Blushing Noir

Rimmel ScandalEyes mascara and the Apocalips line from Rimmel. Great products, imo. (I’m over at Be Happy And Buy Polish. I just saw a great post today about great neutral eyeshadow palettes under $10 – there were two Wet n Wild palettes in it that sounded great.
– Jessica from Be Happy and Buy Polish

Gaia of The Non-Blonde has 2 fantastic posts on Starting To Wear Makeup in Your 30’s and 40’s. Check them out here and here.

Makeup for Beginners

I’d recommend going to a makeup counter to test shades to see what she likes, then looking for similar colors from ELF, NYX, and wet n wild.
– Nidia from Lit from Within

I recommend NYX and Maybelline to start out with as well as with Milani.
-Jacqueline from Fab Diva 20

Oh. Fair and blonde! From one fair blonde to another – I love peachy-golden blushes with my skin tone. Like Nars Orgasm or NYX Apricot. For pinks, I try to choose dusty rose and bright pink shades that are not too dark or too pigmented so they don’t stick out like a sore thumb on my face. Like Milani Baked Blush in Dolce Pink. I love using MAC Mineralize Skin Finishes as blushes, too, and they can help you find a great color for your skin tone! Also, for night time, a red like Milani Color Statement Lipstick in Red Label or Best Red would pop! Also, their purple, Violet Volt would look great too! I also am in love with how well Too Faced Melted Lipstick in Melted Violet looks with my fair skin/blonde hair. At the end of the day, it’s all about trial and error and finding what you like! Drug store makeup makes that affordable, and some places – like CVS and Walgreens – have return policies so you can try a different shade or get your money back!
-Judy from Beauty Judy

For lipstick/lipgloss I would recommend Revlon Colorburst lip butters and lipglosses. As for eyeshadows, I also vote for WetnWild palettes and for eyeliner and blushes, Milani is the brand to go for!
– Harshleen from Beauty Tidbits

Question of the Week:

You can only wear one shade of lipstick for the rest of your life – name it.

B says, “Whooooa…that’s a tough one. It has to be a red one. So I’ll say COVERGIRL Queen’s Cherry Bomb.”

What about you? What lippy would you wear forever and ever?

See you next week!

Milani Brilliant Lip Shine Lip Glosses Are Glossy. Really Glossy.

So guess who did another videooo–ooooh? Your truly. I received these lip glosses for review a looooong time ago and I hate that I am just now doing a review for them but yo…better late than never, am I right?

Lip Shine Pinterest

Simply put? I love them. Like, a lot. They are priced reasonably at less than $6 and these non-tacky glosses are actually more pigmented in the tube than they are on the lips. At least some of them.

Milani Lip Shine swatches

And how ’bout that red? And that purple? Girl yes…they are my favorite of the bunch. These are probably ideal for those who really don’t want to be bothered with a ton of reapplying.

Milani Brilliant Lip Shine purple

But hey, I didn’t come over here to WRITE a review. I really just wanted to drop the link to the video review. I almost had a breakdown in that video but I had to breathe through it. I don’t know what it is with me. I used to be so confident in front of the camera. I’m supposed to get better with time. Not revert back to that insecure 7th grader. Let’s hope I can get it together before I turn 30. Which is like in…6 months. Eeeek! But yay. No really. I think growing older is a beautiful thang. Not many people get the chance, ya know?

Thanks for viewing and buy these lippies here.

The Beauty in Washing Clothes with Safonique!

Just kidding. There is no beauty in washing clothes. It’s only the worst chore everrrr! I wash a lot of clothes, y’all. It’s unreal, really. I’m still in my baby makin’ years but I can’t see myself having more than 2 kids because with each new family member comes more loads. And honestly, washing a family of three’s loads are more than enough for me. And don’t even get me started on washing cloth diapers. It’s not a chore. It’s a lifestyle…

I received a sample of Safonique Natural Cleaning Power Eco-Friendly Lavender Sea Laundry Detergent awhile back and I’ve put it through the ringer (haha, literally) many many times. It’s hard to review a laundry detergent because so many factors come into play.

Safonique
-What kind of water do you have?
-What temperature is your water?
-How full do you load your washer?
-What kind of fabric are you washing?

Yes, girl. If you didn’t know there was a science behind washing clothes. That said, I will really only judge on its cleansing power, overall efficacy and how it smells. Developed over 15 years by Patricia A. Boswell, Safonique is a hypoallergenic detergent with pure essential oils. The ingredients are: coconut oil, palm kernels, sugar, baking soda, natural oils and natural enzyemes.

DSC_0195

I’m not gonna lie, it frustrates me when brands don’t go deeper with their ingredients list. WHAT natural oils? What kind of natural enzymes? These things are important to those of us with skin sensitivities. And y’know…just for overall knowledge. What Safonique does tell us is that their formula is Phosphate Free, Cruelty Free, Septic System Safe and free from Synthetic Dyes and Perfumes. Well, okay…I’m down with that.

Because of how concentrated this stuff is, you really only need about 2 ounces for regular loads. And boom…that’s it.

Those not a fan of the scent lavender won’t like this. It really is that simple. After washing and drying, my clothes smelled as if I rolled through a field of lavender and I looooved it. This is a big deal since we typically wash our clothes in detergents without fragrances. Even when I add my own drops of essential oils, I can’t get the smell to last beyond washing.

DSC_0204

In terms of general cleaning, this stuff works beautifully and I think it’ll be a great buy for mamas of little ones, those with sensitive skin and folx who are desirous of gently scented clothes that don’t smell too “fake”. If you’ve got a dirt slinging kiddo or serious stains throughout, you may want to reach for something a little stronger. And as much as I love Safonique, it isn’t heavy duty enough to tackle cloth diapers. Then again, very few detergents are.

Oh, and can we talk about the very cool 50 oz plastic packaging? I’d love if more brands went this route as the pouch takes up less space and looks like it’ll be easier to recycle.

DSC_0206

If you’re a lover of natural laundry detergents, you should definitely give Safonique a try. It is priced well under $7 at Walmart.com.

What do you think? Are you a naturalista when it comes to laundering the clothes or do you just use what works?
