Tales of an Elizabeth Arden bronzer…

Oooh Elizabeth Arden. Can I be honest? You’re a brand that I never gave much thought to before. Of course, your products are legendary because they’ve been around for ever. Your longevity in the beauty arena shows that you have what it takes to help women feel beautiful and provide them with quality cosmetics, skincare and fragrances. But are you made for the younger generation? I’m not sure.

When I think of Elizabeth Arden, I always think of products that my Grandmother would wear. But clearly that’s sheer ignorance because this Elizabeth Arden Pure Finish Bronzer Powder was SO made for me.

DSC_3395

This is why you can’t go around judging brands until you actually do your research and try some of the products. That’s okay, you don’t have to research anything. That’s my job. ūüėé

DSC_3399

I got the opportunity to try this bronzer and I’ve been wearing it faithfully all fall long. The thing is, there’s nothing super innovative about it. It’s like most bronzers in that it contains subtle shimmer to give you that natural glow. It’s lightweight and according to ElizabethArden.com, it is infused with green tea, white tea and minerals. So it’s not only pretty on the skin but it has healing and moisturizing properties as well. Niiiiiiice. Packaging the wise, the palette is stunning, classy and attractive.

DSC_3392

But of course, darling. You wouldn’t expect anything less from Elizabeth Arden, now would you? The bronzers come in 3 shades: Soft Radiance, Deep Radiance and Warm Radiance. I was all set to be disappointed with Warm Radiance (because let’s face it…sometimes these higher-end brands don’t really cater to the darker skinned beauties of the world) but you know what? It worked very nicely with my skin.

DSC_3406

Granted bronzers don’t have to be DEAD ON when it comes to matching your complexion but I’ve found that bronzers that are too fair make me look washed out. This bronzer, however, it works beautifully on me. Impressed? Heck yeah, I am!

See how nice and subtle the shimmer is?

DSC_3409

Very nice. I will definitely be playing with more Elizabeth Arden products. This bronzer retails for $38 so it’s ideal for my higher-end brothers and sisters of the beauty world. You can scoop it up at ElizabethArden.com or at select Elizabeth Arden counters at department stores.

My favorite Asian beauty product comes to the States!

I adore cosmetics from other countries. Especially Asian cosmetics. I follow a ton of beauty bloggers who live in Japan, Korea, Thailand and Hong Kong and I am forever going gaga over the the cosmetics and tools that seem to only be in their neck of the woods. And for the longest, you just couldn’t find sheet masks in the U.S. Until now!

DSC_1003

I know. I look all creep-tastic like I’m Michael Myer’s OTHER sister but I am beyond excited that these are finally accessible. Not quite¬†drugstore accessible but hey, I can settle with ordering them online. I’ve done beauty swaps with some of my Asian beauty bloggers and the gals aways included these awesome sheet masks. Trust me, y’all. If you haven’t tried ’em yet, they are definitely worth a try.

DSC_0972

Say “hi” to the brand MaskerAide. MaskerAide has a nice line of sheet masks that not only cover a wide range of needs but they are also vegan! Aaaand fragrance-free! I know, I know! These were so made for me.

Packaging-wise, I find these to be adorable. I’m a little annoyed at how the blonde chick is on EVERY sheet though. Why couldn’t there have been a little more diversity on the various sheets? Y’all know how I get. Lack of diversity annoys me, even in beauty products.

But anyway – there are 6 different kinds of masks for various conditions…

Detoxing

DSC_0974

One that helps with aging skin

DSC_0975

A mask for skin that has been beaten up by the weather

DSC_0977

A mask for brightening and energizing

DSC_0978

A pre-nighttime mask

DSC_0979

One that helps with awakening and refreshing skin

DSC_0980

I think these descriptions are cutesy and just to see if they were really different, I took a peep at the ingredients from all of the packagings and they are all different. For example, the detoxing mask includes aloe vera gel whereas some of the others do not. Okay, fair enough.

While I like think these are nice, I woud have loved to see masks targeted to dry skin, oily skin and acne sufferers. Those make sense to me whereas do I really understand the use of a Beauty Restore mask? Meh. Not so much. But aside from that, the lack of preservatives and the performance of these masks are really impressive. Each masks comes with instructions…

DSC_0982

And added information about the ingredients.

DSC_0983

DSC_0990

Very impressive, uh? Especially the fragrance free part. Y’all know I’m a fragrance hater but I think anyone would be if they’d have to wear a facial sheet on their face for a good 10-20 minutes, ya know?

I test drove 2 of these masks. My favorite between Detox Diva and Beauty Restore is definitely Detox Diva. This is one hydrating mask! Application is simple too. Simply rip ‘er up…

DSC_0993

…when removing the mask from the packaging, you’ll have to be careful as the mask is super moist and may drip all over.

DSC_0997

Which I guess is a good thing. At least you get enough product. You’ve got to be careful about peeling open the mask as if you do so too roughly, you may tear apart some pieces.

DSC_0999

And then you apply it on your face. It really is that simple and these sheet masks feel great! Unlike most masks, they feel cool the entire time you wear them. And it feels goooood. I can’t say for sure if the mask changed my skin’s condition greatly as I only used 2 in a span of 2 weeks but who knows? Maybe overtime and with regularly use they’d do some good. The relaxing nature of these sheet masks are reason enough for why I’d like to make an effort to wear one at least once a week.

You can get these from MaskerAide sheet masks from MaskerAide.com at $4.99. Here’s to hopin’ we’ll see these in stores soon. Woo hooo!

Any sheet masks lovers in the house?

Urban Decay Naked Skin Liquid Foundation – best liquid foundation EVER!

Look at me! I’m reviewing a foundation! It’s a well known¬†Clumps of Mascara fact that I like to be foundation-free. Between being too lazy to applying it each morning, not wanting to deal with it¬†potentially¬†coming off in the Florida heat AND having this inherent fear that it’ll cause breakouts, I do just fine with applying concealer and powder. But every now and then, I can’t ignore the hype every time a brand releases a new foundation. Such was the case with Urban Decay’s Naked Skin Weightless Ultra Definition Liquid Makeup.

Before I even get into my experience of using this foundation, let’s check out the specs.

-Gives a demi-matte to matte finish
-Includes anti-aging properties like Matrixyl 3000
-Hygienic pump makes for less product waste
-Formula is without parabens, sulfates, synthetic fragrances and phthalates
-Available in 18 shades
-Transparent bottle lets you know when it’s time to re-up.

Biggest selling point to me? The fact that it’s free from synthetic ingredients. Win, win and win again! If I’m going to slather a foundation all over my face, I’d much rather it be one that is on the gentler side. First impressions of this foundation were like any other that I’ve tried. It intimidated me. I stared at the bottle forever trying to figure out how to apply the foundation. What kind of brush should I use? Should I use a brush at all? These are the things beauty anxieties are made of. Fo real, y’all.

But honestly, application was really very easy. I grabbed my trusty ecoTOOLS skunk brush…

..and got to work. I squirted a bit of the foundation on the back of my hand, stipled the brush in the foundation and then dabbed all over my face.

I find this the easiest way to apply liquid foundation. I’m sure there are better or easier techniques but I’m an old lady who likes to stick with what she knows.¬†Plus, applying liquid foundation this way feels so good on my skin. It doesn’t feel like work. It feels like I’m pampering my skin.

The first time I had this foundation on, I had to do a double-take because I just didn’t LOOK like I applied anything. In fact, I ended up washing my face and starting over except only applying foundation on one side of my face. See a difference?

I do too but it’s not a drastic change. And I’m not complaining because I hate nothing more than the¬†obvious foundation look. More than anything, I didn’t FEEL like I had on foundation. I’ve been wearing this daily for a few weeks (with a few breaks in between) and haven’t had any problems whatsoever. Oh oh! And let’s not even talk about how dead on the color matches my complexion. I’m wearing 12.0 and even at first swatch, I knew it would be a match made in heaven.

So yes, Urban Decay…YES! Y’all knocked this foundation out of the park. Any time a self-proclaimed foundation hater can brag about a product, you know it’s good. I love how long-lasting this foundation is. And it’s not only incredibly lightweight, but it also wears well in the Florida humidity. Which says a lot.

Quite honestly? I can’t find one thing to complain about when it comes to this baby. Ah yes….the lack of sunscreen. That part does annoy me a bit because I feel like all foundations should have some dose of sunscreen in ’em. But thankfully the powder I use to top off the foundation has sunscreen in so, so I’m covered there.

I can’t even complain about the price tag because at $38, it really isn’t THAT steep.¬†You can grab a bottle of this magical foundation stuff at Sephora stores and at Sephora.com.

Have any of you foundation-wearin’ gals tried this foundation yet?

Biore’s new look!

Okay, so we all know how ridiculously sensitive my skin is and how I very rarely change up my skincare regimen. But just because I can’t use a product doesn’t mean I don’t want to sound the horn and tell y’all about ’em. Such is the case with Biore.

Biore has been busy yo! Look at that redesign. This certainly isn’t the Biore that I grew up with but I’m okay with that. The packaging is cleaner, classier and definitely hipper. Fine by me. I haven’t personally tested any of these products but I did want to showcase them for my Biore fans. The best thing about Biore? The fact that they have SO many skincare products for various skincare needs.

4-in-1 Detoxifying Cleanser

This multi-tasking face wash that cuts your routine down to one step, gently removes dirt, oil and makeup from skin without over-drying or stripping skin of its natural oils. The formula cleanses, tones, stimulates and detoxifies to help restore a healthy glow.

Steam Activated Cleanser, with SteamActiv‚ĄĘ Beads

Esposo LOVES these kind of cleansers. This invigorates skin with a cooling mint extract complex that contrasts against the warmth of the steam to revitalize the senses.

Pore Unclogging Scrub

My fellow acne suffers will dig this one. This creamy pearlized formula is designed to lift away pore-clogging dirt and oil. The cleanser contains spherical exfoliating microbeads that gently remove dull, lifeless surface cells without damaging skin and Salicylic acid to help prevent blackheads and breakouts from forming.

Warming Anti-Blackhead Cleanser

I’ll be holding on to this one for when after Baby Clumps is born. I don’t think I’ve ever tried a warming cleanser! This powerful blackhead-fighting cleanser is formulated with Zeolite, a special mineral clay that warms on contact with water, to help open up pores and clear out dirt, oil and makeup.

Deep Cleansing Pore Strips (available in 8 and 14 count nose strips)

Clean a week’s worth of dirt build-up in by using these once a week. The strips are the deepest way to clean pores in just ten minutes.

Daily Cleansing Cloths

These ultra-convenient, pre-moistened wipes are infused with grapefruit and pomegranate. Each cloth is double-sided, featuring a textured side for mild exfoliation and a smooth side to wipe skin clean.

These products are moderately priced between $5.99-$11.99. The pore strips are the most expensive of the bunch but you can score the cleanser for close to nothing at $5.99. I’ve seen these products are over drugstores and you can scoop ’em up at Drugstore.com.

The NEW Clarisonic Aria. My wallet groans…

I have a love/hate relationships with Clarisonic. And I’m not ashamed to admit this either. We all know why I LOVE the brand. I’ve publicly bragged about them ¬†more times than I can count. I’ve purchased the Mia, played with the Plus¬†and swooned over the Mia 2’s newest colors. Any time I’m asked about my favorite skincare products, I tell folx to save their pennies and get a Clarisonic.

So how I can hate Clarisonic at the same time? Because these magicians keep coming out with MORE Clarisonics that I feel like I HAVE to purchase. And just how in the world do you justify having more than one Clarisonic? How? You can’t. And for that I both scoff and jump for joy every time I see a Clarisonic doused in a new shade. And in this case…an entirely new brush.

Her name is Aria. A beautiful name for such a beautiful device. These press photos don’t do her any justice but she’s a beaut. And she’s glossy. Glossy! That’s like a synonym for glitter. Beauty lovers love glossy and glittery packaging.

Check out some of the specs of Lady Aria herself…

  • three speeds make for a variety of customizable cleansing options
  • an illuminated bezel indicates speed selection as well as pause and charging modes
  • a USB enabled p-Link charger allows you to recharge Aria
  • the convertible drying stand, which can be used on your sink or in your shower, converts into a charging cradle by simply attaching the pLink charger
  • beautifully modern high-gloss finish
  • two-year warranty ensures longevity

Dude, this chick is fancy yo. She comes with a USB charger and an¬†illuminated bezel? I mean…wow. Priced at $199, she sits comfortably between the Mia ($119) and the Plus ($225). *sigh* I hate that I feel like I need it. I hate that I’ll be dreaming about this bloody thing until it’s in my¬†possession. But I love that it exists.

The Clarisonic Aria is currently available online and in Sephora stores. For Clarisonic lovers who are like me and can never say “no”, give my¬†condolences¬† to your wallet.

Willa Naturals: Natural skincare for tweens.

Inspired by the delicate skin of her preteen, Christy Prunier has launched a natural skincare line of products just for the preteens and teens of the world. And the name of the brand is Willa!

Dear Mama Clumps,
How come you never developed a skincare line and named it after me? I guess it’s never too late to start. Bee’s Lippies, maybe? Let’s think about it.
XOXO,
B

Seriously though – what a cool concept, uh? I mean think about it – you’re 10, 11, 12 or 13…you don’t know much about skincare but you do realize you should be doing more than just splashing water on it at night. What do you use? Your Mom’s face wash has anti-aging properties splattered all over it and your younger sister’s products are for babies. And come on…you’re not a baby. And hence why Willa was born!

I think this line absolutely fills the market of young girls who are taking baby steps into skincare. And I just love that the brand omits the yucky ingredients It’s a paraben-free, cruelty-free and sulfate-free brand. I got to play around with the foaming cleanser and moisturizer. I wanted to use them and tap into my 11-year old self. Would I have used this back then?

Foaming Face Wash ($11 for 5.1 fl oz)

Developed to be a gentle face wash, the goal is simple: it helps to remove dirt from the skin. That’s it. And that’s really all a preteen needs in a face wash, right? The foaming action makes it easy to not over-distribute and it’s fun!

My 11-year old self would have had a ball with this. Scent-wise, I picked up on a ton of lavender but it’s not an overwhelming but pleasant enough for the young girls. I can appreciate that it doesn’t smell too kiddy. I would have cried if this smelled like bubblegum or somethin’ like that. Ick.

Clear Face Moisturizer ($11.50 for 1 fl oz)

While I think the packaging for this kid is a bit too small, I love the concept behind this moisturizer. Unlike most moisturizers on the market it isn’t super creamy or heavy. It’s a lightweight serum and has aloe, grape seed extract and has eucalyptus throughout. Genius! This is exactly what preteen skin needs. And by lightweight, they mean lightweight…

Of course my troubled skin requires more but this is perfect for the younger girlies. I love the scent on this one as it is very faint and dissipates after application. The moisturizer sinks in the skin but doesn’t feel oily or greasy.

What an adorable brand! The packaging is right up the alley of the preteens of the world and I think the products I’ve tried are pretty stellar. The price point is a little higher than what a parent may want to pay for but I’ll be one of those mommies that stresses healthy hygiene and so an investment of a “good” brand of skincare products is worth it to me.

Willa also has an Acne Spot Treatment Click Pen, Tinted Moisturizer with SPF 30, Face Towelettes, Cucumber Masks, Body Lotion and cutesy glosses. Everything is under $17.50 so parents won’t be breaking the bank if their daughters (or sons) develop a Willa obsession.

Adorable, right? You can scoop up Willa products online and at select Target sotres and J.Crew’s.

Okay, admit it – who else wasn’t thinking about healthy skin betwen the ages of 10 and 13? Anyone?

Take the Eucerin Skin First Pledge

Time to take a pledge, guys and gals! It’s a heavy commitment so if you don’t think you’re ready, give it some time and think about it. Y’all know how serious I am about skincare. I’ve even claimed to spend any amount of money on my skincare simply because I believe healthy skin is worth the investment.

I’m a wee bit late in posting it but last month’s challenge of my Eucerin Healthy Skin challenge was to encourage you beautiful people to take the Eucerin Skin First Pledge. What’s this pledge all about?

By taking the pledge, you are…

  • Choosing to put the health of your skin first.
  • Pledging to protect and defend your skin.
  • Making skincare a priority for yourself, your family and friends.
  • Deciding to treat your skincare more like healthcare.

I’ve already taken the pledge and you can do so as well by visiting EucerinUS.com and Eucerin’s Facebook page. I promise it shouldn’t take you more than 30 seconds. If that!

Yay for making healthy and beautiful skin a priority!
