Beauty Reads: The Beauty Detox Foods

Beauty Detox Foods

A true beauty lover doesn’t just play in makeup and beauty products. She reads about them too, darlings. And not just in magazines either. The oh so popular Kimberly Synder (celebrity nutritionist and author) is back with another book to follow up her The Beauty Detox Solution book. Check it out…

I received a copy of this book to check out and while I thought it would be a bit gimmicky and full of obvious stuff, I am so happy to see practical suggestions and recipes in this book. No, seriously. The recommendations are totally up my alley.

Beauty Detox Foods Book

The overwhelming theme behind the book is simple: eat better foods and your skin and body will thank you. Bam. That’s it. And while that seems obvious when you think about it, Kimberly points out what the good foods do for you and why adding them to your diet is beneficial.

She also talks about the not so good additions in our diets – mostly meats, dairy and wheat. To each his or her own and while not everyone wants to lead a vegetarian, vegan or gluten-free life, Kimberly has recipes that omit meat, dairy and wheat and incorporating those once in one’s diet from time to time doesn’t seem too bad.

The Beauty Detox Foods by Kimberly Synder

Although, I am totally down with the dairy-free thing. I’ve been dairy-free for almost 5 months now and while I soooo miss cheese, my tummy and I both now I am better without it.

My favorite part of the book? Reading about Kim’s love of green smoothies.

The Beauty Detox Foods

I’ve been talking about green smoothies for years now. I had the biggest aversion to them while pregnant but I am so making up for lost time. Between the recipes and insight on how helpful different fruits and veggies can be on your skin and overall heath, I’ve been lovin’ Kimberly’s newest book. It has a nice spot in my beauty resources section.

Have you folx checked out this book? Whatcha think?

Question of the Week:

When it comes to grooming the brows, what’s your preference? Wax, tweeze or thread?

B says, “I’m a threading gal. And threading huuuuurts but I love how my brows look after doing it. I then thread ‘em to maintain the look for a few weeks.”

How ’bout you? Wax, tweeze or thread?

Want white teeth? Of course you do!

It’s confession time. Are you ready for this one? Okay. Here goes. I haven’t been to the dentist in over a year. I’ve always been a stickler about dental health so my not going is like…a big deal. The good news is, I’ve already set an appointment with my dentist. I know I’ve got a cavity or two so I’m already prepared to hear the tongue lashing. I got this tube of Colgate Optic White Dual Action toothpaste to review and while my dentist may chew me out over my cavities, she’ll be super impressed with my pearly whites.

Colgate Optic White Dual Action toothpaste

It’s been awhile since I’ve tried out a new toothpaste so I was excited about this one. Like the original Colgate Optic White, this toothpaste promises to make your whiter in just 1 week. But not only that, it also promises to keep those teeth shiny. Shiny white teeth? Sign me up!

Colgate Optic White Dual Action toothpaste tube

I probably won’t ever do professional dental whitening or bleaching (just doesn’t seem safe somehow…) so whitening toothpastes are the closest I will get to super white and bright teeth. Colgate’s Optic White is one of my favorite on the market because I feel like it keeps my teeth white and freshens my breath. I’ve tried some of those toothpastes that claim they’ll brighten and freshen but they are usually lacking in one of the departments. And I really like the Crystal Mint flavor of this toothpaste. It’s refreshing and long-lasting. Ah yessss. Toothpaste rocks.

And like most toothpastes, you can get a tube of this at your local drugstore or at Target or Walmart. If your beautiful smile is in need of some brightenin’, I say give this stuff a try.

Do you whiten your teeth?

Guest Post of the Week, as chosen by Gouldylox Reviews – I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. I love Hair Romance. Although I don’t know Christina, her blog is one of my all time favorites. Almost everything I’ve learned about long hair styling (in the one year I’ve had hair long enough to work with), I’ve learned from her. Did I mention I like this blog?

Question of the Week:

When it comes to lipstick, what’s your go-to finish
(shimmer, creme, satin, matte, etc.) and why are you drawn to that particular finish?

B says, “I’m a creme girl. They happen to be the most moisturizing and easiest to apply in a pinch. If I have time, I’ll mess around with mattes and shimmers are okay but I don’t wear them often.”

What’s your favorite kind of lippie finish?
