Question of the Week:

Do you think cosmetic ads should have a disclaimer if
they use excessive photoshop, false lashes and such?

B says, “Absolutely!! I’ve seen some mascara ads actually say that false lashes were used and I’m all like, “Wait…I have to use false lashes to get those results?” What crock!”

What do you think?

Armitron Watch Giveaway!

Wellllllll, it’s a new year and yours truly needed to step her game up in the watch department. I used to be obsessed with watches, y’all. I mean seriously obsessed. But I go through phases with watches. One minute I need to haul every single one that I see and the next I’m all like, “Whatever…I don’t need to wear a watch today.” Armitron has reeled me back into my obsession and I’m glad because watches really do complete a look.

DSC_5325

Esposo is a watch guy so he was all kinds of giddy about getting the opportunity to test drive this baby.

DSC_5311

These pieces are the newest from Armitron’s Spring 2013 collection. We’ll rap on Esposo’s watch first.

DSC_5313

DSC_5314

Retailing for only $33, I like this watch because it’s nice enough to dress up and dress down. Because Esposo works in a pretty active field, he prefers watches that are pretty durable and can take a beating and still keep on tickin’. The blue face makes it wearable and the bling gives it a nice added touch of class.

And then there’s this gorgeous rose gold watch

DSC_5317

I’ve had my fair share of watches but I’ve never owned a rose gold one. I’m a silver lovin’ gal and can get pretty stuck in my ways but ZOMG, I think I’m starting to love rose gold.

DSC_5321

A bit on the fancier side, this is the kind of watch that I’d only want to wear for date nights, church, special events or Girl’s Night Out. I find it far too gorgeous to wear every day. It retails for $60 so it’s not too much of a wallet breaker.

DSC_5329

The best thing about Armitron watches is that they are afforable and durable. Both of the watches retail for under $75 which ain’t too shabby if you are looking to step up your watch game. And because I love y’all, I’ve decided to give away a his and her watch set.

One lucky winner will win the following:

Makeup Wars: 5 Beauty Resolutions

DSC_5343

Well y’all…it’s time to hold my self accountable. And doing a blog post about beauty resolutions is the BEST way to do it. And when I screw up, I want you guys to let me know, mkay. That’s what beauty friends are for. Okay. Sooooo…here we go.

Clean my makeup brushes regularly.

I’m not even going to tell you how often I DON’T clean my brushes. You’ll judge me. And it would be okay because I’d judge me too. So yeah, I vow to rinse those brushes off more often.

Create a better makeup storage situation.

My makeup storage is all over the place. I’ve got my everyday products that I have in a crate in my bathroom and then I’ve got more stuff allllll over the place in my beauty room. My nail polishes are housed beautifully but everything else is all kinds of messed up. This is why I need The Container Store to hurry up and open here in Orlando. Fo reals.

Learn how to maintain my brows.

It’s a well known fact that I’m a low maintenance brow gal. Unapologetically so. I have no desire to invest 5-10 minutes drawing, filling in and sculpting my brows. I like them naturally crazy and bushy. BUT – let’s not pretend that great brows can transform a look. I need to find products that will help my brows look more polished while making sure they don’t look too drawn-on and stenciled.

Teach at least 3 beauty classes for pre-teens and teens.

…and not a “This is how you put on makeup class.” but I want to share with them the importance of taking care of their skin and how they really DON’T need makeup. And if they do want to wear makeup, I’ll suggest age-appropriate products and shades. I didn’t teach any beauty classes last year but did so quite frequently in 2011. Plus, I loooove community outreach.

Read more international beauty blogs and websites.

Beauty is universal and as an editor, I want to stay up on the latest and greatest worldwide. I read a few beauty blogs outside of the U.S., but I want to read and connect with more bloggers. And then I want to feature them on Clumps and be featured on their sites. It’s like beauty penpal-ing!

I could add a dozen more to the list but I do so much better with small monthly and quarterly goals, ya know? Do you have any beauty resolutions for the New Year? Buy more? Buy less? Tell meeeee! Oh, and in the meantime, check out the beauty resolutions of my fellow Makeup Wars sisters…

Guest Post of the Week, as chosen by Vampy Varnish – I chose Chalkboard Nails and her amazing black spotted and neon abstract nails as my guest post this week because I think she’s amazingly talented, and this is a super cool look!

Question of the Week:

What’s your least expensive yet most effective beauty tip/product?

B says, “You don’t need to spend a ton of money on makeup brushes. Brands like EcoTools and Real Techniques have amaziiiiing brushes for both beauty beginners and professionals. And they are super affordable too!”

What about you? Got any tips to share?

Coming soon – awesome beauty goodies from CVS Beauty!

Ohmigoodness gals (and the 3 guys that read Clumps)! I am beyoooond excited about the cool things coming soon to CVS Beauty aisles. 2013 is going to bring so many awesome beauty products and CVS Beauty gave me a sneak peek of that with this box…

DSC_4936

Brace yourself for this, y’all. Many of these products won’t hit drugstore shelves until early 2013. But hey, if you’ve managed to already catch ‘em at your stores, then you are one lucky ducky.

DSC_4938

Looks like L’Oreal will be giving us a new mascara. You know I can’t wait to test that baby out.

DSC_4939

I’m not familiar with this brand or Hair Chalk in general, but it sounds interesting…

DSC_4940

COVERGIRL has their version of jumbo lightweight lip pencils. Weeeee!

DSC_4941

In the skincare department, Neutrogena Naturals has a new scrub specifically for acne and the awesomeness is that is Salma Hayek has a new hand cream.

DSC_4946

I think I’ve tried Organix once or twice and even though I’m a hair product snob, I think these products may actually work for my hair type. Plus, they’re sulfate-free!

DSC_4947

Revlon has pretty new pigmented lip balms.

DSC_4948-001

And speaking of lip balms, I have been looooving Maybelline’s Color Whisper lipsticks.

DSC_4949

Pretty, right? They are most like Revlon’s Lip Butters. And speaking of Maybelline, they have a new mascara…

DSC_4950

Of course I’ll be reviewing that baby soon.

DSC_4951

We’re going to see some goodies in the nail world…

DSC_4952

…we’re going to see more in the anti-aging skincare department.

DSC_4954

…as well as more BB creams.

DSC_4956

And Olay has a cool “Powered Contour Cleansing System”.

So yeah. That’s just a liiiiiittle peek at what we can expect to see from some of our favorite drugstore brands. I am always super excited when it comes to the new year because I know brands are really going to try and WOW us. Stay tuned for reviews of some of these goodies.

Have you seen any of these products in stores yet? What are you most looking forward to?

10 Reasons Why 2012 rocked

DSC_0452

If you ever wanna know just every characteristic about me, read the definition of a Capricorn. I’m not even lyin’. Every bit of those horoscope descriptions describe me to a tee. It’s weird. They say that Capricorns have the tendency to be negative and yeah, I can definitely a be “glass is half full” type person every now and then but when it comes to analyzing an entire year, I could never label an entire year as BAD.

Seriously – how can people say things like “2012 sucked”? Wait. The ENTIRE year sucked? Every minute? Every day? Every month? What about that whole “You woke up every day.”-thing. Doesn’t that matter?  Yeah. I don’t get it. Life is precious and even if it isn’t perfect, I value it. And I appreciate it because I know in a split second it could be gone.

So here’s why 2012 rocked for me…

 I was physically active

Before I got pregnant, I was at the gym 4-5 times a week. I was running without stopping, lifting 30 lb weights and yoga-ifying my life. I’m not sure how much weight I lost but I just FELT good. 2013 will bring new challenges with my post-baby body but I can’t wait to get active again and train for a 5K and maybe even a 10K.

Esposo and I moved into our own place.

We didn’t do that whole shacking up thing before we got married (because I’m old-fashioned like that) so it was tough having to consolidate everything and learn how to live together. But hey, I think we’re doing okay now. What I really mean is: As long as the house is immaculately  clean at all times, Esposo gets to live.

I held 4 ambassador positions.

Being a blogger isn’t enough for me. I’ve invested 5 years in this business and want to be considered an authority in the beauty arena and the highest level of that (at least in my book) is being asked to directly represent a brand. It’s an honor and one that I don’t take lightly.

I got pregnant.

I always had these “What if I can’t get pregnant?” fears and my gynecologist’s “Get knocked up before 30 or else…” scare tactics did nothing to ease those fears. Baby Clumps’ existence is just a miracle and I am so blessed to be her mommy. Some women dream about being a mom. Others could care less. I’ve always sat comfortably in the middle but I think I am the type of woman that Baby Clumps can be proud of.

I landed on 2 beauty in-store displays in Walgreens and Target.

Seeing my name and picture online is cool. But seeing it IN a store is nothing short of amazing.

I was financially savvy.

I not only paid off 1 credit card but consolidated another and I’m on a road to become debt-free. I cut my spending tremendously. I may have spent under $200 on random things for myself. I’ll probably be paying Sallie Mae forever though. Ugh. Whatever.

My marriage flourished.

Okay, we’re not perfect. We argue but I promise you – we’ve never been mad at each other for more than an hour. We’re learning how to be better people and a better couple. It’s been a tough road but it has been so so sooooo fun.

I was never bored.

The last time I was bored, I was like…7 years old. 2012 had me crazy productive. I probably worked a bit TOO much but I have the type of personality where if I’m not swamped in work, I feel inadequate.

I spoke at The Makeup Show Orlando.

That was cool stuff. It wasn’t my first speaking engagement but it was pretty darn cool to speak about what I love most in the city that I live in.

I tried.

Which is all anyone can do in life, right? I put my best foot forward in several areas of my life and even if things didn’t turn out the way I wanted them to, I can go to bed tonight and know that…I tried.

2013 will be better though. Because I said so. Thanks for hangin’ out with me this year. Let’s reconvene in 2013, uh?

Oh…and what made your 2012 awesome? Please brag about your awesomeness.
