Makeup Wars: 5 Beauty Resolutions

DSC_5343

Well y’all…it’s time to hold my self accountable. And doing a blog post about beauty resolutions is the BEST way to do it. And when I screw up, I want you guys to let me know, mkay. That’s what beauty friends are for. Okay. Sooooo…here we go.

Clean my makeup brushes regularly.

I’m not even going to tell you how often I DON’T clean my brushes. You’ll judge me. And it would be okay because I’d judge me too. So yeah, I vow to rinse those brushes off more often.

Create a better makeup storage situation.

My makeup storage is all over the place. I’ve got my everyday products that I have in a crate in my bathroom and then I’ve got more stuff allllll over the place in my beauty room. My nail polishes are housed beautifully but everything else is all kinds of messed up. This is why I need The Container Store to hurry up and open here in Orlando. Fo reals.

Learn how to maintain my brows.

It’s a well known fact that I’m a low maintenance brow gal. Unapologetically so. I have no desire to invest 5-10 minutes drawing, filling in and sculpting my brows. I like them naturally crazy and bushy. BUT – let’s not pretend that great brows can transform a look. I need to find products that will help my brows look more polished while making sure they don’t look too drawn-on and stenciled.

Teach at least 3 beauty classes for pre-teens and teens.

…and not a “This is how you put on makeup class.” but I want to share with them the importance of taking care of their skin and how they really DON’T need makeup. And if they do want to wear makeup, I’ll suggest age-appropriate products and shades. I didn’t teach any beauty classes last year but did so quite frequently in 2011. Plus, I loooove community outreach.

Read more international beauty blogs and websites.

Beauty is universal and as an editor, I want to stay up on the latest and greatest worldwide. I read a few beauty blogs outside of the U.S., but I want to read and connect with more bloggers. And then I want to feature them on Clumps and be featured on their sites. It’s like beauty penpal-ing!

I could add a dozen more to the list but I do so much better with small monthly and quarterly goals, ya know? Do you have any beauty resolutions for the New Year? Buy more? Buy less? Tell meeeee! Oh, and in the meantime, check out the beauty resolutions of my fellow Makeup Wars sisters…

In the skincare department, Neutrogena Naturals has a new scrub specifically for acne and the awesomeness is that is Salma Hayek has a new hand cream.

Revlon has pretty new pigmented lip balms.

DSC_4948-001

And speaking of lip balms, I have been looooving Maybelline’s Color Whisper lipsticks.

10 Reasons Why 2012 rocked

DSC_0452

If you ever wanna know just every characteristic about me, read the definition of a Capricorn. I’m not even lyin’. Every bit of those horoscope descriptions describe me to a tee. It’s weird. They say that Capricorns have the tendency to be negative and yeah, I can definitely a be “glass is half full” type person every now and then but when it comes to analyzing an entire year, I could never label an entire year as BAD.

Seriously – how can people say things like “2012 sucked”? Wait. The ENTIRE year sucked? Every minute? Every day? Every month? What about that whole “You woke up every day.”-thing. Doesn’t that matter?  Yeah. I don’t get it. Life is precious and even if it isn’t perfect, I value it. And I appreciate it because I know in a split second it could be gone.

So here’s why 2012 rocked for me…

 I was physically active

Before I got pregnant, I was at the gym 4-5 times a week. I was running without stopping, lifting 30 lb weights and yoga-ifying my life. I’m not sure how much weight I lost but I just FELT good. 2013 will bring new challenges with my post-baby body but I can’t wait to get active again and train for a 5K and maybe even a 10K.

Esposo and I moved into our own place.

We didn’t do that whole shacking up thing before we got married (because I’m old-fashioned like that) so it was tough having to consolidate everything and learn how to live together. But hey, I think we’re doing okay now. What I really mean is: As long as the house is immaculately  clean at all times, Esposo gets to live. 😀

I held 4 ambassador positions.

Being a blogger isn’t enough for me. I’ve invested 5 years in this business and want to be considered an authority in the beauty arena and the highest level of that (at least in my book) is being asked to directly represent a brand. It’s an honor and one that I don’t take lightly.

I got pregnant.

I always had these “What if I can’t get pregnant?” fears and my gynecologist’s “Get knocked up before 30 or else…” scare tactics did nothing to ease those fears. Baby Clumps’ existence is just a miracle and I am so blessed to be her mommy. Some women dream about being a mom. Others could care less. I’ve always sat comfortably in the middle but I think I am the type of woman that Baby Clumps can be proud of.

I landed on 2 beauty in-store displays in Walgreens and Target.

Seeing my name and picture online is cool. But seeing it IN a store is nothing short of amazing.

I was financially savvy.

I not only paid off 1 credit card but consolidated another and I’m on a road to become debt-free. I cut my spending tremendously. I may have spent under $200 on random things for myself. I’ll probably be paying Sallie Mae forever though. Ugh. Whatever.

My marriage flourished.

Okay, we’re not perfect. We argue but I promise you – we’ve never been mad at each other for more than an hour. We’re learning how to be better people and a better couple. It’s been a tough road but it has been so so sooooo fun.

I was never bored.

The last time I was bored, I was like…7 years old. 2012 had me crazy productive. I probably worked a bit TOO much but I have the type of personality where if I’m not swamped in work, I feel inadequate.

I spoke at The Makeup Show Orlando.

That was cool stuff. It wasn’t my first speaking engagement but it was pretty darn cool to speak about what I love most in the city that I live in.

I tried.

Which is all anyone can do in life, right? I put my best foot forward in several areas of my life and even if things didn’t turn out the way I wanted them to, I can go to bed tonight and know that…I tried.

2013 will be better though. Because I said so. 😎 Thanks for hangin’ out with me this year. Let’s reconvene in 2013, uh?

Oh…and what made your 2012 awesome? Please brag about your awesomeness.

Question of the Week:

Do you have any beauty resolutions that you’ll
be making for 2013? Or anything you just want to improve/avoid/get better at this year when it comes to beauty?

B says, “I  am really going to try to do more videos for my YouTube channel. I’m also going to play around with lashes a bit more.”

What about you? Anything you finally want to get down in 2013 when it comes to beauty?

Lilly Brush – The coolest lint brush in town

LillyBrush3

Wellllls, there’s a first time for everything and I never thought I’d be reviewing a lint brush on my beauty blog. But whatev. My goal is to share awesome stuff that I come across and doggone it, if it happens to be a lint brush then so be it.

So about this lint brush…

LillyBrush4

It’s pretty freaking awesome, y’all. I’m not even playing. It obviously HAS to be good in order for me to write an entire post about it. I’ve decided to be a bit of a grown-up and take better care of my laundry. I only use homemade or all-natural detergents (mainly due to my skin allergies) and I stopped using dryer sheets. I want my clothes to continue to look good after 5 washes and let’s face it, sometimes shirts ‘n stuff go south after only one wash.

Case in point…

LillyBrush2

I’ve only worn this shirt a good 5 times or so and there’s no reason why it should be all fuzzy wuzzy already. The good ole’ Lilly Brush is saving the day. Keep your eyes on the gray stripe.

Lilly Brush

I know, right? It’s like magic yo. There’s a bajillion lint brushes on the market so what makes Lily Brush different? Well, for one it’s portable. I can toss this in my purse or luggage and be on my merry way. I also love that it’s effective at removing pet hair. My dog (you know…the one that hates me) is white and while she doesn’t shed much, I’ll still spot a white hair on my black dress pants every now and then.

POW. Gone. And I find that it’s easier to remove the fuzzy wuzzy than when I use an actual sticky lint brush or razor. Oh. And that whole removing lint using a razor idea is bad because over time it seems to just make your clothes thinner. Not cool, bro. Lilly Brush works on a number of fabrics and can easily be cleaned with a simple rinse of water.

LillyBrush5

I know. You’re impressed. And you’re probably all like, “This is such a random post, B but I totally need this.”

Cost: $12.99
Where To Buy: Either online here or at select retailers.

Admit it. You think the Lilly Brush is pretty cool, uh?
