10 Things You Should Get From Sephora’s Friends & Family sale

You know what time it is! It’s time for Sephora’s Friends & Family online sale. Wooo hoooo! Beauty junkies everywhere wait all year for this sale. In fact, cheap guys and gals like me don’t make large purchases UNTIL this sale arrives. And to be quite honest, you should be that way about everything. Seriously.

If you don’t have a coupon for an item, don’t even get it. Like…fo reals.

Sephora’s F&F is working a little differently this year in that you have to go to this Sephora link and enter your email addy to get your unique sale code. After submitting my email, I got my code within minutes. This code is for online purchases only. Keep in mind that this is a 1-time use code and only valid in the U.S.

That last part sucks majorly, I know. If you’re stuck on what to get, I am here to help. Check out 10 of my favorite Sephora products.

1. Clarisonic Mia. Um, yahhhh. I purchased my Mia during a sale and while it was a bit pricey, this is one purchase that I do NOT regret making. If you’ve got the money and want to hook your skin up with something nice, get the Mia. Check out my complete review of it here. And ohmigoodness, that Jaguar Mia is the coolest looking one yet. Of course, I want it.

2. Fairy Drops ScandalQueen mascara. I absolutely LOVED this mascara and consider it to be one of my favorites. I gave it high marks for a good reason. 8)

3. Graffiti Hello Kitty brush set. I’ve been coveting that thing for quite some time now. And not only can get it for the low low with the discount, but it is now $25. Woo hooo!

4. Boscia’s Clarifying Detox mask has been a staple in my beauty routine for weeks now. If your skin needs some boosting in, get this mask. Fast.

5. Make Up For Ever’s #92 eyeshadow. You can’t call yourself an eyeshadow lover if you don’t own (and absolutely obsess over) this kid. Known as one of the most fantastical eyeshadows ever in the history of makeup, #92 should be an absoute staple in your collection.

6.  Nails, Inc.’s magnetic polishes. Yes, they are super expensive regularly priced, but this discount can make purchasing a lot less painless. I plan on scooping some up myself. Want to know what magnetic nail polish looks like? Check this out.

7.Fresh’s lip balm.  Remember the post I did on how much I looooove them. Not only can you save on that but they have darling gift sets that retails for less than $30. Ooooh yeah!

8. Lancome Bi-facil makeup remover? What in the world would I do without it? I made the mistake of trying a similar product and my eyes burned for days. Maybe not days, but put it this way…I will never stop using Bi-facil. That said, while it’s pricey, get it for the low low with the discount!

9.  Carol’s Daughter’s Rosemary Mint Clarifying Sulfate-Free Shampoo. I know I save all of my hair talk for Loc Rocker, but if you’re in need of a wonderful and purifying shampoo, check out  this baby. Aside from loving the combination, this is one fantastic shampoo for us dry hair’d folx. Oh, and Carol’s Daughter’s packaging changes? Loves it!

10. Hourglass Film Noir Lash Lacquer. Dang. I just LOVE saying “Noir”. It sound all fancy ‘n ish. So yeah. I haven’t reviewed this yet but beat me to it. This top coat for lashes is effing amazing. And I’ll save the rest of my thoughts for the formal review.

Got your eyes on anything at Sephora?

This wasn’t an official Lipstick League question but I wanted to throw it out there anyway. Tell me…who makes your favorite mascara?

See you next week!

Tagged! This or That? My Beauty Preferences

Soooo, I was tagged by the ever so wonderful Cosmetic Passion and Married 2 Makeup. I won’t even tell y’all how long ago they tagged me because that would be embarrassing. Ha! I haven’t done one of these in so long so I am super excited. Yay! Let’s gooooo….

1. BLUSH or BRONZER?
Bronzer– For the most part, it’s hard to mess up and it gives my skin the perfect glow without much effort. I usually wear tarte’s Hotel Heiress daily.

2. LIPSTICK or LIP GLOSS?
Lipstick
– How about lip balms? Those are my true BFF’s! But if I really had to choose, I’d say lipsticks because of their staying power and their ability to change colors with the addition of a lipliner or gloss. But I will only rock a lipstick with a lip balm underneath.

3. EYELINER or MASCARA?

Eyeliner– I know…y’all are like, how can this be? Yes, yours truly prefers eyeliners over mascaras. Eyeliners are great at making me look awake. Without the definition they give me, I look like a corpse. No lie. I may leave the house without mascara on, but leaving the house without eyeliner hardly ever happens.

4. FOUNDATION or CONCEALER?
Concealer
– It is a well known fact that I am not a foundation wearer. Because of  my acne prone skin, less is more and I find regular use of foundation can be rather skin-clogging. I’d rather rock a concealer that matches my complexion (shout out to CoverFX!), put on the areas that need concealing and dust a powder all over. Easy peasy.

5. NEUTRAL or COLOR EYESHADOW?
Neutral– Don’t get me wrong, I love super bright eyeshadow looks but my personality is much more neutral these days. My POW comes in the form of outrageously bright lippies. 8)

6. LOOSE or PRESSED EYESHADOW?
Pressed – Loose shadows are too messy.

7. BRUSHES or SPONGES?

BrushesecoTools have the best!

Who do I tag? You! What are your favorites?

Makeup artist Rondell Johnson goes on tour!

Makeup artists and aspiring makeup artists, where are youuuuu? If you’re looking to attend a beauty event that caters to your desire to learn more about all areas of beauty, I’ve got something for you. Talented makeup artist and educator, Rondell Johnson has been hitting the road to educate aspiring and professional makeup artists. He’ll be instructing two classes:

Professional Makeup Artist

The “Professional Makeup Artist” Workshop is all about makeup and how it relates to photography. In this workshop, students will first watch my application as I explain what my approach on makeup customized for photography is. The student will learn and understand what ingredients do and don’t photograph well, color theory, what textures you should work with when doing a photo shoot, film, media, etc. how to effectively accentuate your client/model’s feature in photography and ultimately, perform to deliver results that are raw, and unedited.

Women of Color Master Class

The “Women of Color Master Class” conveys to the student the all of the aspects of makeup customized for Hispanic, Mediterranean, Latin, African, Mexican, Central American, Indian, and many other ethnic women of color. Training consists of skincare assessment, color theory of skin, the creative breakdown of foundation, eye brow enhancement, blush and how it relates to the foundational process, lip care and different lip finishes, and how to effectively create a balance with precise application.

The tour is a nationwide tour that will go on for as long as students are registering. He’s already hit up Washington, DC and Suffolk, Virginia. Where will be go next?

New York City, New York on October 23rd, 2011
Jacksonville, FL on October 30th.

Atlanta, GA and Chicago, IL are very soon to follow. The class in these areas will be “Women of Color Master Class”. For more information about Rondell and his classes, visit RJohnBeauty.com. Oh! And if you follow him on Twitter, tell him B sent you.

Ridin’, flyin’ and electric slidin’ with my portable DVD player

I be ridin’ dirty.

I really shouldn’t even play like that considering the song is anything about riding around in a car with a Hello Kitty sticker on it. But I do ride a lot. I usually fly a lot too but this year I haven’t been as active with my airport hoppin’. Either way, when it comes to entertainment on the road, plane or train…I pretty much need it. When my cell phone dies and laptop is too heavy to tote with me, I’ve got an entertainment babe that weighs less than my MacBook.

Ta da! It’s a portable DVD player. Why am I just now getting this thing? I mean, honestly…I should have gotten one a long time ago. Besides being super practical, they’re just fun! Especially if you’re riding with kiddies.

The only kiddies in my life would be my fairy godchildren and I’m super excited that I can entertain them while in transit. Retailing for $139.99, I found the Audiovox Swivel Screen Portable DVD Player to be a great buy, especially if you plan on hitting the road this holiday season.

Pro’s
-The swivel screen is great for viewing on a sturdy surface.
-The 2 headphones and headphone spitter is ideal for sharing.
-You don’t have to buy additional accessories as the headrest mount & car bag come with purchase.
-It takes no time to go from headrest mount to carrying case.
-The price point is good for those who don’t want to spend hundreds on tablets but don’t want to drain their phones’ batteries watching movies.

Con’s
-I do wish the volume was a little louder. Then again, I may have blown my ear drums years ago.
-No BluRay DVD compatibility. That means it simply won’t play any BluRay DVDs.
-Battery life is only 4 hours. If you’ve got a car cigarette lighter or AC plug, you’re covered. But if you’re stuck on a plane ride that is more than 4 hours, you’re in trouble.
-The screen resolution is just okay. It’s not striking or fancy.

Did I mention that I love the accessories that come with the DVD player?

For more information, check out Audiovox and get your shoppin’ on at Amazon. Oh, and what did electric slidin’ have to do with this DVD player? Nothing really. It just rhymed with ridin’ and flyin’. 😉

See you next week!

Question of the Week:

What eyeshadow in your stash do you

currently reach for the most?

B says, “NARS Nepal eyeshadow. I’ve been wearing that shadow for years. Because I’ve got like a 3 mile long space from my lower lashline to my brow, I have to use a middle color between my crease and highlight. That color is NARS Nepal. It compliments my complexion and always fits beautifully with whatever look I’m going for. Next up would be NARS Albatross. I usually always use that under my browbone.”

What’s your favoritiest eyeshadow color?

See you next week!
