Green Beauty: SJ Creations Pure Body Organics

As promised, a majority of the body care products that I review on Clumps will be from brands that include organic ingredients, and are free of sulfates and all of the other harsh additives that some products may have. I mean, don’t get me wrong. I think you should use whatever floats your boat. But these days, with my skin acting the way it does, I HAVE to use products that are not only nourishing but gentle. And it just so happens that the majority of these products are natural.

I have been LOVING  Pure Body Organics’ body lotion in lavender. And here’s why…

Marie Deneen: Lippies and Lotion

Let me introduce you to Marie Deneen; a brand whose motto is Providing Nature’s Goodness With Style. A few months ago, I was given the opportunity to test drive some lippies and lotions from the them. Gotta love a brand that contributes to West African projects and Jamaican education programs, right? Founder Rashida Morgan-Brown not only has a passion for giving back but also likes to include natural ingredients in her products.

Perhaps that’s why Marie Deneen has recently been featured in Essence Magazine and People Magazine. Holla!

Let’s rap on the lippies first. I tried three of the Shea Lips.

JASON PowerSmile Cinnamon Mint Toothpaste

I know what’ you’re thinking. You’re probably like, “Really B? This is a beauty blog. Who cares about toothpaste?”

Um, you should if you intend on keeping those pearly whites white and healthy. Mama Clumps has been on the natural toothpaste tip for while and it wasn’t until recently when I decided to give it a whirl.

But was it a winner or was my grill too used to traditional toothpastes to keep giving the PowerSmile a try?

Do you use essential oils?

Have I told y’all how much I LOVE essential oils? Mama Clumps started it. What you see are just the ones that I use regularly. Mama Clumps is lucky that I don’t live with her. I’d be snagging her 100+ essential oils collection religiously.

But alas, it requires a small fortune to build a hefty collection. Which oils do you use? I use Peppermint just about everyday. It’s in a spray bottle of water that I spritz all over my hair. I also use that and lavendar oil for when I wash clothes. And of course it makes for a perfect aromatherapy blend as well as making natural skincare products.

Oh, and I wouldn’t feel right if I didn’t place a disclaimer. Essential oils  should NOT be applied directly to the skin without carrier oils. Tea tree and lavender oils are the only exceptions.  Mama Clumps has most, if not all, of those too.

I’m so jealous.

Drop your favorite essential oils and their uses! And should you or should you not store eau de toilette in medicine cabinet?

Beauty Review: Dial Nutriskin Body Wash

Boy, I tell ya…Dial is certainly steppin’ their games up in the body wash department. For quite some time, whenever I thought of Dial, I thought of a golden bar of soap. Who knew that they would start cranking out body washes that leave the skin cleansed and silky smooth?

The concept behind this body wash is that it is to leave your skin feeling moisturized AND light. And how do they do this, you ask? With Fruit Oil.

By using a combination of hydrating fruit oils and soothing extracts, these body washes give you that cleansed feeling without feeling greasy. You know what I’m talkin’ about, don’t you, girlfriend? After you rinse, some body washes just leave you with an icky and greasy feeling. No me gusta.

I’ve never experienced this kind of feeling with a body wash that was not creamy. Talk about beating a misconception! I only thought creamy body washes could do that!

And do you see those itty bitty micro-beads?

The kid in me had to mash it up to see what it would do.

They baby beads are made up of fruit oils that provide deep moisturization. I can dig it! And the price is a steal to. You can get a 16-ounce bottle of the Grapeseed and Lemongrass (shown) or the Cherry Seed and Mint for only $3.99. Not bad at all!

If you’re looking to try a new body wash, hang up and dial…Dial! Go ahead and laugh…you know my joke was funny. HA!

Carol’s Daughter: Ecstacy Gel and Body Butter

How my family knows what products to get me as gifts is such a mystery to me. I don’t live with any of them so how do they know that I DON’T have this and have never tried that? It’s amazing, I tell ya! I got Carol’s Daughter Ecstacy Gel and Body Butter for Christmas ’09 and um, wow…

Is that a WOW-good or WOW-bad? Hit the jump to read on.

Ecstasy Shea Souflee

Price: 3 out of 5 ($13 from CarolsDaughter.com)
Packaging: 3 out of 5
Overall: 5 out of 5

What it claims:
“This luxurious formula is light and fluffy like a soufflé, but moisturizes skin with the intensity of a butter. It’s packed with natural butters and oils to effectively nourish and hydrate dry, parched skin for a soft and velvety appearance.

The perfect blend of succulent nectars shines throughout this fruit medley. Accented with Egyptian musk, precious amber, as vanilla bourbon completes this captivating fragrance.” (source)

The truth:
This stuff smells soooo sweet!

What I loved about it: I love the consistency. It is perfect for the winter time.

What I didn’t like:
The packaging isn’t too hot. When you have used up at least half of the souflee, you literally have to do a 3-finger reeeeach to get to the bottom of the pot.

Overall: I love love love it. The sweet smell is rather addicting. The souflee consistency does a great job at moisturizing even the driest skin. And the scent lasts all day. Loves it!

Next up….

Ecstasy Body Cleansing Gel

The truth:
Just as good as the souflee!

What I loved about it:  Hmmm…the smell! It smells like a baked apple pie drizzled with honey. Hmmm…

What I didn’t like:
N/A

Overall: By the time you will have read this review, I will be on my second bottle of this gel. First of all…it comes out of the bottle like honey. It isn’t sticky but looks like sweet nectar goodness. The gel consistency lathers well and rinses off easily leaving you with silky smooth skin.

I love love love this line. And so does every one else in the world because it seems to be sold out quite often on the Carol’s Daughter website. Anyone try anything from Carol’s Daughter Ecstasy line?

Natural Beauty: ONE hits Target

I just love how natural products and brands are becoming more widely available. AND affordable. I mean, two years ago you couldn’t find eco-friendly lip balms in your neighborhood Target.

Say hello to ONE.

ONE is brand that not only believes in healthy and natural formulations, but they also package their products in eco-friendly housing.

From the products that I tried, the skin conditioning bar ($6.49) is my favorite. It is full of lavender oil goodness but the packaging is also made from recyclable material.

I’m impressed at the relatively small ingredients list! The bar is amazing. It slathers on like a regular body butter but it isn’t greasy. And I love the fact that the smell isn’t too overpowering.

ONE also has hair products including solid shampoo and conditioner bars ($6.99).

Don’t judge its size. One of these is equivalent to three 8 oz bottles of shampoo. I haven’t tried it on my locs just yet but I will do a formal review soon.

We’ve covered body and hair so what could we be missing? Ah! Cosmetics, of course. ONE has lip butter balms ($2.99).

While I’m not the biggest fan of the scent, this shea butter based balm feels great on the lips without drying them out. The ingredients list makes me smile.

I’m lovin’ it! You can find ONE at any Target location.

Have you seen ONE in your Target yet?
