The Awesomeness That Is Katy Perry’s Killer Queen

Katy Perry Killer Queen fragrance

If  you know anything about me,  know that I love Katy Perry. In today’s music market you have so many people trying too hard. Katy Perry has raw natural talent and I appreciate that. I can put her music on when I am happy, sad and when I work out,  when I’m on a road trip and her music is. Katy Perry came out with her third perfume ,Killer Queen, in August and I am so excited that I received a sample to review.

Katy Perry Killer Queen perfume

So I know you’re reading this and saying “Of course YOU’LL love it, Courtney.” But really…it is actually a good perfume. I own Katy’s other perfumes, Meow and Purr, and Killer Queen is my favorite. It is a more adult perfume than the first two and has a nice floral scent. I love smelling good, but I have to be careful about what perfumes I use because I will get a migraine by the simplest smell. Killer Queen doesn’t give me a migraine at all. Aaaand, it lasts all day.

Katy Perry

Oh, and I have been getting compliments on how nice I smell which is always good. Of all the awesome things about the perfume, the bottle is my favorite. Katy Perry’s first two perfumes were in the shape of cats, but this bottle is fit for a queen. Classy, right?

A 3.4 oz bottle goes for $64 at Macy’s and most big department stores. Spring is coming up soon and it might be time to change your signature scent. Would you give Killer Queen a try?

Fragrances: LUSH knows Love and Cocktails

Have I told y’all how much of a fragrance snob I’ve become? I haven’t worn anything other than all-natural roll-on’s and solid perfumes all year. There’s just something about traditional fragrances. I don’t really like them anymore. They make my allergies go nuts and I just prefer lighter close to natural scents. Hence why I love my LUSH Gorilla perfumes.

Remember when I reviewed that bad boy Karma? Uh yeahhhhh. I am still in love with that fragrance. But wait, there are some new kids on the block.

LUSH has added 13 new scents to the Gorilla Perfume line-up and I’ve got my hands on two of ‘em.

Say hello to Love and Cocktail.

Love: With a name like Love, you’ve got expect a scent to smell good. Because if it doesn’t, you’re all like, “Love stinks” and well, that….that just ain’t good. Kudos to LUSH for giving Love justice. Literally. This fresh apple and cinnamon spice fragrance can fancy girly girls, manly men and everyone in between. I absolutely love this scent but The Guy didn’t think it would suit him too well. But whatever. What does he know anyway? 8) Love’s main notes Lemon, lemongrass, bergamot, apple, cinnamon, cassia, jasmine, rose, ylang ylang

Cocktail: The Guy, however, DID like Cocktail. “Now this,” he said. “Is better.” Cocktail certainly has a bit of bite to it. It is unique in its own right and its creation is an homage to traditional French 1930s perfumeries. It is a little on the stronger side for me but somehow…I still like it. It’s a floral fragrance with notes of ylang ylang, cananga, jasmine, rose, orange blossom, oakmoss and sandalwood.

I can’t wait to get my hands on some more of these fragrances. I’ve got Superworld Unknown and 1000 Kisses on my radar. Solid perfumes are so what’s hot when on the go.

You can toss ‘em in your purse, carry-on and bookbag. The solid perfumes retail for $12.95 but if you are more of a spritz-y guy or gal, LUSH has them in various sizes to suit your needs. But you can only snag ‘em  online here.

For my Miami beauties: Paco Rabanne One Million & Lady Million Consumer Fragrance event

While I have  yet to smell the fabulousness that is this fragrance, I have heard nothing but amazing things from guys and gals who have been honored to give it an official sniff test and wear. I know I am totally last minute in letting my favorite people in Miami know about this event but if you are able to hit up one of the events, please do so! Who knows what goodies and surprises may be in store?

Join Paco Rabanne fragrances for a surprise “gold rush” on Saturday, September 24th at the following locations:

Macy’s Westdade (19575 Biscayne Blvd) at 12:00pm
Macy’s Westdade (1405 NW 107th Ave) at 1:30pm
Macy’s Dadeland (7404 North Kendall Drive) at 3:15pm
Sephora Miami Beach (721 Collins Avenue) at 5:00pm

I’m in Orlando this weekend so I can’t make it. *tears* But if you do, I’d love to hear about it.

Yo, LUSH Karma solid perfume…I love you!

It’s been forever and a day since I’ve splurged on an actual perfume. My nose isn’t even attracted to them anymore. I am now a fan of fragrances that have more of natural and woodsy scent. Plus, I find that they are better for me health-wise. Traditional fragrances tend to mess with my allergies a bit. I didn’t WANT to purchase this solid perfume from LUSH. But alas, my favorite LUSH guy convinced me to…

I can’t even begin to tell you how much I LOVE this fragrance. If I could bottle my personality up in a scent, Karma would be it. It’s subtle but strong. It isn’t demanding but it leaves a mark. It lingers, it’s interesting and it definitely can’t be compared to any other scent. It’s original and unique. It has patchouli and citrus notes and I can see how many people don’t like it. It isn’t your average fragrance. And I think that’s why I love it so much.

The solid perfume is long-lasting and perfect for traveling. I’ve been using it for a month or so now and I’ve still got a big chunk left. Not bad for $9.95. And because many LUSH fans realize how awesome Karma is, it also comes in a body cream, bubble bar, body powder and soap. But I like it best on the wrists and on my neck. You know you want to try it. Snag it from the LUSH website or take a stroll to your neighborhood LUSH store.

Green Beauty: Lavanila healthy fragrance and body butter

I’ve had my eyes on Lavanila products for quite some time and I am so glad to finally be able to share them with y’all. But first, the etymological nerd that is me hasto tell you about the name LAVANILA. It comes from the country of Madagascar. Their native word for vanilla is lavanila. Apparently the best vanilla comes from the island of Madagascar. Pretty cool, uh?

The brand was started by Danielle Raynor and Laura DiGirolamo, both beauty lovers who were frustrated with the perfumes that aggravated their allergies.

And so together (with the help of chemists, of course) they birthed a healthy fragrance.

Call me crazy, but I wasn’t aware of all of the synthetic ingredients that were put into fragrances. It’s amazing how divine a fragrance can smell using Mother Earth’s treats.

The Healthy fragrances are come in 4 different scents and they are all formulated without

Parabens
- Sulfates
- Synthetic Fragrances
- Synthetic Dyes
- Petro-Chemicals
- Phthalates
- GMO
- Triclosan

Lavanilla Lavender has notes of vanilla, lavender, rose absolute and violet leaf. Mama Clumps would fall for this as she loves anything with lavender in it. A 1 oz bottle of eau de parfum spray will run you $38 and the 1.7 oz bottle goes for $58.  While the vanilla scent does seem to be a little overpowering, I will say that Lavanilla has turned me into a perfume snob. I don’t think I’ll be looking at mainstream fragrances the same.

And then there are their body butters.

Oh la laaaa….

I don’t usually pull out body butters until the weather gets cooler, but I’ve been making an exception for this kid.

These are perfect after a warm shower or bath as they melt right into your skin.

They are divine, I tell ya. Non-greasy and the scents last. And just like their big sister, they are formulated without all of the nasty stuffs.

The body butters also come in the same 4 scents as the fragrances. Retailing at $12 for a 2.75 bottle and $25 for a 8 oz bottle, I don’t think it’s a bad steal for my ladies who prefer to use products free of synthetic ingredients. And you have to be a lover of vanilla because all of fragrances and body butters have strong notes of it. I have never been the biggest fan of smelling like a cookie but it is starting grow on me.

Lavanila will see me again as I totally plan to try their healthy deodorant and healthy sunscreen. Loves it!

Have you tried any of their products? Whatcha think?

Beauty Review: YSL Parisienne perfume

Even as a little girl, I wanted to smell like like a grown woman.

I know…ain’t that somethin’? I was like 7 years old and would sneak in my Mom’s bathroom to spritz a little eau de parfum on my neck. YSL Parisienne reminds me of one of those fragrances that I would have used back in the day. Only now I’m twenty fo’ and I’m at the right perfume wearin’ age.

Introducing YSL’s Parisienne…

Parisienne is a floral fragrance that has hints of sandalwood and blackberry. I like it. I’m not sure how popular it would be among many chicas my age but it is definitely something that I can spritz on when I’m headed to church or to some luncheon. It makes me feel grown up.

Has anyone tried it? Love it? Hate it?

…and I know, fragrances don’t seem to last all that long on me either. I usually have to dab grapeseed oil my neck and wrists before spritzing. I find that it helps the scent last longer.

You can grab this fragrance from Sephora and Sephora.com. Find out more about it here.

Beauty Review: Harajuku Lovers Baby perfume

Hi my darlings!

I REALLY enjoyed Labor Day. It is amazing what an extra day in a weekend can do. I feel super renewed and ready to tackle the week! Woo-saahhh!!

Lately I have been playing around with fragrances. In the next few weeks, you will see a good 2-3 perfume reviews. What can I say? A sista likes to smell good, yo.

Check out what greeted me when I took a stroll to Ulta one fine weekend…..

Awww, how darling. Yes….I am a girly girl. I grew up with baby dolls and Barbies and pretty little trinkets. The packaging is right up my alley. Harajuku Lovers Baby looks like a pretty paper weight from far away, right? Nooooot…

What Ulta.com says about Harajuku Lovers,
“Harajuku Lovers Baby by Gwen Stefani is a powdery musk combined with freesia, bergamot, rose, jasmine, musk, heliotrope, vanilla and violet. Adorable, collectable figurine bottle tops represent Gwen and her backup singers.”

This is a different kind of scent for me but I love it. I am usually drawn to slightly muskier smells but Baby is sweet and I find it perfect for before bed.

Yes, I wear perfume to bed. Don’t laugh at me.

.3 oz for $30 isn’t that much of a stretch for me considering I never hit the bottom of my fragrances. Aaaand…at the time, Ulta had an amazing “Spend $30 on any fragrance and get a travel bag for free” deal. Y’all know me….always catchin’ some deal. Loves it!

I have a new fragrance and my Hello Kitty Easter egg has a new playmate.

And all is well with the world.

Have you tried any of the Harajuku Lovers fragrances?

What about Gwen Stefani’s L.A.M.B.? I totally love that one!
