The Makeup Show NYC, Installment 2-Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics

If there was one brand that truly caught my eye at The Makeup Show, it was Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics. I have heard about the brand before but didn’t know much about them.

I sent out a tweet about OCC and got a slew of responses; many in which were telling me to try the lip tar. And like a good blogger….I listen to the peoples!

Some quick tidbits about OCC:

-The line was born in November 2004.

-All of their products are 100% Vegan and Cruelty-Free, and are also free of parabens and other harsh preservatives.

-Their products are for professional make-up artists and make-up enthusiasts alike.

And if you’ve gotten this far and you’re wondering what makes them unique, check this out:

Wowsers! The loose colour concentrates ($10) are amazing. From the glitters to the mattes I find that they are all highly pigmented and ready for action in any way you choose to use them. Be it on the eyes, nails or on the body, giiiirl…you can best believe that you are getting a colorful piece of heaven.

I snagged Burning-described as a bright coral with subtle violet shimmer.

Stunning, right?

I saved the best for last. The Lip Tars ($12.50).

I think that everyone needs one of these. They are so much fun! And highly pigmented beyond belief. They are as pigmented as lipsticks but go on like lip glosses. You can try wearing these babies solo but they may scare you at first. Mix them with other glosses and you can create an array of beautiful lippy colors.

I know y’all are like, “B!! Where are the photos of the products on you?”

Relax my little blueberry shortcakes. I will definitely be incorporating these babies in upcoming FOTDs.

What do you think? A fan of OCC? Never heard of them? Wanna try?

Tell me!

Because even your personality should be pigmented,

The Makeup Show LA, Installment 3-Kissable Couture

Welcome back to another installment of my experience in Los Angeles for The Makeup Show LA. It seems like by the time I finish blogging about The Makeup Show LA, it will be time for The Makeup Show NYC. Which by the way…..I am SO excited about.

Soooo…..please tell me that you know about Kissable Couture glosses. Ohmigoodnessgracious, I have been lemming after these beautiful babies ever since I saw my girl Kia from Yummy411 review them.

Kissable Couture was one of the vendors at The Makeup Show LA. This lip gloss line started by the beautiful Keisha Whitaker (Actor Forest Whitaker’s wife) and A.J. Crimson, celebrity make-up artist.

These glosses are divine, family. From the look, to the smell, finish and consistency….I can say that I REALLY like them. The concept behind Kissable Couture is one that I absolutely adore. Treating yourself to one of these glosses is like giving yourself a gift.

I mean, just look at the packaging!

It’s funny how something so simple can give you so much joy.

How divine does Hyacinth , look?

This gloss is sheer yet pretty build-able. Its purple and magenta undertones look stunning when paired with a lip liner or layered on top of a lipstick. I can’t quit but my finger on what these glosses smell like….but I like it. Think coconutty cotton candy.

…..I amm so serious. That’s what they smells like!

I really tried to remain composure when meeting A.J. Crimson in the flesh, but my fellow blog sisters will tell you that I was anything but.

Gracias a Dios that A.J. was so flippin’ down to Earth. He chatted with us and told his thoughts on the newest gloss from Kissable Couture.

How does Peony look on me?

What a smashing pink! Perfect for Spring and perfect for all skintones.

Kissable Couture glosses retail at $22. Hey hey….I know that’s not a bargain buy but we all deserve the finer things in life every now and then, ay? You can buy them online and at select locations.

Have you tried any of these glosses?

You are the BEST,

Beauty Review: CoverGirl Outlast Lip Stain

Good day, family!

Before we get on with the review, just giving you a heads up of the new “review format”. Instead of just a looooong article with pictures about the products, I will now break it down much like the mascara review. Should make it a lot easier for you to decide if you are interested in the product or not. Okay?

OKAY!

Introducing….

CoverGirl’s Outlast Lip Stain

Price: 4 out of 5 (shouldn’t be more than $7)
Packaging: I haven’t decided if I really like using a pen for lip color application.
Overall: 3 out of 5

What it claims: “A lightweight flush of color that lasts for hours without the heavy look or feel of an ordinary lipstick.” (source)

The truth: Well shucks….that’s a pretty accurate claim.

What I loved about it:
It looks cool! Yall know I’m all about “innovative beauty”. Using products that don’t look like their previous predecessors is such fun to me. I liked the idea of using a marker-looking product to apply a lip color. I am a fan of lipstick stains so I knew that I would like this.

And look, Mom! It really does look like a marker!

CoverGirl gets a good 10 points in the smell/taste department. The pen has a pleasant smell and doesn’t turn my stomach upside down if I accidentally lick my lips.

I found that it DOES last for quite awhile. Will it last for 12 hours? Probably not….but I don’t keep lip colors on that long anyway so that’s not important to me. I found that it did well while drinking my 3 bottles of water over a span of 5 hours. I got 425 (not sure of the color) and it goes on pretty well…

What I didn’t like: My goodness, it’s drying!! This product will not work well if you already have dry chapped lips…which I think is a great deal of us with the winter season is full swing.

Okay, so what if I live in Florida….it got down to 40 degrees here a few days and my lips were feeling every bit of it! This product provides ZERO moisture. And should you decide to use a balm or chapstick under it, guess what? It will defeat the purpose of it being a stain. It will look like a regular ole’ gloss. Boooo….

Overall: So it’s not a bad product. But I find that it is really hard to work on my dry lips. And we won’t even talk about how unforgiving this is if you have some lines in your lippies. Oh man…..exhibit A.

Not baaaad but not good either.

I find that throwing a lip gloss on top alleviates the problem but then it looks like a regular gloss. Hmm….see the issue?

Would I recommend it?: Only if you have perfectly smooth lips that don’t need much moisture. If you are like me and have slight imperfections and suffer from dry lips, then this may not work so much. But it is still worth a try as it is a fun product to use!

Muuuuuuah,

Beauty Review: L’Oreal HiP’s Color Presso

Greetings gorgeous people!

If there is one thing I love….it’s innovative beauty. New ideas, concepts, technologically beauty operated stuffs and ultra cool packing. It excites me and shows that as the world progresses…so does the world of beauty!

L’Oreal HiP’s Color Presso thingies are like….so…totally cool!

I mean, look at it.

That’s Sally Hansen’s Night Lily on the nails, by the way

That’s a sexy lip gloss, uh? I purchased (782) Ritzy Color Presso from Wal-greens for $12.99. Now normally I wouldn’t purchase L’Oreal HiP regular price because drugstores usually have Buy 1, Get 1 sales but I just had to share this with my family….that would be yall.

ALERT: L’Oreal is on sale at CVS: Buy 1, Get 1 Free!! Check the ad here.

Per L’Oreal’s website:

“Grab Hold of Endless Color Combinations
Press one side for a single shade
Press two sides to mix and blend hundreds more
Press to Express”

Well, I don’t know about “hundreds” but I see what you’re gettin’ at, Lo HiP. This is such a cool product. The packaging is just so much fun. And look how funny it looks when you squeeze both tubes.

Ha! That just tickles me.

And you can even wear it as an accessory!

Okay, I’m kidding about that last bit but it’s one product that has endless uses. It is a little on the pricey side being a few dollars short of some higher end brands.

What I DON’T like about this product is that the gloss factor doesn’t last as long as I would like for it to. I’ve encountered this with many Lo HiP lip products. Granted this is better than most but it still is almost non-existent after an hour or so. Boo to that.

Check out my video review (warning: I’m a mess)

Actually, L’Oreal HiP has a ton of goodies in store for us. Look what I caught on Crackberry:

Ah haaaa….

I think I’ll wait for BOGO before I purchase any thing else.

What do you think? Have you tried this? Want to? Not interested?

Don’t act like you’re too cute to be shoppin’ in the drugstore, girl!

Beauty Review: Chapstick True Shimmer

Review time!

But first….raise you hand if you have ever owned a Chapstick.

*looks around*

I think just about everyone has owned Chapstick. You too, fellas! It’s just a staple when it comes to lip care. I remember being a little girl and beating the winter weathered chapped lips with a tube of Chapstick…you know, the kind with the blue packaging.

Chapstick has a new lip balm that adds a little more to your lippies: shimmer!

I absolutely adore these babies….which is shocking because I have never been the glittery goddess type but the shimmer in these are very subtle. And of course it has that wonderful long-lasting moisture that we have all grown to love from the Chapstick brand. And is it just me or can I *licks lips* taste a somethin’-somethin’?

Check me out!

Just a very sheer but pretty shimmer. I tried pairing one with a lip liner from Milani Cosmetics (Bonfire) and it worked perfectly!

I am finding that these are perfect for the holidays. If not as stocking stuffers, maybe you can trim your tree with them, eh?

Don’t laugh at me….yall know it’s cute. LOL! Not bad for only $2.79. And of course you can find them at any drug, food or convenience store. Are you a Chapstick fan? What’s your favorite item from them?

For more information, visits chapstick.com.

Stay puckering,

P.S.
Drop by later today! I will be announcing the winner from last week’s giveaway as well as dropping the details for the next one! You’re excited, uh? I know you are. :)

FOTD: Fuchsia Lippies!

Happy Friday, beautiful people. I am singing Marvin Sapp’s “Neeeeever would have made it wiiiithout youuuuu,” Ohh wee–this was a trying week but I made it through. I’m spending the weekend with SisterClumps3 and doing some volunteering at the Obama4Orlando office so I hope to have a good weekend!

Last week MAC Cosmetics dropped the Manish Arora collection available only online and at a few (I think like two….) MAC locations. I had no intentions of snagging anything from this collection but the packaging was just divine. But I’m still broke and despite the fact that gas is around $2.99/gallon, I still need to pinch pennies. Hence the reason why I only grabbed two lippies. But booooy, do I love Girl About Town lipstick and Pink Manish Lip glass.

Peep the FOTD:

EYES:
Too Faced Shadow Insurance
Cargo Medium Bronzer
Too Faced Mocha Meteor
Clinique Almost Peach
MAC Blacktrack Fluidline
Maybelline Unstoppable eyeliner
Max Factor Volume Couture mascara (still lovin’ it!)

LIPS:
MAC Girl About Town lipstick (fabulous fuchsia )
MAC Pink Manish Lip glass (frosted fuchsia with multi-color pearl)

FACE:
Nada..can’t you tell. I’m shinning something serious!

Girl About Time alone…I was being a little extra giddy.

Oh wait…that’s how I ALWAYS am. HA!

Wow! Who would have thought a fuchsia lipstick would be so beautiful! I mean, it’s not something I can wear to work but it’s kinda jazzy. I can dig it. What do you think?

This lippie is so bright, it looks like it’s glowing!

I love my simple neutral eye combination. Bronzer on the lids is truly amzing!

I was excited about Pink Manish because I really don’t have a pink gloss like this…no really, I don’t. Like….I’m not even kidding.

NOTD (Nail of the day) is China Glaze’s For Audrey. Not one of my favorites but it’s a cool and funky shade.

‘Tis all. I hope everyone has a GREAT weekend! Oh, but wait…

I’ve been quiet this month in reference to Breast Cancer awareness but I’ve been doing a lot of behind the scenes work for Total Beauty, Total Cure campaign. As a participating blog, I am also on the tech committee making sure everything runs smoothly for the daily giveaways! Tune in next week….I’ll drop you the scoop for each and every giveaway and benefit.

….Breast Cancer awareness? Now that’s beautiful!

Stay beautiful!

Berries!

Ohhhh la laaa, I’ve been all over berries this summer. Aside from making delicious blueberry, strawberry and raspberry protein smoothies every other morning, I’ve been all over berry colored lippies. I decided to have a little fun and showcase them by categorizing the intensities: low, medium and high color concentrations.

Sound too technical? HA….well, hopefully my silly pictures make up (get it…make-up? *crickets*) for the professional word usage.

First up. let’s start with the loooooow.

[LOW]
L’Oreal HIP Jelly Balm in Luscious

…..what’s better than a MAC Tendertone? Nooo, I’m just kidding. I’ve actually never owned the Tendertones but I don’t feel like I’m missing out. Especially since I got them 2 for $8.99. I find these perfect for a little color tint. Like when I’m at work and don’t have time to run to a mirror.

[MEDIUM]
CoverGirl’s Wetslicks AmazeMint #625

I absolutely love this lippie. This has to be one of my favorites! The color in the tube isn’t as dark on my lips so it works out beautifully. The minty taste doesn’t hurt either. It isn’t too powerful but it is absolutely pleasant applying on the lips. This is a great “gotta run into the mall” or “out to eat with the co-workers” look.

I’m a nut for giving that lipgloss
its own photoshoot, uh? HA!

[HIGH]
NARS Afghan Red

If you are lookin’ for a serious berry-licious look, I’m thinkin’ that a highly pigmented lipstick is the way to go. NARS Afghan Red is seriously one of my favorite lipsticks. I know, I know. I say that about all of my products, but this baby here has me goin’ around pokin’ my lips out every time I wear it. It is great for ladies’ night out!

How do you feel about berry lipsticks? Yay or nay?

….but that’s not alllll.

I was on my way to work and was tempted to try on that new Port Red lipstick from MAC’s Naughty Nauticals collection. So I dropped my lunch box and purse on the floor and ran to my bathroom where the beauty of all lipsticks lay in my traincase. I lined my lips with Nightmoth and applied Port Red. I was floored with how beautiful it looks. The subtle gold specks really bring some “umph” to the overall color of Port Red. I am in love with this. And yep, it is a TRUE red. What I love about it is how it isn’t a deep red. Deep reds tend to make me really look like somebody’s 40 year old Momma. And yall know what I’m talkin’ about….hehehe.

So dig the little photo shoot I had in the car. I was careful about it, I promise. I also tried to show pictures in different lightning so you can really get an idea of how Port Red looks. *insert British voice* I was a bit giddy in these pics, chaps but I had a jolly good time. And you’ll have to enlarge for a better view. Photbucket was on the trips today, mannnn.

My brows are really crackin’ me up. Goin’ to get them threaded tomorrow. I can’t express how much I love this color.

What do you think?
Yay or nay to Port Red?
…..what’ s your take on darker skinned ladies wearin’ red lippies?
