Clinique Chubby Wubby Lip Colour Balms

Clinique does it again. They’ve managed to create an amazing lip product that I’m obsessed with. Their Chubby Stick Moisturizing Lip Colour Balms have been around for quite some time but now Clinique has some reformulated ones that are more…intense. Yes, girl…yes! Intense color is definitely my preference when it comes to lip products. And um, let’s face it – when have you ever seen a super pigmented lip stick thingy like this? I haven’t!

DSC_4652

Soooo, I mean, what IS this stick of wonderfulness? According to Clinique, these lip balms are a blend between a moisturizing lip balm and a full coverage lip colour. And that definition is pretty dead on to me. I usually always apply a lip balm before applying any a lipgloss or lipstick but with these, I can just put it on and go.

DSC_4653

At $16 a pop, you get a good amount of product.

DSC_4655

DSC_4658

DSC_4662

And no, love…you don’t have to worry about having a massive sharpener for these. Simply twist that little silver knob at the bottom and you’re good to go.

DSC_4660

There are 5 gorgeous shades of these but I’m highlighting my favorites…

DSC_4667

Curviest Caramel is a soft pink that also leans more on the nude-y side. I didn’t think it would work well with my complexion but it’s pretty darn spectacular. I’ve been able to rock it confidently without a lipliner and all. Woot!

DSC_4690

Plushest Punch is a gentle magenta and this is my favooooorite. I find it to be a great everyday color. It also seems to be a bit more glossy than some of the other shades. Which is a nice little perk.

DSC_4697

Heftiest Hibiscus looks orange at first glance but but really it’s more of an orange-y coral. It works well for me and it’s such a nice shade to have in the bunch.

DSC_4718

Grandest Grapes almost looks like Plushest Punch but it has more purple in it. It’s darker and richer and I find it to be a gorgeous pop of color on days when I’m not doing too much with the eyes.

DSC_4720

Mighest Maraschino is a red and bay-bee, it is really red. It’s got some blue in it so I think it’ll work well for all complexions. It’s the perfect “intro to red” for those who aren’t ready to wear super glossy red lips.

So let’s see, these are…
-Moisturizing
-Long-lasting (I can get good wear for about 4-5 hours)
-Nicely pigmented
-Easy to find
-In a number of diverse shades

Cost: $16/ea

Gorgeous Picks from Le Métier de Beauté

Remember that time I had that crazy awesome Le Métier de Beauté Cosmetics makeover? I am still head over heels in love with this higher end brand and as promised, I’ve got some of their newest goodies to show off. Now. Keep in mind, that Le Métier de Beauté is higher-end so their product prices aren’t for everyone. But for my girls who love luxe cosmetics, you’ll love everything about this brand. And y’all know…I don’t discriminate. I love drugstore and higher-end cosmetics equally. Word.

DSC_5371

Let’s rap on nail polishes first because that’s what most newcomers to the brand love the most. And it’s no surprise because everything from the color selection to the formula is just superb.

DSC_5383

DSC_5386

I do have 2 complaints about the polishes though. Their bottles are just so so as far as appearance and the brushes seem to be a bit on the small side. Or maybe I just have huge hands. Could be the latter. But still – I love everything about these 2 shades.

DSC_5389

Made in the Jade is a wonderful dark green that is opaque with only 2 coats. It’s a smooth cream and has a gorgeous shine without a topcoat.

DSC_5394

Cloisin-Navy is just that…a richly pigmented navy nail polish that will have any blue nail polish lover going nutty. And for good reason. It’s just dynamic. And I love that it’s a navy blue that doesn’t look black. These polishes retail for $18 a pop.

On the eyeshadow front, check out how beautiful Fire Lily is…

DSC_5409

DSC_5408

Gorgeous, right? This shade reminds me so much of MAC’s Cranberry except it has a tiny bit more shimmer to it. It is fantastic on the lid but I really like shades like this applied to my outer-V. Le Métier de Beauté’s eyeshadows are pretty pricey at $30 but man, this one makes the price tag seem okay.

Aaaaand in the lipstick world, I couldn’t stop bragging about Le Métier de Beauté’s glosses and this Orange Juiced ($32) is just niiiice.

DSC_5414

DSC_5416

DSC_5418

For one, it doesn’t feel like a typical gloss. It is insanely moisturizing (thanks to the Vitamin E) and doesn’t feel tacky on the lips. At the same time, you get a nice dose of shine and while the gloss is orange in color, it actually looks pretty clear on my lips with just a small bit of orange shimmer. Of course, if I were to wear an orange (or maybe red) lipstick, the orange in the gloss would really pop. It isn’t the glossiest lipgloss that I’ve come across but I would trade added moisture for glossiness any day. Can I get an Amen?

DSC_5425

And I saved the best for last because the packaging of Le Métier de Beauté’s Kaleidoscopes are just goooorgeous.

DSC_5435

Priced at $95, these are definitely the kind of product that you have to LOOOOOOVE to even consider buying. Admittedly so, I’ve never been a fan of lip color palettes and kits. I think they are best suited for makeup artsits and traveling but for everyday use, I much prefer using lipsticks and glosses. There is something insanely wonderful about the lip colors in this Lip Kit though. Each shade is nice and pigmented and all have nice wear time. They end up being about $25 each so yeah, I do think the price point is a bit hefty – even for a luxe brand.

DSC_5431

The shades:

DSC_5438

DSC_5440

DSC_5444

Cinema: a velvety, ultra-rich true red.
Existential: sparkling mauve with rose effervescence.
Beau: deep berry crimson with matte finish.
Celluloid: a glimmering, creamy flushed red.

Celluloid is stunning. I’m not into having to use a lip brush every time I want to apply a lip color (I know…I’m lazy) but I loooove this one.

DSC_5476

So yeah, I am loving me some Le Métier de Beauté. If you’re going to spend a good amount of money on a brand, you should want to be woo-ed and Le Métier de Beauté does that. You can scoop up their products at select Nordstrom counters and Nordstrom.com.

Any Le Métier de Beauté lovers in the house? How beautiful is that Kaleidoscope?

Newest Stuff from LUSH

It’s been a quick minute since I’ve dabbled in some LUSH stuff so why not start the year off featuring one of my favorite brands? This go ’round I am highlighting some of their super cool Emotional Brilliance cosmetics, a chunk of smell-good soap and one of their new lip scrubs.

DSC_4859

Let’s start with the soap first. His name is Mr. Punch…

DSC_4926

A cute little sucker, isn’t he? Let’s run the stats on him…

Price:$6.95 for 3.5 oz
Availability: In LUSH stores and online.
What LUSH says: When you turn it upside-down, this soap looks like a delicious bowl of punch with fruit floating in it. We were inspired to make a fruity, tropical, boozy punch scent for this soap, and we did so with juniper berry oil, blackcurrant absolute, lime oil and a splash of gin. That’ll cheer you up on dark winter mornings! (source)

Now we all know that I’m not a fan of super fragrant soaps and I was so glad to know that this one is subtle. It’s got a nice and fruity smell but is indeed quite reminiscent of punch. I can smell every bit of the lime and blackcurrant. The smell dissipates quickly after lathering up but it’s just so adorable to look at. I’ve got it in my guest bathroom just because it’s THAT cute and I love how it seems to double as an air freshener.

DSC_4935

Next up is the yummy Popcorn Lip Scrub

DSC_4910

DSC_4925

Price: $8.95 for 0.8 oz
Availability: LUSH stores and online.
What LUSH says: Mmm! A simply scrumptious sugar and salt lip scrub for the holidays. We haven’t been able to keep our hands off this one. Lips can get particularly dry and flakey in winter weather, so it’s especially important to exfoliate. Use this one and keep your lips sweet, smooth and tasty all season long. The sweet and slightly salty popcorn flavor will make you want to lick this scrub right off your lips; but that’s okay, we do it too! (source)

I’ve featured LUSH’s lip scrubs before (here and here) but I so didn’t know that they had a popcorn version of this awesome scrub. And seriously, y’all…it really does taste like popcorn. Like all of LUSH’s lip scrubs, this one is total edible. It’s salty and feels so divine on the lips. Honestly, I could stash a ton of these and still never get enough. I think this is limited edition so better snag it before they run out!

And then there are LUSH’s new kids on the block, their Emotional Brillance Liquid Lipsticks…

DSC_4884

Price: $18.95/ea
Availability: LUSH stores and online.
What LUSH says: Grab some Glamorous or prepare for a Passionate smooch with LUSH’s patent pending liquid lip formula. Super softening Ultrabalm is the base, which is a simple blend of organic jojoba oil, candelilla wax and rose wax. Lips will be brilliantly coloured and left soft, smooth and deeply moisturized. (per press release)

These are interesting. For one, while the packaging is unique and flows with the LUSH concept, I’m not sure how practical they are as the applicator only allows you to go straight down in the bottle.

DSC_4874

Consistency-wise, they were a bit on the grainy side, have nice pigmentation and provide more moisture than the average lip product. Your best bet is to exfoliate those lippies before use though, because these tend to amplify cracks, splits and lines in lips. Each shade is actually an “emotion”.

Glamorous is a bubblegum pink.

DSC_4869

Strong is a blood orange.

DSC_4878

Confident is a deep plum.

DSC_4879

DSC_4898

These wear well and I found Confident to be the most suitable for me.

DSC_4906

So I don’t know – I’m still on the fence about thgese. I think they are darling but a bit overpriced. They are  fun and LUSH has a ton of shades that I think will suit both tame color lovers and the adventurous alike.

Whatcha think? Have you tried any of the Emotional Brillance cosmetics? And how awesome is that edible popcorn scrub?

Top Beauty Finds of 2012

You knew it was comin’. I’ll save my whole spiel about “OMG, I can’t believe it’s already almost 2013″ and whatnot and just get right down to the nitty gritty.

Okay, wait. I lied. Seriously though – can y’all believe how quickly 2012 flew by? I mean, dang! Okay okay…here are some of my top  beauty finds of 2012. Keep in mind that these aren’t ALL of them. I’m far too lazy to list them all. Hey! I’m bein’ honest. Something you can continue to expect in 2013. Hollerrrrrrr.

Hereeeee we goooo….

Top Mascaras

So in this post I listed 6 of my favorite mascaras. Not included in that list are the following…

  • CoverGirl LashBlast Clump Crusher mascara – Because how many mascaras don’t kill your lashes after you’ve applied a good 3 coats to them? Not many. We’ve seen a lot of Lash Blast mascaras but I’m happy to say that this one really doesn’t clump.

Top Nail Polish Brands/Collections

Piccies

  • butter LONDON – I was head over heels in love with this nail polish brand this year. Why? They were always releasing beautiful nail polishes that didn’t look like other polishes that I owned. At $14 a bottle, they are a bit on the higher-end side of nail polishes but who cares. We all need a hobby and one of mine is collection bL polishes until I die. Yep.
  • Cult Nails Coco’s Untamed collection – Oooh boy, I couldn’t get enough of this collection either. Even more impressive is that a 13-year old came up with all of these gorgeous shades. Yuuuup.

Top Lippies

  • I listed 4 of my favorite lippies here. Included in that list is the ever so awesome Revlon Colorburst Lip Butter.

 Top Skincare Products

  • Check out this list of 7 skincare products that rocked my world.
  • Eucerin Skin Calming Dry Skin Body Wash – It’s far from paraben-free and contains more ingredients than I like my skincare products to have but this has been the only body wash that not only soothes but keeps my eczema at bay.
  • Josie Maran skincare products – Okay, I’m cheating here because I haven’t really done a post for her products yet but I’ve been using them for weeks now and I am obsessed. Ob.sessed. Josie Maran drops argan oil in all of her products and I’ve been slathering everything from her hair oil, sunscreen and whipped argan butter allllll over.
  • Clarisonic Aria – This is another product that I haven’t reviewed (or tried) but I plan on getting my hands on it in 2013. I’m just so in love with this version of the awesome Clarisonic face brush that I just HAVE to have it.

Best in Foundations

  • Urban Decay Naked Skin Liquid Foundation – Oh geez, I love this stuff. I am actually at the bottom of my first bottle and I am thisclose to buying another. This foundation actually turned me into liking foundation. Which says a lot.

I totally didn’t even try to do a “Best in Eyes”. There were just too many products to choose from. Yeah, I know. I suck.

What were some of your favorite products in 2012?

Beautiful Red Lips from the Laura Mercier Art Deco Muse collection

Have y’all seen Laura Mercer’s Art Deco collection? O.M.GGahhhhh. I’m not even exaggerating when I say this one spectacular makeup collection. And this is coming from a gal who doesn’t get excited about many collections. I know, I know. That’s a horrible thing for a beauty editor to say but a brand has to really impress me for me to get all giddy over a collection. I’m just sayin’. But let’s face it…I’m halfway there when a beautiful red lippie is the mix.

DSC_3563

Giiiiirl. I know, right? I KNOW! Lemme tell you something, if you have an affinity, obsession or even slight liking to red lippies, you’ll never stop getting excited over them. I mean, never. Trust me. I’ve tried. This is one of the 2 lippies that debuted in the Laura Mercier Art Deco collection and I’m running circles around them both. Say hello to the Lip Lacquer in Lacquer Rouge ($24).

DSC_3560

DSC_3552

Laura Mercier’s version of lipgloss is like an experience. I have never used such a pigmented and moisturizing gloss EVER. And it lasts for hours on end between eating and drinking. Very impressive! I find it works beautifully with my warm complexion. This is the kind of red lipgloss that I live for.

And then there’s the other red lippie in the collection, Deco Rouge.

DSC_3502

DSC_3506

It has more orange in it and I always feel like orange-based red lipsticks aren’t the best for me, but somehow Deco Rouge ($26) works. Plus, I never mind warming up orange-based red lippies with a plum or wine lipliner. But I think I can actually rock Deco Rouge solo, yo.

DSC_3511

DSC_3514

Both red lippies from this collection are phenomenal. In fact, the entire collection is. Laura Mercier wins.

That is all.

Too Faced La Crème Lipsticks

Come with meeeee and you’ll be…in a world of pure imagination! Guess that song and I’ll love you forever. And if you don’t know that song, click here and I guarantee that you’ll love me forever. Those lyrics slammed into my forehead the minute I saw these beautiful lipsticks.

DSC_1017

And should I really even call them lipsticks? I’m not sure because they are so insanely smooth that they almost feel like a balm. Their drugstore sister could be Revlon’s Lip Butters except these are creamier and are housed in prettier packaging. No shade to those Revvie  Lip Butters though because they are some kind of awesome. But these, m’dear. These decadent wonders called La Crème Lipsticks are just, well…they’re the bomb diggity. No doubt, baby.

DSC_1007

So what does Sephora have to say about these kids?

“Indulge lips with luxurious color and super moisturizers including white lotus flower and power peptides. This rich formula comes in abundant shades in four essential color ranges: nudes, spices, pinks, and reds. Edited to only the most fashionable shades, it’s impossible to pick just one.” (source)

These lippies are vegan-friendly, paraben-free and creamier than my favorite flavor of gelato. Which, by the way, is pistachio. Too Faced totes 16 various shades of these. Most are on the sheer side but still provide some kind of opaque finish. These are really like nice little treats for the lips because they aren’t only super moisturizing but feel amazing. I’ve got 5 of the shades to show off. But first, tell me how much you love the tube!

DSC_1010

Pretty royalty-licious, uh? They are slimmer than the size of a traditional lipstick so they’ll make for perfect makeup bag toting. Now as far the shades that I’ve got…

DSC_1024

Wowers. They are spectacular.

DSC_1043(l-r)
Fuchsia Shock,  Honey Bear, Naughty Nude, Razzle Dazzle, Spice Spice Baby

You know my favorite one, right? Fuchsia Shock, of course. Yes, it’s the brightest of the bunch but I found it to be the most wearable for me.

DSC_1786

And I love how it doesn’t require any lipliner. I can just apply and go. It’s such a beautiful raspberry. I dig the other neutral shades too but I’ve been finding myself gravitating towards Spice Spice Baby.

DSC_1782

It’s the perfect nude for me. And a good dude nude is so hard find.

These retail for $21 a pop so they aren’t your cheapest creamy lipsticks but they are worth every penny. The shade selection is nice, the packaging is impeccable, they are moisturizing and long-lasting AND they’re vegan. I need to go and haul the other 11. Please excuse me, y’all… Oh! You can snag these at Sephora, Sephora.com and TooFaced.com.

Stila Harvest Lip Glaze Set. And they’re cheap!

Stila Stila bo bee-laaaaa! I’m so immature, y’all. But you already knew this, right? I don’t know who came up with the idea of being all mature and “appropriate” once you become an adult. Yeah no. Definitely not my philosophy. I’m going to be a kid forever. Weeeee! I’m also going to love Stila’s lip glazes forever too. These things will never stop being awesome to me.

DSC_0692

I’ve actually hailed their lip glazes as one of the BEST lipglosses on the market. Yeah, I know. Pretty epic claim for a beauty blogger who has tried dozens and dozens of lipglosses. But lip glazes rock. And if you haven’t tried ‘em yet, this $12 set may peak your interest.

DSC_0689

Ah haaa…do I have your attention now?  What Stila’s website says about these babies…

“Inspired by the change of seasons and vibrant autumn colors, each Lip Glaze Trio contains an assortment of Stila’s most popular lip gloss in three gorgeous hues that will add a splash of color and glossy shine to lips. The Harvest Set features three exclusive shades to keep your lips glossy and polished with one click of Stila’s iconic pen.” (source)

If you’re going to wear a gloss, it needs to be one that lasts for more than an hour, ya dig? Stila’s lip glazes don’t disappoint as I find them to be pretty long-lasting. And don’t let the lip brush intimidate you.

DSC_0693

For a while I wasn’t a fan of lip brushes because I found them to mess up lip looks that involve lipsticks and lipliners. The trick is to turn the knob at the bottom…

DSC_0694

…get an ample amount and just blot the lips together. I don’t like using the brushes all over the lips. Instead, I put just a dollop in the middle of my lips and blot out the rest. If needed, I’ll use the brushes on the edges. The only time I’ll glide it all over my lips is when I’m wearing ONLY gloss. Pretty technical, uh?

Scent-wise, these are pleasant and subtle for fragrance haters like me. And when it comes to actual performance, well, I mean…it IS a Stila lip glaze.

DSC_0699(L-R) Vanilla, Orchard, Spice

Which means it’s all that and then some. These are some glossy babies and I love that the set has 3 different formulas.

Vanilla is a bit of a honey glitter bomb. It’s super glittery when worn alone so it’s probably best to wear it layered over any color lipstick.

Orchard is pink frost and I’ve never been a fan of how frost glosses look on me. They don’t always apply evenly and this shade isn’t so flattering on me.

Spice is my favorite because although it’s super sheer, it has a nice brown sugar hue to it. The shimmer is subtle and long-lasting.

DSC_0706

Not bad for a set of glosses that round up to be $4 a pop, uh? The set is currently available online and if you’re a beauty budget shopper, I’m pretty sure you can find them at Nordstrom Rack, TJ Maxx, Marshall’s or Ross in the next season or so.

Any lovers of Stila’s lip glazes?

Tarte’s Glamazon Pure Performance 12-Hour Lipsticks, Part 2

I’m back with part 2 of the glorious Glamazon Pure Performance 12-Hour Lipsticks from Tarte. I reviewed the first 4 here. I am still so in love with these lippies and love how Tarte has given us such a diverse color palette. There are shades for bold color lovers and those that prefer nudes alike. Ironically, in this post I’ll be featuring two reds! The best lipstick color evaaaaa. But then again, y’all know how I feel about reds.

Aren’t they pretty? From my original post, you’ll know that despite the fact that these are clay lipsticks, they are incredibly moisturizing. Of course you’ll still have to wear a balm for added moisture but these aren’t half bad.

I am still impressed with the crazy amount of shine and pigment that these lipsticks give. Far more than most traditional lipsticks! And just to think…these are without parabens and all of those yucky preservatives. This is why I love Tarte. They don’t comprise quality even though their products include natural ingredients.

(l-r) Whimsy, Fierce, Inspired, Wild

Whimsy is described as a bright pink and the swatches on the Sephora website don’t do this baby ANY justice. I find it too cool for me to wear alone but it’s a gorgeous pink nonetheless.

Fierce is an orange toned bright red and as much as I love reds, I prefer blue toned reds but this is still very nice.

Inspired looks a lot like Pure. They are both rose-y pinks. This one is more on the lines of a dusty rose and while I don’t wear a lot of light pinks, if I were to wear one, it would likely be a sweet and dainty one like this.

Wild is my kind of red! It’s a cool red that I think looks great on me.

To get an in-depth review of these lipsticks if they are worth they steep price tags of $26 a pop, check out this post. In the meantime, if you’re still stuck on deciding which ones you may want to snag, I highly recommend one of the reds (Fierce or Wild) and Foxy. Foxy is a beautiful deep pink that I think will flatter anyone.

Way to go, Tarte! Can’t wait to see what these cosmetic geniuses come up with next…
