VIDEO: Using Q-tips to exfoliate lips

Soooo I’ve finally come out of the hole and did a YouTube video. It’s been a few months since I’ve done one but there’s nothing like an ambassadorship to motivate me to do one. In this video, I am showing you how useful Qtips Precision Tips can be when used to exfoliate lips and cleaning up lipstick mistakes.

And because it’s me, there’s random singing, accents and silliness. Yeah – some things will never change. In this video, I feature 2 of my favorite multi-purpose ingredients coconut oil and brown sugar. The Qtips do a great job at allowing me to get in the inner corners of my lips. I know what you’re thinking.

“B, can’t you just use your fingers?”

Nope. Coconut oil melt with the quickness when it hits the skin so using the Qtips Precision Tips has been niiiiice.

Let me know if you plan on trying this lip scrub. Oh! And did I mention that it’s edible too? Weeee! Stay tuned for my next Qtips post. I’ll be giving away some major beauty stuffs! And in the meantime, be sure to follow Qtips on Facebook!

I am Q-tips ambassador so this is a sponsored video. Q-tips® product was provided by Unilever, the makers of Q-tips®; my tips and usage suggestions are my own.

Q-tips® cotton swabs do a lot of good. To celebrate this, the Q-tips® cotton swabs brand is donating 1 Million Q-tips® cotton swabs to 3 charities that can use them daily – Operation Gratitude for care packages, Ronald McDonald House of New York for arts & crafts and Glamour Gals for intergenerational manicures & makeovers. NYC New York Color Up To 8HR lipgloss and a pup with a scarf

Sometimes when it comes to lip looks – I keep it simple. Y’all know by now that I’m not the type to spend more than 10 minutes a day on my makeup. What you may not know is that a good 6 of those minutes are dedicated to primpin’ the lips. I’m not even kidding. That’s not even the crazy part though. The crazy part is usually 20 minutes after I’ve applied some lip stuffs, I eat breakfast and completely ruin the lip look. I know. Ridic, right?

But every now and then, I act like I’ve got some sense and apply just a gloss. One like NYC New York Color Up To 8HR City Proof extended wear lipgloss. And it’s only a good $3.50. Ooooh yes.

It’s been a minute since I’ve glanced at NYC New York Color. I’m not sure how new these glosses are but they aren’t too shabby. It’s simple and it provides a nice pop of color without my having to do TOO much, ya know?

Aaaand it’s on the moisturizing side which is always a plus in my book. Don’t act like your lips have never been ashy. I KNOW I can’t be the only one. I love how this gloss isn’t tacky but I’m not a fan of how is smells. It’s quite reminiscent of Blue Magic hair crease. My sisters with hair types like mine will know what I’m talkin’ about. It’s not a stinky smell but it’s a bit medicindal and it just doesn’t smell “pretty”. I just wish all lip products (and skincare too, for that matter) went fragrance-free.

Oh. That pimple scar in between my brows told me to tell you “Whattup?” My pimples don’t only move IN on my face, they stay for a while, embarrass themselves and then leave a mess when they finally decide to leave. I don’t know what’s nuttier. Me acting like my pimples are roommates or the fact that I’m 27 and still battling pimples.

Man.

And uh – as far as lasting for 8 hours on this lips? Unless you don’t do any eating or drinking for 8 hours straight (virtually impossible for me), it can stick around. But if you’re a snacker and stay sippin’ dranks, yeah no…you won’t get 8 hours of wear time. 2-4 hours? Quizás, Quizás.

Know what else can last for 2-4 hours? Meiko’s scarf!

When I first tried to put this scarf on my pup, she’d keep trying to rip it off. Ole’ girl finally realized it’s better to be down with HK than fight me on it. Just ask Esposo.

Whatcha think, gals? Have any lip product surpassed more than a good 5 hours for you?

butter LONDON’s Lippys…matching lipglosses and nail polishes!

Dear butter LONDON,

Unfortunately, I won’t be able to marry you. Esposo has some kind of problem with our union. Something about not wanting to deal lose his wife to a nail polish brand. Hater, much? Nevertheless, I will continue to love you through thick and thin nail beds. You’re my my fave. And you and me shall never part.

Love ya butta,

B

_______

I can’t be the only one who writes love letters to tangible items that don’t breathe. I mean, come on…no one ever wrote letters to their invisible friends? Okay…moving on.

These new butter LONDON LIPPYs are all the rage in the beauty world. But you can totally see why, right? Aren’t these lippies just the cutest things you’ve ever seen? bL does it best.

Launched in April of this year, the inaugural LIPPY line features Primrose Hill Picnic, Snog, Trout Pout, Yummy Mummy, Trout Pout and Teddy Girl; all which happen to be some of butta’s top nail polish shades. I’ve got Teddy Girl and Snog to show off.

Teddy Girl (left) is described as a pale, retro bubblegum pink. It doesn’t compliment my skintone the best but with a bit of color added from a lipliner, it’s rockin’!

Snog right) is described as a bright, happy, hot pink and this baby is hot alright. Which of course means I love it immensely.

Pro’s
-Insanely pigmented
-Wears like a lipstick but applies like a lipgloss
-Long-lasting
-Paraben, petroleum, pthalates and sulfate-free

Con’s
-Limited shades for now. Hopefully more will be released!
-Pricey. They are $17 a pop.
-The fragrance is overwhelmingly fragrant. It has a rose-y scent that lingers and lingers. No me gusta.

My hope is that there will be a matching LIPPY for the fabulous metallic red nail polish Knee’s Up. And I really hope that butter LONDON reformulates these to make the scent less obvious. I’d wear them a lot more often if the smell didn’t bug me so much. You can grab these  babies at Ulta.com now.

Physicians Formula pH Powered Lip Gloss. The gloss for big kids!

Lipgloss lovers and big kids, you’re going to love this one. Physicians Formula recently put out these pH Matchmaker pH Powered Lip Glosses and ohmigoodness, I can’t get enough of them. Yeah, I know they weren’t the first ones to come out with a lipgloss like this, but this may very well be my favorite.

First, let’s see what PF says about what makes this gloss awesome.

-1st Ever Lip Gloss with pH Power Complex transforms into your perfectly personalized hue.
-Hypoallergenic. Fragrance free. Paraben free. Dermatologist approved.
-Fluorescein Based Dye-senses the pH level of your skin & adjusts within 60 seconds to create your perfect lip color.

Okay, I’ll be honest – I think most of the claims are pretty gimmicky. I don’t think the gloss changes hues because of my pH level. It’ll change colors on a white sheet of paper. The gloss goes on with just a bit of a light pink shade to it and then it changes to a beautiful shade of bright pink. But I don’t think it has anything to do with my pH level. Then again, I’m a skeptic so I could be totally wrong. Ha!

But what’s NOT to love about this gloss? Formula-wise it’s realllly nice. It’s got a non-tacky formula and it feels and looks nice on the lippies.

The 10-hour wear time and dead on. In fact, even when the shine goes away, what you’re left with is a bit of a stain. Which I like! And there’s a mirror on the side…

Which comes in handy when you don’t feel like pulling out your compact.

But let’s get to the best part. This bad boy has a light built-in. With the press of the button…

…a light illuminates.

Awesome, right? And it’s BRIGHT! This lipgloss can easily double as a flashlight. No lie.

I’m impressed. Even though I’ve seen lipglosses like this before but this one rocks because the shade is so complimentary. There’s a Light Pink shade but something tells me that I wouldn’t like it as much as I like this one.

You can get this lippie from drugstores, Ulta and online for $9.99. And yeah, that’s a bit steep for a lipgloss, but considering you get a zombie blocking light on it, I think it’s well worth it. ;)

NYX’s Color Lip Balms roooock!

Yep, it’s me again. Bragging about the awesomeness that are lip balms. I do this frequently. Probably more than I need too but honestly… What’s better than a lip balm? A drying lipstick? A sticky lipgloss? I think not. Lip balms will always run the world for because as much as I love lipsticks and glosses they just can’t moisturize my lippies as well as balms can. And even better than a lip balm is a tinted lip balm. And in this case, NYX Cosmetics’ Color Lip Balms.

Here’s what NYX has to say about these kids,

“Add color and moisturize to your lips in one application. When your lips crave hydration and you crave color, NYX Cosmetics new Color Lip Balm is the perfect option! Get the moisture, shine, and a sheer wash of color your lips desire while still looking natural. Available in 12 shades.” (source)

They ain’t lyin’ about the moisture. I find myself wearing these for hours at a time without my lips getting all dry and flaky. The color range is pretty awesome too. From neutrals to bright pinks and reds, there’s a little somethin’ for everyone. Yeeep, you read correctly. I typed “red”.

You hear that gals who think they can’t wear red lipstick? Even if you are still fearful of rockin’ red, wearing a sheer red balm like NYX’s Grazie is a great gateway color to wearing super pigmented red lippies.

Featured here I’ve got Spasibo, Grazie and Xie Xie.

And some swatches….

I love using these in the morning when I’m headed out the door for work. They give me enough “color” so that I feel polished and unlike lipsticks and glosses, they won’t leave prints all over my water bottle or whatever I’m eating for breakfast. And if it’s some EXTRA color that I’m craving, I can also use a lipliner with these.

Spasibo is the neutral kid of the bunch and it virtually disappears on the lips.

Grazie is what I would describe as a light red. It has just a bit of coral in it but it’s the kind of shade that will compliment gals of all hues.

And then there’s Xie Xie, my favorite. Xie Xie is a pinky raspberry that actually leaves a bit of a stain once it disappears from the lips. Niiiiice!

When comparing these to Revlon Lip Butters, these aren’t nearly as pigmented but just as moisturizing. They aren’t half bad and the price point is groovy too. $3.79 isn’t much and if you’re diligent enough, you can probably catch them on sale at Ulta. Hollllaaa!!!

I love you, NYX. I love these balms and I love RuPaul’s Drag Race.

That last bit was random. Kinda but not really. 8)

Vanilla lips, charcoal cheeks and an ocean breeze in a jar – Thanks LUSH!

I don’t think I’ve played around with LUSH alllll year. How lame am I? Ah well. Better late than never. Since summer has rolled around these parts (Florida totally skipped Spring), I’ll be baring more of that skin. Not in a “It’s so hot, I’m just going to go nekkid.” kind of way but have I been struttin’ in my skirts, shorts, bathing suits and strappy tanks? Oooooh yeah. These LUSH goodies are perfect for scrubbin’, exfoilating and moisturizing your skin all while getting it ready for the warmer weather.

Vegan Sweet Lips Lip Scrub in Vanilla
($8.95) – get it here

Oooooh how I love these lip scrubs. Prior to using the ones from LUSH, I was scrubbing my lips with my toothbrush. Which ain’t exactly sexy. But this scrub? Oh my words!

I love that it contains only a few ingredients. Sugar, vanilla extract, cocoa absolute and organic jojoba oil. Short and sweet ingredient lists are the best. LUSH says this scrub tastes like freshly baked chocolate chip cookies and I totally agree. And did I mention that it’s edible? Yes girl…if scrubbin’ on the go is your thing, you can dab some of this on your lips and lick it right off.

Oh, one thing though: be sure to close the top nice and tight. For if you don’t, the sugar will harden and become un-usable. Such was the case with my last jar of this scrub. Womp.

Dark Angels Facial Charcoal Cleanser
($11.95) – get it here

While it wouldn’t win the Sexiest Cleanser award, this cleanser is actually pretty effective. Even for those with sensitive skin like meeeee. Yeah. I get super excited when I come across cleansers that don’t make my skin go nuts. This cleanser is for those who have blocked pores and want to combat breakouts. Who knew black sugar and powdered charcoal could be so divine together?

There’s also a dose of rhassoul mud and organic avocado oil, both which do a great job and moisturizing the skin. Fragrance-wise, this stuff is…different. It’s got sandalwood and rosewood oils in it and while I’m a fan of both, the earthiness of this throws me off a bit. The fragrance dissipates after rinsing it off but still…when it’s on there, it smells funnnnyyyyy. But it works. And so I plug my nose and get to slathering.

Ocean Salt Facial and Body Scrub
($19.95 for 4.2 oz/$34.95 for 8.8 oz) – get it here

This Florida girl loves anything that attempts to capture the essence of the ocean. Of course nothing beats actually going to this beach, but this scrub isn’t half bad. Scent-wise, it is amaziiiing. Both refreshing and invigorating, I find that this coarse sea salt scrub is great for the face AND body.

It’s smooth and slick enough to go on the face but still coarse enough to be used on the body. It’s also a great unisex scrub as I find that the fragrance has a bit of a masculine whiff to it. With avocado oil, grapefruit and fresh lime infusion, this scrub gives a darn good job at giving the illusion of being at the beach.

LUSH never steers me wrong….

NARS Mexican Rose

It’s anything but new but NARS Cosmetics’ Mexican Rose Velvet Gloss Lip Pencil is freaking fantastic. And I’m not just saying that because I’m slightly obsessed with NARS everything.

Okay, wait – let’s rewind. Why is this the first time I’ve ever tried a NARS lip pencil? I mean…where in the world have I been? Have they always been free of parabens, synthetic fragrances, phthalates and sulfates? Whoooa! That’s huge for me. Y’all know how much I adore the preservative-free skincare and cosmetic products. So um, yeah…before this lippie even hit my lips, I was in love with it.

But when I did apply it. Oh Lawd…

Just gorgeous. It’s one of those funny lippies in that an initial swatch just looks so so.

It appeared ultra-glossy and while it’s described as a “hot pink”, it looked to be a little subdued to me. But honey, twas a different story when I put it on the lips. I love love love love love. Oh! And the best thing about this lippie? While it acts like a moisturizing lipstick, it actually stays around like a lip stain. Even after hours of wear time, this pencil will stay put. Which of course makes its $24 price tag a lot easier to glance at. I want more. And more I will be hauling from Sephora. If you want this one, get it ASAP. It’s limited edition and may not be around much longer.

Have you ever tried any of NARS lip pencils? And uh…is a mexican rose actually a rose that is indigenous to Mexico? The geek in me needs to know these things…

True Story: My friend launched her own lipstick line.

Gather ’round, ya’ll. I got a quick story to tell you.

Once upon a time I met this fabulous makeup artist.
She was really nice.
And talented.
We became friends.
Then she started a blog.
And then she launched her own lipstick line.

I can’t even say “The End” because my girl, Safia Michelle of LipstickMixtapes.com is on such an upward moving incline, that she is bound to be on the cover of magazines. Oh wait. She’s done that too. I have this love for bragging about people. Especially about modest people. Anyway – okay. I’ll focus.

Safia recently launched the Lipstick Mixtapes collection. I’ll be sure to take pictures of all of the shades but I wanted her to pick out two of her favorites from the collection.

Say ‘Hi’ to Elyte and Esther.

Ahhh yes, I could not have asked for a better pair. Elyte is a blue-toned red and Esther is a rose-tinted neutral. Perfect picks!

Elyte….

Now we all know how much much I love a good red lipstick. This one gives life, honey! It also has a bit of a berry finish to it that I can appreciate

And then there’s Esther. I’ve never actually worn a nude like that. In fact, I don’t wear many nudes period. Which is a plum shame because um, uh…how do I say this without sounding cocky? Well…I kinda dig the way I look in this nude lippy. And darn me for not having given them many chances before. To show the true color of Esther, I used different lighting.

Like I do with all lipsticks, I used a balm underneath them to prevent drying. Wear time is average and I re-applied after a good 4-5 hours.

I’m so proud of my girl Safia and I will forever be a super fan of the brand Lipstick Mixtapes. Support indie brands and scoop up one of her shades. I’ve got my eyes on the hot pink Grindtime and the deep red The Blood next.

While Safia wanted to give me these to review, I felt better purchasing them from her. If you do end up purchasing from Lipstick Mixtapes, tell her B from Clumps of Mascara sent you!
