My first Bobbi Brown lipstick. I’m such a big girl!

Every beauty lover has those brands that they REALLY love but don’t try many of their products. I’m that way about Sleep Makeup and Guerlain. Be it lack of availability or price, it kinda bugs me that I can’t play around with these brands more. Add Bobbi Brown to that list.

Okay yeah. BB is here in the states but those prices are just a little too steep for moi. The packaging of the products are just so so and only every now and then do the collections make me swoon. A few weeks ago, I was visiting some gal pals in Tampa Bay. We ventured into Macy’s and found our way at the Bobbi Brown makeup counter. We were swatchin’ and proddin’ when I came across the beautiful Cosmic Raspberry.

How did I miss when this baby launched last year? I love everything about this bright pink fuchsia. I mean, what’s not to love about a bright pink that looks stunning WITHOUT a lipliner?

Very rarely can I find a bright lippie that compliments my complexion without bringing TOO much attention to my lips.

$21 later Cosmic Raspberry was mine. Not a huge dent in my wallet. Plus it’s gorg.

So yeah. Even though I’m a drugstore lover, it doesn’t hurt to splurge on the higher end stuff every now and then.

Any Bobbi Brown lover in the house?

How to Create Sunburst Lips – Like A Boss.

When I fall for something, y’all…I fall hard. Take music for example. I can listen to the same songs for days, weeks and YEARS at a time. I STILL play “Let’s Groove” by Earth, Wind & Fire like it came out in January of last year. I am a free spirit but I am a comfortable spirit too. I don’t fix what ain’t broke and while that can be a good thing, it stunts my creativity at times.

Hence why the starburst lips came to me.

Yep. They came to me. Seriously. I was rushing into work on Monday and after plopping down at my desk, I realized that my lips were bare. Bare lips are a no no on Monday mornings. I rummaged through my makeup bag and pulled out the gorgeous Venomous Cosmetics’ Let U Go.

Venomous Cosmetics is an indie brand launched by a talented beauty blogger who is based out of Central Florida. I found about VC through my blog sister and friend, Phyrra (who also lives in Central FL…woot!) and when my eyes landed on Let U Go, I knew I had to have it. I mean, look at this orange…

Gorgeous, right? It’s even more stunning in person. I own nothing like it and was glad to add it to my stash. And I didn’t use it until that rushed Monday morning. I wanted to go for something “different”, yet work appropriate. And so sunburst lips were born.

Oh. And if you hear anyone use the words “sunburst lips”, they so got it from me. I’m just sayin’. I came up with it first. ;)

First, I lined my lips using MAC’s Vino lipliner.

I’m not gonna tell y’all how long I’ve had that lipliner. Is there an expiration date for lip liner? Anyone know? Anywhoovers, I applied Revlon’s Lip Butter in Raspberry Pie.

Yep. I am still religiously wearing that buttah. I love that buttah. At this point, I grab a lip brush and get to blending.

Blending is so important. It’s like the 2nd Beauty Commandment. After “Never Wear Black Eyeliner on the Lips”, of course. After blending, I dabbed Let U Go in the middle of my lips.

And ta daaaaah!

FACT: Everyone has at least one friend that regularly takes pictures of themselves and showcases those duck lips…

Don’t be that friend. 8) Sunburst lips paired with dual blue eyeliner is quite the unexpected look. I can’t stop wearing it. I think I’m going to go for a sunburst lip using purple lippies. Whatcha think?

If you give sunburst lips,  try…let me know!

Need a new lippy for the weekend?

Happy Fridaaaaaay!

Clumps dot com is doing some crazy stuff, y’all. And I can’t really explain it. If you received a Mascara Monday post in your RSS feed or email, please oh please ignore that. That post was SUPPOSED to go live next Monday. And if you’re viewing Clumps on your smartphone or desktop, some of the images have shrunk. So weird. I don’t know what’s goin’ on but as soon as Esposo can find the time to do the behind-the-scenes work, we’ll be back and running smoothly again.

What? You didn’t think I could figure out these problems, myself, did you? Ha! Anywhoovers – since I can’t seem to get through my scheduled posts, check out this list….

Some of my beauty bloggin’ gals and I compiled a list of some of our favorite lip products. Of course I had to highlight by beloved Fresh Sugar Lip balm. Check out what the other gals are lovin’.

What lip products are rockin’ your world these days?

Wet ‘n Wild’s Don’t Blink Pink lippy is ah-mazing!

I know I brag about Wet ‘n Wild a lot and I promise, y’all…I’m not exaggerating with this one. That sad thing is, back when I was a “I only buy higher end makeup snob.”, I laughed at WnW. I called their products cheap. And this was without having even tried them. What a loser, right? I’ve seen the light and now nothing can stop me from loving WnW.

Plus, you can’t knock a brand who has incredibly great nail polish for less than $2. I’m just sayin’…

Anywhoovers, check out this lippy…

This gorgeous stick of love goes by the name Don’t Blink Pink and has more personality than me after 2 sips of a wine cooler. I ain’t playin’. Swatches don’t lie.

DBP is described as a medium warm pink but for some reason, she looks super neon pink on me.

And that’s not the lighting. That’s how it looks in real life. Which is weird because I’ve seen this lipstick on gals of other complexions and it looks nothing like this. Madness, I tell you! Not that I’m complaining. DBP has some siblings that I will showcase soon but I had to single her out and show you her fabulousness. They’ll be popping up in drugstores this month for only $1.99. I know. I know. In-sane.

Just gorgeous. And since I am a genius who graduated Summa Cum Laude from a top Ivy League school in only 2 years, I accidentally broke off the lipstick.

I know. I’m so smart. By the way, I’m kidding about the Summa Cum Laude and Ivy League stuffs. I graduated without honors from a state college. Womp.

So yeah. All of that to say, keep your eyes peeled for Don’t Blink Pink. And who knows? Maybe I should do a giveaway for my International gals? Hmmm….

Black Opal’s True Color Lipsticks are the TRUTH!

Oh Black Opal. Your decision to step your game ALL THE WAY up in 2011 was such a wonderful decision. I am still floating in Black Opal Obsession Land and for very good reason. Not only are their lipsticks moisturizing and cost little to nothing, but they are shiny.

Yes girl. Shiny!!! I don’t think I’ve ever come across a lipstick with so much sheen. Say hello to Black Currant and Bon Bon.

And call me giddy, but I love how Black Opal displays the shade of the lipstick at the bottom of the tube.

Ca-ute! The good news is, it is aesthetically pleasing. The bad news is, the colors aren’t exactly dead on. Which makes me wish drugstore brands had testers so you can “Try before you buy”. I’ll save that rant for another day.  Let’s rap on Black Currant. Black Currant is a red superstar with blue undertones.

Richly hued gals, this is the kind of red lipstick you want to lean towards.

I couldn’t stop staring at my lips when I had this on.

It’s just fantastic. And then there’s Bon Bon….

Bon Bon is just okay to me. This is one of those shades that a lot of black women wore in the 90’s because we were too afraid to wear anything else. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not a BAD color, it’s just a little too throwback for my taste. And I feel all grunge when I wear it.

Still. It’s a moisturizing shade that works if this is your kind of color. Priced at $7.25 a pop, you can get these lippies online and you may be able to spot them in stores. I say “may” because while my Target carries Black Opal, a lot of them do not.

Have you tried any of Black Opal’s lippies yet?

Revlon Colorburst Lip Butters. I want them ALL!

It’s been forever and a day since a lip product has been captivating enough for me to shell out some pennies on it. WITHOUT coupons. That’s practically a sin, yo. Purchasing anything without it being on sale is painful but this lippie was the band-aid. Seriously.

Ole’ Rev has won some serious cool points with me regarding this Lip Butter in Raspberry Pie.

First of all, it’s a balm. And we all know how much I obsess over really like balms. As much as I love lipsticks and lipglosses, it’s the amount the balms that run my cosmetic bag. I was weary about trying this one simply because I didn’t want to be disappointed.

And let’s face it….did I really need any more lip balms?

Don’t answer that.

I scooped this baby up at Walgreens for $7.49 and let’s put it this way…I’ve been using it daily. Yo…when a beauty blogger uses a product daily, it’s the shizzle fo nizzle.

Remember that time Snoop Dogg had a TV Show called Doggy Fizzle Televizzle? Okay, never mind.
I’ll stay focused.

On zee lips:

Pro’s:
-Amazing color selection. There are 20 of them!
-Raspberry Pie is nice and pigmented.
-Feels wonderfully moisturizing on the lips.
-Unscented. I don’t like smelly lip products so I LOVE this aspect.
-Perfect for using with a lipliner.
-Long-lasting. I don’t have to apply for a good 3-4 hours. Not bad!
-Pretty packaging. It’s all luxurious…

Con’s:
-Can be pricey for some.
-Swatches on website/display are waaaay off.
-Can be difficult to find.

Those “Con’s” are relative of course but overall, I think these Lip Butters are amazing. I do want more. A lot more. I’ve scooped up Lollipop and Tutti Fruiti and will do a post on those too.

Have you tried these lip butters yet? Whatcha think?

Fabulous berry lips for a steal with Wet ‘n’ Wild Silk Finish lipstick

Lipstick and I have a rocky past. Until recently, I was very, very afraid of lipstick and gravitated more towards lip glosses and tinted lip balms; for some odd reason the idea of lipstick was just too much! Nowadays, I’m much more used to wearing color on my lips and I find it so fun to spruce up a look with a fun lipstick. The one I want to share with you today- Wet ‘n’ Wild Silk Finish lipstick in #522A Dark Wine- was my first “bold” dive into lip color.

I remember it like yesterday: it was a year ago in the fall, and I wanted to play around with color without breaking my student budget. I ran to my nearest Walgreens to peruse the beauty aisle, and as I glanced over the Wet ‘n’ Wild display, Dark Wine practically leaped off the shelf and into my hands. Was it possible to pay $.99 for a deep, berry red lipstick? Yes, indeed!

#522A Dark Wine is the only Wet ‘n’ Wild Silk Finish lipstick I own, but I’m in love with everything about it. The formula is smooth, pigmented, and long lasting. It provides opaque coverage in one application, and the color is just divine- the creamy, berry hue pops against my skin tone. At first I was hesitant to wear it- my favorite way to pull it off was to use it more like a stain. I would apply the lipstick and then dab my lips with a tissue to lighten it. As I’ve become more comfortable with it, however, I enjoy the bold look it achieves.

If you’re weary about how much quality can be packed into a lipstick less than one dollar, fear
not! Dark Wine lasts on my lips for 4-5 hours, even through eating. I wore it to work earlier this week and though the color needed touching up, I still received compliments on it after 7 hours.

The only complaint I have is that Wet ‘n’ Wild doesn’t offer many other wearable, frost-free
shades (many other Silk Finish lipsticks have an abundance of shimmer- if you like frosty
lipsticks, you are in luck!). Other than that, I’m obsessed with Dark Wine for its last abilities, smooth color, and comfortable wear.

If you’re in the market for a great dark red lipstick to complement your winter makeup wardrobe
(and on a tight budget like myself), definitely take a lot at what Wet ‘n’ Wild has to offer. This one ranks high on my list of favorites; I foresee getting plenty of use out of it in the coming colder months!

The Ultimate Stocking Stuffers – Lip Balms

Toss away my mascaras. Give away my blushes. Flush my eyeshadows down the toilet. But touch my lip balms, girlfriend and you just may pull back a nub. I don’t play when it comes to my lip balms. Hence why I love reviewing ‘em, collecting ‘em and giving ‘em away.

How’s this for a lip balm army?

Aren’t they just fantastic? Do any of these babies look familiar you? If not, I’m excited to be introducing three new brands that make soothing and moisturizing lip balms. Plus, if you’re looking for cheap stocking stuffers, lip balms are the best way to go!

Okay, you’re going to hate me for this but the brand is still in the process of launching their website.

Even so, Nature’s Lip Nourishment lip balms are one of my favorites because the main ingredient is shea butter.

Which is nuts! I’ve never had a lip balm with shea butter in it. I use the Kool Mint one every night right before bed. I’m addicted to it and can’t wait for the website to launch so I can deliver more information about pricing and availability to y’all. Next up is MoistStic, a brand whose inclusion of peppermint helps soothe the lips while the tea tree oil helps heal the lips.

At $2.59 a pop, you can grab these ultra-healing lippies from Target, Kroger and online. It isn’t the tastiest lip balm and has a medicinal smell to it, but if you don’t mind it, MoistStic makes for a fantastic winter balm.

The most flavorful of the bunch comes from Surya Brasil, a brand that you can find at Whole Foods.

This vegan brand has some of the of the tastiest lip balms I’ve ever tried. I mean – not that I go around licking balms but you know…it happens. From Acai Berry,Chocolate and Strawberry, I can’t really decide which one I like best.

These beeswax lippies go for $3.49 and would be perfecto if they had SPF in them.

Don’t ask me to choose a favorite. I love ‘em all!
