Amor de Lacquer: Diosa nail polishes

A few months ago, I was asked to be a be a featured Diosa. What’s a Diosa? She’s a woman in her 20’s or 30’s who inspires her peers and the girls in their lives who are in need of positive role models. The vision comes from Diana, a New York City native who wanted to create a brand of nail polishes that could also tell a story. You can learn more about Diana here. She’s pretty awesome. I wanted to show off some of the pretty Diosa polishes. If you love supporting indie nail polish brands, I think you’ll love this one.

See what I mean?

Puff Pastry is a super sheer jelly that would probably work best on an American manicure. I like it by itself though. Because it’s so sheer, it’ll take a good 3 coats to achieve some kind of opaque finish.

DSC_1716-001

Dawn Over Provence is a pale lavender. It’s got a dusty finish and while it looks great on solo, it’ll really shine with some kind of sparkle or glitter on top.

DSC_1722

Dime Piece is a grey. Can’t go wrong with grey nail polishes!

DSC_1729

Bali Blaze is a super bright red that leans more on the orange side. It’s goooorgeous.

DSC_1723-001

DSC_1731-001

Somethin’ Extra is a holographic glitter. It’s a stunner!

DSC_1742-001

Fuchsia Plans photographs funky but this is a gorgeous fuchsia. It dries down to a semi-matte finish. Of course a top coat will make it glossy but I actually really like the semi-matte finish.

DSC_1748-001

I Sea You is a bright blue that reminds me a lot of Nubar’s Blueberry nail polish. Which happens to be my favorite blue nail polish evahhhh! I Sea You is a close second. And as beautiful as it is, I love that it doesn’t stain the nails. Woot!

DSC_1759-001

Purple Reign is a dark purple polish that actually LOOKS purple on the nails instead of black. I love when this happens!

Diosa nail polishes apply beautifully. Some of the shades were a bit on the watery side (namely Puff Pastry and Dime Piece) so thin and even coats are the best way to apply these polishes. I’m lovin’ these inaugural shades. Diosa nails officially launched in July 2012 and I think this is a great intro to the nail polish world. You can buy these babies for $8 online.

Oh! And check out my Diosa feature here.

Sephora Houndstooth Mani Kit

‘Tis the season to start scooping up gifts and as a beauty gal, I can confidently say I know what other beauty girls want. Okay yeah, so not everyone is into nail polish. Fine. But nobody wants to walk around with raggedy and jagged nails. Which is why this Sephora Houndstooth Mani Kit is such an adorable stocking stuffer.

DSC_4088

Oh, and how lame is it that my current home doesn’t have a mantle? I move just about every year (one day I’ll settle in one place…one day) and most of my places have had mantles but not this one. *tears* Ahhh yes, but where was I? Oh yeah…this darling kit as a stocking stuffer.

DSC_4090

DSC_4094

Who doesn’t love the classic houndstooth design? I mean, honestly…the packaging is everything. And what’s inside ain’t too shabby either.

Ideal for tossing in a cosmetic bag or in some luggage for travel, this is just a nifty and uesful little kit. And uh, if you’re like me some of those tools can also be seen as multi-purpose. Like the little scissors? I would totally use those for grooming the brows. Or clipping my ‘stache. Yeah, I said it. I know I’m not the only one with a bit of fuzz on the upper lip. Such a sweet little kit. And it’s only $20 so there’s no bank breakin’ here. I scooped one up for a friend. You know…that friend that is also wanting something super useful and fancy and awesome just because you happen to be a beauty editor.

Way to go, Sephora! Scoop this up at Sephora stores and at Sephora.com.

Pretty Polishes: nails inc. The After Party trio

Soooo, once again I suck. I’ve been eyeing the brand Nails Inc. for many moons now and this my first time actually featuring some of their products on Clumps of Mascara. See how much I suck? Yeah. Badly. But hopefully you’ll forgive me when you see how awesome this After Party collection is.

DSC_3917

See what I mean? Look at all of that glittery, shimmery and holographic wonderness.

DSC_3914

I just sneezed glitter. I mean yasssss. This is what I’m talking about. And this little trio is only $25 which ain’t shabby for 3 gorgeous nail polishes. Let’s get a closer look at them, shall we?

DSC_3922

DSC_3934

Disco Lane is a black holographic shimmer and I can’t say much else because the description is right on. I love everything about this polish. I applied 3 coats of it to the nails and it looks a bit gritty solo but it shines beautifully with a top coat. I didn’t apply one here as I wanted to show the polish in its true form. I don’t have many black holographic polishes and it’s rare to find them THIS holographic-y. So yeah. I love Disco Lane. I love discos too. They should really bring ‘em back.

DSC_3938

DSC_3948

Soho Street is a chunky rainbow glitter and it’s not terribly unique as it looks like many glitter polishes on the market now. The good thing about this one though? It works beautifully for layering and it reaches an opaque finish at 3 coats. Not too shabby, uh?

DSC_3953

DSC_3961

Covent Garden Market is a red full coverage glitter and I fell in love with it at first glance. But applying this baby wasn’t easy. You can get away with 2 coats but I pushed it to 3 and when I did that, it started to drag on me a bit. But at the same time I felt like 2 coats weren’t enough. I’ve gotta tweak this one a bit because it’s such a beautiful red. I’ve GOT to make it work.

What a beautiful trio. And yeah. Only $25. You can grab it Sephora and Sephora.com. It’ll make the perfeeeect stocking stuffer for your favorite nail polish lovin’ lady or lad.

Pretty Polishes: Jesse’s Girl nails for the holidays

DSC_3967

Now y’all know I’m not one to do a bunch of crazy designs on my nails. I neither have the patience, time or uh…patience. Yeah. But simple looks like dots? Well, even I can do that. A dotting tool costs just a few bucks and as long as you’ve got some nice and opaque polishes, practically anyone (even the clumsy folx like me) can get do nice little Christmas-y polka dot nails. For this look, I used 2 of the polishes from the JulieG Holiday Collection by Jesse’s Girl Cosmetics. Remember when I reviewed some of those polishes? Yeah well, I’m still in love with them. Even if I can only get ‘em online. They are totally worth the shipping costs and all that jazz though.

DSC_3958

Big Red Bow is a cherry red with subtle shimmer and it’s such a sweet and shimmery red. It is definitely the ideal red for Christmas. I love it lots because I reached an opaque finish after only 2 coats. Hollaaaa!

DSC_3984

And then there’s Under Mistletoe, a pine green with subtle gold shimmer. It’s an interesting green because it isn’t super rich but still provide enough shimmer to where it looks pretty awesome on the nails. I didn’t think it would be opaque enough to show up well as dots over red polish but it worked beautifully!

There is also a gold, magenta and super awesome glitter polish in this collection and they can be scooped up at Rite Aid stores (if you’re lucky to live by one) or online for only $3.99 a bottle.

Any other Jesse’s Girl fans in the house? And have you ever done polka dots on your nails?

Amor de Lacquer: China Glaze Holiday Joy collection, part II

‘ellllooooo. We’re back with part II of the gorgeous China Glaze Holiday Joy collection. If you missed it, check out part I here. This half of the collection has quite a few surprises. And you know what the means…glittahhhhh!!!

2012-11-028

See! DSC_3857

Champagne Kisses is a bubbly rose gold glitter with a teeny bit of holographic shimmer. I didn’t expect this to be so glitterific, but it is. At the same time, it wasn’t too bad to remove which is great!

DSC_3877

With Love is a classic red crème with a hint of orange undertones. It’s squishy and pretty red. Nothing too strikingly unique though.

DSC_3895

Glitter All The Way is a multi-color glitter. It’s like Mardi Gras on the nails!

DSC_3908

Glistening Snow is the perfect name for this fine diamond-like silver glitter. It’s like the silver-y version of champagne kisses. It’s opaque and looks stunning on the nails. It’s a bit of a top coat hog so I had to apply a good 2 coats of top coat just to get some serious shine.

DSC_3911

Cranberry Splash is a ruby red shimmer and while thats’s China Glaze’s fancy definition of it, really it’s just more of a regular ole’ burgundy to me.

DSC_3936

Pizazz is a twinkling multi-dimensional glitter blend and it’s beautiiiiful. I mean, yeah…we’ve see beautiful glitters like this one but there’s something special about Pizazz.

The collection altogether:

China Glaze Holiday Joy 1

2012-11-028

Shouts out to China Glaze for giving us plenty of sparkle, glitter and shimmer in this collection! I think these are beautiful shades that are definitely holiday-appropriate.

This collection is currently in stores like Sally Beauty Supply and online at e-tailers like TransDesign.com.

Amor de Lacquer: China Glaze Holiday Joy collection, part I

Dang. How is it already the holiday season? Yes. My mind is indeed blown. I’m not complaining though. I am a huge lover of Christmas-EVERYTHING. And I know that’s not everyone’s shtick but I am will totally be that old lady that wears knitted Christmas sweaters. Without shame. Yep. What better way to ring in the season than with some pretty polishes? China Glaze is giving us a ton of beautiful options to bedazzle those nails. Here’s part I of the Holiday Joy collection.

China Glaze Holiday Joy 1

Excited yet?

Pure Joy

Pure Joy is a fiery red glitter with gold particles and it fooled me at first glance because I totally thought that it was a holographic. But nope, it’s a pretty and shimmery nail polish. I applied 3 coats here so it will wear well by itself but it’s also thin enough to be a layering polish.

Winter Holly

Winter Holly is a gold-flecked dazzling green glitter and it is goooorgeous. I can’t wait to create some looks with this baby. It has a similar finish to Pure Joy and while subtle, the gold holographic shimmer does a great job at coming through the green. I also spy some purple shimmer in this polish as well.

Red Satin

Red Satin is nothing fancy as it is just a silky blue-based red creme. Most brands always toss in a red nail polish in their holiday collections and this one is no different from all of the others.

Blue Bells Ring

Blue Bells Ring is an icy blue shimmer and I love everything about how this polish looks on my nails. It does have some drawbacks though. For one, it stains the nails so a sturdy base coat is a definite when rocking this baby. Also, for whatever reason this polish “smelled” differently than all of the others. As in worse. I’m not sure if the formula is different but it reminded me a lot of how polishes smelled before they were Big 3 Free. I actually had to tie a scarf around my nose to apply this polish. Still though. It’s such a beaut. I don’t think I’ll be wearing it often though because I tend to stay away from polishes that stain my nails. Getting them back to normal just isn’t worth the trouble for me.

Merry Berry

Merry Berry is a luscious rich berry red creme. It isn’t the most exotic polish I’ve seen from China Glaze but it has a great fit in this collection.

Angel Wings

Angel Wings 2

Angel Wings also fooled me because I so thought this baby was a holographic just from looking at its bottle. China Glaze describes this as a delicate gold dust glitter and it’s a beautiful golden crusted nail polish. The microglitter makes for easier removal and while it goes opaque with 3 coats, it does well with layering with 1 coat.

This collection is currently in stores like Sally Beauty Supply and online at e-tailers like TransDesign.com. Stay tuned for part II of this collection! See any that you like so far?

Amor de Lacquer: OPI Skyfall collection for Holiday 2012, part II

I’m back with round II of the gorgeous Skyfall collection. The first 6 were the red, orange and purple kids of the bunch. This time I’m showcasing the darker shades and the shades with texture. Woot!

OPIR

See what I mean?

OPII

GoldenEye is a glorious gold and it is by far one of the most beautiful golds I have ever seen. And that says a lot since I’m not a fan of gold nail polishes. The richness of this gold comes from the mini gold flakes in the polish. It’s stunning. If you don’t get any other polish, THIS is the one you have to get.

OPII2

MoonRaker is a metallic grey and I scoffed at it when I first saw it but it’s not bad for a grey polish. Application is tricky as it can be on the streaky side but if you’re into chrome polishes like this, I think you’ll like this one.

OPIIII

The Living Daylights is a multi-hue sparkle and really it’s just a bunch of color hexagon-shaped glitter bits. I don’t have any glitter polishes like this so it’s a welcome addition to my collection. All glitter lovers should own a glittah like this.

OPII3

Live & Let Die is described as a jet black but the it’s obviously so much more than that. I would describe this baby as a darkened hunter green with with subtle gold shimmer. It doesn’t look like much in the bottle but it absolutely gorgeous on the nails.

Rose

The World Is Not Enough is a rosy silver. It has subtle hot pink shimmer and I was all set to dismiss this one but it’s actually a really pretty polish. I still had a visible nail line after 2 coats so to achieve full opacity, you’ll have to push it up to 3 coats.

OPI43

On Her Majesty’s Secret Service is a misty-green pewter. It has the same shimmer as The World Is Not Enough and it’s just as sheer.

Must Haves
-GoldenEye: Because you’ll regret it if you DON’T get it.
-The Living Daylights: Especially if you don’t own a glitter like this.

The entire collection alllll together.

OPI

OPIR

Pretty dope bunch, uh?

Amor de Lacquer: OPI Skyfall collection for Holiday 2012, part I

Soooo, OPI recently launched a James Bond holiday collection. Bond 007 officially turned 50 this year and so what better way to celebrate than with a collection? I’m pretty lame for not knowing much about the flicks but when I told Esposo about this collection, he got all interested. Mind you, my husband has NEVER been interested about any of my beauty stuffs so that says a lot. Anywho, the most recent Bond movie, Skyfall, came out on November 9th and so this collection has come at the perfect time. It’s a huge collection of 12 polishes so I’m breaking ‘em up in 2 posts.

OPI
Ready?

OPI1

Skyfall is described as a magnificent maroon and I can dig it. I love dusty burgundy shades like these. It’s not terribly unique but it is ideal for fall and makes a great base for topping off with glitter.

OPI2

Casino Royale is a pretty plum and ZOMG, I am in love with this baby. I’m struggling to think of any dupes for this one so um, yeah…if you don’t get any other shades in this collection, this is definitely one that I’d consider.

OPI3

OPI4

You Only Live Twice is a rich high-shimmer magenta that we’ve seen before. It’s perfect and pretty and has enough shimmer to appeal to the glitter junkies of the world.

OPI5

Die Another Day is a hot and lively red. OPI is good at always including reds in their collection. This one is just okay to me. I do like how there is a bit of orange to it though.

OPI6

Tomorrow Never Dies is an intense purple but really it’s much more than that. And my camera can hardly capture its epic-ness. It shifts from a blueberry blue to a bright purple and back with the blink of an eye. It’s stunning.

OPI7

The Spy Who Loved Me is another red that looks a lot like You Only Live Twice. The main difference between the two? TSWLM has more red in it than orange.

Must Have
-Skyfall: Especially if you need a really nice maroon in your stash.
-Casino Royale: Because just look at the bottle. ‘Nuff said, right?
-Tomorrow Never Dies: If you’re a nail polish lover, it’s unlikely that you have one THIS captivating.

Not bad for the first 6, uh? Stay tuned for the other 6. This collection is currently available at Ulta and JC Penny Salons.
