Amor de Lacquer: Cult Nails Deception collection

Maria and the Cult Nails crew has done it again! A few weeks back, I managed to trek on down (or over…I need to look at a map) to the Cult Nails headquarters and attended a nail polish party/photoshoot with my fellow Beauty Bloggers of Central Florida gal pals. We had a BLAST! That was my first social event in months and I was glad that Baby Clumps didn’t have me feeling nauseous or uncomfortable. Courtney of Phyrra did an awesome post chronicling our fun time.

While there, we all got to play around with the newest Cult Nails collection…Deception.

I am beyond impressed and didn’t see this one coming! For one, all of these polishes are intended to be used as top coats. That means while you can wear them solo, they’ll look 10x better layered over another polish – especially a black polish. Like Cult Nails’ 1-coat wonder Nevermore. That polish isn’t included in this collection but I had to showcase it just to give you an idea of how great of a base it is with the Deception polishes layered on top.

See how beautifully dark Nevermore is?

Yes girl! If you need a lusciously creamy black polish that reaches an opaque finish with just one coat…this is it!

The Deception dream team…

Alter Ego casts a gold/green tinge over the nails. Which is weird because the polish itself looks like an opalescent pink, right? Very deceptive! When it hits natural light it gives off a shimmery hunter green effect.

Charlatan is multi-chromatic wonderment. I don’t really even know how to explain this one because it’s just THAT stunning. I found it to be the thicker of all 5 polishes but I didn’t struggle with application. Sometimes it looks like a shimmery blue and other times it looks purple. And sometimes it’s both. This is definitely my favorite of the bunch. Love love love!

Deception reminds me of those popular cotton candy-type shades from the 90’s. I actually really like it by itself but it looks fantastic layered over Nevermore too. It has a faint purple/hot pink shimmer that really comes alive when the nails hit the light.

Doppleganger is a milky kid that gives the nails a blue/green shimmer. It’s the most interesting of the top coats and at first I didn’t think I like it but after rockin’ it on the nails for a few days…it ain’t so bad. I can’t wait to play around with this one with other shades. Maybe layered over a dark blue? Hmmm….

Two Timer is deceptive too because while the polish looks gold, it actually looks more green on the nails. But not green like Alter Ego. This one is more of a jewel-toned green and doesn’t nearly have as much shimmer as Alter Ego does.

I swatched each top coat over my bare nails just to give you an idea of how they look by themselves.

Pretty awesome collection, uh? The options are endless and I find these fantastic for when you want to switch up your nail polish a bit without completely removing it. Maria has a ton of other layering options on the Cult Nails blog.

This collection is currently available for purchase at $10 a bottle.

Which top coat is your fave?

Amor de Lacquer: OPI Germany collection (part I)

Piccies1

Who wants to go to Germany? I dooooo! I love when OPI launches collections inspired by countries. One of my college girlfriends just moved to Germany (hey Kam!) and it’s taking everything in me  to not invite myself over. I’m pretty sure that when the baby in my belly is a good 6 months or so, I’ll be bookin’ a flight. Seriously.

My favorite thing about these kind of OPI collections? The names of the polishes! There are 12 kids in this collection but here’s round 1….

DSC_3709

Don’t Talk Bach to Me is described as a sassy lime yellow but I see it more as a silvery pistachio. If you’ve always liked lime polishes but didn’t like how bright they were, this is a nice polish to try.

DSC_3717

Schnapps Out Of It is a mauve but I see it as a dusty pumpkin. At first glance it looked like a Grandma color but once I got it on, it wasn’t so bad. I’m not sure if I’d wear it solo but I would so throw some glitter on Schnapps and keep on truckin’.

DSC_3725

My Very First Knockwurst is rosy-nude that I’d file under “Work Appropriate Nail Polishes”. Application was tough with this one and it took a good 3 coats for me to get it even.

DSC_3732

Berlin Done That looks like gray but really it has more of a dirty mop water hue to it. It’s a slightly more attractive color than OPI’s You Don’t Know Jacques. I’m not a fan of taupe shades like this. I wish I was but they always look so weird on my complexion.

DSC_3739

Deutsch You Want Me Baby? is a shimmery red orange and it’s a gorgeous addition to this collection. It reminds me of a less shimmery version of OPI’s DS Luxurious and isn’t as orange as China Glaze’s Riveting. It’s so pretty. Love this one!

DSC_3749

Don’t Pretzel My Button is a honey beige that I ended up liking more than I thought I would. I very rarely wear beige polishes but every now and then I like sporting a no frills kind of polish. DPMB is the perfect fix for that.

Must Haves:
-Deutsch You Want Me Baby?: A total must have if you’re a fan of the orangey red polishes of the world.
-Don’t Pretzel My Button: Because every nail polish lover needs a basic beige in his or her stash.

This first half of the OPI Germany collection didn’t impress me too much. I didn’t think any of the shades were THAT groundbreaking. The good news? The second half of the collection is full of beautiful vampy polishes…the kind of vampies that I LOVE wearing during the Fall. Stay tuned for Part II. In the meantime, if you’re swooning after any of these, I’ve spotted them at Ulta stores for $8.50 a bottle.

See any you like? Where my Germany girls at?

Pretty Polishes: Jesse’s Girl Julie G polishes

Back in the days when I was an active YouTube vlogger and watcher, I came across the effeversent and bubbly Julie G. I loved everything about her videos. She had the “BFF” vibe, and was always showcasing something beautiful when it came to beauty and nails. I met her in person at The Makeup Show NYC and she was just as sweet in person. A while back, Jessie’s Girl Cosmetics and Julie G. partnered up to launch a Julie G. nail polish line.

Um…that’s only the biggest deal EVER. Who runs the world? Clearly bloggers and vloggers! I’ve only got a few of these polishes to showcase (Jessie’s Girl isn’t sold in my area *tears*) but luckily I can order more online. Woo hooooo!

Gelato in Venice is a green mint that reminds me a lot of pistachio gelato. It’s creamy and like most pastel shades it gave me a few troubles with uneven application. I only had to apply 2 coats to straighten it out though. I’ve been wearing this shade for FOUR days now. I love love love!

Fierce and Fab is a pleasant surprise because it’s a matte! ‘Scuse the ugly bottle on this one. I’m not sure how the image got all wonky. I was annoyed with matte polishes when the whole world was doing them but now that they aren’t so popular, applying this one gave me so much joy. It’s a gorgeous magenta and I think I’ve seen this shade somewhere before but who cares. I am loving revisiting mattes.

Pink Tiara is a sparkly pink that is completely opaque with only 2 coats! It does great as a layering polish too. One coat will give you just enough to cover a polish but it’s refreshing to come across glitters that don’t require 30 coats to completely cover the nail lines.

Dance in the Dark is a blue polish with neon purple glitter. The glitter is pretty muted on the nail and I wish it translated more the way it does in the bottle. Still – it’s a very pretty true blue with personality.

Julie G. nail polishes are sold at Rite Aid and online for only $3.99. There are a toooon of beautiful shades and finishes so if you’re not feeling any of these, chances are you’ll run into something you like. More than anything, I think this collection appeals to me because it just shows how much of a positive impact us beauty vloggers and bloggers have when it comes to brands. I’m not gonna lie – I get a bit emotional about it. I am so so proud of Julie and will continue supporting her.

Have you tried any of these polishes yet? And who else desperately needs a Rite Aid in their city?

Amor de Lacquer: Essence’s pretty new bottles!

I freaking love Essence nail polish. Always have. Even though their bottle sizes freaked me out a bit (come on, Essence…you know they were too small) I was always in awe of the beautiful colors that they released. Very rarely do the affordable brands of nail polish come out with groundbreaking nail polish colors. I mean, it happens, but not every often. I can count on TWO sets of hands the gorgeous shades that Essence has. And now they’ve got larger and chic’er new bottles.

Looky!

Cute, right? I’ve got 3 shades here but I’m pretty sure I’ll be hoarding more. I am so in love with the bottle design, redesigned brush and beautiful shades.

L.O.L. is one of those Shrek greens that have been pretty popular. I’ve seen similar shades like this and if you’ve always wanted to snag one but didn’t want to spend a mess load of money on them, get L.O.L. It’s pretty, creamy and such an “interesting” shade that all nail polish lovers need to have in their stash.

Ultimate Pink is a hot pink and it’s a pretty awesome pedicure color.

Let’s Get Lost is more of a aqua blue but of course my camera is being nutty. As much as I love blues like this, I very rarely wear them because they always end up staining my nails no matter what I do. Grr.

Comparing the old Essence bottle to the new Essence bottle…

The newer bottle is just a bit taller but is obviously wider than the old bottle. Do you get as much product as say a bottle of Zoya?

Not really. But then again, this Essence nail polish is only $1.99. Oh! And then there’s the new wide brush.

…you’ll either love it or hate it. I actually really like brushes like these because I’ve got long and wide nail beds so I find them to be perfect in helping me achieve a smooth and even coat with just one stroke. I know I’m in the minority with the freakishly long nail beds so I’m pretty sure many nail polish lovers are not happy with the change.

But overall, I’m loving the updated look of these Essence nail polish bottles. They look classy, quirky and fun. I’m not sure if the update means they’ll be getting rid of the shades of the old bottles. I hope not because I’ve got some beautiful polishes in the old packaging that I don’t want them getting rid of. Time will tell… These babies are currently in Ulta stores and online too!

Any Essence nail polish lovers in the house? Whatcha think about the new bottle design?

Amor de Lacquer: Zoya Designer collection

I’m back with another collection from Zoya’s Fall 2012 collections. I’m still swooning over the jellies that were the Gloss collection. Designer features 6 shades of my favorite nail polish formula ever…creamies!! Woo hooo!

Look at those luscious creams!

Evvie is described as an evergreen green cream and it’s unlike any kind of polish that I own. It’s such a beautiful and smoky hunter green. Fantastic!

Rekha is a blood red cream and while Zoya has plenty of red cream polishes, this one isn’t as bright as the others. Don’t let this picture fool you. It is actually a bit more muted.

Natty is a smoked navy blue cream and it is perfection. I love true blue polishes but Natty is goooorgeous!

Toni is a dark maroon red cream and don’t ask me why but it looks to be more of the dusty berry side. Not that I’m complaining though.

Monica is a dark mulberry purple cream is definitely my favorite of the bunch. Of course I don’t NEED any more purple creams but man…Monica is so pretty!

Noot is a charcoal green gray cream and as much as a I like it, it looks a lot like Evvie – just not as gray. I love both shades but they definitely fooled me as they almost look identical at a quick glance.

Must Haves:
-Natty
-Monica

This collection is currently available on Zoya.com for $8 a bottle. See any that you like?

Amor de Lacquer: China Glaze On Safari Fall 2012 collection

I feel like it’s been forever since I’ve played around with any of China Glaze’s recent collections. I totally blew past their summer releases and I’m just stepping my toe into their Fall collections.

I’ve only got 4 of the 10 of these On Safari babies but they’re still pretty to look at.

Elephant Walk is such an interesting gray. I think I like it more than China Glaze’s Recycle because it’s got a tiny bit of shimmer. Oh! And ‘scuse the smudgey wudgey on my middle finger. Application was a bit wonky with this one. It’s a cool graphite gray  that is dusty and just fantastic. Of course it’s not necessary if you already have you fair share of grays but it certainly is a nice one to add to my collection.

Purr-fect Plum is described as a bold burgundy but I’d describe it more as a berry with personality. It’s not crazy unique but it’s smooth, creamy and applied flawlessly.

Man Hunt is a bold cobalt blue that is definitely one of the BEST polishes in this collection. Especially if you’re a lover of blue polishes. I’ve searched high and low for a strikingly blue nail polish that doesn’t stain the nails and is opaque after only 2 coats. Man Hunt is a winner. Love love love this one.

Adventure Red-y is described as a vivid red. It’s one of those reds that Mama Clumps wouldn’t let me wear when I was young. That said, I LOVE it.

There are some other highlights in this collection. There’s Call of the Wild, Exotic Encounters and I’m Not Lion. It’s not the most totally awesome and amazing China Glaze collection I’ve come across but it’s got a nice mix of traditional and unique polishes. There’s somethin’ for everyone. You can snag this collection at Ulta, Sally Beauty Supply and even cheaper online at TransDesign.com for only $2.99 a pop.

Have you grabbed anything from this collection? How awesome is that Man Hunt?!

Revlon Expressions Experiment – Red Lips Included

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Revlon for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

I love a good ole’ beauty challenge. And I feel like it’s been fo’eva since I’ve done one. For one, I’ve been mad lazy on the makeup tip. Powder, liner, mascara, gloss…done. The Florida heat plus pregnancy laziness put me in quite the lazy mode. Leave it to the Revlon Expression Experiment to drag me out of my haze.

Revlon is trying to inspire women to step outside of the box a bit and play around with makeup that they may not normally wear. Well, clearly I’m not THAT girl because I’ll wear anything. Especially when a red lipstick is involved.

Know what I mean? Let’s do a quick run through of what everything is before I showcase the look that I managed to crank out.

exp_exp_logo.jpg (2 documents, 2 total pages)

First up is the PhotoReady Eye Primer & Brightener.

I didn’t use it as a makeup primer but it did a darn good job at brightening under the eyes. Which, I can ALWAYS use. Then there was the PhotoReady Color Correcting Primer.

While I used this, I didn’t notice much of a difference in powder application or longevity. I reckon primers do 10x better when used in conjunction with liquid and cream foundations; 2 kids I don’t tango with in the summertime. Now that kit came with 2 eye shadow palettes but I wanted something neutral since I was going to be rocking an insanely red lipstick. And so I settled on Bombshell.

And then there were the lippies. Ooooooh, the lippies…

(L-R) Fire & Ice lipstick, Candy Apple Lip Butter and Sizzle Canicule Lipgloss.

Swatches of ‘em all…

Oh! And then gorgeous nail polishes which I totally forgot to swatch on the fingernails.

Wearing blue nail polish isn’t exactly out of my comfort zone so I’m pretty sure you’ll see swatches of that kid soon. I took all of the goodies in the beauty lab and got to work. The results…

Not too shabby, uh? I took these pictures before the right side of my face starting breaking out like you wouldn’t believe… I dig the philosophy behind this. Revlon is attempting to empower women by getting them to step outside of their comfort zone a bit and try something new in the beauty world. I’ve been screaming this for years. Go Revlon go!

Are you more of a “stick with what you know” beauty gal or do you like to play around and do different things when you can?

Amor de Lacquer: Butter LONDON Heavy Medal Metallic Nail Lacquer Trio

There are only few nail polish brands that I brag about. And one of ‘em is butter LONDON. But for good reason. I love how “involved” the brand was with the Olympics. Granted they’re British and the 2012 Summer Olympics were held in London but still…they could have very well ignored  the games like many other beauty brands.

But nope. They had a “Spirit to the Games” flash sale AND launched a limited edition Olympic Medal Metallic Nail Lacquer Trio on QVC. Um….wow!!! And considering the Olympics ruled my life while it was on (I’m still in mourning, y’all…) this was major! The QVC-exclusive deal goes for $29.75 which is a crazy deal!

Check out the shades…

The Full Monty is an opaque light gold metallic. I always feel like metallics look a bit funny of me and The Full Monty proved that. At the same time, as much of a gold fan, I am NOT, I kinda dig this light gold. It’s delicate and powerful!

The Diamond Geezer is an opaque bright silver metallic and it’s your basic no frills silver nail polish. It isn’t as chrome-y as some that I’ve seen but it’s got enough POW to appeal to you if you love shimmery silvers polishes.

The Old Bill is an burnished copper metallic. I’m not sure if it compliments my skin tone the best but I LOVE this one. It applied like buttah and has a such a nice and smooth finish. It gives my nails such a clean look. I love it!

Overall: Like all butter LONDON polishes, these applied beautifully. I applied 3 coats for each polish and got incredible shine without the use of topcoats. And I just really love the notion behind these polishes. I’ve been regularly watching the Olympics for as long as I can remember and I love that I’ve got a little memory of the 2012 Games in my nail polish collex. Oh, bL..I could hug you guys for this.

Because it’s a limited edition collection, you’ll want to jump on it ASAP. It is currently on QVC.com and the QVC Item is #A229333. Hop to it!!

Meanwhile, I’ll be reliving the epic and legendary moves from gymnastics, track and field and swimming. Olympics, come back!!!!
