Fall shades from NYX Cosmetics’ Salon Formula nail polishes

Oh snaps! NYX Cosmetics has always been mediocre when it comes to nail polish but they have just stepped their game up with their new nail polishes. 144 of ‘em to be exact. At $4.00 a bottle, I’m thinking that’s there’s got to be a polish with your name on it. While I’m not the traditional “stick to seasonal shades only” kind of gal, I am just lovin’ some of the fall shades that NYX has. Aaaaand, the formula of the polishes are pretty awesome too.

Gold is well…gold. It leans a bit on the orange-y side and has a nice foil-y finish. It almost looks like a lighter caramel with gold dust thrown in it.

Maroon should really have more of a descriptive name because it’s more than just…maroon. Okay, so yeah it is maroon but it has gorgeous bits of peach and neon purple shimmer. The shimmer doesn’t dominate the maroon shade much but its presence is quite complimentary and gorgeous.

Red Wine is a dark red creme that isn’t terribly unique. But never knock a good dark red. They are fantastic shades for nail designs and konading.

Power Red is just that. It is one powerful red! Despite what people say is professional or not, I’d probably rock a red like this to a job interview. This is the kind of red my Mom wouldn’t let me wear until I was in high school. Power Red has a ton of blue in it and if you aren’t the type to wear something as loud as a fire engine red, this one may suit you better.

I used 2 coats for each polish and even without a topcoat, they all had a nice and brilliant shine. The formula of these are nice but can be a tad bit on the watery side. Thin coats is the best route to take. If you’re in the market for new polishes, these aren’t bad. I think the price point at $4.00 is reasonable too. I can’t wait to try these out some of their glitter polishes. I’m impressed, NYX. You do polishes quite well. Get your shop on at NYXCosmetics.com.

Amor de Lacquer: Orly Birds of a Feather collection

This may be one of my favorite nail polish collections of 2011. Simply because it’s, well…it’s random.

While most nail polish collections follow a certain theme, this collection throws in polishes from various color families all free and willy nilly. Like a boss!! Orly was all like, “Forget what you know about collections where every polish has to come from a similar color family and finish.” This collection is so me. It’s awesome. Okay, well there is a BIT of a theme. Each of the polishes are named after birds. I don’t like that part because I actually really hate birds. They are just mean creatures. They’ll crap on your car instead of on a patch of grass. That’s just rude. But yeah, I digress.

Lucky Ducky is a true green creme that goes to an opaque finish with only 2 coats. It’s a fantastic green. It seems like this color should be yellow though, uh? That’s what I’m talkin’ about. Orly is so random. I love it!

Peachy Parrot is is a soft sherbet-y orange with streaks of silver. I didn’t think I’d like this shade when I first saw it but it’s actually quite fantastic.

Sea Gurl is really supposed to be “seagull”. Get it? Get it? Gosh, I love you, Orly. You witty thang you. In the bottle Sea Gurl looks to be a dirty silver but it has a bit of an olive touch to it. The chrome finish is just stunning on this one.

Sweet Peacock is perhaps one of the most beautiful blues that I have ever seen. It even trumps Zoya’s Tart and that is my favorite blue polish. This shocking metallic blue gives me life. Life!

Fowl Play is the shade that has us nail polish lovers going nuts. I can’t get over how beautiful this polish is. First of all…it’s a flakey. Nothing excites me more than a flakey. This dark berry polish contains bits and pieces of orange and blue glass-y lookin’ specs. It’s dynamic! While it does well on its own, when layered over another polish it can really pop.

Night Owl is hmm…how can I describe Night Owl? It’s a beige-y shimmery polish that may not flatter every skin complexion but is unique in its own right. It almost looks like mushy oatmeal. Without the oats.

Must Haves:
-Fowl Play: That’s a given. You pretty much need this polish.
-Sweet Peacock: Unless of course you already have something similar.
-Sea Gurl: This is such a chrome goddess of a polish.

I used 2 coats for each polish and didn’t use a topcoat. The formula was excellent. Orly polishes always have such great drying times on them. Oh! And who knew you could buy Orly polishes directly from their website? Snag ‘em for $7.50 a pop.

Amor de Lacquer: Essie Cocktail Bling Collection 2011

I haven’t hung out with good ole’ Essie since this summer. June to be exact. I loved that Braziliant collection. Essie is shocking me again! And that’s a good thing. While I love the formula of the polishes, when it comes to surprising me with super cool collections, Essie has never done that. If Essie were a girl, she’d be she’d be a prim and proper Prude-y Judy kind of gal. Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. I’m just sayin’…

I’m missing some of the polishes from this collection, but we’ll work with what we got, okie dokie?

Bangle Jangle is a lavender amethyst which looks to be dainty enough for those little girls whose Mommies won’t let them wear too much on their nails. That’s not to say that us older folx can’t wear it either. It’ a creme for goodness sakes. I have never and will never turn down a creme nail polish.

Size Matters is a blazing hot ruby-red that doesn’t look to be that much different from most red polishes. It’s a deep red so it’ll be perfect for the holidays.

School of Hard Knocks is so beautiful!! This teal reminds of of an old school chalkboard. You know…the ones teachers used to write on before they had those dry erase boards. I am loving everything about this teals. It is creamy perfection.

Cocktail Bling precious pale gray. It has a tinge of blue in it and is one of the more unique winter shades.

I’m missing Bobbing for Baubles and Brooch the Subject.

Have you spotted this collection in stores yet? Which one is your absolute fave? I’m voting for School of Hard Rocks!

Nail Art, Shmail Art

Dag. I haven’t done some nail art stuffs in forever yo. I don’t know what it is but man…I have really been falling in love this nail polishes these days. It’s like I can’t get enough of doing my nails. For once in their wretched little lives, they are finally growing and that couldn’t make me happier.

I scooped up my first Dior nail polish at the Lucky Dior Event. Apparat is a nice garnet.

Playing around with polka dots…

And the nail art pens…

Tis all.

Amor de Lacquer: Zoya Gems and Jewels Holiday 2011 collection

Who better to break in the holiday nail polish collections than my dear ole’ Zoya? This is one fantastic collection simply because it contains lots of stunning colors AND glitters. Yup.

Go ahead and get your dance on.

Izzy is a bright magenta that is just gorgeous. It has a bit of a foil-y finish and will make a fantastic pedi color.

Holly is a bright green metallic that rocks my world. I remember when there weren’t many emerald green polishes on the market and I’m glad to see another one.

Noel is a light denim blue. I can’t put my finger on any shades like it in my stash. I much prefer darker and richer blues but this one is okay.

Rina is opaque at 3 coats but I wanted to show you swatches of it at one so you can get an idea of how it looks on its own. Thank you for this one, Zoya! An emerald bar glitter? I don’t think we’ve seen anything like this.

Twila is another bar glitter with a bit of holographic shimmer in it. I used 3 coats for this one.

Kissy is like a party in a bottle. It is fantastic alone but really shines over Izzy. Izzy and Kissy. Hahahaa!

The corresponding colors and their glitters.

Holly and Rina

Izzy and Kissy

Noel and Twila

I really love this collection. I’ve never come across a Zoya polish whose consistency bugged me and these are no exceptions. I used 2 coats for each polish but did 3 coats for the glitter. I was glad to see that they gave me an opaque finish. It would have sucked something serious if these glitters were super sheer. This is one unique holiday collection and aside from it being a great little stocking stuffer, I think it’ll please nail polish lovers everywhere. You can get it online at Zoya.com for $8 a bottle or $48 for the whole set.

Must Haves:
-Holly: But only if you don’t already have a stunning emerald polish.
-Kissy: Nothing else like it exists. Well, not that I know of.
-Twila: Sheer blue beauty in a bottle.

See any you like?

Pretty Polishes: Wet ‘n Wild Diamond in the Rough

Nail polish fanatics are going nuts over Wet ‘n Wild’s Ice Baby collection. If you spot this collection in stores, get it now. I mean…NOW. These holographic glitters are ridiculously insane and there isn’t anything like them. I pretty much say that about everything though. One of the kids from that collection is Diamond in the Rough.

Craziness, right? I blurred out the last picture just to give you an idea of how sparkly this polish is. It’s one of the more chunkier glitters so that means removal will be PIA but it’s worth it. I actually really prefer this polish over black. It looks all galaxy-like ‘n stuff. See…

It is quite the chunk monster on its own.

Freaking awesome. It’s a little more expensive than most Wet ‘n Wild polishes and retails for a whopping $2.99. Total wallet breaker, uh? Save even more with Target coupons.

Amor de Lacquer: OPI Muppets collection, Part 1-The Glitters

Ohmigoodness, look! The Muppets have a collection!

How groovy is that?

Now I’ll be honest. I never got into the Muppets. I don’t recall ever watching any of the movies. In fact, the only Muppets I remember are Muppet Babies that used to come on Nick Jr. in the 90’s. I know. I’m such a child. I still know the theme song too.

Someone out there is probably like, “OMG B, how did you not get into The Muppets?” Your guess is as good as mine. But whether I knew them or not doesn’t matter. What DOES matter is that they’ve got a super cool nail polish collection. Let’s check out the glitters first.

Rainbow Connection  is total glitter bomb but you don’t need me to tell you that. Because the glitter in a clear base, I think 2 coats of RC would be fantastic over a darker polish. I’m still impressed at how well it does with 3 coats by itself though. I like this kid way more than I like Deborah Lippman’s Happy Birthday. Moreso Rainbow Connection is a lot cheaper.

Gone Gonzo. Look at that beautiful silver hex glitter! I don’t think I own any polishes that have hex glitters that stand out so much. Gone Gonzo is quite possibly my second favorite of the bunch simply because this glitter gave me an opaque finish with only two coats. Mind you, I did two THICK coats. It is still a sheer glitter.

Fresh Frog of Bel-Air. Such a cute and witty name, OPI. I see what you did there. 8) The emerald version of Gone Gonzo isn’t as opaque for me. I probably could have pushed it to the limit and applied a 4th coat, but I didn’t want to take it there. I can’t wait to see how this will look over an emerald polish.

Excuse Moi! is supposed to look like a hot pink but in reality, it’s more of a bright strawberry jelly pink on me. I think it’s fantastic. I used 3 coats for this baby too. If you look closely, the silver hex glitter looks to be smaller in comparison to the other glitters. Or maybe my eyes are playing tricks on me. I can never be sure. Plus, it isn’t sheer like its siblings. Score!

Divine Swine is a magenta glitter but depending on how you look at it, it can go for purple-ish too. DS layered over a dark purple polish would be sheer love. I can’t wait to try that combo.

Gettin’ Miss. Piggy Wit It. There goes another shade name that makes me giggle. Last but not least, GMPWI received 3 coats from me and will make a fantastic holiday color. This is red just screams “Christmas time”. Swine Christmas Time. Bahahaaaa! I crack myself up.

Like all glitters, these are a pain to remove. I have long stopped complaining about glitter nail polishes simply because, I love them. Don’t let the removal process of these turn you away from buying them. I do wish that they were all opaque but considering they are unique and have cool names, I can overlook the sheerness of some of ‘em.

My must haves of the bunch:
-Gone Gonzo
-Rainbow Connection
-Excuse Moi!

I’m almost positive that Rainbow Connection will be the first one to sell out so if you find these, grab them with the quickness. They are in stores now.

Wet ‘n Wild Saved by the Blue nail polish

I love these cutesy nail polish names that Wet ‘n Wild have. They make me all nostalgic. I used to watch Saved by the Bell every morning while getting ready for school. I was like a junior and senior attending Lincoln High School and I wanted nothing more than to have the life of the kids at Bayside. Just as cool as Saved by the Bell is Saved by the Blue…

What a sick blue, yo. 2 coats and 1 top coat gave me this beauty. Stunning, right? Retailing for $2, it’s almost a sin to not own this. Especially with it being so cheap and all.

It almost reminds of Zoya’s Tart but I think Tart is just a liiiittle darker. While it has a bit of sparkle to it, Saved by the Blue could almost pass for a creme.

Well, maybe not. I don’t know. I’m really struggling to find the words to describe this epic polish here. This is when being a beauty blogger sucks.

Is it just me or is this blue just…blue-tiful?

Okay sorry. I had to do it. 8)
