FOTD Friday: Holiday Look

Fa la la laaaa…it’s Friday! And 6 days before Christmas. I have yet to do any Christmas shopping. Not because I’m not in the mood but I am finding it so difficult to buy gifts for people who seem to have….enough. Am I the only one who feels like this?

The good news is I am still in the Christmas spirit! I wish I could have worn this look last week to a Toy Drive that my office sponsored. It’s a very simple look done with some of my favorite products in my little collection:

That Bobbi Brown Shimmerbrick (1 of 3 BB items that I own) in Bronze is seriously one my of favorite beauty products EVER! I didn’t want to do anything too overpowering with red and green like I did last year:

This year’s look is a little more subtle and definitely wearable to the office holiday party.

Here’s what I used….

FACE:
MAC Studio Finish concealer in NW45
Bobbi Brown Shimmerbrick in Bronze (cheeks)

EYES:
Too Faced Shadow Insurance
NARS Emmanuel eyeshadow
Bobbi Brown Shimmerbrick in Bronze
Urban Decay 24/7 liner in Covet
MAC Blacktrack Fluidline
Prescriptives False Eyelashes mascara

LIPS:
Clinique Red-y to Wear High Impact lipstick

That Clinique lippie is wonderful! It’s red but soft enough for you “I can’t wear red lipstick yet” ladies.

Not sure how festive my nails are though.

But if you are in the market for a black nail polish with beautiful silver glitter….Sally Hansen’s Raven Ring is hotness!

Is this work place appropriate or what? Does anyone have any upcoming holiday/family parties? Tell me about your looks!

I hope yall have a wonderful weekend! Don’t hesitate to drop me an email at Brittany@ClumpsOfMascara.com telling me about all of your holiday finds.

Stay beautiful!

Amor de Lacquer: You can grow long nails!

Welcome to another post of Amor de Lacquer….the series all about nail polish and nail care! Send me your requests, suggestions and ideas at Brittany@ClumpsOfMascara.com.

I didn’t plan this post but I just had to share some posts that 2 of my favorite nail bloggers have done. Polishing your nails is one thing but taking care of them so that they grow nice and long (if that is your preference) is another thing.

  • Steph over at Nail Juice was a chronic nail biter for 17 years and now you can’t even tell! She drops some tips on how you can keep your nails growing long…and beautiful like hers.
  • I would have never thought that Katee at E-Polishblog ever had shorter nails, but she did! She too drops some tips (including my favorite: wear rubber gloves when cleaning) on how you can go from little nubbies to longer and more beautiful nails.

What kind of nails are you rocking? Short? Long and witch like? Acrylic? Non-existent? Tell me! I’ve always had freakishly long nail beds that are pretty sturdy so that’s one gene that I thank the parentals for.

And you know that no post is complete without a NOTD (nail of the day).

China Glaze’s Romantique collection doesn’t come out until January of 2009 and I really had no intentions of snagging anything from it until I saw Katee’s swatches. I ordered Harmony and Joy and here is the beauty that is Joy.

It only took 2 coats from this metallic iced grape color to come out perfectly. I topped it off with Seche Vite top coat and it lasted for a good 2 days. It looks a little bling-y inside but outside it is more subdued and just perfect.

What do you think about this color? Not your style? A must have?

Polish Pretty,

Amor de Lacquer: Soft Cremes

Welcome to another post of Amor de Lacquer….the series all about nail polish and nail care! Send me your requests, suggestions and ideas at Brittany@ClumpsOfMascara.com.

Lately I’ve been toning it down it down in the nail polish area. I had fun with my reds and dark purples but I’ve always felt that my nails just looked BETTER with a nice coat of regular ole’ off pink polish. I love using polishes that you would normally use with a french manicure over my entire nail. My nails look healthier, more professional and I feel like such a lady.

Check out one of my top 20 favorite polishes ever:

N.Y.C.’s Love Letters

Seriously…I will probably get married in this color. You won’t catch this Bridezilla at a nail salon a few days before her wedding. Oh noooo. Just grab me a bottle of this beautiful off pink creme and I will polish my own nails a few hours before the ceremony.

My only issue with Love Letters is that it doesn’t last for nothin’. The ONLY top coat that I have found that works well with Love Letters is Seche Vite. And if I don’t use that…the polish will literally be chipping after only a few hours.

I had to use 4 coats to get the look I was trying to achieve and in this photo I was rocking Love Letters for 2 days. I love love loooove you, Love Letters. For less than $2, you will always have a permanent spot in my nail polish collection. You can snag this polish and more from N.Y.C. Color Cosmetics at Target, Wal-Mart and drugstores. Okay, one more glaze at Love Letters. Doesn’t this polish make my nails look like they were done by a professional? Loves it!

…but wait—this color, I think, has a muted gray/tan color.

Check out Essie’s Great Expectations

I needed a good 4 coats for this one too but I just love it. So simple.

I’ve got enough crazy colors in my nail polish stash but soft cremes will always have a special place in my heart. Do you have any favorites? Tell me!!

Stay beautiful,

Amor de Lacquer: Courtney’s Edition

Welcome to another post of Amor de Lacquer….the series all about nail polish and nail care! Send me your requests, suggestions and ideas at Brittany@ClumpsOfMascara.com.

Hey Guys its Courtney aka “Not Ur Sister” meaning I am Brittany’s sister :/ lol I tried out some new polishes that I loved to death that wanted to share.

I bought two Polishes at Sallys. Both were $5.99 from China Glaze. A brand that I love! …and there was a buy one, get one free sale. YAY ME!!!

I applied two coats to each nail then I applied a lovely top coat that my sister suggested called “Poshe “. I really likes these colors and I was inspired to get them because it’s cold outside and when I think of winter, I think of blues, silvers, golds and whites.

The Frostbite blue is so pretty. I usually change my polishes every two days but I may keep this one on for awhile. The Posche top coat really makes it shimmer.

I kept this one on. Even up until the Florida vs. Florida State game…I work at Florida State University and don’t think people would liked me very much wearing the hated rival school colors…lol.

The Platinum silver is a really pretty color to something I would wear daily and it is really pretty. It stands out without being too flashy.

ByeBye for now…watching my 1st christmas movie of the season…lol

B says…

Amor de Lacquer: China Glaze Ruby Pumps

Welcome to another post of Amor de Lacquer….the series all about nail polish and nail care! Send me your requests, suggestions and ideas at Brittany@ClumpsOfMascara.com.

If I could hail any nail polish as the “ultimate holiday color”, it would be China Glaze’s Ruby Pumps. I LOVE this color. It is a beautiful dark red but has bright red shimmer. It isn’t your traditional “red” nail polish as I find those to be pretty boring. If I’m going to wear red, I want it to have a little personality. This is it!

Ruby Pumps, however, does not like to be photographed. Just how different she looks with and flash and without flash.

To be honest both colors are OFF and don’t show the true beauty of this polish. I applied 3 coats and topped it off with Poshe fast trying nail polish. I used my Konad m36 for the ring finger.

Ruby Pumps-FLASH

Ruby Pumps-NO FLASH

this is probably the closest that
Ruby Pumps looks in real life.

My cuticles are havin’ some issues these days no matter how many times (at least 4) a day I moisturize them. :( No worries…they’ll be up to par sooner rather than later. You can purchase Ruby Pumps at your local Sally Beauty Supply store ($6.00) or at my favorite e-tailer: Head2ToeBeauty for only $2.99!

Until next time….stay beautiful..oh and any time you see the Honey Pot banner, that means Clumps of Mascara is having a giveaway!

Don’t forget to dip your hand in the honey pot for a chance to win a Mary Kay Ultimate mascara…a mascara that I am sending high praises to! View this post for details……and of course I’ll ship to other countries! Contest ends on Monday, December 1.

Amor de Lacquer Debut!

Welcome to the inaugural post from the Amor de Lacquer series! Do yall like that name? It took me ages to come up with something witty, catchy and memorable. Please visit the poll on the left hand side to tell me what you think about this series. I’d greatly appreciate it!

Amor de Lacquer will discuss any and everything under the nail umbrella…and let me tell you, that encompasses a lot. We can talk about upcoming collections, general nail care, what not to wear (neon green polish at an interview? Uhhh…) and even nail news. Like…..fish pedicures and men rockin’ nail polish. Yes, despite what you may think or have heard, nail polish is HUGE. And I’ve got a list of bloggers around the world who would co-sign to that statement.

“But B….I don’t even wear nail polish.”

“I’m a chronic nail biter.”

“Colorful tips and designs are so 8th grade.”

Yeah…I’ve heard it all. No matter your position on nail polish/care, I think you will find some interest in this series and enourage you to send me an email any time you have an idea or suggestion.

So what do you think?

An excited new venture for Clumps of Mascara?
A waste of time?
Don’t care either way?

An Amor de Lacquer post will never be complete without a NOTD (nail of the day). Check out a sloppy application of Zoya’s Kalista from their winter Flourish collection.

Zoya describes this color as “Metallic mahogany brown with gilded sparkle highlights” (source). I would say that’s a pretty accurate description. I only needed two coats and topped it off with Poshe fast drying nail polish.

I used Konad m36 plate for the ring fingers.

You can cop Zoya’s Kalista for $6 at zoya.com. Yes, they are only sold online. And don’t get to gripping. The customer service and shipping is amazingly FAST! And this is coming from a chick who hates ordering online.

Stay tuned….and stay beautiful!

Sista Show Off: Nail Polish Blogs

It’s no surprise that I have a slight obsession with nail polish. I always manage to slide in a NOTD (nail of the day) or drop the skinny on nail polish collections that catch my eye. Perhaps nail polish and designs are more attractive to me because of the boredom I have been feeling with make-up collections lately. My “slight obsession” with polish is virtually a lifestyle for some ladies out in the blogosphere. Just when I thought that beauty bloggin’ was where it’s at I stumbled across some fantabulous nail polish blogs. “Oh! Em! Gee!” Check out my favorites!

Scrangie

I looove Scrangie’s blog. Just the other day I spent about an hour looking at her archived posts and kept “Ohh-ing” and “Ahh-ing” at everything. Scrangie keeps you up to date with all things nail-related. Designs, looks, newly released collections, colors, finishes, requests? The good ole’ Scrange has it all. Warning…spend more than 5 minutes on her site and you will be coveting quite a bit.

The Nailphile

Talk about crazy close-ups and beautiful nail beds. In my dreams, I would be able to sport nails this long. The Nailphile is one of my favorite nail blogs because I just love the intensity of the colors she swatches. Just beautiful!

The Polish Addict

More beautiful swatches and fabulous designs! Can’t get enough of this site. I blame her for cyber-making me order that bulk of Misa polishes. And she endorses Obama? Heyyyy!!!

I have these blogs and more in my Google Reader. I’ve been running into so many great nail blogs that I’ve created a blog roll over there to the left of my page.

Check out the looks I’ve been sporting lately…

NYC’s Moten Metal
DESIGN: O.P.I.’s Take Me to the Taj Mahal
and Sally Hansen’s Alchemy

O.P.I’s That’s Berry Daring some
DESIGN: random black and white polishes

O.P.I’s Take Me To the Taj Mahal

I’m finding myself incorporating some funky design to each look I do. While I am currently rocking the latter I can not WAIT until my order of Zoya polishes from the Flourish Winter 08 collection come in. Formaldehyde and DPB free polishes? Yea mon!

Polish pretty!

….and while I’ve officially endorsed Barack Obama a loooong time ago I can’t express to you, my blog family, how excited/nervous/scared/thrilled/proud I am about today. I doubt I will get a wink of sleep tonight. We are watching history and I’m glad to have been able to experience some of it through Clumps of Mascara. Thank you to my readers, fellow bloggers and all of those beauty companiesgetting folx to vote. This election has been more than politics for me. This is a dream that I hope will become reality tomorrow. Enough of the yadda yah! I’ve Ba’Racked the vote and leavin’ the rest up to God.

Beauty Review: Sinful Colors nail enamel

Welcome to day 2 of Week ‘O Reviews. I have dedicated this week to providing your reviews in all areas of beauty….face, hair, and nails!

My love for nail polish and at home manicures and pedicures continues to grow. I can’t help it! Growing up I always had a nice little caboodle dedicated to nail polishes. 60+ polishes later and I am often found with polishes in my purse, applying top coats in my office and moisturizing my cuticles during traffic. I just love nail care and design. And I love doing it myself!

One of my favorite nail enamel companies is Sinful Colors; a brand found at your local Wal-greens. When I tell you the performance of these polishes is amazing….I mean it! They come in a variety of colors, have seasonal collections and check this….they are only $1.99 a bottle! And sometimes you can catch a BOGO! Can’t be that with a stick, as my Mommy would say!

For these polishes to be so cheap, they certainly have fantastic staying power. I’ve been wearing Purple Diamond for 3 days in this picture.

Wait…pause for the cause—I looooove this color. I’m not a glitter fan but the finish of Purple Diamonds is fantastic!

Of course the number of coats is dependent on the color and finish (cremes, glitters, opalescent, etc) but either way, I am always impressed with the initial application. I can’t say how great they are with touch-ups because I am usually changing my nail color every 3-5 days. Are they comparable to the O.P.I, Essie and China Glaze? Absolutely! Here’s my SC family…

(from left to right)

-Coco Diamond (Lumines Que Collection)
-Burgundy Apple
-Purple Diamond (Lumines Que collection)
-Bahama Sunset
-Black On Black
-San Francisco
-Pink Diamond (Lumines Que collection)

-The Lumines Que collection is currently in Wal-greens’ beauty department. However, you won’t find them by the regular stash of Sinful Colors. Check near the door where the “new collection docks” are. <--former Wal-greens employee here, trust me on this, lol!) Online shopper? They do have a website but the polishes run $2.50 a pop. Oh no, I don’t THANK so. 😉

I give Sinful Colors an A+!! Have any of you purchased some of these polishes? Your favorites? Any recs? Oh–while you’re exploring SC, check out cosmetics from Jordana. They are usually located right by Sinful Colors. Jordana has the cheapest liners/glosses ever and they are amazing!
