Beauty Review: Dazzle Dry System

Welcome to another post of Amor de Lacquer….the series all about nail polish and nail care! Send me your requests, suggestions and ideas to

I was given the opportunity to test drive the Dazzle Dry’s Quick Dry Nail System kit. If you aren’t familiar with this brand, here are some quick tidbits.

  • The supreme 4-step system for natural nail manicures that air-dries THOROUGHLY in a dazzling 5-10 minutes (um, it’s actually less than that).
  • Free of formaldehyde, nitrocellulose, toluene and phthalate.
  • Formulated for natural nails to keep polish lasting longer (not recommended for use on acrylic and artificial nails).
  • Lacquers contain a UV screen for color protection.

If you purchase the kit, you will get all of this…

Dazzle Dry Nail Prep
Base Coat
Color Lacquers (2)
Top Coat

In my video review, I apply each of the products and show just how quickly the products dry. I even run my finger over water. This stuff is serious!!

Dazzle Dry Nail System Kit from Clumps of Mascara on Vimeo.

It works!! No….I mean, it really works. My nails are ready to go in 2 minutes or less. The entire kit retails for $54 which is a little steep for nail products, in general. I am “into” my nails more than the average person so this is one investment that I can justify indulging in.

Do you have to use Dazzle Dry polishes with the base and top coat?
Actually, you don’t. I’ve used the Nail prep and both the base and top coats with several other brands and it worked perfectly. However, using THEIR color polishes ensures that the polish dries almost instantaneously. Which is to be expected.

Here’s my NOTD (nail of the day) using Dazzle Dry’s Scarlet Desire. I used the entire system and only did two coats of Scarlet Desire.

How gorgeous is that color? I love this system and highly recommend it! Check out the Dazzle Dry System and other cool thangs at

Polish pretty,

Amor de Lacquer: Zoya’s Twist Collection, Part 1

Welcome to another post of Amor de Lacquer….the series all about nail polish and nail care! Send me your requests, suggestions and ideas to

If I could be BFFs with a nail polish collection, I am thinking that Zoya’s Twist would be it! What a fun Spring collection. It offers a little something for every one. And of course, I think it is brown girl friendly. I have been getting quite a few emails/comments about “polishes that work for brown skin”. You know me—I think we can rock anything! But for yall’s sake, I will identify the polishes that aren’t as flattering on us. How’s that sound?

First up, Cassi. This color is described as a shimmering soft pink and I agree. It is just that! I was happy to have it as I don’t have any color in my collection like it. I think I would prefer it more on the toes than my fingers but she is a beaut nonetheless.

Now we have, Malia! Ohmigoodness, I love this color. I knew I would love it for two reasons alone: it’s purple and it’s a creme. My weakness!! And it doesn’t help that it has the same name as my darling baby cousin, Malia Obama. This color is described as a violet creme and man oh man does it look beautiful. It looks like one of those pastel easter eggs. My loctician couldn’t stop complimenting me when she saw me in this color.

If purple is my favorite nail polish color than grays would probably come in at a close second. I can’t get enough of them and Harley rocks my heart. This soft shimmering gray looks divine! I thought it would look like O.P.I.’s Sheer Your Toes but it is a more intense shade of gray and I think I prefer this one better. It’s an unexpected color from a nail polish Spring collection but I adore it.

Got your eye on any of these babies here? Buy these and more for $6/bottle at Or better yet, get the Sampler for only $36! Stay tuned for Part 2 of Zoya’s Twist Collection.

Your fellow nail polish junkie,

Amor de Lacquer: Polish Storage

Welcome to another post of Amor de Lacquer….the series all about nail polish and nail care! Send me your requests, suggestions and ideas to

Once upon a time, a few months ago, maybe….I didn’t have many nail polishes.

“B!! Surely, you jest.”

Noooope, it was until very recently when I have started collecting nail polishes. This time last year I had less than 15. Now I have over 100. Which I know is more than the average person’s but I bet my favorite nail bloggers have three times as many. Nonetheless, if you walk any where in my super neat room, you are bound to find a bottle of nail polish somewhere.

By the television…

On the night stand…

They are every where!! I am still storing them in a crate in my closet.

What a mess! And that’s just half of them. My accessories are cramped somewhere else and it’s getting a little frustrating. I am a neat freak and I can not stand clutter or an over-abundance of anything. So it looks like I will be giving away the colors that I don’t use/like. But in the meantime I have to figure out how to house them neatly. Any suggestions?

How many nail polishes do you have? Give me an average number…

ETA: I have sense changed my nail polish set-up. Check it out here.

Polish pretty,

Amor de Lacquer: Zoya’s Tart

Welcome to another post of Amor de Lacquer….the series all about nail polish and nail care! Send me your requests, suggestions and ideas to

I am so enamored with nail polishes that I had a hard time trying to figure out which ones to take with me on my trip to Atlanta. I seriously stood looking at my 100+ stash trying to figure out which bottle would be one of the “lucky ones”. Zoya’s Tart managed to catch my eye and I proclaimed it to be my official birthday polish color. Tart did not disappoint.

It took only 2 coats to get the bottle color. One coat could have probably done the trick because the color is so rich. I have been using the Dazzle Dry Nail System for my base and top coats and it is AMAZING (review coming soon). Zoya’s Tart lasted a good 2 days, which is darn near a record for me considering I polish my nails every day. I loved wearing this electric blue on my birthday. I don’t get to play around with brighter colors because of work so this was a nice little treat for me.

Of course I had to be all extra with it.

Yes I was playing “celebrity” in that little get-up. My best friend went around honking and I waved to people telling them that it was my birthday. I’m a mess like that.

So thank you, Zoya Tart. You made my birthday so cool….like icy cold blue.

Okay….I thought it was funny. Smile because I know you thought so too. You can purchase this Big 3 Free polish from for $6. As a matter of fact…you can actually get it for free! Zoya has a dynamite trade-in deal going on right now. I say you dive in. Zoya’s selection and polish formulas are insanely amazing. Click the image below for details.

Amor de Lacquer: OPI’s Can You Dig It?

Welcome to another post of Amor de Lacquer….the series all about nail polish and nail care! Send me your requests, suggestions and ideas to

My Step-Mom has created a little tradition for the ladies of my blended family. Every “day after Christmas” for the past few years my 3 younger sisters and I have been treated to spa pedicures and manicures.

Since I’ve been all about self-nail care, I haven’t had a manicure and pedicure in a salon in months! I’ve gotten so good at doing them once a week at home that I don’t even bother with the spending the money getting them done elsewhere.

It took me forever to select a polish. And then it called my name.

Check out OPI’s Can You Dig It? from their Psychedelic Summer 07 collection.

I’m a little upset that the nail technician filed my nails so short. Ugh! They will take forever to grow back. Katee, I’m feelin’ your pain, sister. The nail technician did 2 coats and topped it off with a basic top coat. Words can not express how much I love this purple! Actually, I have an affinity for purple polishes…

…and that’s not even the half of ’em.

Back to the topic at hand. Here’s Can You Dig It? sans the flash…

Of course I had to cop it for myself., my #1 polish e-tailer has it here and I’m getting it for only $4.75. *does the bankhead bounce*.

Loves it! What are you rockin’ on your tips at the moment? Can you get down with purple polishes or not so much? Tell me!!

Stay beautiful,

FOTD Friday: Holiday Look

Fa la la laaaa…it’s Friday! And 6 days before Christmas. I have yet to do any Christmas shopping. Not because I’m not in the mood but I am finding it so difficult to buy gifts for people who seem to have….enough. Am I the only one who feels like this?

The good news is I am still in the Christmas spirit! I wish I could have worn this look last week to a Toy Drive that my office sponsored. It’s a very simple look done with some of my favorite products in my little collection:

That Bobbi Brown Shimmerbrick (1 of 3 BB items that I own) in Bronze is seriously one my of favorite beauty products EVER! I didn’t want to do anything too overpowering with red and green like I did last year:

This year’s look is a little more subtle and definitely wearable to the office holiday party.

Here’s what I used….

MAC Studio Finish concealer in NW45
Bobbi Brown Shimmerbrick in Bronze (cheeks)

Too Faced Shadow Insurance
NARS Emmanuel eyeshadow
Bobbi Brown Shimmerbrick in Bronze
Urban Decay 24/7 liner in Covet
MAC Blacktrack Fluidline
Prescriptives False Eyelashes mascara

Clinique Red-y to Wear High Impact lipstick

That Clinique lippie is wonderful! It’s red but soft enough for you “I can’t wear red lipstick yet” ladies.

Not sure how festive my nails are though.

But if you are in the market for a black nail polish with beautiful silver glitter….Sally Hansen’s Raven Ring is hotness!

Is this work place appropriate or what? Does anyone have any upcoming holiday/family parties? Tell me about your looks!

I hope yall have a wonderful weekend! Don’t hesitate to drop me an email at telling me about all of your holiday finds.

Stay beautiful!

Amor de Lacquer: You can grow long nails!

Welcome to another post of Amor de Lacquer….the series all about nail polish and nail care! Send me your requests, suggestions and ideas at

I didn’t plan this post but I just had to share some posts that 2 of my favorite nail bloggers have done. Polishing your nails is one thing but taking care of them so that they grow nice and long (if that is your preference) is another thing.

  • Steph over at Nail Juice was a chronic nail biter for 17 years and now you can’t even tell! She drops some tips on how you can keep your nails growing long…and beautiful like hers.
  • I would have never thought that Katee at E-Polishblog ever had shorter nails, but she did! She too drops some tips (including my favorite: wear rubber gloves when cleaning) on how you can go from little nubbies to longer and more beautiful nails.

What kind of nails are you rocking? Short? Long and witch like? Acrylic? Non-existent? Tell me! I’ve always had freakishly long nail beds that are pretty sturdy so that’s one gene that I thank the parentals for.

And you know that no post is complete without a NOTD (nail of the day).

China Glaze’s Romantique collection doesn’t come out until January of 2009 and I really had no intentions of snagging anything from it until I saw Katee’s swatches. I ordered Harmony and Joy and here is the beauty that is Joy.

It only took 2 coats from this metallic iced grape color to come out perfectly. I topped it off with Seche Vite top coat and it lasted for a good 2 days. It looks a little bling-y inside but outside it is more subdued and just perfect.

What do you think about this color? Not your style? A must have?

Polish Pretty,

Amor de Lacquer: Soft Cremes

Welcome to another post of Amor de Lacquer….the series all about nail polish and nail care! Send me your requests, suggestions and ideas at

Lately I’ve been toning it down it down in the nail polish area. I had fun with my reds and dark purples but I’ve always felt that my nails just looked BETTER with a nice coat of regular ole’ off pink polish. I love using polishes that you would normally use with a french manicure over my entire nail. My nails look healthier, more professional and I feel like such a lady.

Check out one of my top 20 favorite polishes ever:

N.Y.C.’s Love Letters

Seriously…I will probably get married in this color. You won’t catch this Bridezilla at a nail salon a few days before her wedding. Oh noooo. Just grab me a bottle of this beautiful off pink creme and I will polish my own nails a few hours before the ceremony.

My only issue with Love Letters is that it doesn’t last for nothin’. The ONLY top coat that I have found that works well with Love Letters is Seche Vite. And if I don’t use that…the polish will literally be chipping after only a few hours.

I had to use 4 coats to get the look I was trying to achieve and in this photo I was rocking Love Letters for 2 days. I love love loooove you, Love Letters. For less than $2, you will always have a permanent spot in my nail polish collection. You can snag this polish and more from N.Y.C. Color Cosmetics at Target, Wal-Mart and drugstores. Okay, one more glaze at Love Letters. Doesn’t this polish make my nails look like they were done by a professional? Loves it!

…but wait—this color, I think, has a muted gray/tan color.

Check out Essie’s Great Expectations

I needed a good 4 coats for this one too but I just love it. So simple.

I’ve got enough crazy colors in my nail polish stash but soft cremes will always have a special place in my heart. Do you have any favorites? Tell me!!

Stay beautiful,
