What would you do for longer lashes?

Have you ever thought about it?

I mean, really….

Clumps of Mascara focuses on all areas of beauty with mascara (obviously) being the product we show the most love to. I enjoy reviewing them because the demand is there and for whatever reason a lot of us are sooo in love with the idea of having thicker and longer lashes.

But how far would you go?

Check out this parody. It makes you think…

Thoughts? Funny? Scary? Or are you just speechless?

Thanks Aziza

Amor de Lacquer: OPI’s YDKJ in 3 forms

Welcome to another post of Amor de Lacquer….the series all about nail polish and nail care! Send me your requests, suggestions and ideas to Brittany@ClumpsOfMascara.com.

Dear O.P.I.
Y’all are real funny. Who comes out with three polishes with three different finishes but yet they have the SAME name? Come on now…. Are y’all trying to confuse me? I’m just sayin’….Love you anyway, though. You’re one of my favorite brands of polish and I can’t wait until y’all drop a polish named ‘Cause Everybody Ain’t There Yet” or “You Don’t Know Me Like That” or “Tweet Ya Later”.

Nooo, I didn’t really send O.P.I. that letter. But I may.

Raise your hand if you remember me first reviewing You Don’t Know Jacques? I labeled it as a “yuck color” on brown skin. I’m sorry….but this color was anything but flattering. Nothing NOTHING was going to make me like it. Oh..you don’t remember what it looked like?

It’s not pretty on me. And you know what? I’m fine with that. But what I’m not fine with is O.P.I. forcing me to like this color. How, you ask?

These jokers have come out with TWO other You Don’t Know Jacques’ with different finishes. See!

What in the post-it orange soda hell is this? Hmm….a matte and a suede? Surely they will look as crap-tastic as the predecessor, right? Umph!

Just look at this matte…

Well….wait a minute. It’s not SO bad. Definitely not as bad as the original. It applied flawlessly and only needed two coats. O.P.I.’s extra wide brushes are total BFFs with my longer nail beds. As a matte it looks more unusual than just downright ugly. I can deal with unusual. Shoot, I’m unusual. So this I can do as a matte.

Surely the suede finish can’t top this. Remember I’m supposed to loathe YDKJ.

*blinks* Is this the same color? Wait a minute….how is this possible? You Don’t Know Jacques with a suede finish looks….beautiful??? I feel tricked. How did we go from the original color that looked like dirty mop water to this stunning gold and brown love affair? I mean, look at it. It looks like gold and brown shared a passionate kiss. The result? You Don’t Know Jacques suede. I love it. I think it’s one of the most attractive colors I have ever seen.

Talk about a magic trick.

Yes y’all….they’ve fooled us. Or at least me. I-I-I-I like You Don’t Know Jacques. I really do!

You can be a high roller and pay a good $9 and up for the YDKJ….or you can get them from online retailers like TransDesign and pay around $4/bottle.

What do you think? Is YDKJ better in a matte or suede? Do you love the original?

Your fellow nail polish junkie,

Beauty Review: MAC Dazzleglass Creme

‘ello darlings!

I plan to crank out quite a few posts on lipsticks, glosses and balms. There are so many hot ones on the market right now and the gloss fiend in me wants to explore them allllll.

And with that, let’s bring it on!

MAC Dazzleglass Creme
in Do It Up

I think the whole world knew how much I loved the original Dazzleglasses. I pretty much lived in Funtabulous for a good 3 months. They are full of glitter, can jazz up a lipstick and have good staying power.

Now MAC rolls out with the Dazzleglass creme. Are these just as great? I’ll say! I found them to apply similar to a Dazzleglass but with a creamier feel. The lips still more moisturized and it wasn’t as sticky as a Dazzleglass.

But you still get the the glitter effect if that’s yo thang!

I think I’m in love with these. I probably won’t purchase more than two because I’m cheap and I think the $18 price tag is a little steep. Hey, that rhymed!

….no but seriously. While I do love these babies I find that they tend to go pretty quickly if you use them regularly. It’s not the best beauty investment for my budget but at the same time a good two or so in my collection adds some diversity to the gloss family.

Not to mention Do It Up ain’t too bad on the lips.

Whatcha think?

Have you tried any of the Dazzleglass creme lippies yet? Love ’em? Hate ’em?

Beauty Review: Hirsana Capsules

Heyyy mamas!

How many of y’all have tried taking capsules? Beauty capsules, I mean.We spend a crap load of money on creams, lotions and serums. But think about it….clear skin, healthy hair and strong nails all start from within. I am a huge proponent of a healthy diet, vitamins and drinking a ton of water daily.

I gave Hirsana Capsules a spin a few weeks back and I think the results may surprise you. But first…let’s see what these babies claim to do.

“Extremely rich in vitamins, nutrients and minerals, golden millet oil has been proven to positively affect the growth and regeneration of hair, skin and nails. Hirsana golden millet oil capsules not only promote strong, thick, shiny hair but also help prevent hair loss. The capsules support natural skin functions, contributing to a healthy, radiant complexion. Hirsana also adds strength and luster to nails, fortifying, conditioning and brightening from head to toe.”

You read right. Hirsana capsules help beautify three areas most of us want radiant at all times; hair, skin and nails.

Did it work?
I already actively take a multi-vitamin, Vitamin C and fish oil pills so I was skeptical. But within a few weeks my nails were stronger than they have ever been. I’m talkin’ nails of steel! I can’t say much about my hair growth since my hair is in locs and as far as my skin? I didn’t notice much of a difference in that department but I’m sure with continued use, I may see some results.

What’s in the capsules?
Formulated with 200 mg of pure golden millet oil, each Hirsana capsule contains the following nutrients and associated health and beauty benefits:

* Essential Fatty Acids: Strengthen the skin’s barrier and regulate moisture content
* Vitamin E: serves as an antioxidant and protects against free radicals
* Vitamin B6: boosts metabolism
* Thiamin: promotes normal nervous system function
* Riboflavin: supports the formation of blood cells
* Pantothenic Acid: regulates the metabolic process for energy recovery
* Biotin: plays an important role in metabolic processes
* Zinc: supports the buildup of protein produced within the body

…..a ton of vitamins! No dangerous formulas here, folx. As always, consult with your doctor before consumption. Once you get the go, give these babies a whirl. I think they are worth a try!

30 capsules will run you $36 which is a bit steep but hey—we spend that much on a few glosses and shadows. Even my cheap self can’t put a price on health. Really!

You can purchase ’em at www.hirsanausa.com and www.skinstore.com.

Amor de Lacquer: Diamond Cosmetics’ Matte collection

Welcome to another post of Amor de Lacquer….the series all about nail polish and nail care! Send me your requests, suggestions and ideas to Brittany@ClumpsOfMascara.com.

Are you sick of matte nail polishes yet? Because I’m not. I have reviewed quite a few from various nail polish brands. They all had their issues. When I tell y’all Diamond Cosmetics’ mattes were the easiest to deal with…I’m so not kidding!

Check ’em out!

Matte Mulberry took me by surprise. I expected it to be super matte, but it wasn’t. It was opaque in only one, that’s right ONE coat and quickly became my favorite in the bunch.

Matte Burgundy is so much fun! I was afraid that it would look super dark on the nails but it didn’t. It stayed true to its name and will definitely be one of my top color choices for Fall!

Matte Smoke is a matte gray without shimmer or shine. After purples, greens, blues and oranges (hehe!) grays are my favorite nail polish colors. Smoke didn’t give me any issues. It took longer to dry than the others but who am I to complain when I ended up with a fabulous mani?

Matte Black is just that. A matte black. I own about three of these and this one is probably my favorite. Flawless application, opaque in two coats and long lasting. Loves it!!

The gang altogether!

Well well wellll, another reason why I am a Diamond Cosmetics fan. These mattes are incredible, y’all! I didn’t have any issues that are prevalent with most mattes. These issues include:

-Chipping within hours
-Drying too quickly resulting in uneven coverage
-Not drying quickly enough
-Applying messily

They are buttery smooth and all are opaque with two coats. These are not super matte-y. If you have been itching to try mattes but don’t too much like the “matte” look…these may be right up your alley.

And guess what? They are only $2.

That’s it. Seriously the best deal ever.

Buy these and more for $2/bottle at DiamondCosmetics.com.

Think these will make you fall for mattes? Have you tried any of Diamond Cosmetics’ polishes?

Your fellow nail polish junkie,

Amor de Lacquer: Konad Nail Art 101

Welcome to another post of Amor de Lacquer….the series all about nail polish and nail care! Send me your requests, suggestions and ideas to Brittany@ClumpsOfMascara.com.

Lemme tell ya, kids….konading is one thing. Taking pictures of konading AND doing a video on konading is a whole ‘nother chore. But I had to do it after receiving so many requests from my YouTube fam.

If you follow me on Twitter you know that on most weekends I tweet what I call my “Weekend manicures”. These looks are usually outrageous, not safe for work and all around fun.

Last week I tweeted this…

This was my first REAL deal Konad. I’ve had the system for months but it wasn’t until last weekend when I really went crazy with it.

What is Konad?
Simply put—a nail art system. I remember seeing these things in the mall when I was in middle/high school and thought they were super lame. I always thought they were for little girls who wanted to play “Let’s go to the nail salon”. Don’t know what I was thinking. Konading is a heap of fun. But is it easy to do?

Not for newbies….i.e. me. It’s a process really.

First you have to get the kit. This includes some nail art plates, a stamper and scraper. I purchased mine at a kiosk in an outlet but you can also get them from websites like this one and this one.

Then you polish your nails. With any polish. I chose Diamond Cosmetics’ mattes. OMG, these are incredible–review coming soon.

Let the nails dry and apply a polish over a nail design on one of the Konad plates. Like so….

Use the scrapper to remove polish from the outside perimeter of the plate.

Take your stamper and stamp! The design transfers from the plate to the stamper.

This is the tricky part. The part that I ALWAYS screw up on…….transferring the design to the nail. My nail beds are wide and long. These designs never really cover my entire nail. Not even my pinky!

A few minutes later and I’ve done the entire hand….

Konading is still a challenge for me. Stamping my middle fingers is a nightmare. I end up having to stamp twice and then the designs overlap and it’s not as fancy and neat as the other nails. In my experience, Konad works well with all of the nail polishes I have used. The white polish is a “Konad Special polish” but I have also used a China Glaze, Essie and Zoya with no problem.

I did a video too! OMG, it took me forever, y’all…..LOL!

What do you think? Into Konading? Wanna try?

Your fellow nail polish junkie,

FOTD Friday: Purples Lips, part III

Yesss, purples again. I know, I know…they are the source of my beauty inspiration these days. Last week I did purples on the eyes and this time I took it back to the lips. Now I’m no stranger to lavender lips. Y’all have seen me in them here and here. To say I’m a fan of purple lips is an understatement. I flippin’ love them!

MAC Violetta is not a newbie to MAC Pro. It’s been awhile for a minute and every time I stop by the store it is staring me in the face and calling my name. I’m not kidding. This color is fierce.

Violetta is all kinds of dopeness. I knew it would create a bangin’ purple lip. MAC defining it as a bright clean violet purple is so right on.

I even decided to add another lip liner to the 4 or so I have. I love my Nightmoth but it can be a little too dark. Even with a light hand, it can dramatically change the look of your lipstick.

Vino is a lot more forgiving.

Vino is the bottom line. HUGE difference, right? So..I went ahead and got to work.

And here’s what I ended up with…

Eh. I mean, I like it but I needed some thing else. Something that would really kick the purple up a notch.

And I found it.

Ta dahhhh!!

Now that’s what I’m talkin’ about. Make Up For Ever’s Glossy Full Couleur is perfect for topping off a purple look. By itself it isn’t too pigmented but when layering…oh wowsers!

And I should mention that this gloss is pretty minty and uh…tasty.

Purple-y glossy goodness!

Purple lips make me so happy!

I so don’t need any more purple lipsticks. I’m done.

I think.

Have an awesome weekend!!!

Stay beautiful,

Amor de Lacquer: MAC Nail Trend FW09 by Jin Soon

Welcome to another post of Amor de Lacquer….the series all about nail polish and nail care! Send me your requests, suggestions and ideas to Brittany@ClumpsOfMascara.com.

Hey peeps! So I did an impromptu poll of nail polishes collections I should review next. And guess who won?

Mickity mickity MAC!

I’m so lame….lol.

But really…it’s been awhile since I’ve played around with MAC Cosmetics. It’s not that I don’t love them anymore. I just enjoy exploring other brands. Namely the cheaper *cough* brands. Jin Soon for MAC had me swooning when I first saw the swatches at All Lacquered Up (hey Michelle!). She gave the collection some serious justice. But I felt compelled to only snag three polishes. For Fun, Dance All Around and Dark, Rich, Delicious seemed to be pretty dupe-able.

Check out my trio!

Cool Reserve is described as a dirty grey lavender. It is quite reminiscent of Zoya’s Malia. Malia is a little darker though. I have a weak spot for purples…especially lilacs.

Beyond Jealous is described as a blackened blue green. Ohhh weee, it does my heart content. I wish it was more green than black though. In the bottle in daylight it looks dark green.

And even on the nails it looks green-y.

But without a flash….

Black! It’s fiyah nonethless.

Dry Martini is described as a khaki olive green. I knew right off the bat that I wasn’t really going to like it on my nails. But I wanted to get it anyway. I love funky colors like this–even if I don’t think they compliment my nails well. Dry Martini kinda looks like mud on my nails but somehow…I like it.

But then the weekend hit and I had to top it off with yellow polka dots.

I only have two other MAC nail polishes. And I don’t remember them being this impeccable. They dry REALLY quickly. I applied two coats with each and by the time I was done with each hand, the other was already dry. One time for MAC!

Buy these and more for $12/bottle at MACCosmetics.com.

Diggin’ em? Passin’ em on by? Whatcha think?
