ChapStick True Shimmer Strikes again…

Okay, so remember once upon a time I did a review on Chapstick True Shimmer and everyone was like, “OMG, these are the best things ever!”? Random: I just clicked on that review and WHOA I look like I different person. In a good way though. I think. LOL.

But I digress…

Well ladies and gents (Clumps men, where ya’ll at?) Chapstick has two new flavors.

In zee blue: Peppermint Rush
In zee purple: Blended Fruit Sherbet

Chapstick can really get you into some trouble with these delicious flavors. One minute you’re putting this stuff on your lips and the next thing you know you’re craving red velvet cake like mad.

Or maybe that’s just me. HA!

Look at the shimmery goodness…

Lusciously shiny and tasty. I love these more than the first two flavors I reviewed. The peppermint REALLY tastes like a peppermint. And the Blended Fruit Sherbet made me all nostalgic thinking about my Grandma in Miami who loooved to give us orange sherbet for dessert. Yummy!

Being the flavor mixtress that I am I had to..

Oh and they look good too. You can snag these babies anywhere Chapstick products are sold.

Beauty Review: Q-Tips Vanity Packs

Okay fam….guess what this is,

Don’t scroll.

Not yet.

Not yeeeet

Did you guess what it was?

Giiiiirl, I bet you didn’t think it was this!

How cute is that? Q-tips are now housed in these darling little vanity packs. I loooove Q-Tips. I practically grew up on these things.

And I’m not even going to front…..I used them for my ears. BUT, you’re not supposed to. You can do some damage to the ear canal stuffing a Q-Tip up in there so….

Big no-no to that. But there are so many other wonderful things Q-tips can be used for.

Smudging the eyeliner….

-Cleaning up mascara mess-ups…

-Spot treating pimples. Unfortunately, I have to do this EVERY day.

Aaaand, this may just be me but I use Q-Tips dipped in Seabreeze to cleanse the itchy areas of my scalp in between washings.

Yep. I’m givin‘ you the “I should be embarrassed about doing this but I’m not” look. LOL!

So I do hope you have some Q-tips in your beauty arsenal. They are multi-purpose, efficient and uhh…cheap. This vanity pack is only going to cost you $3.19. And I will definitely be re-using that darling little box. The greenie in me wants to grow a plant in it.

Yeah mon!

You can sang these where-ever Q-tips products are sold.

What do you think?

A Q-Tips fan?

Amor de Lacquer: What The Polish Addict Says…

Got another tip from one of my favorite nail polishes bloggers!!

Stephanie from The Polish Addict

“Different base coats work differently for different people but a good base coat makes a world of difference in terms of wear time, prevention of yellowing, and some even help to make difficult to apply polishes easier to apply. My personal favorites right now are Barielle Camouflage and Zoya.”

Polish Pretty,

Amor de Lacquer: Man Glaze polishes

Welcome to another post of Amor de Lacquer….the series all about nail polish and nail care! Send me your requests, suggestions and ideas to

Guess what’s in the hoooouse?

Matte polishes, yo!! They are poppin’ up everywhere. Seriously…..brands like Nubar, Zoya, Essie, and O.P.I. are all launching matte nail polish collections this year. I’m excited!!

And here’s the thing about matte nail polishes: you either like them or you don’t. It’s that simple. That have ZERO shine and are great for a nice edgy look. While they do have their issues, I find that the look is well worth it.

Matte nail polishes aren’t THAT innovative. I remember Maybelline launching them back when I was in middle school circa 1997. It was a super sheer purple that dried to a matte finish. I LOVED it.

Man Glaze polishes are big free polishes that were created for—men. Yep, guys. Fellas. Dudes. But who says us ladies can’t rock them?

The names are so man-ly. LOL!!

Death Tar-(my description)-a matte black with hidden silver shimmer
Fuggen Ugly-(my description)-dark concrete with a silver shimmer

First up is Death Tar with flash…

I kinda dig it! But look how it looks without flash.

I think my tweeted photo shows the matte-ness in all of its matte-y essence!

I REALLY love The Death Tar. I have always been a fan of black polish but I love it even more without the shine. Application was a bit tricky though. If you zoom in on the photos, you’ll see a few specks that popped up under the polish. But it didn’t bother me simply because The Death Tar dries in a minute flat. 2 coats is good!

Now for Fuggen Ugly WITH flash….

….and without:

I love how this color looks on but I HATED the application. And I hated how it chipped within an hour of me wearing it. No bueno. The application was streaky and around the second coat, I found that it would drag….making for unevenness. But I still love the color nonetheless. I’m just too lazy to tweak it and make it work. I want it to already be perfect. LOL!

Sooooo, overall….I like Man Glaze. I am in love with The Death Tar and only “like” Fuggen Ugly. I think both are worth a buy if you are trying ease your way into matte polishes. They are $6.66 each and shipping was fast. You can get them here.

Whatcha think? A fan of matte polishes or not so much?

I will be reviewing a great deal of matte polishes in the coming weeks, so stay tuned!

Your fellow nail polish junkie,

Mascara Monday: Maybelline Pulse Perfection vibrating mascara

It seems like it has been quite a while since I have done a mascara review. I’m glad that good ole’ Maybelline Pulse Perfection is breakin’ a sista’s hiatus. This is another one of those “highly requested for review mascaras”.

This is the FIRST drugstores vibrating mascara. Well, SpinLash did come out a year or so ago, but this is the first we’ve seen from a big name cosmetic company.

Is it amazing?
Is it everything you thought it would be?

Take a look…..

Maybelline Pulse Perfection
vibrating mascara

Price: 3 out of 5 ($14.99—pretty pricey for a general drugstore mascara purchase, but after all….it does vibrate. )
Packaging (Brush Wand): 5 out of 5
Overall: 4.5 out of 5

What it claims: I can show you better than I can tell you! Here is the packaging’s claim:

The truth:
Well, it’s not your average mascara! That’s for sure….

What I loved about it: The Define-A-Lash wand. The mascara’s name in its entirety is “Maybelline Pulse Perfection BY Define-A-Lash. So that’s what you can expect as far as the wand’s look goes. Despite not being an enormous fan of Define-A-Lash (check out my review here) I have always loved its wand. It is perfect for ladies with smaller lids/lashes and gets into those small corners beautifully.

I also like the packaging’s other details. Aside from showing you what the wand looks like before you buy it, it also tells you how to use it!

What I didn’t like: I found that the vibrating was a little too much….at least for me. I don’t have “sensitive eyes” but the vibrating even had my eyes welling up a bit. I also found that it tends to get a little clump-alicious around the 2nd coat. Three coats is definitely a no-no with this mascara as you will certainly be entering Clumps City

Overall: Despite the two or so downfalls I am CRAZY impressed with this mascara. Maybelline has always managed to impress me as far as mascaras go and Pulse Perfecting definitely takes the cake as my favorite Maybelline mascara.

Wait…no, maybe not. I am still married to Lash Stilleto but don’t tell Mr. Pulse that. HA!

Seriously, if you are looking for length, Pulse will give it to ya! Volume? Mmm, it could definitely be better in that department, but it’s not bad. I guarantee that you will be too busy being impressed at the length to even care about volume. I didn’t experience flakiness throughout the day.

I really do wish that I didn’t experience clumps around the 3rd coat—but I did. I wanted to get as much length as possible but Mr. Pulse wasn’t havin’ that. So be careful.

Lashes without mascara
(did not curl lashes)

Lashes with 2 coats of mascara

Would I recommend it?: Absolutely! Aside from it being fun to use it really does give you insane results.

The video reaaallly shows the what the vibrating wand does.

Has anyone tried this mascara yet?
Interested? Not so much? Whatcha think?

My dry skin battle

Hey guys I have DRY skin mainly on my face. I tried almost every moisturizing face cream i could afford and I settled on cocoa butter because that’s the only (cheap) thing that worked for me. Until I got a recommendation from Luxetips for Lumene Radiant Beauty Drops.

They come 28 in a jar for a 28 day treatment. But I honestly saw results during the first week of applying the formula to my face and neck. Its really light! Here are the capsules

Here is the formula It glides on easily and I really have smooth glowing skin now. So if the winter months had you dry and peeling check out CVS and pick you a jar up for 23 dollars.

Amor de Lacquer: Diamond Cosmetics’ Summer collection

[scheduled post–I am traveling. Email me
with any questions.]

Welcome to another post of Amor de Lacquer….the series all about nail polish and nail care! Send me your requests, suggestions and ideas to

Today I will be introducing you to a brand that is new to me. Diamond Cosmetics asked me to review their Summer 09 Collection and I couldn’t be more happy that I did.

Here is a little more information about the company:

“Diamond Cosmetics, Inc. is a manufacturer/distributor of quality cosmetics. The bulk of our business includes nail products, such as nail enamel and nail treatments, as well as lip products, such as lipstick and lip gloss.

We first opened our doors in 1982 and began by selling eye and lip pencils to retain chains and independent drug stores. Since then, we have expanded our scope of business to include 3 separate divisions: retail, professional, and private label.” (source)

I could do a whole blog post on how awesome it is that they do private labels but to get more information about that, click here. In the meantime, let’s check out the hot summer collection!

Don’t Teal My Heart Away did not photograph as nicely as I wanted it to. The color is really a lot more vibrant in color and is the PERFECT teal. The color is unique in a sense because $0.25 from each bottle is donated to the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition. Beauty and a cause! You know I love it.

Now what color does this one look like? Oh, Tiff could be China Glaze’s for Audrey’s long lost cousin. I couldn’t do a comparison because in a massive “clean out and give away” moment, I gave away For Audrey. I suppose Oh, Tiff is just as wonderful. The application was to die for!

Fiery Coral may look red but really it is coral with a kick. It is a cream that isn’t terribly unique. I’m not sure how I feel about corals against my skin tone. I don’t hate them but I don’t run to them either. Fiery Coral is still hot, though!

Here comes my favorite color out of the bunch! Hot Summer Pink is officially my “Trip to the Bahamas 2009″ color. I love love love this one. I saved the flash on this photo only because WITH the flash, it is insanely bright. It has tiny blue/silver glitter particles in it that makes it look a little more neon. I can’t say enough of that this color. It is just awesome!

Awww, it’s another creamy baby pink. Pink polishes have never been my favorite but when they are creams, I tend to like them a little more. Cotton Candy looks good enough to eat and is sweet on the nails.

I had trouble photographing Pink Passion too. It isn’t as dark as it looks in the photo. It is really more of a muted magenta. I am sure there are many colors like this one too but colors like this are always welcomed in my collection. When I don’t want crazy colors but don’t want to leave the nails bare, I rock colors like Pink Passion.

I applied 2 coats with each color. All were used over Zoya’s Nail Ridge filler.

Overall I think Diamond Cosmetics’ Summer collection has something for everyone. It will appeal to the safe-color wearin’ ladies and the crazy color wearin’ chica like myself. I am THRILLED that they are Big 3 free meaning they don’t have DHP, toluene and formaldehyde. Yesss! Another brand lacking the yucky chemicals. I love it! Aaaand….they are only $2!!! Not bad at all!

These colors haven’t popped up on their site yet but they have a ton of other colors that I have my eyes on. You can find out more about DiamondCosmetics here.
