Happy Earth Day!

Happy Earth Day!! That beautiful logo comes from an organization in Ohio (hi Grandma!) called Picture This. For 2 days, Central Ohioan volunteers will plant trees and clean up their beautiful grounds. I decided to feature this logo because wow….it says a lot!

I’m not going to pretend like I am a veteran Earth Day celebrator. In fact, this is my FIRST year really recognizing it. But better late than never.

I spent some time outside with Mother Earth yesterday and basked in her beauty. I don’t think I will ever take Floridian weather for granted–at least around this time of year. Every day is a beautiful day. When I think of Earth I immediately think of the colors green and blue. So I snapped some of Earth’s natural colors and also showed off my replicas of those colors via beauty products/looks. And of course the former poet in me had to drop cheesy haiku.

GREEN
Yep. Our Earth is green.
Green like the land all over.
But are we green too?

Green polishes arguing about who will make it in the photo shoot…

They managed to get it together.Only my favorites made this cut.

Green MAC/Milani shadows had to make an appearance. Including that glittery Swimming. That was my 2nd MAC shadow.

Green eyes.

BLUE
Oh blue is the sky.
Regal. Despite pollution
So is the sky blue?

(think about it…heavy, uh? LOL!)

My blue polishes are a little more civil than the green polishes.

A MAC palette of blues.

Blue eyes..

I am doing better with being eco-friendly. I recycle when I can, bring my own bags when I go grocery shopping and marvel at Earth a few minutes a day. And instead of buying a crap load of bottled waters, I now have a water filter. Earth takes care of us. Let’s take care of her!

Amor de Lacquer: Simple Nail Art

Welcome to another post of Amor de Lacquer….the series all about nail polish and nail care! Send me your requests, suggestions and ideas to Brittany@ClumpsOfMascara.com.

Okay, I will be honest.

I’m really not IN to nail art. I can admire it all day. I may even play around with it a little but at the end of the day, I really prefer regular ole’ painted nails. Call it the conservative side of B if you want. I attribute my sentiments to nail art to having gone overboard with them in high school.

I had nail designs for EVERY holiday back in ‘tha day. I had looks for Christmas, Valentine’s Day and I even got my nails done in gold and green for my high school graduation.

Now and days, I don’t dabble into the nail design so much. In fact, the most I will do is this:

*snore* I know.

And even though I have products like these in my stash…

…I rarely touch them. I even did a nail art tutorial for Amor de Lacquer week, but trust me when I tell yall it is a JOKE. Instead, I found a beautiful YouTube-r who does beautiful nail art designs and her video is easy to follow along.

….and if you really want to see some dynamic nail art, check out my girl Nikki over at Ask Me Whats.

Whatcha think? Are you into nail art or not so much?

Polish Pretty,

Beauty Review: EcoTools Brow Grooming Set

Happy Friday!

Fridays are usually dedicated to FOTD Fridays but I wanted to jazz it up a bit instead of just showing you my mug. Well isn’t this funny….just a few days ago we were talking about areas on our body that we stopped fighting with and just started dealing with.

Say hello to my brows.

[NOTE] I forgot to take the silver clip out. I decided to upload the picture
anyway because it’s so ‘Clumps of Mascara’. HA!

They look okay now.

However, next week….

Sure, go ahead. Laugh it up but it really is a serious manner. I am ever so grateful for EcoTools and this handy dandy little brow set. It keeps my brows in check in between my threading sessions.

You know how much I love EcoTools, right? I did a post about them once before and was glad to see that I wasn’t the only EcoTools lova ‘roun here. Ladies all over the world are raving about these eco-friendly, affordable and high performance brushes. Even my girl Nikki in the Philippines is raving about the EcoTools mineral brush set.

So of course I had high hopes for the Brow grooming set. Did it deliever?

Yall like my little Eco-pretty set up, uh?
Heheheee.

First…let’s take a look at the deets of the Brow Grooming set.

Oh girl, look at that cute little mirror.

Ec0Tools does it again. Another eco-friendly sweet set for only $9.99. The tweezers are precise and I love the “scoop” edges of the scissors. I have been using my brush every day and I just love the mirror….although it really does show EVERYTHING. Eek!

So what have we learned?

Life + good brows=

Life + bad brows=

Make the right decision.

Amor de Lacquer: Improved storage for polishes

Welcome to another post of Amor de Lacquer….the series all about nail polish and nail care! Send me your requests, suggestions and ideas to Brittany@ClumpsOfMascara.com.

Remember HERE where I showed you all my terrible nail polish storage? I thought and I thought and I wrecked my brain trying to think of a neat polish storage solution. I didn’t want anything that took up too much space.

Here’s the thing about me….I don’t like clutter. And I don’t like owning a lot of anything. Books are the only exception. And while I love my nail polish collection, I didn’t want it to keep growing and eventually push me out of my own closet.

I remembered having the SAME issue when I was in college and living in dorms. For my freshman and sophomore years I had to share itty bitty closet spaces with my roommates.

I don’t know how I did it but it really wasn’t that bad. I ran to Ikea (the best store in the WORLD…after Sephora….and Office Depot….and Best Buy….and Whole Foods) and found the exact same little closet organizer that I used in undergrad.

Ta da!

I had one in the dorms and used it to store my shirts, shoes and belts. It was perfect because everything was confined to just THAT one spot. It also works best for polishes. Here’s how it looks in the closet.

It works! I found cheap little crates and organized my polishes by colors. Say “hello” to the purps.

On the side of organizer, I labeled each cubby hole like this:

That way I won’t have to waste time pulling them out trying to figure out where each color is.

After I finished organizing everything, I realized that I still had 3 remaining cubby holes (I love saying that…it reminds me of kindergarten. HA!) left. I found uses for them!

The bases, topcoats, nail/cuticle treatment department

The Design Corner…can’t find my Konad scraper. :(

The Tool Box

Everything works out perfectly and is neat and nice. If I find out that I am outgrowing any of my crates then I start giving away polishes.

Perfect!

Or….I’ll just buy another closet organizer. But hopefully it won’t get to that point.

I don’t think.

Well….it shouldn’t.

Anyone find an ideal way to store polishes?

Your fellow nail polish junkie,

The Makeup Show LA, Installment 3-Kissable Couture

Welcome back to another installment of my experience in Los Angeles for The Makeup Show LA. It seems like by the time I finish blogging about The Makeup Show LA, it will be time for The Makeup Show NYC. Which by the way…..I am SO excited about.

Soooo…..please tell me that you know about Kissable Couture glosses. Ohmigoodnessgracious, I have been lemming after these beautiful babies ever since I saw my girl Kia from Yummy411 review them.

Kissable Couture was one of the vendors at The Makeup Show LA. This lip gloss line started by the beautiful Keisha Whitaker (Actor Forest Whitaker’s wife) and A.J. Crimson, celebrity make-up artist.

These glosses are divine, family. From the look, to the smell, finish and consistency….I can say that I REALLY like them. The concept behind Kissable Couture is one that I absolutely adore. Treating yourself to one of these glosses is like giving yourself a gift.

I mean, just look at the packaging!

It’s funny how something so simple can give you so much joy.

How divine does Hyacinth , look?

This gloss is sheer yet pretty build-able. Its purple and magenta undertones look stunning when paired with a lip liner or layered on top of a lipstick. I can’t quit but my finger on what these glosses smell like….but I like it. Think coconutty cotton candy.

…..I amm so serious. That’s what they smells like!

I really tried to remain composure when meeting A.J. Crimson in the flesh, but my fellow blog sisters will tell you that I was anything but.

Gracias a Dios that A.J. was so flippin’ down to Earth. He chatted with us and told his thoughts on the newest gloss from Kissable Couture.

How does Peony look on me?

What a smashing pink! Perfect for Spring and perfect for all skintones.

Kissable Couture glosses retail at $22. Hey hey….I know that’s not a bargain buy but we all deserve the finer things in life every now and then, ay? You can buy them online and at select locations.

Have you tried any of these glosses?
Interested?

You are the BEST,

Beauty Review: My Pretty Pink Box

In a world full of blue skies, money trees and gumdrop bushes, such would exist little pretty pink boxes full of cosmetic goodies. They would land right on your doorstep; like a little gift.

Wake up, girlfriend!

Pretty Pink Boxes do exist. I can’t remember the last time I have seen something so darling, so useful and so…affordable!

“B, what is a Pretty Pink Box?”

It’s just that, my loves.

See…

“OH! You mean it’s an actual pink box!”

That’s right. What sits inside of this little piece of heaven is a cosmetic newbie or junkie’s dream; sample sizes and coupons of cosmetic companies (most are upcoming and coming baby companies!). This is such a genius idea on so many levels. From what I see, My Pretty Pink Box does two things.

It allows YOU, the consumer to try sample (and most time full) sizes of an array of beauty products. How frustrating is it to purchase an item that just didn’t work for you? For only $11.99, you get the opportunity to try not one, not two or three, but MANY different products from many different brands.

AAAAND……My Pretty Pink Box also allows YOU, the entrepreneur, the make-up line creator, the inventor to get your products OUT there. With every purchase of a My Pretty Pink Box….you have another opportunity of getting your product to be seen, used and re-purchased.

Everyone benefits!!

Especially when goodies like these pop up….

You know you want one.
You know you deserve one.

Once a month My Pretty Pink Box goes out. And once you a month you can treat yourself to an affordable little gift. Actually…..GIFTS since you get so many products in that little box.

What do you think? Would you purchase one of these boxes for yourself? Or for your best friend? Ohmigoodness….wouldn’t this be fabulous little surprise for Mom?

To find out how to BUY or BE IN My Pretty Pink Box, click HERE. The next My Pretty Pink Box will go out April 8th!

Because spoiling yourself ain’t so bad,

P.S.
Emails have been sent out to the Zoya Color Lock System Giveaway winners. Check your emails, ladies! Be sure to confirm with me your name and address before the goodies go off to someone else.

Beauty Review: Victoria Secret’s Pink Body products

I love trying to predict what cosmetic companies are going to come out with next. It’s like a never ending game that us beauty editors like to play. But if you would have told me that Victoria Secret’s was going to drop some organic, 100% vegan, eco-friendly products, I would have given you the “WTF face”.

But they did….and they have truly given me another reason to adore Victoria and her secrets!

Nourishing Body Wash
with Organic Shea Butter

Price:
4 out of 5 (each bottle is $12 or 2/$20)
Packaging: 3 out of 5
Overall: 5 out of 5

What it claims:
“…..our nourishing body wash is ultra rich, to moisturize and replenish as it cleanses. Infused with Organic Shea and Cocoa Butters to help heal and hydrate, plus a shot of U.S.-sourced Grape Seed Oil for antioxidant protection.” (source)

The truth:
I have since purchased 2 more of these body washes. They are incredible!

What I loved about it: I love the light fragrance and how it left my skin super smooth.

What I didn’t like:
Err, what’s not to like?

Overall: This body wash is fantastic! I really don’t like body washes with overpowering scents. This baby does the job with minimal fragrance and leaves my skin silky smooth.

……and ANOTHER wonderful product.

Soothing Hand Cream

Price: 5 out of 5 (it was $8)
Packaging: 5 out of 5
Overall: 5 out of 5

What it claims:
“Our intensive cream deeply moisturizes to restore softness without feeling greasy. Enriched with Organic Oat Extract to calm, plus U.S.-sourced Soy Milk to fortify.” (source)

The truth:
This hand cream is a stable in my make-up bag right now.

What I loved about it: It’s not greasy!

What I didn’t like:
I liked everything about it.

Overall: Now when it comes to hand creams, I am pretty picky. I like creams that don’t leave any residue, don’t have strong scents and are actually GOOD at tackling my ‘off the chain’ ash factor. I found it with this hand cream. It leaves NO sticky/film-y/greasy residue. My hands soak up all of the moisturizing agents of this cream. And guess what? An hour later….my hands STILL feel soft.

….oh, and guess what else?

That’s right! Paraben free. *does the Cabbage Patch*

I am so impressed with you right now, Ms. Victoria. Products for decent prices that are organic AND actually work well? Heyyyy!!!

So what do you think? Have you seen these products? Would you be interested in trying them out?

Tell me!

Amor de Lacquer: Yuck colors on brown skin, part I

It’s Amor de Lacquer week!!!! All posts will be related to nail polish and nail care!

Welcome to another post of Amor de Lacquer….the series all about nail polish and nail care! Send me your requests, suggestions and ideas to Brittany@ClumpsOfMascara.com.

Well well well….finally! I have gotten around to start doing some posts on nail polishes that aren’t so flattering on brown skin.

Now don’t think for one second that I came up with this idea. Yall know that I think that us brown skinned people can wear any nail polish color. And I still believe that. But after rummaging through my stash, I have come across some colors that just aren’t so flattering on brown skin.

They aren’t bad. But they aren’t gorgeous either. In fact, I call them “Yuck colors”.

Here’s Yuck Color #1
Misa Hot Couture with flash

No flash

Don’t even try to make me feel good about this one. This color is just awful. I’m not sure how it would look on any skintone really. It’s just funky and I think I purchased it JUST to prove a point. I knew I wouldn’t like it.

I would best describe this color as “browning honey mustard. It takes only two coats and I like the finish but that’s all that I like about it.

Yuck Color #2
OPI’s You Don’t Know Jacques

I don’t care what anyone says…this color looks terrible on me. My sister, J over at Betty Brown Beautification shares the same sentiments. In fact we laugh and say that this color looks like dirty mop water. Tis is true! I am all for uniqueness but this looks gaudy and extremely unflattering on brown skin. See what I mean…

And it looks far worse without the flash…

I don’t even feel pretty with this color on my tips.

Yikes! I know someone out there is wanting to throw a dagger at me. I know this is a highly coveted color. And while the application is to die for, the color itself is not. I am all for uniqueness but I would rather rock 1 inch french manicured nails than You Don’t Know Jacques.

LOL…it is that bad. And I have yet to trash it.

What do you think? Think these are “yuck colors”? Find them flattering? Or do you think I’m loca? Tell me!
