Beauty Review: MAC’s Tinted Lip Conditioner in Popster

Introducing product #3 that I purchased from the MAC Hello Kitty collection.

I justified purchasing this for several reasons; one being that I simply adore MAC’s lip conditioners and two because I could re-use that darling Hello Kitty case over and over again.

But seriously, I love MAC’s lip conditioners. I have only purchased one. And that means something…your $14.50 will last a LEAST a year. So yes, I know that almost $15 on a balm is a stretch but it will really last you some time. I use my religiously…every day and every night following my skincare regimes. That’s right conditioning your lips is just as important as taking care of your skin.

But yall knew that right?

I figured MAC’s Tinted lip conditioner in Popster would be the best of both world’s. The wonderful conditioning formula that I’m used to with a nice subtle flush of color on the lips.

The packaging is indeed quite darling. A friend of mine goes, “Wow B…..aren’t you too old for Hello Kitty products?” I didn’t jump on him, yall. He clearly doesn’t understand. Plus what am I? 79? Geez.

MAC defines Popster as “lively coral pink”. I guess that’s pretty accurate. What do you think?

At first glance, the darker skinned woman of color may think this color is far too intimidating for her brown skin, but it’s not. This lip conditioner is rather sheer but build-able at the same time. That means if you want to go subtle at work you can do that. If you are headed to Happy Hour later, you apply a little more and BAM….you’ve got a bright lip. Perfect!

How it looks on me?

Subtle. Just like how I like it for work. When I am running errands and want a little more “pop” I line my lips with my beloved MAC Nightmoth lip liner and I am good to go. And I wasn’t trying to be cute with the finger on my chin. I actually have a horrific pimple there and didn’t want to scare yall.

Popster is currently sold out on the MAC website. I’m not lying….see HERE. I know….”they trippin'” as I would say. Check your local MAC stores or counters to see if they are still available.

Have you ever tried MAC’s lip conditioners?

Hair Update: Loc rockin’ for 2 months!

Happy Tuesday, family.

So something happened yesterday….I did my first radio show last night. Eek! I thought I wrecked it but thanks to the Twitter fam’s encouragements I felt a little better. In the coming weeks I will ask the Clumps of Mascara what they think about weekly, bi-weekly or monthly radio shows. If you missed it, you can check out my first show HERE.

Aaaand, back to business:

I have gotten several emails about “what’s going on with my hair”. I created The Crowned Chronicles when I first started my locs. I am tracking my journey and also posting the looks of other beautiful natural men and women. I update this hair blog at least 2 times a week. Most of the following pictures have come from The CC but I don’t mind sharing them with the Clumps of Mascara family as well.

Look at how my hair is transforming!

November 2008

December 2008

January 2009

February 2009

Quite the difference, uh?

Some quick tidbits:
-Contrary to what most people think, I DO wash my hair. I used to think that water would interrupt the locing process, but it does not.
-I spend very little time maintaining my locs. They are easy to care for!
-My scalp is perpetually dry.
-I haven’t purchased any products for my hair since October 2008.

I am loving the changes!

What’s your hair looking like these days? New color? New cut? Same ol’ same ol’?

Are you big into hair care or not so much?

Enjoy your Tuesday,

Amor de Lacquer: MAC’s Hello Kitty Something About Pink

Welcome to another post of Amor de Lacquer….the series all about nail polish and nail care! Send me your requests, suggestions and ideas to Brittany@ClumpsOfMascara.com.

Beauty bloggers, make-up enthusiasts and Hello Kitty fans (I am all of the above, HA!) alike have been lemming after MAC’s Hello Kitty collection for quite some time. While I was quiet in my thoughts about the collection before the launch, I went from 0 to 193 when I saw the collection in person this past Monday.

I am sure you have heard much about it but if not visit HERE and HERE. Some of my favorite beauty bloggers have already tackled the collection, details and all. I have decided not to do a complete run down of the collection because I am far too lazy to do all of that AND I’m cheap. I only purchased 3 items. HA!

Enough of my rambling…let’s get to chattin‘ about one of the highlights of this collection.

Something About Pink nail polish

Ah yes…$11 for a bottle of polish. Definitely out of my price range considering I usually don’t spend more than $4/bottle on average but this was definitely a MUST have.

Yes, this cream looks perfectly pink in the picture but in real life it is a loud pink poppin‘ polish. And do I love it? Hells yea!

I wish I could, but I simply can not take credit for the beautiful application of it on my nails. If they look better than usual, it’s because I had a pro do them! My friend, Curls is a professional in the spa business and he actually doesn’t mind doing my nails. *gasp* I know, he’s great. His application was perfect despite the fact that SAP was a little thick.

“It drags a little bit at the cuticles,” he said.

2 coats and a clean-up later and I had a masterpiece. I had a serious photo shoot with this polish so don’t mind the artistic shots. LOL!

I know those watermarks are just horrific but there are some nail polish photo-swippinmofos on the net. It’s ridiculous. I can’t stop people from jackin‘ me but they’ll be doing some Clumps advertising too. HA!

You can get Something About Pink at any MAC store, counter and at maccosmetics.com for as long as supplies last. Which probably won’t be long since this is a serious coveted item!

Barbie Loves Stila: Foxy Doll

Hello darlings!

Remember this post when I mentioned how much I needed to have the one of those Barbie for Stila cans? Never have I been so attracted to such the packaging of a beauty product.

Okay, that’s a lie. A great deal of my make-up purchases have been because of the packaging of the products. Only true beauty fanatics can co-sign on that kind of addiction.

Anywhoovers–imagine the tears that fell when I found out that the Foxy Lady was sold out.
And then she reappeared. Because I was en route to Washington D.C., I had no access to my computer and used up ALL of my daytime minutes contacting my Mom and best friend in Los Angeles.

Oh wait….I think I also contacted my good friend in Atlanta too (didn’t I, K?). I needed anyone to get their hands on that Foxy girl for me.

But no one could…or so I thought.

But there is wonderful thing called Mothers, family. They pretty much ALWAYS save the day.

My Mommy managed to score me a Foxy girl can!

How darling is that? And the palette isn’t so bad…

To the far left you have a nice cheek color and the next two are eyeshadow colors that are definitely brown girl friendly and wearable. See….they show up pretty nicely.

These colors aren’t terribly unique but it was really the can that I was after….not the products. That’s right….I’m a collector of all cosmetic products that have brown women sportin’ afro’s on them.

If you were unable to snag the Foxy Doll, the other ones are available. Better grab those before they sell out quickly too. Stila Cosmetics is one of my favorite cosmetic companies and I am so excited to see them pair up with Mattel to bring these beautiful collector’s items.

What do you think? Interested? Not so much? Whatcha think?

Beauty Review: CoverGirl Outlast Lip Stain

Good day, family!

Before we get on with the review, just giving you a heads up of the new “review format”. Instead of just a looooong article with pictures about the products, I will now break it down much like the mascara review. Should make it a lot easier for you to decide if you are interested in the product or not. Okay?

OKAY!

Introducing….

CoverGirl’s Outlast Lip Stain

Price: 4 out of 5 (shouldn’t be more than $7)
Packaging: I haven’t decided if I really like using a pen for lip color application.
Overall: 3 out of 5

What it claims: “A lightweight flush of color that lasts for hours without the heavy look or feel of an ordinary lipstick.” (source)

The truth: Well shucks….that’s a pretty accurate claim.

What I loved about it:
It looks cool! Yall know I’m all about “innovative beauty”. Using products that don’t look like their previous predecessors is such fun to me. I liked the idea of using a marker-looking product to apply a lip color. I am a fan of lipstick stains so I knew that I would like this.

And look, Mom! It really does look like a marker!

CoverGirl gets a good 10 points in the smell/taste department. The pen has a pleasant smell and doesn’t turn my stomach upside down if I accidentally lick my lips.

I found that it DOES last for quite awhile. Will it last for 12 hours? Probably not….but I don’t keep lip colors on that long anyway so that’s not important to me. I found that it did well while drinking my 3 bottles of water over a span of 5 hours. I got 425 (not sure of the color) and it goes on pretty well…

What I didn’t like: My goodness, it’s drying!! This product will not work well if you already have dry chapped lips…which I think is a great deal of us with the winter season is full swing.

Okay, so what if I live in Florida….it got down to 40 degrees here a few days and my lips were feeling every bit of it! This product provides ZERO moisture. And should you decide to use a balm or chapstick under it, guess what? It will defeat the purpose of it being a stain. It will look like a regular ole’ gloss. Boooo….

Overall: So it’s not a bad product. But I find that it is really hard to work on my dry lips. And we won’t even talk about how unforgiving this is if you have some lines in your lippies. Oh man…..exhibit A.

Not baaaad but not good either.

I find that throwing a lip gloss on top alleviates the problem but then it looks like a regular gloss. Hmm….see the issue?

Would I recommend it?: Only if you have perfectly smooth lips that don’t need much moisture. If you are like me and have slight imperfections and suffer from dry lips, then this may not work so much. But it is still worth a try as it is a fun product to use!

Muuuuuuah,
