Rx for Brown Skin’s Purifying Moroccan Mineral Mask

I’m not gonna lie – I thought Rx for Brown Skin wasn’t around anymore. When I received this glorious mineral mask to review I was in all kinds of shock. But apparently, they are still around and kicking. I think I confused their not being in Sephora anymore with them just not existing.

Rx for brown skin

But naw…they are here and I am soooo here for them.

My skin is on the highest level of trips right now so I haven’t used this yet but I still wanted to feature this glorious mask. Ready Freddy?

Rx for brown skin Skin Purifying Moroccan Mineral Mask

I’ve done several reviews on this brand before and I just love the idea of having a skincare brand that caters to the needs of those with brown skin.

And of course I love that it’s fragrance-free.

It’s not cheap though. This tiny jar retails for $40. But you know how I feel…I never put a cost on skincare. Yes, girl. I will invest a ton to keep my skin looking clear, healthy and radiant.

Have you tried anything from Rx for Brown Skin lately? Or am I the only loser that didn’t know they were still around?

Clinique’s Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion is like…more dramatic

I remember when I first got into skincare. I was in 5th or 6th grade. My face was gettin’ all teenage acne-ish on me and I wanted to be  cool like my Mom and have like a REAL skin care routine. Mama Clumps trekked me on down to Governor Square Mall in Tallahassee, Florida and we made our way into Dillard’s and I got my first skin care consultation at a Clinique counter. And I left away with this baby…

Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion

I had the entire 3-step skincare system but the golden lotion was my truest love. Clinique’s Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion holds a special place in heart because it was my first big girl moisturizer. How this stuff could get any better is beyond me. But the magicians at Clinique had some tricks up their sleeve and they have made this popular moisturizer even awesomer. Yah. Let’s pretend that awesomer is a word, mkay?

Clinique moisturizing lotion

Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion is now going to give us…

-All day hydration.
-Improvement in skin’s barrier strength in 8 weeks.

Clinique

Not HUGE improvements as I’ve always thought this lotion gave my skin a nice dose of hydration but hey, I trust ‘em. I’ll be honest though. It feels and looks the same to me. Which, I guess, is a good thing. There’s a reason why this lotion is a staple in many households.

Look for it at your nearest Clinique counter or at Clinique.com for $26 for a 4 oz bottle. Rock on, Clinique. Rock on. And keep making more of your amazing nail polishes. I looooove them.

The Old Skool Mama and Pink Nail Polish

A lot of parents like to pretend like they never had a gender preference when they found out they were expecting a baby. Yeah whatever. I keeps it real. Esposo and I both wanted a boy. Mainly because we both have sisters and thought having a son would be a nice and new adventure. And then we found out we were expecting a girl and…

pink finger nails

…we were thrilled. Baby Clumps is the best thing in our lives and she is just perfect in every way. I see why God blessed us with this girl. I am loving our Mother and daughter relationship and can’t wait to do all kinds of fun things with her.

baby

Like polish her nails. It’ll be years before that happens though. I’m a beauty blogger, yes, but I am an old skool mama and want my daughter to fully understand that cosmetics are for fun. And they aren’t a necessity to life.

Pretty baby

Being a mother is the scariest task ever because I don’t want to “mess her up”, ya know? I don’t want to give her a complex. I want to give her a strong foundation of love, self-acceptance and I want her to recognize beauty in all things and all people. And if she really wants it, I’ll let her have COVERGIRL’s Pink Lady polish.

Covergirl Glosstini nail polish

I love these polishes. Mainly because most of them are pretty opaque after only 2 coats. And they are so so glossy.

Covergirl pink lady

Remember these? Yeah. And they dry pretty quickly too. There are some things  I just can’t wait for.

One being my nail polishes to dry.

And then are some things I CAN wait for.

One being my baby girl growing up….

The Lip Balms I Almost Ate…

So Clarins has these lipsticks that they only release during the summer and it’s quite a shame. These bad boys are so dang fabulous that it’s a pity they aren’t available year round.

I got ‘em to review and it has taken everything in me to not bite them.

Clarins lips

Yah. Like bite bite. They just look so luscious.

Clarins Instant Smooth Crystal Lip Balm

Clarins lipsticks

I’m not crazy though. No lipsticks were harmed in this feature.

Clarins packaging

To sum it up, these are fantastic. They look like lipsticks but they feel like balms. They are sheer in color, long-lasting and have a sweet and fruity smell.

Crystal Mandarin has a juicy and sweet orange tint to it. I didn’t think this would work so well but surprise…it does!

Clarins Crystal Mandarin

Crystal Rose, I think, is the most wearable shade for all complexions because it has enough red and pink in it to compliment ladies of all skin tones.

Clarins Crystal Rose

Crystal Gold Plum is really more of a gold and while I’ve never liked gold on my lips, this is subtle enough to actually work kinda well.

Clarins Crystal Gold Plum

Crystal Berry is a subtle vamp of the family.

Clarins Crystal Berry

They are spectacular. Clarins, please make these available year round. Please! They retail for $26 a pop at ClarinsUSA.com and at Clarins counters. I’m all for sheer lipsticks. Sometimes you just don’t want a super pigmented lip, ya know?

By the way, I’m still trying not to bite these. Don’t judge me.

Celebrate National Honeybee Day with these LUSH goodies

Hey honayyyyyyy. National Honeybee Day is this Saturday, August 17th and I am all over it. I’ve always had an affinity for bees. I think they just so wonderful for our ecosystem and the health benefits of honey just doesn’t end. I keep our home stocked with local honey and local raw honey. The second I feel like I’m coming down with a cold, I run to my beloved honey. LUSH is lovin’ on honey too. I was sent these products to review in honor of National Honeybee Day.

National Honeybee Day

They have a ton of goodies in their line that are honey-based. Like the Honey Bee Bath Bomb and the Fair Trade Honey Shampoo. Both are available online and at LUSH stores nationwide.

I’ve been taking more baths lately and now that my skin isn’t as wonky (thanks to giving up gluten), I can’t wait to give this Honey Bee bath bomb ($6.95) a whirl.

LUSH Honey Bee bath bomb

Aside from a few of ‘em being overly fragrant, I adore bath bombs. This one is toffee-scented and packed with Moroccan Rhassoul mud, aloe vera gel and soothing honey. Basically it’s heaven on Earth. Can’t wait to try!

And then there’s the Fair Trade Honey Shampoo ($9.95 – $29.95)

LUSH Fair Trade Honey shampoo

This preservative-free shampoo is moisturizing and is supposed to give hair a nice sheen. I can’t wait to try this either. I’ve been washing my hair daily these days (one of the many perks of shaving off my hair) and I could use the extra moisture. Plus this shampoo smells so so nice and doesn’t have an obviously strong smell.

Thanks for celebrating bees, LUSH! Of course you’ll be able to find these and more honey-inspired products at LUSH.com and LUSH stores nationwide.

The Gorgeous Zoya Irresistible nail polish collection

My nails have finally decided to stop acting crazy and you know what the means…I’ll be cranking out nail polish posts. I received this collection quite some time ago so the excitement for it has died down a bit but not in my beauty room. I’m not the biggest lover of foils and metallics but there’s something about these. They are just so beautiful…

GB and Zoya

See what I mean?

Zoya Bobbi

Bobbi is a hot magenta pink foil metallic. I’m pretty sure I’ve seen a similar color like this from Zoya (then again…Zoya doesn’t really dupe themselves a lot) and if I haven’t, I’m making stuff up. Bottom line: it’s a fantastic super bright strawberry-ish shade. And it looks stunning on the toes. I’ve been wearing it 3 weeks straight now.

Zoya Rikki

Rikki is a fern green foil metallic. I would have loved if this green was a little richer but it’s not so bad. It applies beautifully.

Zoya Tinsley

Tinsley is a rose gold foil metallic and I don’t think I’ve ever seen a metallic like this. Of course we all know how much I don’t like the color pink but this is dainty, girly and just super sweet.

Zoya Hazel

Hazel is a full-coverage, blue green foil metallic. I don’t see much green in it. In fact, it definitely leans more on the blue side and reminds me of a stormy cloud. They should have really named the polish Stormy. Just sayin’…

Zoya Amy

Amy is a lot full-coverage, red orange foil metallic that looks a lot like China Glaze’s Riveting. It’s a stunning and insanely bright nail polish. It isn’t super unique but it is gorgeous nonetheless.

Zoya Kerry

Kerry is a full-coverage, yellow gold foil metallic. I’ve never been a fan of golds but somehow I can get down with yellow golds.

Okay so it’s not my favorite Zoya nail polish collection but it’s nice enough. It’ll definitely appeal to the bright nail polish lovers of the world. My faves? Bobbi, Tinsley and Amy. I think I prefer Zoya’s Stunning collection over this one. Then again I looooove creme nail polishes.

You can grab this collection from Zoya.com for $8/bottle or $48 for the entire collection.

Busting Beauty Myths + Giveaway!

Water

So girls (and the handful of guys that read this blog)…let’s talk about beauty myths, shall we? I could probably write a book on ‘em because there are just THAT many. The sad thing is, when it comes to skincare and my obsession with trying to have and KEEP clear skin, I’ll probably try anything. Except dab pee on my pimples.

Naw. I can’t get down with that. I don’t know if it’s a rumor within the family or not but my girl cousins have this running joke that Grandma has always had clear skin and her “liquid output” is the reason why. Everyone is too afraid to ask her. And to try it. I mean come on, dude. I’m comfortable with my body but I’ve gotta draw a line somewhere.

Check out my list of beauty myths…

Black don’t crack.
Yeah no. Everyone gets wrinkles.

Good skin is all genetic.
Not always. Good skin is also determined by lifestyle and diet.

Water is important for hydration but it won’t necessarily lead to healthier skin.
So not true. Our skin contains a good amount of water and hydrated skin is healthier skin.

Black girls don’t need sunscreen.
Yeah no. The sun don’t discriminate, mamacita. EVERYONE needs protection from the sun.

Going a day without washing your face never hurt anyone.
Pfft! Lies! I can’t be the only who has gone to sleep without washing their face only to have pimples greeting me the next morning. It’s good to get in the habit of always washing the face before bed.

Eucerin skincare

My favorite Eucerin skincare products for when my skin needs that extra hydration.

Three Fabulous Eyeliners That Stay Where You Put Them

Eyeliners

When it comes to my beauty arsenal, eyeliner seems to be poorly represented. I have fifteen varieties of blush, over fifty shades of lipstick and so many eye shadow palettes that I have honestly lost count.

However, I only have three types of eyeliner. Why only three? Because I found the only three I’ll ever need. It can be hard to find beauty products that want to stay where we put them. Lipstick smears, foundation rubs off and eyeliner smudges. I dig the retro cat-eye, but I’ve found that it can turn into raccoon eyes without much prompting. After years of fighting with my eyeliner, I decided to try out something meant to wear a bit longer.

And no, I don’t mean permanent makeup. *shudders*

NYX Cosmetics Super Skinny Eye Marker — $9

What can I say; I absolutely love this eye marker. I get a gorgeous line and it just glides on! Give it a few seconds to dry and you’re set for the day, no matter what activities you have planned.

Pros: Easy to use, great control.
Cons: Only one shade available.

Glominerals Precision Eye Pencil — $16

This eyeliner pencil is great for everyday use. I usually get six to eight hours of regular wear out of it, so it’s ideal for the office or a day spent shopping. It’s available in eight gorgeous shades; my personal favorite is Plum.

Pros: Goes on easy, doesn’t tug, great for sensitive skin.
Cons: Doesn’t wear well through strenuous activities, needs to be sharpened.

Chanel Stylo Yeux Waterproof Long-Lasting Eyeliner — $30

If you’re willing to spend a little more on long wearing eyeliner, this is the one to buy. Waterproof and smudge proof, it’s perfect for lounging in the pool or kicking it at the beach. It’s available in seventeen shades with a built in sharpener on the end.

Pros: Waterproof, variety of shades.
Cons: Expensive.

These three great eyeliners give me a variety of looks and the kind of durability I wish I could expect from all of my makeup. Lipstick, I’m looking in your direction.
