Mascara Monday: Maybelline Volum’ Express Falsies Big Eyes mascara

Goodness gracious. Mascaras have the longest names these days. I mean, my goodness….! I guess when you’ve been making mascaras since 1914, you run out of short and to the point names. I get it. Maybelline has a new mascara on the block and while I am usually excited about their new mascaras, this one didn’t excite me too much at first glance. Which is shocking because I usually go gaga over dual-wand mascaras. Did application and performance of this baby change my mind?

Maybelline Volum' Express Falsies Big Eyes mascara

Nothing fancy in the packaging department…

Maybelline Falsies Big Eyes mascara

Price: $7.99 in drugstores
Packaging (brush wand): 3 out of 5
Overall: 3.5 out of 5

What It Claims: “Revolutionary dual-ended Mascara for 360° all around Lash Glam. Two brushes specifically designed for top and bottom lashes. Special quick-dry formula holds lashes in place” (source)

The Truth: I’ve had better Maybelline mascaras but this one isn’t too shabby.

What I Loved About It: I do love the option of having two wands. Not ideal for everyday use but if you’ve got the extra time, it works!

What I Didn’t Like: The volume power is just so so.

Maybelline Volum' Express Falsies Big Eyes mascara wands

Overall: This isn’t the first time we’ve seen a wand like this from Maybelline. Back in the day they had mascaras with dual wands. One wand was for a primer and the other was the actual mascara. Those were just so so. I actually like this mascara a little bit better because at least you can see the impact that is made. I like the idea of being able to have a mascara for those hard to get smaller lashes. Most wands make it difficult to do because the wands are large. The baby wand is fantastic for this purpose. Look how wittle she is…

Maybelline Volum' Express Falsies Big Eyes skinny wand

I found that this wand is also great for grabbing the inner lashes too. And I suppose if you have super tiny lashes, they work for those too. The regular wand, however just isn’t plush enough to provide a ton of volume. I mean it does ohhhhkay.

Maybelline Volum' Express Falsies Big Eyes mascara larger wand

It’s a nice wand. I think it’s great for separating and attempting to straighten out wonky lashes but I didn’t find it to be insanely impactful for those seeking crazy huge lashes. If you’re desirous are defined lashes without much POW, this mascara will work. But if you’re like me and need for folx to see your lashes before they see you…well, you may be disappointed. On the good side, the formula was easy to apply and I didn’t get any clumps. Score! So yeah, it’s not my favorite mascara but hey, if you are serious about maintaing those bottom lashes, me thinks you’ll like this baby. I also found it to be pretty lightweight. No heavy lashes here. I had nice and fluffy lashes all day. But on the downside, fluffy lashes don’t stand up too well in Florida humidity.

Do I recommend it?: Meh. I think Maybelline has better mascaras in stores these days. Even the Rocket is better than this one.

Okay Maybelline mascara lovers, what did you think about this one?

Mixin’ Around With OCC Lip Tars + A Giveaway!

It’s been forever and 10 days since I’ve done something creative makeup-wise. Some beauty blogger I am, huh? Welllllls, through Coupons.com I was gifted with a $50 gift card to Sephora in hopes that I’d feature using one product or products and do multiple looks with them. I loves a challenge. I also have this extreme obsession with Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics’ Lip Tars. I mean, look at ’em…

Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Pro's Picks Lip Tar Set v2.0

Sexy, ain’t they? Every few seasons OCC gives us a smashing deal of 5 Lip Tars for only $49. This is a crazy awesome deal because one Lip Tar usually costs $18. The Pro’s Picks Lip Tar Set v2.0 contains 5 unique shades that can be worn alone or mixed together to create your own shade.

Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tars(l-r)
Hoochie, Lydia, Pretty Boy, Iced and Kava Kava

Of course Hoochie is my favorite. That vibrant magenta is quite the stunner.

OCC Hoochie Lip Tar

I wanted to create two additional lip colors using good ole’ Hooch as my base.

OCC Lip Tar mixing

I had to use flash on the camera for a lot of these pics because Hooch is so hard to photograph. But wow…I love it.

I did some mixin’ with Hoochie and Pretty Boy and came up with this…

…and then I mixed Hoochie with Lydia and Iced.

Iced alone is pretty magnificent. I can’t wait to find other ways to use that beautiful frosty white. 5 Lip Tars for $50 is such a great deal and I am so going to be looking out for their next season’s release. Eucerin Skin First Pledge

Eucerin skincare products

My my myyyyy….this Florida weather is insane, y’all. It’s not even funny. Like, there isn’t an ounce of humor behind it. Us Floridians always complain about the heat and humidity. Every year. It’s kinda like how folx from snowy areas get all huffy every time snow hits the ground. During snow season. Yeah.

What was I talking about again? Oh yes…I was complaining about the heat. So even though I’m not a fan of sweating bullets within seconds of stepping outdoors, I’ll be spending quite a bit of time outside this summer. It’s Elle’s first summer and I’ve gotta turn it up for her. We’ll be doing weekly treks to the Farmer’s Market and starting swim lessons! Last month was National Skin Cancer Awareness Month and in addition to spreading the word about No Fry Friday, Eucerin is also asking folx to take the Skin First Pledge. Taking the pledge is a great commitment to yourself AND you’ll score a sample of a Eucerin SPF product.

This month I got the chance to hang out with the Daily Protection SPF 15 Body Lotion and the Daily Protection SPF 30 Moisturizing Face Lotion. I reviewed both last year and I’m still lovin’ them!

Eucerin skincare

Eucerin also sent a blue wristband that turns blue when UV rays hit it! Of course I would take a picture of it at 7:30 p.m. Ha!

My obsession with coconut continues with Pacifica Purify Coconut Water Cleansing Wipes

Guess who is going out of town for an overnight trip (sans baby) later this month?! Meeeee! Quick overnight trips can be more difficult than longer ones because you’ve got to prep yourself for dealing with airplanes, hotels, ground transportation and meetings all in 2 days. But if I can do that while 9 weeks pregnant and dreadfully ill I know I can do it now. I’m getting a head start on packing my cosmetic bag and I am soooo throwing these Pacifica Wipes up in there. I got these babies for review and I know I’ve featured several cleansing wipes before but I am so lovin’ on these.

Pacifica Purify Coconut Water Cleansing Wipes

Pacifica Purify Coconut Water Cleansing Wipes 2

For one, they are vegan! Wooo hoo! I’m no vegan but I tend to only regularly use vegan skincare products. And not just to be cool but because my skin acts crazy with products with a ton of mess in ’em. So yeah, these are great because they are without the yucky ingredients.

Pacifica Purify Coconut Water Cleansing Wipes mission

Pacifica Purify Coconut Water Cleansing Wipes rocks

And they’re cheap too. $6 for 20 wipes is a darn good deal for wipes that you plan to keep in your travel bag. The packaging is great too…

Pacifica Purify Coconut Water Cleansing Wipes pacakaging

Pacifica Purify Coconut Water Cleansing Wipes open

The hard plastic lid closes securely enough to keep the cloths moist. WIN! I should really dabble more into Pacifica products. They are my kind of brand!

PROS’s

-You don’t need water for these. Just pull from the package and wipe face.
-They do a great job at removing makeup too! Especially eyeliner and face powders.
-Affordable! $6? C’mon, that’s nothing!
-Skin feels great after use, not too try and they don’t leave an oily residue either.
-Easy to find! You can get these from Target or PacificaPerfume.com.

CON’S

-The packaging says that “all natural” fragrance is used but that seems ridiculously vague.
-They are a bit lint-y. So while they do great at removing eyeliner, I’d rather use my own makeup remover with lint-free pads.
-The coconut fragrance is nice and dissipates quickly but it may be a bit too strong for some.

Yeeppp, I’m lovin’ these! Can’t wait to try more products from Pacifica!

Mascara Monday: Elizabeth Arden Beautiful Color Maximum Volume mascara

Guess how many mascaras I have formally reviewed? 200! Crazy ,right? I’ve probably tried more (not all of them make the cut) but I find it nutty that I’ve talked about, taken pictures of and tried at least 200 mascaras. Crazyyyyy. I was too lazy to think of some kind of creative giveaway but I do plan on doing something so stay tuned. 😉 In the meantime, let’s chit chat about this mascara…

Elizabeth Arden Elizabeth Arden Beautiful Color Maximum Volume mascara

And I know what you’re thinking…”Isn’t Elizabeth Arden for grandmas?” Heck no. It’s a brand that’s been around for quite some time but they ROCK in the cosmetics department. Remember that bronzer of theirs I reviewed? Anywho, I’m lovin’ this mascara that I got for reveiw…

Elizabeth Arden Elizabeth Arden Beautiful Color Maximum Volume mascara tube

Price: $19.50 at ElizabethArden.com or at Elizabeth Arden counters
Packaging (brush wand): 5 out of 5
Overall: 4 out of 5

What It Claims: “This beauty award-winner dramatically thickens lashes as it separates and defines. Smudge-proof formula lasts all day.” (source)

The Truth: Oh, how I love the length and volumizing power of this mascara!

What I Loved About It: It’s got a great and easy to use wand.

What I Didn’t Like: The formula is so lightweight that it doesn’t seem to last all day.

Overall: I really wanted to make this mascara my 200th review because I think it’s special.I mean, how lame would it have been if that 200th mascara review was of a mascara that sucked? Yeah. This mascara rocks for several reasons. For one, the wand is niiiice.

Elizabeth Arden Elizabeth Arden Beautiful Color Maximum Volume mascara brush

Simple, yes, but I dig simple because I think we sometimes over complicate things like mascara wands. This is small enough to grab all of the lashes and plush enough to plump up the lashes. It works. It was tough to get the inner corners and bottom lashes but if you’re patient enough to work with it, you shouldn’t have too much of a problem with that.

My favorite aspect of this mascara is how wonderfully it volumizes. I applied to coats and got va va voom lashes. Lengthening was decent too. This is the perfect mascara for those who want volume and aren’t in need of a waterproof mascara. The formula is great but I found it to be extremely lightweight. Normally I wouldn’t complain about something like this but I need a mascara that lasts for quite some time since it’s almost summer time in humid Florida. That said, if you need super lush lashes and don’t plan on sweating vigorously, this may be a great mascara for you.

And even though it’s lightweight, I didn’t experience any clumps or smudging. So yay, Elizabeth Arden!

3 Cool Razors from Schick

Welp. I’ve been shaving my legs. It’s a big deal for me. Let’s get something straight…I’m not one of those women who have to have a hairless body. I’m a mammal. Hair grows and I refuse to spend my precious hours trying to get rid of it. A little leg hair ain’t never hurt nobody.

Leg hair that has your husband saying “OUCH!” when you play footsie with him under the kitchen table, however is a different story. So yeah. I’ve been shaving. Schick sent me a few of these razors to test out I really don’t have any complaints.

Schick Razors

I’ve played around with the brand Schick before and I am lovin’ everything about these. For one thing, they are so easy to find. Practically every drugstore or store like Target or Walmart will have the Schick brand. I was sent 3 different kind of razors so let’s do a quick run through of these kids, shall we?

First up is a new kind of Intuition.

You’ve seen these before, haven’t you? Schick very creatively decided to marry shaving cream and a razor and put them in a built-in soap brick…thingie. Yeah.

Schick Intuition Pure Nourishment

I’ve reviewed this before and I still find it to be awesome! I’ve never been heavily dependent on shaving cream (hell-lllooo…that’s what conditioner is for) but my legs are insanely soft when I use this. It does a great job and slicking the skin and prepping it for a shave. Plus I just adore the inclusion of coconut milk. Coconut milk is my BFF!

And then there’s the original Schick Hydro Silk.

Schick Hydro Silk razor

I’ve been using this baby for quite some time. Those 5 blades are magnifique! In fact, I notice a huge difference when I use razors with 5 blades and when I use razors with less than 5 blades. The stubble comes around so much sooner. Schick was so awesome with the Hydro Silk that they recently gave us the disposable version of it.

Schick Hydro Silk Disposables

Yas! Now I can toss one in my travel bag and not die a thousand deaths if I accidentally leave it at the hotel. Don’t act like I’m the only one that has done that. Hmph.

Are you shaving your legs this summer? I’ll still love you if you say no. 😎

Mascara Monday: Milani Grandissimo Lashes mascara

Milani Grandissimo Incredible Volume mascara

Ya’ll know I love Milani. Like adore. A lot. Their mascaras have always just been okay though. Not good but not terrible either. I’ve been eyeing this one for a while so when it landed in my mailbox I got excited and wished for the best. Let’s see how we did…

Milani Grandissimo Lashes mascara

Price: $5.49 at drugstores and at Milani.com.
Packaging (brush wand): 3 out of 5
Overall: 4 out of 5

What It Claims: “Bigger is better! The mega volume brush creates a false lash effect. Dramatically enhances and thickens even the littlest lashes. Long-lasting, smear-proof, and non-clumping formula. Paraben-free. ” (source)

The Truth: Wowsers…this is definitely one of their better mascaras!

What I Loved About It: It’s got nice volume.

What I Didn’t Like: It has a large wand and may clump on you…

Overall: I first saw the wand on this mascara and just knew that she would be able to work some magic. And she didn’t let me down. Look at this baby…

Milani Grandissimo Lashes mascara wand

Not too shabby, uh? When you see a wand like this, you should realize 2 things. (1) A good amount of volume is coming your way and (2) so are clumps. It is almost inevitable. You just can’t avoid the clumps when you’ve got wands like these. To minimize them you can only apply one coat of mascara but if your goal is crazy awesome lashes, you’ll want to apply more mascara. That said, I REALLY dug this mascara. It’s average as far its appearance and she doesn’t tote any ah-mazing claims but it’s a fantastic mascara nonetheless. The wand is large but if you’ve got patience, you’ll find that it’s easy to breeze through the lashes.

The formula is great too. I didn’t find it to be too thick and it applied nicely to the lashes. I only applied 2 coats to my lashes and got a good amount of length and volume. It’s dark mascara so it’s perfect for a dramatic look. It does well with holding up throughout the day and I only found clumping to be a problem when trying to apply more than 2 coats. Way to go, Milani!
