My current facial cleanser. What are you washing your face with these days?

I’ve found a new face cleanser! This is a big deal, y’all. Despite being a beauty blogger, I am far from a product junkie. I stick with what works and while I may review a ton of skincare products, I usually stick with the same ones until they run out. What I review and don’t use, I often donate and pass over to those who I know who I know will use them. I just hate being wasteful, ya know?

A few weeks ago I was roaming through Chamberlin’s Natural Foods store here in Orlando and found myself venturing in the skincare lanes. I’m so ridic. I can MAKE my own skincare products but still feel the need to “buy” some. I’m no Mama Clumps. I don’t have the patience to make my own stuffs. And soooo I buy. This go ’round, I picked up a cleanser from a brand that I’ve never heard of.

Dr. Woods, uh? Is this Dr. Bronner’s cousin? Ha! I vigorously scanned the ingredients list and LOVED that there wasn’t any artificial fragrances in it. Too many times brands say a product is natural but then dump a ton of artificial fragrances in it. Which always annoys me.

This cleanser is so wonderful, y’all. So wonderful. I’ve found a keeper and don’t see myself venturing away from this one any time soon.

Pro’s

-Contains tea tree oil. My favorite all-natural pimple bustin’ agent.
-Includes peppermint oil and that makes the skin feel rejuvenated.
-A little goes a long way.
-Has a mint-y/tea tree oil smell to it. Which I really like but I can see how it may turn off others.
-Nice clear consistency. I prefer clear cleansers over creamy ones. Even though they may not be the best for my dry skin, I feel like they do a better job at drying out those pimples.
-Minimal ingredients!

Con’s

-Can dry the skin out. You have to apply moisturizer quickly!
-Pretty pricey in stores. I paid almost $12 for it but saw that you can get it online for as low as $4.69!

So yeah, I love everything about this cleanser. And I love that I can get it online for almost HALF of what I paid for it. Between this cleanser, my Weleda Almond moisturizer and Boscia masks, I have a nice line-up of preservative-free facial care products.

I love featuring ALL products here on Clumps but for every day use? I stick to all-natural, baby. With my acne flare-up’s, gentler is better, ya know?

What cleanser are your currently using these days?

Amor de Lacquer: China Glaze Capital Colours Hunger Games collection (just a few)

Confession time: I’ve never watched any Harry Potter movies. Or Lord of the Rings. Or Pirates of the Caribbean. But The Hunger Games? Ob-sessed. I’ve read all 3 books (liked the first one the best, though) and can’t WAIT until the movie comes out. China Glaze’s Hunger Game collection features 12 gorgeous shades, all representative of the 12 districts of Panem.

Confused? Um. Read The Hunger Games. Like…now. I’ve only got 5 of the polishes. The HG obsessor that is me wanted to haul ALL 12 shades but only 5 spoke to me. I do want to pick up Agro though. That metallic olive green is gorgeous!

The collection in its entirety….

Fast Track is cool beige with gold micro-flecks that reminds me so much of another China Glaze shade. I just can’t put my finger on it. Anywhoovers, Fast Track is gorg. It’s a work appropriate shade with hella personality.

Mahogany Magic is a rich, yellow-based, brown creme. I used to feel some kind of way about brown polishes with my brown skin but now I am in LOVE with them. This brown reminds me a lot of Nubar’s Milk Chocolate except Mahogany Magic is a wee bit richer. Brown polishes rock so much.

Riveting is a jelly-fied gem and while it looks quite similar to China Glaze’s Orange Marmalade, Riveting is 10x richer and more vibrant. I have already called this polish one of my favorites….ever. Which says a lot. It’s stunning, captivating and just…riveting. Yes, riveting. Katniss would definitely approve.

Smoke & Ashes is a black that has blue micro-flecks. I heard great things about this polish so I just had to snag it. Well…it’s just okay. Outside it looks black. Inside it looks black and only when you look at the nails close-up can you see the blue flecks. I mean, it’s pretty but nothing ah-mazing, ya know?

Luxe & Lush was the polish that I was most looking forward to and it definitely didn’t disappoint. This flakie top coat is perhaps one of the most unique because the flakes are so spread out and in various colors. And unlike other flakies, it actually looks half decent on lighter shades. It looks okay on black too but REALLY pops on lighter shades. I love it over Mahogany Magic. I did one coat on the pointer and middle finger and two coats  on the middle finger and pinky.

I did one coat of Luxe & Lush over Smoke & Ashes and it’s gorg. In. love.

And then over Fast Track…

Must Haves:
-Riveting. You REALLY need this. Not even kidding.
-Luxe & Lush. Because it’s the most epic flakie topcoat I’ve ever seen.

The formula of these were good. I didn’t have crazy issues with any of them. I used 2 coats for each and was surprised at how opaque they were. Especially Riveting. I just KNEW I’d have to go for 3 coats with that baby but nope…it took only 2. I’ll probably snag another polish or two from this collection. Prim would want me to. I know. I’m so involved with The Hunger Games. I grabbed these for $5.99 each at Sally Beauty Supply and of course e-tailers like TransDesign.com will have these for sale in the coming weeks.

See any you like? How awesome is that Riveting?

Mascara Monday: Urban Decay Lush Lash mascara

Huge news, y’all! This mascara review makes the 150th mascara review added to the Clumps of Mascara Mascara Bin. It’s hard to believe that I’ve tested over 150 mascaras AND wrote reviews for them. Is there a Guinness World Records section for something like this? Seriously. In honor of the 150th mascara review, I’ll be giving away UD’s Lush Lash. Aaaaand, it’s an International-friendly giveaway! Details after review!

Price: $20 at Sephora stores and Sephora.com
Packaging (brush wand): 4 out of 5
Overall: 4 out of 5

What It Claims: “A thickening and lengthening mascara formulated to help lashes actually grow longer. ” (source)

The Truth: The wand is a dream!

What I Loved About It: This mascara lengthens nicely.

What I Didn’t Like: You probably won’t get the complete benefits of this mascara unless you use it in conjunction with Urban Decay’s Lush Lash System (Growth Accelerating Serum and Conditioning Mask). And that goes for $42.

Overall: Here’s the dealio, because I can’t spend weeks reviewing a mascara, I won’t be able to say much about this mascara’s ability to make the lashes healthier over time. What I will do is rap on the awesomeness that is the wand, the formula and whether or not the mascara’s overall performance is up to par.

Let’s take a look see at the wand.

Nice, uh? This is the perfect wand for maneuvering through wonky lashes. The bristles are smaller than I’d like but at least they are sturdy.

Formula-wise, I think this one’s formula is nice. It plops itself on the wand easily and distributing it on the lashes is easy. It flaked a bit on me throughout the days I wore it but this can be alleviated but applying a coat of your favorite mascara primer before applying the mascara.

This baby promises to thicken and lengthen and I think it does a darn good job. Like I think it does better lengthening than thickening, I love that I can apply 2-3 coats without it clumping up on me. I didn’t get insanely longer lashes with Lush Lash, but I find it be the perfect everyday mascara. Aaaand, if I weren’t too busy reviewing so many other mascaras, I would definitely use this for days and weeks at a time to see if helped lead me to healthier lashes. It’s been such a long time since I’ve reviewed an Urban Decay mascara and it’s a plum shame because Urban Decay is one of my favorite brands.

Bare Lashes

Lashes after 3 coats

Do I recommend it?: Sure do. Especially if you need a good separating mascara.

Have you tried this mascara yet? What do you think?

Pretty Polishes: Jesse’s Girl polishes rock!

You know what sucks? Falling in love with a brand that you can’t get in your city. I know, there really are more important things to be worried about in the world. I should feel petty for caring about something so little. It’s the beauty blogger in me. Really, it is.

Take these polishes from Jesse’s Girl….

Gorgeous, right? But I can’t even find them here in Florida. Back when I lived in Los Angeles, I never gave the brand a second glance but now that I am thousands of miles away, of course I want to hoard ALL of their products. Especially their polishes.

Check out Julie G…

Now y’all know I have never ever been a fan of pink polishes (or pink the color…yucky) but this baby is awesoooome! She isn’t as “neon” as a hot pink but isn’t super coral either. She’s like a Pepto Bismol pink with a ton of coral thrown in. I loooooove it!

I love Glee too!

Glee was hard to capture so I ended taking two pictures with two different cameras. The one above shows its truest color. In natural lighting, this foil-y polish with turquoise shimmer leans more on the blue side.

What’s not to love about a polish that reminds me of mermaids?

So yeah. I am loving these two Jesse’s Girl polishes. Must.have.more. The formula for both were excellent. The dry time was surprisingly fast and I can always appreciate a polish that dries with the quickness. You can grab Jesse’s Girl polishes at Rite Aid and online for $2.99.

Have you tried anything from Jesse’s Girl?

No Longer Walking Dead with Maybelline’s Eye Studio Ink Pen Eyeliner

Mascara? Yeah, whatever. Eyeliner? Can’t leave home without it. I know, I’m pathetic. I never wanted to be one of those gals who couldn’t leave the house without makeup but I look like The Walking Dead without eyeliner. And I’m not even kidding. A little bit of black eyeliner gives my eyes definition and makes me look more awake. But liquid liner?

Liquid liner is the bee’s knees and butterfly’s wings if you know how to use it correctly. Don’t even think about asking me for tips, dude. I am still struggling with applying it. Maybelline is hitting us with a new one and by George, I think I like it!

The tip has a darn good point.

Which is a good thing. A liquid eyeliner with a dull point or a point that collapses too easily can make for ineffective application. And ineffective application will have you looking like a 2nd grader did your makeup. Which is no bueno. This black liner looks really black. Which I love.

It lasts throughout the day without many problems. It did flake on me after I rubbed my eye a bit, but I’m used to that happening with most eyeliners.

Pro’s
-Affordable. Depending on where you go, it’s between $6.99-$7.99.
-It has a nice and intense black color.
-Nice point-y tip that makes it easy to draw both thin and thick strokes.
-Long lasting.

Con’s
-Can flake if you rub your eyes.
-Dries out if you leave the top off for a few minutes.

Have you seen this eyeliner around? Whatcha think?

Buttah-licious with Pooka Pure & Simple’s Whipped Cream

Da butters. Have y’all ever seen that video of the lady on YouTube who was upset at Black people  (she was kidding, of course) for hiding what she called “the butters”? It’s a hilarious video. One that had me rollin’ for weeks. In said video, she mentioned that she recently discovered shea butter and cocoa butter and she was blown away at their amazingness.

The truth is, I’ve been using “the butters” for a looooong time. Years. Decades. Pooka Pure & Simple has an amazing blend of whipped butters that I have been using daily. Daily, ya’ll.

There are so many benefits that come with using shea and cocoa butters. From completely moisturizing the skin to helping fade scars and dark spots, the butters rock. And I love that Pooka has included some of my favorite other ingredients…

Gotta love products that have minimal ingredients. All of which you can name. That rarely happens. But it’s the norm among the preservative-free goodness that is Pooka Pure & Simple. I am sensitive to fragrances and so I love that this doesn’t have a darn thing in it. There is a bit of a nutty smell but it’s faint and dissipates after the butter is rubbed all in. Speaking of the butter…

…in sinks right into the skin. And the best part? There isn’t an oily residue. I usually only use buttahs during the winter time but considering this doesn’t leave my skin feeling super oily, I can get down with using it daily. And yeah – I know it’s technically wintertime but I live in Florida. Ain’t no winter here.

This 6.5 oz tub of whipped goodness goes for $16. Steep but it’ll last you forever. Aaaand, there are scented versions of the whipped cream.

This is hands down one of my favorite Pooka products.

Whatcha think? A lover of buttahs, are you?

Amor de Lacquer: SpaRitual Water collection

Say “hi” to SpaRitual, y’all! This is my first time featuring Orly’s big sister and I couldn’t be happier. SpaRitual is one of those brands that isn’t as “well-known” as Orly, China Glaze and OPI. The vegan brand is commonly located in all-natural settings like Whole Foods, natural and holistic spas and natural food stores nationwide. SpaRitual isn’t about staying up on the trends but instead appeals to a demographic of nail polish lovers who enjoy simple shades with earthy undertones.

And I love SpaRitual for that. Their collections are always so refreshing and Water is no exception. According to the press release I received, the Water collection “is inspired by the creative flow of energy that travels through us, much in the same way water travels throughout the earth.” Deep, uh? SpaRitual often supports organizations that have the same passion for our environment, health and wellness. 20% of proceeds of the Water collection will be donated to Surge, an organization whose mission is to deliver clean drinking water to those who are in need. Amazing. Makes the $10 price tag seem a lot more do-able.

Check out these beauties…

Hidden Reef is a shimmery coral that I actually like. That says a lot because I’m not a fan of many corals.

Deep is described as an iridescent reflection of moonlight and man, this baby is beautiful. While it photographs green for some reason, it is actually a dark gray polish with faint magenta shimmer. It’s gorgeous and I just love how it looks.

How Deep REALLY looks…

Ripple Effect is a creamy and dusty mauve that Mama Clumps would so swipe if she were around. There is nothing prettier than a dusty grayple. Grayple equals gray and purple.

Lucid is a lilac blue and while it looks more on the blue side, it really has more purple in it. It’s pretty, dainty and very appropriate for Spring.

Undercurrent is a dark blue that rocks my world. There is nothing better than a dark blue nail polish. Nothing, I say!

Ebb & Flow photographs a little brighter than what it looks like. It real life, this is a light aqua that looks stunning on the toes. I love everything about this polish. Except the severe staining it gave my nails. I had to soak my nails in lemon juice for a good 20 minutes because they were stained so badly. :(

Must Haves:
-Deep. What a stunning gray.
-Ripple Effect. Because you can never have too many purples.
-Undercurrent. A gorgeous blue!

The formula of these was just okay. Most were on the thicker side. And the brushes for these polishes were so skinny. Then again – I do have long and wide nail beds so maybe it’s just me. I expected the formula to be a bit better considering the $10 price tag. Still. I’m all for brands that bring awareness to global issues and for that reason, I will always love and support SpaRitual. You can grab these polishes in spas and salons nationwide, as well as select natural food stores and online at Beauty.com.

How to Create Sunburst Lips – Like A Boss.

When I fall for something, y’all…I fall hard. Take music for example. I can listen to the same songs for days, weeks and YEARS at a time. I STILL play “Let’s Groove” by Earth, Wind & Fire like it came out in January of last year. I am a free spirit but I am a comfortable spirit too. I don’t fix what ain’t broke and while that can be a good thing, it stunts my creativity at times.

Hence why the starburst lips came to me.

Yep. They came to me. Seriously. I was rushing into work on Monday and after plopping down at my desk, I realized that my lips were bare. Bare lips are a no no on Monday mornings. I rummaged through my makeup bag and pulled out the gorgeous Venomous Cosmetics’ Let U Go.

Venomous Cosmetics is an indie brand launched by a talented beauty blogger who is based out of Central Florida. I found about VC through my blog sister and friend, Phyrra (who also lives in Central FL…woot!) and when my eyes landed on Let U Go, I knew I had to have it. I mean, look at this orange…

Gorgeous, right? It’s even more stunning in person. I own nothing like it and was glad to add it to my stash. And I didn’t use it until that rushed Monday morning. I wanted to go for something “different”, yet work appropriate. And so sunburst lips were born.

Oh. And if you hear anyone use the words “sunburst lips”, they so got it from me. I’m just sayin’. I came up with it first. ;)

First, I lined my lips using MAC’s Vino lipliner.

I’m not gonna tell y’all how long I’ve had that lipliner. Is there an expiration date for lip liner? Anyone know? Anywhoovers, I applied Revlon’s Lip Butter in Raspberry Pie.

Yep. I am still religiously wearing that buttah. I love that buttah. At this point, I grab a lip brush and get to blending.

Blending is so important. It’s like the 2nd Beauty Commandment. After “Never Wear Black Eyeliner on the Lips”, of course. After blending, I dabbed Let U Go in the middle of my lips.

And ta daaaaah!

FACT: Everyone has at least one friend that regularly takes pictures of themselves and showcases those duck lips…

Don’t be that friend. 8) Sunburst lips paired with dual blue eyeliner is quite the unexpected look. I can’t stop wearing it. I think I’m going to go for a sunburst lip using purple lippies. Whatcha think?

If you give sunburst lips,  try…let me know!
