Festive Nails for the 4th of July!

Confession: I am not a fan of doing nail art. Not even a little bit. For one thing, doing designs take too long and never last that long. You mean it took me 20 minutes to do ONE nail and these things have the audacity to start chipping in a day? Girl no. It’s enough to make me go crazy. Do I drool over the designs of nail polish bloggers? Yep. All day and everyday. I was inspired by some of those talented girls to do a patriotic nail look.

Patriotric nails

Okay, those nail strips are impressive and all but they don’t lay down for nothin’ in the world. How obnoxious! I’ve seen so many nail bloggers use them to perfection and of course when I try, it looks like a 6-year old did it. Ha! Typical B. Don’t look too hard at the strips. Aaaaand, you can’t tell me that the blue jelly sandwich of nails aren’t some kind of gorge. My nails haven’t been this short in months so I am trying to work with the nubs.

Polishes Used:
OPI Put A Coat On! (white)
Sally Hansen Thinking of Blue
Milani Teal (glitter)

I would love to rock this nail look for the 4th of July festivities however the nail strips are already starting to peel back. And this is after I’ve applied a top coat. Which, by the way, removed some of the red. Haha, I can’t win. I’ll leave the nail art to the pros. Oh…before I go, have you girls tried OPI’s Glitter Off?

OPI Glitter Off nail polish

I’m not going to act like they’ve done something so revolutionary because nail girls have been using Elmer’s glue as a base under glitter polishes for yearsssss. Years, y’all. Still. It is nice to have it housed in a nail polish bottle. But yeah, it totally looks like glue. And smells like it, too. It took me back to 2nd grade. Most importantly, it works! Very well, I might add. I love glitter polishes but hardly wear them because of the intense removal process. I will totally rock glitters more often and wear this base coat under it. I purchased it from ULTA for about $9.

So…are you a nail art doin’ kind of gal or would you rather join me in the “Love to see it but hate to do it” crew?

Check out some of these other sweet shades from OPI, Sally Hansen and Milani…

Milani Perfection Liquid Liner Is…Perfect!

Milani Eye Tech Perfection Liquid Liner

Eyeliners. They’ve been around for decades. I don’t really know the history of them but I reckon that for quite some time that pencil eyeliners have been just that…in the shape of pencils. Liquid liners come in the same boring tubes with a brush and it looks like brands are wising up and trying to be a bit more creative. I was sent this Milani Eye Tech Perfection Liquid Liner some months back and for the past 2 weeks I’ve been using it non-stop.

Milani Eye Tech Liquid Liner

For one thing, I think it’s groovy! No really…this is the funkiest liquid eyeliner that I have ever seen. I know within the past few years other brands have been giving us these liquid liners with the interesting designs but I am here to say that Milani does a darn good job at their version of this. You can draw thick and thin lines with ease.

Milani Eye Tech Perfection Liquid Liner swatches

Released in February of 2014, this liquid eyeliner and its ergonomic handle has a water resistant and non-feathering formula. It applies with ease and sure, it takes a few tries to get it to fit comfortably in your hand and when you do…you’re hooked. Honestly, I don’t think this using THIS liquid liner is better than the traditional liquid eyeliner.

However, in terms of control I do feel like I have a better grip on thangs because my hands have more to hold on to versus a slim tube.

Milani Eye Tech Liner

I love how rich the black is and I  really do think this is such a great eyeliner for those just getting started with liquid eyeliner. Which, by the way, has never been easy for me to use. Melody of Cosmetically Challenged says that while she loves this eyeliner, it tends to get tacky for her during these warmer months so that’s something to think about….

This baby is available at CVS, Walgreens and Walmart and you can cop it here.

The best of Milani…

LORAC Pro Palette 2…love, love LOVE!

LORAC Pro Palette 2

I know. That’s pretty much the craziest blog title ever but hey, sometimes keepin’ it simple is easiest. And simply put, I am so in love with LORAC’s Pro Palette 2. I did a post of their original PRO Palette back in 2012 and yes, while I still think it was great, LORAC is giving us richer shades and spectacular eyeshadow formula.

LORAC Pro Palette 2 outside

We’re seeing similar shades from the previous palettes but I am loving the the inclusion of the rich Navy and Plum. Seems simple but I don’t know, those additions alone, to me make the palette far more smokey eye friendly.

LORAC Pro palettes

The palette is available for purchase at Ulta.com and I’m pretty sure it will head to the physical stores soon and maybe Sephora? Either way, I think it’ll be a big hit for those that don’t have the original PRO palette. Is it a necessity for those of us that already have that one? Well, c’mon…I’m a beauty blogger.

LORAC Pro Palette 2 packaging

I can find ways to justify many purchases. But in all seriousness, I think this palette is definitely more versatile than the first PRO palette so yeah…you beautiful people can draw your own conclusions.

LORAC Pro Palette 2 on brown girl

Not a bad look using Cool Gray a base, right? I did a video of this baby. I am still so impressed with myself, y’all. Last year I think I did one…maybe TWO videos. This year already I’ve done NINE! Heyyyyy!

Think you’ll grab this palette or naw?

Too Faced Melted Liquified Lipstick…whooooa!

I’ve been wanting to buy Too Faced’s Melted lipsticks forever. I tried to ignore them. I told myeslf that I would hardly use them and that they weren’t really THAT unique.

Too Faced Melted

I lied to myself. And last weekend, I finally bit the bullet and purchased one. I was trying to be modest and hoard them all but really it was the Melted Fuchsia that called my name. Have you girls tried it? Ohmigoooodness.

Too Faced Melted Fuchsia
I’m pretty sure this shade will look gorgeous on just about anyone who wears it. It is indeed a very BRIGHT fuchsia but it somehow flatters me as it has nice blue undertones. And as all of the reviews have claimed, these Melted thingies wear very well. Do yourself a favor and exfoliate your lips if you find them cracking. These babies tend to seep into every crack and crease. The smell reminds me of Play-Doh but it doesn’t bother me. Honestly, I’ll take Play-Doh scents any day over floral or vanilla scents.

Too Faced said that these lippies should have “the shine of a gloss, lasting power of a stain, and pigment-packed color of a liquid lipstick.” Very interesting concept and one that I don’t think I’ve heard of before. The applicator has makes applying it easy.

Too Faced Melted applicator

I was shocked at how opaque this is, but that’s a good thing! It feels very light on the lips and really does last for quite some time. If you’re eating and manage to wipe your mouth, you will likely wipe off the color but yep, you’re left with just a little bit of staining.

It does surprisingly well and I’m trying to figure out which bill I shouldn’t pay so that I can buy some of these babies. Haha! Just kidding.

Maybe.

Seriously, though…at $21 they aren’t cheap but they are so worth the price and I don’t think I’ve come across a lip product that has gotten me THIS excited in soooo long. So yeah, girl. I’ll be wearing this lippy foreeeeeever.

Have you tried Too Faced’s Melted lippies yet? Check ‘em out here.

Why RoC rocks and #RoCWrinkleRanking!

RoC antiaging products

This is a sponsored post through Beauty Stat and last week a pretty cool Twitter party went down. If you missed the memos that I posted all over social media and thus missed the party, girl…I feel for you. Guys and girls from all over tweeted using the hashtag #RoCWrinkleRanking. A mess load of prizes were given out and we all got the skinny on how wrinkles and zip codes are interrconnected. Who would have thought?

We counted down the top 50 wrinkle-prone cities. The research was done by RoC and  Sperling’s BestPlaces and I sat on the edge of my seat with anticipation to see where Orlando, Florida would fall. I knew we would make the list and sure enough, we were #10. The #1 city was Riverside, California and NYC was #2. While we all tweeted our shock, horror and thoughts over the cities mentioned, we also chatted some of RoC’s awesome products.

RoC Antiaging

My beauty blogger girls have been recommending that I try some thangs from RoC for years now. Honestly, I don’t know what has taken me so long. Their lineup is impressive and you know that I am all about that preventive care. Yes, I know I don’t have wrinkles at 29 but if I get in to the habit of using anti-aging products, I will still look 29 at 59, right? Haha. At least that’s the hope.

RoC Skincare

I can’t wait to really start testing these goodies out. I have already been using the Eye Cream nightly. And I have been searching for a good night cream for months now. I received the following products from RoC.

  • RETINOL CORREXION Deep Wrinkle Night Cream
  • RETINOL CORREXION Deep Wrinkle Daily Moisturizer, SPF 30
  • RETINOL CORREXION Eye Cream
  • RETINOL CORREXION Max Wrinkle Resurfacing System
  • RETINOL CORREXION Deep Wrinkle Serum

RoC Skincare products

Only a true skincare fanatic would get so excited about getting the opportunity to try these. If you aren’t familiar with the brand, know that RoC Skincare has been around for 50 years and they pride themselves on producing anti-aging products that guarantee a visible difference. All of their products are reasonably priced, can be found at your local drugstore and more importantly…THEY WORK! I’ll keep you updated with my experience with RoC. In the meantime, check out that study and see where your favorite cities land.

Have you ever tried anything from the brand RoC?

Video Review of the Urban Decay Electric Pigment Palette

Urban Decay Electric Palette video

So I recorded this entire video and it wasn’t until it was uploading on my computer when I realized that I had pink shadow smudged everywhere. And I was too lazy to redo the video. This is why this blog is called Clumps of Mascara. I can make these kind of mistakes because ca-learly my blog isn’t about perfection.

Ah yessssss.

But this palette

Urban Decay Electric Palette

Girl, it’s pretty cool stuff. And I’m a lame for just now showin’ it off but whatever. I received a press sample of it and did lots of swatches showing off how vibrant those shades pop on darker skin. Check out the video and make sure that you’re subscribed. These days I’m cranking out a video once a week which hasn’t happened in like…years. So enjoy it while lasts.

And when you’re done, check out some of my other UD faves…

Summer Inspired Nails

My Beauty Bloggers of Central Florida group is back and we are all showcasing some of our favorite summer-inspired looks. I got all dolled up in makeup a few days ago working on separate project (that I shall reveal later) and I thought it was totally fitting for summer.

Clumps of Mascar rocks Summer Look

While the colors are muted, the products used are all sumer weather appropriate but when I think of summer, I think of lots of color. Y’know…the blue greens of the ocean. The shimmering red and orange of the sky as the sun sets. The burst of color from hot pink pedicures, neon oranges and bold blue purses. The sparkling stars in the midnight sky. I tried to represent it all on my nails.

In other news…I still suck at water marbling. But carry on and check out the summer inspired looks that my chicas did.

Zoya Tickled Collection

Sweet and creamy and made for Summer, Zoya’s Tickled collection was sent to me with the Bubbly collection. These shades are all bright and will absolutely satisfy the color fanatics of the world.

Zoya Tickled

See what I’m talkin’ about?

Zoya Rocha

Rocha is a red cream with warm undertones. It has a good amount of orange in it and while it isn’t wildly unique, it’s a fun mix between red and orange.

Zoya

Rooney is a magenta pink cream but really I find it to be notch up from baby pink. I’ve never been a fan of pink nail polishes and I really want to hate this one but it is kinda growing on me. I’ve got to find a pretty top coat to layer over it.

Zoya Tilda

Tilda is a fantastic warm mantis green that looks more like a Granny Smith apple cream. Really, it is far more warmer and has a touch of white in it. It’s a great green and not one that I think Zoya has in their green lineup.

Zoya Wendy

Oh Wendy. I’m thinking this juicy summer melon will be a hot pick among many summer pedicure pickers. It’s a pretty average shade and is like a mature bubblegum but I’m sure this girl will look great on the toes.

Zoya Ling

Ling is a beautiful vibrant royal blue. I’m a lover of blues and this is perfect and fitting for those who want to take baby steps into wearing blues.

Zoya Kirtridge

Kitridge is the only polish that I had to apply 3 coats of. If Wendy is a mature bubblegum pink, Kitridge is the teenage bubblegum pink.

And then altogether in harmony.

Zoya Tickled collection

I’m a fan of this collection but really it’s Kitridge and Tilda that rock my socks. Formula, as always, was perfect and it seems like with every collection they release, Zoya just gets better and better on the formula front. Are any of these shades are callin’ ya? You can get the entire collection at Zoya.com for $54 for all 6 polishes for $9 a bottle.
