Amor de Lacquer: Diamond Cosmetics’ Holiday ’09 Collection

Welcome to another post of Amor de Lacquer….the series all about nail polish and nail care! Send me your requests, suggestions and ideas to Brittany@ClumpsOfMascara.com.

Ready for another Diamond Cosmetics polish review? This time we’re going to be playing around with their beautiiiiful holiday collection?

Let’s go!

Blue Diamonds

Um, wooooow…..I don’t own a blue like this. Blue Diamonds is amazingly sparkly. The silver glitter isn’t the least bit chunky so application was easy. This color reminds me of a bright blue sky with stars shinning through. Whoa…how cool would that be to see?

Diamond’s Diamond

This baby works best for layering. It looks funky on my nails solo but I would imagine it would make any of your favorite non-glittery polishes pop! Diamond Cosmetics has a similar color like this called Sweet As Sugar.

Amethyst & Diamonds

Oh la laaa….check out my favorite of the bunch. Amethyst & Diamond’s is like a violet version of Blue Diamonds. How gorgeous is it? This baby has is a notch down from a holo. What a keeper!

Rubies & Diamonds

Crazy application, right? Yeah…I don’t know what’s wrong with Rubies & Diamonds. It wasn’t showing me much love when applying it solo. It does a lot better with layering. And when it is accompanied with other polishes, why…it just looks fabulous.

See….that’s better!

Another hit from Diamond Cosmetics. I love the color selection of these polishes. While I love green polishes to death, it would have been so “expected” for a holiday collection. The “diamond” theme is super unique. I have yet to have a REAL problem with any of my Diamond Cosmetics polishes. I did a good 3 coats for each application. Rubies & Diamonds could probably go for a fourth as it is not AS opaque at the others.

Right now you can get all of these babies together for an easy $15. This also includes their matte top coat which is AMAZING!! I’ll be reviewing that soon.

Until then….get them all.

Clumps will always and forever love Diamond Cosmetics. Rock on!

See any you like?
Your fellow nail polish junkie,

Beauty and…the Male: Jock Soap review

Greetings again, Clumpers! With it being close to Christmas time, it’s time for me to start some product reviews so that you can begin to get that husband, boyfriend, brother, father, or friend, some of the new products out there for HIM!

BEAUTY AND THE MALE PRODUCT REVIEW:
JOCK SOAP– “A HEAD OF THE CLASS”

http://www.thejocksoapcompany.com/v/vspfiles/assets/images/holidaygiftshop_1.gif

Company: Jock Soap

Products: Face, Shave, Body, Cologne, Hair, Etc.

Product Reviewed: The 4 piece Shave Collection

Price: $39

How to get it: TheJockSoapCompany.com

SHORE LEAVE SHAVE CREAM: A+

Finally! Jock Soap understands the most important part of the shaving experience—THE LATHER!! This lathered up VERY nicely and the best part is that a little bit goes a LONG way! Fellas will probably get about 10+ shaves out of this (and my mama gave me a pretty big head to shave)!

JOCK SOAP SHAVE BRUSH: A+

I had heard that shave brushes were unbelievable but I wasn’t expecting such a high quality brush! It washes and dries quickly and using it I could actually feel the brush moving my hair bristles around. And I have to admit…a few times, I just got in some extra lathering because it was giving me a nice head massage! Go get one of these for the man in your life NOW!

“TALL DRINK” AFTER SHAVE LOTION: B+

Cool a$ name. But, unfortunately the bottle and name was cooler than the product inside. Don’t get me wrong, it was not heavy was refreshing and did an adequate job of moisturizing my skin. However, I’ve used better products and this one won’t make me stray from my normal aftershave lotion.

STRAPPING COMPLEXION BAR: C

Same deal here. There was nothing too special about this face soap that would make me switch. It does the cleaning adequately though. However, here’s a NEWS FLASH for the folks at Jock Soap—men barely use face soap and women take up 90% of shower space with their products—put the cleanser in a bottle!

SPECIAL BONUS–LIP BALM: B+

Very nice. Medicated and something that would your man would probably use if he could keep up with it. If you’re into having your man use this, buy about 10 of these and put them everywhere (his car, his nightstand, his office drawer). This is a big step for a man (my girl laughed at first…’til she got a taste) but if you compliment him REPEATEDLY and shower him with kisses, you’ll always get what you want!

Overall grade: A

High quality + low price=a new customer. This one was complimentary from Jock Soap but my head is hooked on the shave! The products were well packaged (except for the soap) with dark colors and cool manly themes. Visual is half of the battle with us—trust me! The product far exceeded my expectations; in fact, I’m gonna end this right about NOW…it’s about time for a head massage!

Until next time,

KP

Maybelline ColorSensational: Reds!

I love red lipstick. A LOT! Now granted I wouldn’t walk around wearing every day but when I’m feelin’ sassy or sexy….out comes the red.

In this case its Are You Red-y lipstick and Wine All Mine lipgloss.

Both are heavily pigmented and fail to dry out the lippies. That’s a plus in my book. And have I mentioned how heavenly the ColorSensational glosses feel? They smell like honey almond syrup and jelly bean pie…or somethin’ like that. Ha!

I’ve never been good at these up close and personal shots of the lips but er uh…

Intense, right? Are you red-y?

Oh yeah…..
See…that’s what happens when you wear red lipstick. You get all sexy-eyed and start poutin’ the lips. Or…is that just me? Maybelline ColorSensational has 11 more reds….one of ’em has your name on it.

Stay tuned for the next color in the ColorSensational family. Should I do natural, pink or plum? I’m thinkin’ natural.

But Black Women Can’t: Wear Red Lipstick

Welcome to another But Black Women Can’t post. The purpose of this series to dispel the many myths and stereotypes that have haunted Black women for centuries. Colors we can’t wear, products we shouldn’t touch….it’s getting old. It’s time we start reclaiming our identities and defining our own beauty. Who’s with me?!! Email your suggestions to Brittany@ClumpsOfMascara.com.

I can’t believe I haven’t done this one yet! If there is one lipstick color that I think many Black women hide away from….it is red. So many of us fear wearing it because we think it will make us look crazy. Chances are you probably saw someone who didn’t wear it well and it scared you off. Am I right or am I right?

Well un-scare thy self because red lipsticks are beautiful on brown skin.

“My lips are too big.”

“Red is too….red.”

“It’s too bright.”

You’ve said it or heard it, haven’t you? What’s the matter with you? You CAN rock red lips. A little bit of confidence goes a long way.

My girl Shavonda and I both happened to try Maybelline’s ColorSensational Very Cherry. Check us out!

Go Shavonda!

Go B!

Go You!
*insert a photo of you wearing red lipstick here*

Reds rock and so do you.
Get one today.

…..and don’t let me catch you in the streets talkin’ about how Black women shouldn’t wear red lips. Girl please! Somebody dun told you wrong.

Peace, love and red lips for all!

Mascara Monday: Korres Provitamin B5 and Rice Bran mascara

Jasmine rice. Check! Brown rice. Check! Rice and beans. Oh yeah! I love me some rice, y’all. This starch just makes me smile. Never would have thought that I would be reviewing a mascara that has rice in it though. Leave it to Korres to come up with such. Ahhh Korres…a brand I have dabbled in and have yet to formally introduce to the Clumps fam. No better time like the present. Introducing….

Korres Provitamin B5 and
Rice Bran mascara

Price: 3 out of 5 ($18.00)
Packaging (Brush Wand): 2 out of 5
Overall: 5 out of 5

What it claims:“Lash-strengthening mascara naturally volumizes thin and brittle lashes, while adding length and deep pigment
• Nourishes lashes with a non-clumping buildable formula, providing maximum lash health
• Provitamin B5, a proven natural hair strengthener, improves both the length and number of lashes, treating them while adding drama to the eye
• Rice Bran natural extract expands (just like rice does in water) to provide maximum lash length, volume, and fullness. “(source)

The truth:I am totally impressed!

What I loved about it: Is that volume I see?

What I didn’t like: It has a plant-y smell but this is to be expected from natural mascaras. No big problem but I can see how it may bother others.

Overall: Well, I don’t know what else to say other than I’m impressed. No, really…this is a dynamic mascara. I was sent this mascara some time ago and it sat and sat for months before I even touched it. By the time I went to grab it, it had dried out. Off to Sephora I went to purchase it for myself. I didn’t have high expectations because well…just check out the review of my first natural mascara here. This baby blew me away. I love the volume that it gave me. I didn’t get a TON of length but enough to keep me quiet. My lashes also remained soft and weightless.

Buuuut, if I had to change one thing about it, it would be the wand.

It doesn’t make for the easiest application. Especially if you have smaller lashes and lids. I would love to see this with a lash comb-esque kind of wand. It would make for better separation and enhanced length.

But other than that, I’m sold! Unlike other natural mascaras, this one was able to withstand Floridian humidity without flaking or just oozing off of my lids. Oh…and yes, it does smell funka-licious. It doesn’t bother me though. It’s the price you pay if you’re looking for a natural mascara. Aaaand, it comes in different colors including grey green. Now that’s dope.

Lashes without mascara
(did NOT curl lashes)

Lashes with 2 coats of mascara

Would I recommend it?:I do! I receive a great deal of emails from ladies who are looking for natural mascaras and this is one I would definitely recommend. It works and although the price is a little steep, I think it’s worth it.Has anyone tried this mascara?

Whatcha think?

A crazed mascara reviewer,

Amor de Lacquer: Nubar’s Chocolate Truffle collection

Welcome to another post of Amor de Lacquer….the series all about nail polish and nail care! Send me your requests, suggestions and ideas to Brittany@ClumpsOfMascara.com.

Hmmm, truffles. I’m not the biggest chocolate fan in the world (I know, I know) but it’s just like Nubar to name a collection Chocolate Truffle. This collection satisfies your sweet tooth sans the calories and guilt. Nubar sent me these babies for review so without further ado…

Ladies and gentlemen, introducing the stars of Nubar’s Chocolate Truffle collection:

Chocolate Coffee Bean is is described as a deep brown shimmer. I’ll be honest….I was hesitant about brown polish on brown skin. It didn’t seem like it would be something for I would like but by George, it’s gorg!

Raspberry Truffle sounds totally yummy and looks fantastic! I think this is my favorite out of the bunch. Funny what bright red shimmer can do to a brown polish. This is fabulous!

Cherry Cordial is the only color that I immediately liked when I first saw it. It had enough red to tame the brown that scared me.

Later that day I jazzed it up with Lippman’s Happy Birthday. It’s a party on my nails! I think I’m going to rock this on my real birthday (January 2nd….holla!).

Chocolate Caramel is described as a bro†wn gold shimmer. Yum-E! It looks luscious enough, uh? I’m not the biggest fan of gold polishes but this is a little warmer so it’s not so bad.

Swiss Chocolate isn’t a bad polish….I’m just not sure if it’s for me. It really is brown! This is a first for me. It’ll take some getting used to.

Milk Chocolate Creme looks so delicious. I’m not terribly in love with it either but it’s funky enough for me to sport.

Nubar does it again! When it comes to unique polish collections, they win. Hands down! I’ll admit that I have never really be interested in brown polishes. When I can find them, they just didn’t seem to be ideal for my warmer skintone. Nubar proves me wrong. While it may take me some time to love the entire clan, I’m glad that so many different variations of brown polishes are available.

I used 2 coats for each and didn’t experience any application issues. Not one bit. I’m going to doing some designs with these babies. Imagine the possibilities….

You can get all 6 polishes plus a base and top coat (loves ’em!) for $49.95. Click here for more information.

Hmmm, whatcha say (channeling Jason DeRulo)? Like ’em? Love ’em? Could do without?

Your fellow nail polish junkie,

Acne Sucks: Skin Updates

Hey y’all! It’s your favorite Pimple Poppin’ lady. I really shouldn’t even call myself that because poppin’ pimples really ain’t good. So disregard that. HA!

Anywhoovers, I was thinking that it was time to update y’all on my skin and its battle with acne. It has been doing A LOT better. I attribute it to many things but mostly to the Differin gel that my dermatologist prescribed. Even though my skin is acting all normal and whatnot, I fear the day I run out of this stuff. Lawd, let’s hope I can get it for life.

Daily pimples are no more. They just don’t pop up. And when they do, they are small and easy to tackle.

And I know I keep saying I’ll review it and I will but ohmigoodness….skin tone correctors are a must have for the woman of color battling hyperpigmentation. I’m almost positive that they would work well for anyone. Wow! I am amazed. Over time, it has literally erased some of my dark spots. See for yourself!

These photos are untouched. I am not wearing any foundation, correctors or blush in any of them. Well….I take that back. A closer look at the first photo shows a swatch on concealer. But never the mind. Can you see the difference?

I talked about my skincare routine via video and even showcased some new products that I can’t WAIT to review for y’all. To see what I’m talking about, you’ll have to listen to me ramble and act a mess.

Sooo, the skin is doing better. Hallelujah! Stretch marks? Whatever. Chubby tummy? I can deal. The inability to wear above the knee boots because I have fat knees (lmao)? Fine. But I will NOT let acne get the best of me. The fight is still on because my skin, at any moment, can turn against me.

Now it’s your turn! To my fellow acne fighters, what have you been using that’s been working wonders? Spill the beans, sisters!

The Official Nail Polish 101 post

My YouTube family has been been requesting this post/video for quite some time now. It’s true…..I love nail polishes. Like, a lot. So I guess it was high time for me to talk about nail polish in general. But I didn’t just ramble in this video. I had a list and I stuck to it!

I talked about different finishes of polishes. Including glitter which I just….SO love.

And I also talked about prices and even wondered if I should come out with my own nail polish color and name.

LOL, I’m kidding. Or am I? Hehe….

Enjoy!
