Amor de Lacquer: Nubar’s Chocolate Truffle collection

Welcome to another post of Amor de Lacquer….the series all about nail polish and nail care! Send me your requests, suggestions and ideas to Brittany@ClumpsOfMascara.com.

Hmmm, truffles. I’m not the biggest chocolate fan in the world (I know, I know) but it’s just like Nubar to name a collection Chocolate Truffle. This collection satisfies your sweet tooth sans the calories and guilt. Nubar sent me these babies for review so without further ado…

Ladies and gentlemen, introducing the stars of Nubar’s Chocolate Truffle collection:

Chocolate Coffee Bean is is described as a deep brown shimmer. I’ll be honest….I was hesitant about brown polish on brown skin. It didn’t seem like it would be something for I would like but by George, it’s gorg!

Raspberry Truffle sounds totally yummy and looks fantastic! I think this is my favorite out of the bunch. Funny what bright red shimmer can do to a brown polish. This is fabulous!

Cherry Cordial is the only color that I immediately liked when I first saw it. It had enough red to tame the brown that scared me.

Later that day I jazzed it up with Lippman’s Happy Birthday. It’s a party on my nails! I think I’m going to rock this on my real birthday (January 2nd….holla!).

Chocolate Caramel is described as a bro†wn gold shimmer. Yum-E! It looks luscious enough, uh? I’m not the biggest fan of gold polishes but this is a little warmer so it’s not so bad.

Swiss Chocolate isn’t a bad polish….I’m just not sure if it’s for me. It really is brown! This is a first for me. It’ll take some getting used to.

Milk Chocolate Creme looks so delicious. I’m not terribly in love with it either but it’s funky enough for me to sport.

Nubar does it again! When it comes to unique polish collections, they win. Hands down! I’ll admit that I have never really be interested in brown polishes. When I can find them, they just didn’t seem to be ideal for my warmer skintone. Nubar proves me wrong. While it may take me some time to love the entire clan, I’m glad that so many different variations of brown polishes are available.

I used 2 coats for each and didn’t experience any application issues. Not one bit. I’m going to doing some designs with these babies. Imagine the possibilities….

You can get all 6 polishes plus a base and top coat (loves ’em!) for $49.95. Click here for more information.

Hmmm, whatcha say (channeling Jason DeRulo)? Like ’em? Love ’em? Could do without?

Your fellow nail polish junkie,

Acne Sucks: Skin Updates

Hey y’all! It’s your favorite Pimple Poppin’ lady. I really shouldn’t even call myself that because poppin’ pimples really ain’t good. So disregard that. HA!

Anywhoovers, I was thinking that it was time to update y’all on my skin and its battle with acne. It has been doing A LOT better. I attribute it to many things but mostly to the Differin gel that my dermatologist prescribed. Even though my skin is acting all normal and whatnot, I fear the day I run out of this stuff. Lawd, let’s hope I can get it for life.

Daily pimples are no more. They just don’t pop up. And when they do, they are small and easy to tackle.

And I know I keep saying I’ll review it and I will but ohmigoodness….skin tone correctors are a must have for the woman of color battling hyperpigmentation. I’m almost positive that they would work well for anyone. Wow! I am amazed. Over time, it has literally erased some of my dark spots. See for yourself!

These photos are untouched. I am not wearing any foundation, correctors or blush in any of them. Well….I take that back. A closer look at the first photo shows a swatch on concealer. But never the mind. Can you see the difference?

I talked about my skincare routine via video and even showcased some new products that I can’t WAIT to review for y’all. To see what I’m talking about, you’ll have to listen to me ramble and act a mess.

Sooo, the skin is doing better. Hallelujah! Stretch marks? Whatever. Chubby tummy? I can deal. The inability to wear above the knee boots because I have fat knees (lmao)? Fine. But I will NOT let acne get the best of me. The fight is still on because my skin, at any moment, can turn against me.

Now it’s your turn! To my fellow acne fighters, what have you been using that’s been working wonders? Spill the beans, sisters!

The Official Nail Polish 101 post

My YouTube family has been been requesting this post/video for quite some time now. It’s true…..I love nail polishes. Like, a lot. So I guess it was high time for me to talk about nail polish in general. But I didn’t just ramble in this video. I had a list and I stuck to it!

I talked about different finishes of polishes. Including glitter which I just….SO love.

And I also talked about prices and even wondered if I should come out with my own nail polish color and name.

LOL, I’m kidding. Or am I? Hehe….

Enjoy!

Beauty Review: The Body Shop Nutriganics Skincare line…

Yaaaay! The Body Shop has done it again! They’ve come out with another fabulous line of skincare products.

Let me introduce you to Nutriganics.

I’ve been test driving this line for a good 2 months and since my face didn’t act a plum fool, I figured now would be a good time to review it.

What what exactly does the Nutriganics line do? Glad you asked! The Body Shop says that it, can, “…..reduce the appearance of fine lines, improve skin’s elasticity and protect your skin against sun damage.” (source) In addition to that, this line contains Community Trade organic babassu oil. One of the things I love about The Body Shop are their values. They truly believe in making sure that their suppliers are treated fairly. Read more about that here. Aaaand, at least 98% of the total ingredients from the products below are from natural origin.

Well well now..that’s something that we can ALL appreciate. Let’s have a quick meet and greet with the kids now.

Foaming Face Wash ($14)

I always feel like a kid when I use foaming face washes. They are just so fun! I LOVED this one. It didn’t leave my face streaky but at the same time I felt like the cleanser gave me a thorough cleanse. The scent was a little strong though. It has a natural, grassy, root-nutty smell. If that makes any sense at all.

Refreshing Toner ($14)

Now I can’t say that I’m much a toner user. My acne prone skin can be oily at times but I never saw a toner alleviate that problem. I gave this one a whirl for a while and I liked it. I didn’t notice any changes in my skin but I loved the way it felt. It was a nice little follow-up to the face wash.

Smoothing Day Cream ($22) and
Smoothing Night Cream ($24)

These two were so identical in how they treated my skin, that I just ended up using the Day Cream during the day AND night. (someone play Kid Cudi). I could not distinguish between the two, which I suppose is not a bad thing. I think my skin appreciated the creams more at night. They seemed to “sink” in better. Application during the day felt a tad bit oily for my jacked up skin. I think these would work better for drier skin; especially those of y’all living in colder climates. As I type this, it is 83 degrees in Central Florida. Winter? What winter?

To sum up….I can dig the Nutriganics line. I think the prices are reasonable for natural skincare products. Although I am wondering why the Night Cream is more expensive than the Day Cream. Hmm… I can appreciate the smell but if you have a sensitive nose and can’t get down with “natural” smelling products, this may not be the line for you. And did i mention that this line smooths lines and wrinkles? I know I don’t have any now but preventive aging is a good look at any age. Yea mon!

You can find out more about the The Body Shop’s Nutriganics line here.

In the meantime, tell me what you think. Have you tried any of their skin products? Like ’em? Love ’em? Loathe ’em?

Tell me!

Primers, primers, primers….

So we all know how important primers are.

Or do you?

If I plan on wearing eyeshadow I ALWAYS have to put down a base. My eyelids are greasier than than a mofo….trust me on this one, y’all. They are just a hot greasy oily mess. Eye shadow primers are lifesavers and my shadow colors vibrant and lasting all day.

The above are my favorite.

What kind of primers do you use? Concealer, pencils, gel liners, potions, paint pots?

The Most Glittery-est Polish to date!

Just some random shots of China Glaze’s Spellbound.

This is by far the most glittery-est polish I own. It is insane!

You can it get it from Head2Toe Beauty for only $2.99. Wow-sers.

And don’t even get me started on Massini polishes…

I’ll be reviewing those babies soon! Just teasing y’all for now. :)

Amor de Lacquer: Diamond Cosmetics’ Fall Collection

Welcome to another post of Amor de Lacquer….the series all about nail polish and nail care! Send me your requests, suggestions and ideas to Brittany@ClumpsOfMascara.com.

Yep! I’ve got another Diamond Cosmetics collection for you. This time we’re bringin’ in the Fall with fabulous fall colors. You ready?

Crushed Velvet

What a fabulous name! Crushed Velvet reminds me a lot of Diamond Cosmetics’ Plum Pie in the Sky. Except this baby has more purple in it. Vampy purples that actually LOOK purple (and not black) are so stunning to me. And I love that I got complete coverage with just one coat. Holla!

….and then I matte-d it up with Essie’s Matte on You. I think I like it better shiny though.

Smokey Rose

If I had to rename this color, it would be Grandma’s favorite. No joke…my paternal Grandmommy used to wear a color JUST like this when I was growing up. It is definitely a Grandma-color, I think. I didn’t quite like it on me. I could really only rock this color with some kind of design on it. By itself it’s a little *yawn*
Mulberry Mahem

Please oh please excuse the application of this baby. It was a tad bit watery. It isn’t the most unique color but I love bright berries like this….we’ve seen them before but they still make me happy.

Cherry Tobacco

Well, hello there, hottie! What a fantastic fall color. You can’t have a fall collection without a color like this. I LOVE Cherry Tobacco. Definitely my favorite color in this collection.

Well, this isn’t my FAVORITE Diamond Cosmetics’ collection but it’s a good one. There is something for everyone. I mean, think about it—if you got this collection, you’ve got colors that your Grandma, little sister, Mom and teenage niece would like. I’m just sayin’….not all collections ‘got it like that’.

For $2 a bottle, I think they are worth it! But I will always say that because….they are $2 a bottle! Seriously….how can you NOT buy at least one?

I highly recommend Crushed Velvet and Cherry Tobacco. They are fantabulous!

Get ’em here!

Your fellow nail polish junkie,

Amor de Lacquer: Nubar’s Fall 2009 Modern Matte collection

Welcome to another post of Amor de Lacquer….the series all about nail polish and nail care! Send me your requests, suggestions and ideas to Brittany@ClumpsOfMascara.com.

Yesssss, more mattes. Am I loving this trend or what? I am having a ball reviewing collections from different brands. Everyone’s mattes are different and I have yet run into one that I didn’t like.

Nubar baby!!

You’ve seen me review Nubar before. Remember the Going Green collection? I am STILL in love with that Reclaim. Seriously the best green holo ever. Anywhoovers….let’s check out their mattes.

Prevail is one of those colors that you don’t see everyday. It’s very interesting. Like a dirty eggplant. Doesn’t look too matte-y though. Which is fine with me because it’s a funky and unique color anyway.

Oh wow….now I can get down with this. Contempo would be pretty boring if it wasn’t a matte. But since it is, it kinda rocks. It’s like a pearlized velvety tomato. I love it!

Vital is cool. Nothing spectacular. I didn’t think about it then but it would probably be insane with a glittery topcoat.

How ’bout Avant-Garde or Avant-Gorg! I love the way this baby pops on my skin.

Nubar’s mattes remind me a lot of Zoya’s mattes. They’ve got that velvet-y thing goin’ on. I’ve learned to appreciate mattes like this. They aren’t super super matte but are shiny enough to appease even the most anti-matte chica.

My only issues with these is that they are a bit of struggle to remove. And yes, like most mattes—you’ll see chipping after a day or so. But I love ’em so much that I don’t even care.

You can snag these darlings here. Only $25 for the entire set. Not bad at ‘tal!

Whatcha think?
