St. Ives, Puerto Rico and My Summer Beauty Life

St. Ives

This is a sponsored post brought to you by St. Ives and M Booth. By the time you read this, I’ll be prepping for a trip to Puerto Rico. Yes, girl. For an actual vacation. I don’t even plan to take my laptop with me which you know says A LOT. It’s time. It is loooong overdo and while us Floridians have been baking in warmer weather for months now, Esposo will literally have to drag me off of the beach when it’s time to check out.

Fresh Hydration Lotion

I’ve been packing for said trip since last week and included in my luggage are these St. Ives Fresh Hydration Spray Lotions. I’ve bragged about these before on Instagram and uh yeah…I’m still bragging. Nothing says “I need some moisturizaion but don’t have time to slather myself” like a spray lotion. And especially one from St. Ives. Formulated to replenish moisture into skin, St. Ives has given us a Spray lotion with lovely subtle notes and natural moisturizers. It’s lightweight enough to wear during the day but you’ll be surprised at how well it keeps the ash and dry skin at bay.

Jolen and A Hair Free Summer

I’m a hairy beast, y’all. And don’t think this is a complaint. I’m not one of those women that needs to have a hair-less body. I completely stop shaving my legs during the cooler months and have no problem with the inch long hurr on my arms. It is what it is, ya know? However, in the summer, you won’t see me sporting hairy under arms, a visible ‘stache and beard and a bikini line that looks like a forest is bustin’ through. No shame in my girls who do sport those things but hey…it’s not for me. And this is why I wax, tweeze, thread, pluck and shave.

Jolen Facial Hair Remover

Buuuut, when I got the opportunity to test drive Jolen’s Creme Bleaches and Facial Hair Remover Kit, I could not have been more excited. Changing the color of the hair means I don’t have to head to my threading lady as often as I do now. Win! Jolen does a great job at helping users know that in order to get the best results, they should test the products on their skin first. I decided not to use the Creme Bleach just because I wasn’t sure of its efficacy for darker skinned people with dark hair.

Paula’s Choice Skincare Review

Woohoo y’all! I am so excited to finally be blogging about this skincare brand because ever since I announced that I’d be test driving some of their products, many of you gals mentioned how much you LOVE Paula’s Choice. This is a sponsored post through PRIMP and I am so fortunate that I got to try a line of items that were specifically recommended to me by Paula’s Choice fabulous team of experts.

Paula's Choice products

I’ve been playing around with these products for quite some time and as with all skincare products, my opinions may vary compared to the opinions of others. I will say that like with all brands, you will likely find the best results by using an entire line-up of a brand’s products versus just a cleanser, treatment or moisturizer. Make sense? Firstly, let’s see what items were recommended for my acne-prone, hormonal skin that gets blazed by the Florida sun daily.

Go To Beauty Products That I Really Can’t Live Without

Top Go To Beauty Products

My Makeup Wars girls are coming together again to share some of their favorite Go To beauty products. I’ve got a list, y’all. And I mean an incredibly lengthy list. Since I’m forever trying new products, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that I probably have more Go To goodies than the average beauty lover.

But for the sake of time, I have chomped this list down to 5 items that I go to just about every day and use alllllll the time.

Naturally Fly Body Butters Are Perfection

A few months back I received 2 tubs of Naturally Fly’s body butters and I was all kinds of excited about it. I am a buttah girl. Yes, I know the buttahs are a new thing for a lot of y’all but for many brown girls, we grew up on the buttahs and oils. I’m not laughing at you for being late to the party. I’m just glad that that you’re here.

Naturally Fly Midnight Mango

Shea butter based products are glorious for those of us who suffer from chronic dry skin and eczema. If you don’t fall into either of these categories, you can still get some use out of shea butter thanks to its Vitamin A and Vitamin E properties. Naturally Fly is giving us an assortment of over 6 different body butters and I managed to get my hands on Midnight Mango and Honey Punch.

Naturally Fly
Honey Punch is currently MIA because a certain toddler of mine has hid it and I’m sure it won’t show its face for about a year or so. The funny thing about both of these products is that they smelled exactly the same. To make sure my nose wasn’t off, I asked my Mom to sniff ’em too and she agreed. I’m not mad at this because it is VERY difficult to cut the very nutty smell of shea butter. I was really looking forward to having a honey scented butter but its lack of a fragrance didn’t upset me because y’all know how I feel about fragrances…I could absolutely live without them.

Naturally Fly Shea Butter

I’m thinking that I may have just gotten a wonky batch because reviews of these butters are saying that the fragrance is indeed there. But performance-wise…they rock! I mean, they really are wonderful. These butters are whipped to perfection and glide easily on the body. I didn’t find these to be very different from a traditional whipped shea butter and that’s a good thing. Sometimes it’s best to stick with what works! And this works in that it provides deep moisturization for the skin and leaves it with a non-sticky glow. So yes, y’all. I am a fan.

It looks as if each butter contains another oil like olive oil, grapeseed oil, jojoba oil and avocado oil and a fragrance but if I were to purchase these again, I’d snag the ones without fragrance. Retailing for $14.99, I think the price point for these works as the jar is large enough to last you a good little while, especially since a little bit of shea butter goes a long way.

Are you a lover of shea butter?

ETA: It turns out that I received the fragrance-free version of these.

Ideal Image Makes Hair Removal…ideal!

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Ideal Image for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

So girls…let’s talk about something I’ve mentioned a thousand times here on Clumps of Mascara. Hair removal! I’ve done the waxing, threading and tweezing but if you’ve found those methods to be time consuming and pointless (considering the hair grows back in like…days), laser hair removal may be for you. Ideal Image Laser Hair Removal is located around the country and they have a few spots here in the Greater Orlando area. I am forever hearing the commercials on the radio and I’m like “Ugh. I wish I could go!” Their treatments and services sound some kind of amazing and they always have a special going on. Even during the summer! And speaking of summer, I’m a bit bummed out that it’s on its way out of the door. The kids are back to school and while the weather isn’t getting any cooler, I am often caught daydreaming about hangin’ out on one of South Florida’s beaches. Just me and about 3-4 girlfriends wake up to a rented condo on the beach and after sleeping a full 7-8 hours, we wake up to cook breakfast and toss on our swimsuits and head to the beach.

Beach

We’ve got our books in tow, our reusable bottles of water, sunscreen and we are all set to lounge on the beach for hours at a time. Sounds glorious, right? Especially if you’ve already gone to Ideal Image to handle that hair “situation”. You wouldn’t have to worry about any last minute shaving on your trip and trust me when I say, every second counts.

Sunset

Laser hair removal just makes sense. Especially if you’re looking for a more convenient option that will give you confidence. Ideal Image Laser Hair Removal  is a more permanent to getting rid of unwanted hair forever. For a limited time, Ideal Image is offering up to 70% off Laser Hair Removal services. Um, WOW! What an amazing deal. I’m a girl who doesn’t make much fuss over if she has a bit of stubble but I would looooove to rock a bod that is virtually free of hair under my arms and on that upper lip. Just sayin’.

My Mom and so many of my friends have done nothing but brag about the awesomeness that is laser hair removal so if it’s something you’ve thought about, scoot on over to Ideal Image, request more information, learn more about the treatments, and schedule your first visit! And you better tell me alllll about it.

So. About Sunscreen…do you wear it?

I can’t believe that I am just now getting around to reviewing these sunscreens from Kiss My Face. Summer is well underway and we just took our first family trip to the beach a few weeks ago. I wasn’t brave enough to take an infant to the beach last year but now that Elle is 1.5, I just knew it would be some kind of fun.

Baby at the beach

And fun, it was. She had a blast digging through the sand with Daddy, running up on the waves and lounging with Mommy on the beach chair. We were sent these Kiss My Face sunscreens for review which we toted with us in our beach bags. I’m glad I remembered to bring them because while I am a big advocate about sun protection, I forget to wear sunscreen…a lot!

Kiss My Face Kids sunscreen

There’s been a lot talk about spray sunscreens and if they are harmful or not so to be safe, I didn’t use that on Elle. I did however slather her in the Kiss My Face Kids Defense Mineral SPF 30 sunscreen. It provides UVA and UVB protection and they omit fragrances and sulfates. Mineral sunscreens, I’m guessing, are the new kids on the block ( don’t quote me on that as I don’t really keep up with sunscreen thangs) in the sunscreen world. I first heard about them from Food Babe. I’m not going to act like I’m a skin scientist and know every little thing about ingredients but I do what I can and I appreciate brands like Kiss My Face because they are always very clear on what their products include and don’t include.

And I’m so grateful that this comes without fragrance. Sunscreens are already pretty funky in my book and I don’t need an extra layer of a citrus scent to help me smell…”beachy”. This stuff applies like all sunscreens.

But alas those with darker skin will endure the ghost effect. Ain’t nothin’ we can do about that. And I deal with it because at the end of the day, protection is key. Our entire family uses this sunscreen so I love that I’m using a sunscreen that’s great for my baby and great for me!

I really love this sunscreen and will stock up on it since we plan on taking a few more trips to the beach this summer. I’ll hold off on their Air Powered Spray for now until I get the verdict on it.
